As you can tell from my avatar, I’m a HUGE Jetsons fan.

When I first started this blog, my template design had a Jetsons theme.

And before I started posting photos of myself, whenever anyone would ask me what I really looked like, I told them, “George Jetson…..I'm actually George Jetson.”

The Jetsons is a cartoon I can watch over and over again, and still (at 54 years old) laugh like a silly hyena.

I remember as a kid being totally enthralled, while watching Jane Jetson talk to her husband George on their space age monitor telephone; reminding him to pick up a gallon of milk on his way home from the office.

I thought it was way too cool that she could SEE, as well as talk to him on the phone simultaneously.

Being a cartoon that was based on the future, I was hoping, but never DREAMED we would eventually have the ability to do the same thing one day.

Enter…..Skype!

Yes, folks….since purchasing my new laptop, I have signed up for an account with Skype. And sometime this weekend, I will experienced my first face to face, or rather monitor to monitor telephone call with my dear friend Diana from Florida.

And can I tell ya, I am so excited about this event, I’m almost tempted to get a haircut, a bikini wax, and a few shots of Botox because I want to look flawless when I talk to her. I mean, we haven’t seen each other in FIVE YEARS for god sake!!!

Now the only drawback to monitor telephone calls, is that people can SEE you. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t want anyone looking at me with pieces of spinach wedged between my teeth, a zit that resembles a moon crater on my left cheek, or my hair looking as though I combed it with a egg whisk.

VANITY prevails me, what can I tell ya?

Shallow little twit that I am.

It’s not really how I feel….it’s how I LOOK. I mean if I look good, then I obviously must FEEL good, right?

Anyhoo…I’ll keep y’all posted on my Skype call.

In the meantime, I think I’ll dig out my George Jetson puppet.

Just in case the Botox fails......

Wishing you a flawless-looking weekend everyone!

X

  1. I just got a new computer and I just signed up for Skype too! I have no idea if it works, though, because I haven't actually tried it yet, although I have 2 people on a "list" of some kind.

I can't wait to hear how your maiden voyage turns out. On Skype, I mean.

Sorry. Lame joke. I can't believe I went there.

  2. Hi Ron

I've seen Skype on Oprah. It seems nice to chat to someone (sitting very far from you) to actually see them. And yes I know what you mean by the spinach in your teeth while talking to them, jig!!! Just imagine that...

I guess when I decide to get skype I'd have to take a shower and put on some make-up and jewellery before chatting to anyone... otherwise I think the person on the other side will get a big fright.

You should have a flawless weekend too Ron. See ya on Monday. :)

  3. hahaha. i really do hate the camera, well being in front of any camera and that might come as a surprise since i'm doing a month long self portrait project. i hate skype and only use it to appease my brother. everyone else will have to meet me in person, or not at all. if anyone calls me, like the phone, i won't answer. hate the phone too.

okay mr. jetson, looking forward to your skype update. have a good weekend.

"I can't wait to hear how your maiden voyage turns out. On Skype, I mean."

    Bwhahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

OMG....I love your sense of humor!

So you have Skype too? I wanted to make my Skype call earlier this week, but my friend in Florida had a lot going on, so we decided on this weekend. I'm DYING to try it!! Me too, I have no idea how it works. But apparently, (as my friend tells me), it's fast and easy. She's been Skyping with her sister in South America for the past year and says it's so much fun!

I'll keep y'all updated on my experience sometime next week.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, dear lady!

    Always great to see you!

    Enjoy your weekend....X

" I'd have to take a shower and put on some make-up and jewellery before chatting to anyone... otherwise I think the person on the other side will get a big fright."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA.....me too! Especially in the morning! I look like a GREMLIN - HA!

I can't WAIT to try this out!!!

Thanks a lot for dropping by this morning, my friend! Always a treat to see your sweet energy in my comments!

    Have a flawless weekend.....X

  6. Oh vanity thy name is ...... the same as mine! LOL I'd have to be hair done and make-up perfect before I'd let anyone see me. ;)

I used to love watching the Jetsons too m'dear. x

  7. Good Morn'in Val!

Oooooooo.....oooooooo....I can't WAIT to see your month long self portrait project! I love your blog and always look forward to seeing what you share!

Me too. I'm SO not a phone person (which is WHY I love caller ID) - if I don't recognize the number, I don't answer it.

I'm anxious to see what Skype is like. However, I think it'll be something I do every once in a while.

Always so great seeing ya, girl! Thanks for stopping by!

    Enjoy your weekend...X

  8. Good Morning Akelamalu!

"Oh vanity thy name is ...... the same as mine!"

HAHAHAHHAHAHA....oh, you are toooo funny! Me too!

Well, at least we're honest about it, hu?

I'm thinking that maybe I should have a few Halloween masks on-hand, so that whenever I make a Skype call, I can just slip on the mask and VIOLA!

    HA!

Thank you for stopping by this morning, m'dear! Wishing you a flawless weekend....X

P.S. isn't the Jetsons the BEST????

  9. ...Oh good nite! I love, love, LOVE The Jetsons! That Jane is a gal after my own heart especially when George goes to give her a bill and she takes his whole wallet! HA! hee, hee, hee ;o)

...To this day I dream of sitting with a remote and pushing a button that says "vacuum", "mop", "dust" and "mute". "Mute" being for the husband...lol ;o)

...I always loved their maid robot 'Rosie' too. Remember when she was in love with the building supers' robot (am I right?), and they unplugged(?) him and she went into a deep state of depression and she would roll around the apartment goin', "uuuUUU", "uuuUUU"...(don't know how to spell the sound but you get the jest of it right?) lol... :o)

...Love the Skype idea 'cept for the fact that people can see ya! lol... Heck I had the hardest time just postin' a photo of my mug on Facebook! Gah! *shudders* :o)

...Enjoy your weekend and thanks for the Jetson memories!

...Over and out! Blessings too... :o)

  10. Oh TJ....I LOVE YOU, DEAR LADY!!!

    We ARE kindred spirits!!!!

Your comment had me ROLLING ON THE FLOOR and CLAPPING!!!

I too always wanted one of those remotes the Jane had. All she had to do was push a button and VIOLA....it was done!

YES! YES!....now that you reminded me, I do recall that episode where Rosie was in love with the building supers' robot - what a HOOT!!!!!

    "uuuUUU", "uuuUUU"..."

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAA!

One of my favorite parts was when George would brush his teeth in morning. He'd press a button and the toothbrush came out of the wall, automatically squeezed toothpaste on the brush, and then would brush his teeth for him!!

What amazes me about this cartoon, is that so much of the space age technology they showed, has actually come to be.

Can't wait for my first Skype call! I'll keep ya posted.

Thanks sooooooooooooooo much for your comment, TJ! You totally put a smile on my heart this morning!

Wishing you a funfilled Jetsons weekend....X

  11. Man, I have GOT to get in on this Skype thing. But then I would have to lose weight, get a laser peel, cut my hair, and . . . GASP! . . . pluck my eyebrows. Maybe I'm better on paper.

I have to admit that as a child I was scared to death of Rosie the Robot. There might've been a particular episode where she went berserk or something that set me off.

Anyway, enjoy your Skype experience. Can't wait to hear about it!

  12. Good Morning JD!

"But then I would have to lose weight, get a laser peel, cut my hair, and . . . GASP! . . . pluck my eyebrows."

HHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHA....I know, it's it funny how all of sudden when you realize you're going to be SEEN, you start thinking about getting a complete makeover at Elizabeth Ardens' Red Door???

    Bwhahahahahahaahaha!

The only character on The Jetsons that scared me was Mr. Spacely. OMG...he was like a little HITLER!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, girl! Always a HOOT sharing with ya!

    Have a grrrrrrrrreat weekend..........X

  13. hi Ron..I have skype too but always hesitate to use it out of my vanity as well. When you see your own face in the little screen on the corner it gives you pause...YUCKO...do I really look that bad???? I only use it with my daughter. Somehow she always looks beautiful on skype...I wonder why???I would love to introduce you to my friend Brian. I am going to try to have him come over to your blog. He is a Jetsons's fan too!!! He has the dolls that he just sold on Ebay..in mint condition. I also loved the Jetsons. I wanted to live in their cool house and fly around in their cool saucer cars. I love all the electronics and of course I loved Jane.
There is nothing like those old cartoons..they are priceless and timeless.

  14. Good Afternoon Susie!

Oh, vanity...vanity....one of the seven evils of the world.

    HAHHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!

I can't help it though, I'm a Libra. Libra's are notorious for being vain - tee, hee!

Me too...I loved The Jetsons house, and the way they could push a button and rise above the rain clouds, remember that? Yes, and their saucer cars, and the cute little sound they made!

    ppprrrrrttttttt!

OMG...I would LOVE to meet your friend Brian!!! Yes, please do send him over because he sounds like a fun guy. Oooooo...and I bet it got a fortune for those dolls on Ebay!

Thanks so much for stopping by today, Susie!

I'm always so happy when I see you've commented.

  16. As a kid watching the Jetson, I seriously thought that by the time I reached my twenties we'd live just like that zipping through the air everywhere we wanted to go. What I am mostly disappointed in is that I didn't get a Rosie. Oh how I wish for a robot maid! Heck, any kid of a maid will do!

    ReplyDelete
  17. OK... you have GOT to do a VLOG with the George Jetson Puppet... Like YOU interviewing the "real" you (the puppet)....Promise? OMG that will be hysterical, Maybe I should help you write a screenplay for it! bwahahaha

  18. you are so funny! I didn't pay so much attention to the Jetsons growing up, but Cristy LOVED them, just like you. She wished she could live in that life. I asked her why, fully knowing the answer. It was because of those conveyor belts they had - when you woke up in the morning you didn't have to exert any energy other than schlepping over to the conveyor belt. And thene, voila, presto, you were ready for school/work/whatever.

I suppose that's as good a reason as any to love the Jetsons.
    :)

hope you have an excellent weekend!!

    Thanks for stopping by, buddy!

Me too...me too!!!!! Oh, how I longed for one of those space cars!!!!

Do remember the car called the Pacer? They weren't on the market for very long, but they looked exactly like one of those cars the Jetsons buzzed around in!

Didn't ya just LOVE Rosie the maid? She was a little cutie!

Thanks for stopping by today, dear lady!

  22. Hiya Diane!

"It was because of those conveyor belts they had."

Yes!!!.....the moving sidewalks. Oooooo...I LOVED them!

And what's really funny is that they now have them in airports!!!

So much of what was shown on the Jetsons has become a reality. Battery operated toothbrushes, microwave ovens, moving sidewalks, and now...SKYPE!

I think I actually enjoy the Jetsons more now, than I did when I was a kid!

Thanks a bunch for dropping by, Diane!

And as you can see...your comment went through this time. YAAAAAAAAAAY! I had so much trouble this week with Bloggers commenting system. If you go to my previous post, you'll see that yours and my comment finally showed up. However, they showed up 2 and 3 times!?!?

  23. Hey Ron,

OK refresh my memory---Astro chasing a cat and George gets caught on the belt and yells "Jane Stop this Crazy Thing' while the cat and Astro sits and watches

    I always did like Astro

Maybe you could get yourself into George Jetson character before making the skype call, that would be cool.

  25. Hi Ronnie,

I'am very happy to be back and I'am really excited, too that you have skype. YES!!!
I have skype too, and we are going to have to set up a chat date. I will e mail you.

I'am also of that cartoon generation. It is incredible how clearly the carttonists "saw" some aspects of the future with the Jetsons.
Of course, we don't have those above ground moving sidewalks, flying cars, etc but it is all very uncanny!!

Sending you sunshiny warmth from the Paris burbs. The weather is just gorgeous right now.
    XOXOXO

  26. How exciting, Ron! I have a suggestion for the vanity thing. Each toasts with a couple of glasses of wine, maybe some cheese and crackers, and you'll be laughing and enjoying each other on your Skype picnic, not caring about the warts, wrinkles, etc. She sounds to me she won't give a hoot anyway!

Have a far out time, Mr. Jetson! :))

    Ooooo...oooo...I'm so excited!

YES....we will definately have to set up a time to SEE and talk to one another. It never even dawned on me that you might have it too (being in Europe and having family in the U.S.).

Isn't is amazing how so much of what was shown on The Jetsons has actually manifested in the future?

    LOVE the Jetsons!

Thanks soooo much for stopping by today, my friend! I'm so excited that your back blogging too. You were missed!

Think we've already established that, eh?

I do hope the adventure in Skype went well for you and that the bikini waxing paid off. (I can think of less painful ways to get that falsetto voice pitch--I'm sure that's what it was about....)
I, on the other hand--will avoid Skype as successfully as I did the other webcam programs...as I do the phone and all other pieces of 'same time' communications.

    I LIKE the pause I gain from text/emails. It's automatic....and a lifesaver.
Yaknow....for me who has a tendency to blurt stuff out--definitely a good thing!

I definately prefer blogging/emails for the same reason. Gives me the chance to "pause" before BLURTING.

  41. I always loved the Jetsons. Especially, Rastro.

I have a webcam but I have yet to use it. When I turn it on, I can see myself on the screen and it's not very flattering. I'll have to work on some proper lighting before I actually use it.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....I KNOW what you mean, girl!

The first time I turned my own, it looked like a MUG SHOT! If you position the webcam directly in front of a window (with sunlight) you'll find the lighting much more flattering. I just discovered that.

I know, that's the REALLY great thing about communicating through the computer, isn't it? We don't don't have to worry a damn bit about how we look.

I honestly think Skype should come with a hairstylist and makeup artist. Either that, or various MASKS we could use!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!

That's WONDERFUL!! I love Skype and how exciting for you to get back in touch with people.. Just remember (I don't know if anyone posted this b/c I didn't read through all of your comments) - You don't "have to" turn on the camera when you Skype... Seriously, you can just talk without the camera rolling.. I do this when I have bed head or I just don't feel like being seen.. it's fine and people don't mind..
    Take care my dear friend...
