A few days ago, I was reading Jane Fonda’s most recent book, Prime Time.

I freakin’ ADORE Jane Fonda, and could literally sit for hours on end watching her being interviewed. I just love to hear her talk. And nine times out of ten, she will always say something that moves me to tears because she speaks so passionately and eloquently.

Anyway, there was something she mentioned in one of the chapters which propelled me to share a topic I have forever thought was interesting.

Jane expressed how she has always identified herself with a bear because she is someone who likes solitude for long stretches of time. But then when she’s had enough alone-ness, she becomes very social, outgoing, and even garrulous. Which, like a bear, hibernates during the long winters and then loves to play and socialize in the spring.

I myself, have always identified with a tiger.

For some reason, even looking at a photograph of a tiger makes me feel a kinship. I have always had a fascination with these powerful and beautiful animals.

I remember a time when I was working as a magician's assistant, back when I lived in Florida. One of the illusions involved placing me into a large cage and then magically being transformed into a tiger. And I’ll never forget the day when the professional animal trainers came to the venue in which we were to perform the illusion, and I actually saw a tiger up close and personal for the first time in my life. As this magnificent creature walked by me, I got emotionally emotional. The tiger was no more than a foot away from me, as the trainers ushered the big kitty from the truck to the cage.

Later that afternoon, I stood by the cage quietly watching, as the tiger and I looked eye to eye. There was almost a familiarity between the two of us. I know this may sound very bazaar, but on some deep ‘energetic level’ the tiger and I became one - as if we connected to one another.

Here are some interesting tiger facts, that I truly identify with:

-Tigers are nocturnal animals - Night is my favorite time of the day. I come alive, yet at the same time feel peaceful. I compose most of my blog posts at night because that’s when I feel the most creative.

-Other than hunting for food, a tiger will not attack or kill unless severely provoked - I’m a genuinely nice, fair, and respectful person, until my boundaries are inflicted upon. And then I….. RRRROAR!!!!

-Unlike most big cats, adult tigers live alone and travel solitary - Yup…that‘s me. And I truly enjoy it.

-Out of all big cats, tigers love to swim in water - I LOVE water.

-Tigers have very sensitive paws - My hands and feet are exceedingly sensitive. I can actually feel a thin strand of thread on the floor if my feet are bare.

-Tigers can be extremely loyal and protective over those they love - I’m more apt to be protective over someone I love than even myself. And if you don‘t believe me, just ask my mother about the time someone said something to her that I found very inappropriate. Let‘s just say, that everyone in the state of Florida (and parts of Georgia) heard my tiger WRATH.

So, there you have it folks….if I were an animal, I’d be a TIGER!

Have a MEOW of a weekend everyone!

X

  1. Good morning Ronnie,
Once again, I see that you are very "feline", with all your different lives. You were a magician's ass't. How fun! That is a strong experience of having the tiger up so close to be able to feel him as you did.

I am sure that the tiger felt cool with you... animals just feeldo have a lot of similarities with the tiger :)

I am not going to be a “copy cat” , but it is with the domestic house cat that I feel the most akin to.

I share many of the house cat’s qualities except for being a night kitty. Otherwise, independent, rather on the solitary side, but affectionate to a trusted few and on the cautious side in general.
My family in France always had cats and since we lost the last one, we have been missing having a cat. Maybe when we get to retirement age, we may just adopt one.

Very interesting post! Have a great weekend & see you on Monday.
    xoxo

  2. A magician's assistant? Oh Lord, Ron, you've had more odd jobs than anyone I know!

All I can say is...let's thank our lucky stars that you looked the tiger in the eye before the rabbit. Had a kindship been formed with a bunny instead, errr, I won't go there, okay? He was probably hiding in the magic hat...scared out of his little fur.

    Me....well, a CHAMELEON of course!

  3. Jane Fonda is fabulous!! I haven't read anything by her, but some of her movies I really enjoyed. 'Stanley and Iris' is one. And 'Monster-in-Law' was soooo funny! She played Viola perfectly!

For awhile, I was trying to find out what my totem animal was but didn't really receive anything specific. Recently, I read that we have quite a few of them and they go thru life with us as teachers or guides. Sometimes an actual animal but more than likely just the essence.
For awhile, cats (more the small pet rather than a larger lion or tiger) were prominant in my life. We had three at one point. But I don't really feel the affinity to them so much now. Greta has seen to that. ;) I just finished a short story by Stephen King, 'The Cat from Hell', and thought of her for a brief moment. Remind me to never piss her off, okay. lol

Dragons, even though they are legendary creatures, have intrigued me for quite awhile.
And dolphins.... yes, most definitely dolphins, are of interest to me. The trip to Cancun we took a few years ago was made even more special by getting to spend a little time with Squalo and Mercurio, I think I got the names right. I would love to do a dolphin swim again sometime!

Hope your weekend is wonderful! xo

  4. I absolutely love the large cats. The most beautiful and proud animals of them all, in my mind. It's probably why I have cats as pets. If it were possible, I'd have a large cat too ;)

You are so fortunate to have met a real live tiger up close and personal like that. Weren't you just a little nervous?

  6. Good day, Ronald, or should I say Hi Tiger. Now, now, don't you RRRROAR at me.

Gosh you've had some fabulous jobs. A magician's assistant must have been a fascinating occupation. I love all animals but mainly from a distance. The opportunity to get close to tigers has never presented itself... unless they were in a cage. I hate to see caged animals.

Incidentally, I must do a bit of name dropping and tell you that I've met Jane Fonda. She was a guest speaker at the WI's National AGM and I got to speak to her. Isn't she marvellous?

  8. Good morning Barbara~

"Once again, I see that you are very "feline", with all your different lives."

    MEEEOW! Purrrrrrrrr.....

Yes, I was a magician's assistant for the husband of a friend of mine who was an amazing close up magician, and then later, went on to perform stage illusions with his partner. I only did it for a brief period, but it was soooooooooo much FUN!

    POOF! It's magic!

"I share many of the house cat’s qualities except for being a night kitty. Otherwise, independent, rather on the solitary side, but affectionate to a trusted few and on the cautious side in general."

Yes, I kinda had a feeling that you too felt a kinship with kitties!

It's funny, as a kid, my family always had dogs for pets (German Shepherd's - love them!). But it wasn't until I got a bit older (and had a cat) did I begin my love affair with felines.

I too miss having a cat, and know that I will eventually get another one when the time is right. For me, they're the perfect pet!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Always so great to see ya!

Have a wonderful weekend! And Happy Labor Day to you!!!!

    XOXO to you and D!

"A magician's assistant? Oh Lord, Ron, you've had more odd jobs than anyone I know!"

HA! I know. I bet if I made a list of ALL the jobs I ever had, it would take TWO sheets of paper!

Being a magician's assistant was one of the highlights. It was a BLAST!

"All I can say is...let's thank our lucky stars that you looked the tiger in the eye before the rabbit. Had a kindship been formed with a bunny instead, errr, I won't go there, okay? He was probably hiding in the magic hat...scared out of his little fur."

Bwhahahahahahahhahahhaa! Tracy, you ALWAYS crack me the hell up!!!!! That was BRILLIANT!

    "Me....well, a CHAMELEON of course!"

But, of COURSE!!!!! And a fabulous animal it is! Chameleon's have such a wonderful way of adapting and going with the flow.

"Jane Fonda is fabulous!! I haven't read anything by her, but some of her movies I really enjoyed. 'Stanley and Iris' is one. And 'Monster-in-Law' was soooo funny! She played Viola perfectly!"

Isn't she faaaaaaaabulous? People seem to either love her or not. I love her passion and ability to honestly expose herself in an interview. She shares it ALL! And yes, I also think she's an amazing actress. Very natural. LOVED 'Stanley and Iris' too! And it's funny you mentioned that movie because she also mentioned it in her book. She said that she made that movie during a very challenging and low time in her life and was not pleased with her own performance. Can you believe that?

"For awhile, I was trying to find out what my totem animal was but didn't really receive anything specific. Recently, I read that we have quite a few of them and they go thru life with us as teachers or guides. Sometimes an actual animal but more than likely just the essence."

Yes, you're absolutely right....we do have quite a few totem animals throughout our lives, and they change. I once had a shaman tell me that my totem animals were a horse, an eagle, and a lizard. It was fascinating to hear him explain to me what what each animal represented because it made perfect sense as to WHY they were my totem animals.

" I just finished a short story by Stephen King, 'The Cat from Hell', and thought of her for a brief moment. Remind me to never piss her off, okay. lol"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! How funny! It's kinda how I felt about his book/movie CUJO!

"Dragons, even though they are legendary creatures, have intrigued me for quite awhile.
And dolphins.... yes, most definitely dolphins, are of interest to me."

I don't know much about the sybolism of dragons, but I do know that dolphins are very powerful animals. To me, they are such loving and intuitive creatures. It must have been such an AMAZING experience swimming with them!

Thanks so much for stopping by today, M. Always enjoy our chats. Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Yup...I had a feeling you loved and identified with large cats too - Meow!

And like you, I wish it were possible to actually HAVE one as a pet. Can you imagine cuddling with one?

"You are so fortunate to have met a real live tiger up close and personal like that. Weren't you just a little nervous?"

Thank you, yes, I did feel so fortunate to have met a real live tiger up close and personal. No, I wasn't nervous, but more in AWE of the tiger. But I will tell you, their size is VERY intimidating . And not only their size, but their energy. It's like this quiet, yet VERY powerful essence they give off.

    They're such beautiful animals.

Yes, that's right...I do remember you posting about your love and indentification with elephants a few years ago on your blog.

I love elephants too. So sweet and gentle, yet can look fierce and imposing. I saw a documentary once on elephants; showing that they actually mourn and cry over the death of another elephant.

And it's ironic you mentioned horses because I once had an Indian shaman tell me that a horse was one of my totem animals.

"horses are free yet also loyal and loving."

You said it! They need to run free, yet also loyal and loving creatures.

Being a magician's assitant was SUCH a highlight in my life. It was soooooooooo much fun! And if you actually knew HOW these magical illusions are performed, you would say, "OMG....that's so simple!" Magic IS simple, it's just an illusion.

And yes, I too hate to see caged animals. However, these tigers were sooooo well taken care of. And with all the killing of tigers (for their furs) it's actually much better to know that these trained tigers are safe and protected from such violent and cruel acts.

"Incidentally, I must do a bit of name dropping and tell you that I've met Jane Fonda. She was a guest speaker at the WI's National AGM and I got to speak to her. Isn't she marvellous?"

  17. Hey, Ron, excellent post. That's a great story about you being in the magic act. And I'll make sure not to make your mad since I've got enough problems without a tiger gunning for me! Lately I've feeling an affinity for felines myself, but of the smaller variety. Specifically, I find myself connecting with alley cats. I put out food for the cats in my neighborhood and it's fascinating to watch them come out and feed--they're survivors, living through all kinds of weather and finding food and shelter wherever they can. That's a good role model for all of us. Have a great weekend, buddy!

  18. Hey there Rob~

Thanks, bud. It was soooooooooooooooooo much fun being a magician's assistant. I only did a few illusions with them, but the memories of perfoming them LIVE and being scared to death that I was going to SCREW them up, was nerve-wracking.

"And I'll make sure not to make your mad since I've got enough problems without a tiger gunning for me!"

    Bwhahahahahahahahahahaha! HILARIOUS!

No, it takes A LOT to make me ROAR.

You are so right - they're survivors and EXCELLENT role models. I enjoy being around cats because they somehow balance me. I like how they don't get frazzled over things. They just adapt. They're very patient too. A great lesson for me!

  21. So did you have to sign a nondisclosure agreement when you worked for the illusionist? Do you know any trade secrets? Do you still like magical illusions? Do you like Penn & Teller? Did you see The Illusionist with Ed Norton?

All these questions. I wish I could share my own animal persona with you, Tiger-Ron, but I don't know. I'll have to give it some thought. Very interesting set of facts about the tigers too!

hope you have an outstanding labor day weekend - we both send our love. xoxo, Diane

  22. Hey Ronnie! Happy Friday! Well I gotta say I can definitely see how you identify with a Tiger. For me the animal I think I most identify with is a horse. LOVED your questions!!!!

"So did you have to sign a nondisclosure agreement when you worked for the illusionist? Do you know any trade secrets? Do you still like magical illusions? Do you like Penn & Teller? Did you see The Illusionist with Ed Norton?"

No, I didn't have to sign a nondisclosure agreement, but I DID promise not to reveal HOW the illusions were done. And besides, if you ever knew how they were done, you would laugh because they're VERY simple. It's all about 'speed and timing' - creating an ILLUSION.

OMG...I LOVED The Illusionist with Ed Norton!!!! In fact, I've seen it several times. GREAT film!

That's okay, if you ever discover what your animal persona is, just let me know.

Me? If you'd asked me a few decades ago, I'd have unhesitatingly said 'a cat'. I'm secretive, keep myself to myself a lot, sleep a lot, have a certain amount of contempt for an awful lot of people, and I love to see without being seen .. not in a voyeuristic kind of way, just being on the sidelines, watching stuff.

However, now I'm allergic to them, and I've switched my allegiance to greyhounds - the most cat-like of all the dog breeds. Coincidence? Or do I just take on the characteristics of whatever animal I'm with most?

OMG...I LOVE YOU, JAY!!! "...have a certain amount of contempt for an awful lot of people."

Thanks for your honesty! And I can totally relate (Libra thing perhaps?) because I too feel that way sometimes. I would much rather be around animals than some people.

OTHER folks say I'm a cat--standoffish, independent, never admits they're wrong, goes after the ones that clearly don't want to be bothered and always MEANS to slip and slide into the nearest table/refrigerator/wall.

Since I don't like cats as a whole--I deny any 'connection' to cats whatsoever. (big or small)

The back yard is such a zoo.....LOL I enjoy all the critters company.

    But 'connection'?
    Notsomuch--food source, perhaps.....LOL....but 'connection'? Nahhhhhh.

If you promise not to tell-- I'd say I connect with stuffed bears. And potentially live ones, though we've not done a face to face, eyeball to eyeball yet. (THANK you G-d!!) Stuffed bears talk to me.
    G'head.......laugh......

    As do rubber duckies.

Well......they squeak more than talk, but you know what I mean......

  38. Hey there Mel~

"Oh go figure it's a tiger you identify with.

    Absolutely! To a "T".

    For TIGER - HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!

"OTHER folks say I'm a cat--standoffish, independent, never admits they're wrong, goes after the ones that clearly don't want to be bothered and always MEANS to slip and slide into the nearest table/refrigerator/wall.

I know, I've heard you say that before. Yet, you also said that cats are very attracted to you and come up to you in a room.

Ya see, cats can tell the people who are COOL, so that's WHY they come up to you! So, I think deep down you're a cat lover and you just don't know it yet - HA!

"If you promise not to tell-- I'd say I connect with stuffed bears. And potentially live ones, though we've not done a face to face, eyeball to eyeball yet. (THANK you G-d!!) Stuffed bears talk to me.

Bwhahhahahahahahaaha! That's faaaaaaaabulous, Mel! And I gotta say, I connect with stuffed bears and rubber duckies too!

Yup...and they squeak to me too!

    *wink*

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. LOVED your comment!

Have a great rest of your weekend!

  39. hi there again.... i have been thinking about this ever since you posted it and i read it in my reader....firstly i was surprised that you so admired Jane, she has had too much work done, in my not so humble opinion but otherwise i have always felt she got a bad rap...i mean really...........

i still don't know what animal i am.....i think i am not but rather a bird but that doesn't count if we are talking about mammals.....i really have thought about this and cannot think what i might be in the animal kingdom nor do i feel a particular bent towards anything as you do the tiger....probably a mountain lion if anything pops up.....nocturnal, but so are bats, ummm.... well, i'll keep thinking about it.

thank you for such a lovely post and much love to you, my dear. xoxoxo

  40. Hello there Linda~

Fab to see ya, dear friend! Hope you're enjoying your time with the family!

"firstly i was surprised that you so admired Jane, she has had too much work done, in my not so humble opinion but otherwise i have always felt she got a bad rap...i mean really........."

HA! Yes, she has had a lot of work done, I agree. However, that still doesn't effect the way I admire her for being both an incredible actress, and also for her direct honesty. She openly shares about her struggles, her depression, her fears, her past relationships, her vanity, etc. She puts it ALL out there and doesn't care what people think.

    THAT'S why I adore her.

It honestly doesn't bother me that she's had 'work' done because she talks opening about it in her book.

"i still don't know what animal i am.....i think i am not but rather a bird but that doesn't count if we are talking about mammals.....'

No, I meant ANY animal, not just mammals.

And I can TOTALLY see you as a bird because of all the wonderful photos and posts you've shared on your blog over the years.

    Birds are AMAZING animals!

If I were a bird, I think I would be a crow. LOVE them!

Thank you sooooooo much for stopping by, Linda! Hope you're feeling well and enjoying this long holiday weekend!

HAPPY LABOR DAY to you and your family!

  41. I'm not sure what animal I would identify myself with. Probably a dog. I'm loyal to a fault. I'm also very protective. It's interesting to think about. I do like to hibernate during the winter. I think I need to move to the tropics.

  42. "Oh how wonderful! No, I didn't realize that greyhounds are the most cat-like of all the dog breeds. But that makes perfect sense. The photos you share of your dogs are always so precious."

Aw, thanks, Ron! Yep, indeed they are 'cat-like'. They're lazy, self-interested, and sleep three-quarters of the day. They know exactly how to deal with luxury and can throw a wobbly if they dont' get it. Also, they loooooove being stroked and petted, and think everyone is born to be their servant.

Oh yeah, and greyhounds love to hunt small game, and movement triggers the hunting instinct. I rest my case.

"And believe it or not, as I've gotten older, I too have developed an allergy to cat dander. I have to be very careful not to touch my eyes after petting a kitty."

Believe it or not, that's EXACTLY what happens with me. If I stroke a cat (outside in the open air) and don't touch my face, I'm usually OK. Inside, locked up with the cat dander, it's another story, and I can't breathe well.

  43. Hey there Jen~

"I'm not sure what animal I would identify myself with. Probably a dog."

OMG, and I thought for sure you would say a horse!

"I'm loyal to a fault. I'm also very protective."

    Well, you're right....that's a dog also.

"I do like to hibernate during the winter. I think I need to move to the tropics."

I'm telling ya, you would LOVE Florida! I can picture you living Ocala - it's horse country!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Hope you're enjoying a fab holiday weekend!

HHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA! Thank you so much for sharing that info. because I had no idea what greyhounds were like. And yup, you're so right....they do sound very cat-like! I bet I would enjoy having one.

Isn't is awful? I read somewhere that you can develope an allery to cats at anytime. It's ashame, because as both by cats got older (19-years old) and were ill, that's when I developed this allergy. And all I wanted to do is pick them up and love on them because they were so sick. But, I really had to watch touching my eyes afterwards.

Thanks so much for stopping back and sharing, dear lady. I ALWAYS enjoy our chats!

    Have a grrrrrreat day......X

Maybe it's cus i love cats and they are like big fluffy cats - did you see that video awhile back about those two guys that rescued a tiger as a baby, raised him and then released him into the wild. but, then reunited with him like ten years later and the tiger gave them a huge hug??? it's the cutest thing ever!

  46. Hi, Ron!

I'm commenting from beautiful Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I know I'm a couple of days late reading, but even on vacation, I will get caught up on your blog!

I know exactly what you mean about connecting with an animal. It's almost a spiritual experience. I've never thought about what animal I would be, but somehow think I would be an orca or a dolphin. I just love the water and the peaceful atmosphere under the sea.

I find that we have so much more in common every time I read a blog of yours. I was a magician's assistant at one time as well. I never worked with animals, but did a few of the bigger illusions involving getting inside boxes, being pierced with swords, and emerging not only unscathed, but in a different dress than I was wearing when I entered the box. I loved it!

Hope you have a wonderful Labor Day!

    XOXO

"um, well not surprised. but I have ALWAYS wanted a white tiger like jasmine on Aladin. haha."

Bwhahahahahahahahaha! You GO, girl! And I know what you mean because white tigers are GORGEOUS!
Everytime I see a white tiger, I think of the magicians Siegfried and Roy because they actually breed and raise white cats at their home in Las Vegas!

    Yup...I love cats too!

"two guys that rescued a tiger as a baby, raised him and then released him into the wild. but, then reunited with him like ten years later and the tiger gave them a huge hug??? it's the cutest thing ever!"

    Aw....that sounds soooooo wonderful!

And thanks so much for leaving the video link! I will definitely watch it sometime this evening.

Always FAB seeing ya, bestie! Hope you're having a great weekend and a Happy Labor Day tomorrow!

    Hellooooooooooo myfwbs!!!!

" I know I'm a couple of days late reading, but even on vacation, I will get caught up on your blog!

    You're SUCH a SWEETHEART!

    (((( You )))))

OMG....I TOTALLY didn't expect you to stop by while on vacation this weekend, so THANK YOU! You made my weekend!

"I know exactly what you mean about connecting with an animal. It's almost a spiritual experience. I've never thought about what animal I would be, but somehow think I would be an orca or a dolphin. I just love the water and the peaceful atmosphere under the sea."

    Exactly....it's a spiritual experience!

And I can SO totally see you indentifying with a dolphin because of your love of water. Dolphins are such amazing creatures. VERY intelligent (and intuitive) and so full of love. They always look like they're smiling!

"I find that we have so much more in common every time I read a blog of yours. I was a magician's assistant at one time as well. WOW WHEEEE! You were a magicians assitant too????? Yup...we DO have a lot in common because I have never met anyone else who has done that.

Wasn't it FUN? And if people only knew just how simple stage illusion tricks are done, they would be amazed, wouldn't they? It's all about speed, timing, and quick changes!

Thanks again for stopping by, girl! Hope you're having a great time on your vacay! Wishing you and your hubby, and friends a HAPPY LABOR DAY!

    Have a safe trip home!

    XOXO

Much like you - I also identify with the Tiger! Must be the Libra in me! xoxo
