Hi everyone! Hope you had a wonderful last week. I missed y’all very much!
Okay, first, I have to warn you that this is going to be a post with a lot of information and explaining, so grab a cup of coffee and sit back for 760 words.
Sorry to have to do this to you guys on a Monday morning, but this new template needs explaining so that you’ll understand how it works.
Second, I want to thank web designer, Chica Blogger, for providing me with this AWESOME free template. If you’re on Blogger or Wordpress and are looking for a blog makeover, please stop by and check out her website. She’s faaaaaaaabulous! She was even so sweet as to return an email I sent her asking a question about something, AND she responded promptly. So thank you, Chica!
This new blog design is brighter and more animated than my previous design, and that’s exactly what I was going for. I wanted a design that would be colorful, inviting, and entertaining.
Besides, I’m gay. And you know how some of us GAY MEN are….we’re colorful, animated, and DRAMATIC.
The biggest addition to this new template is the content slider you see under the header on my home page. Normally a slider is used to highlight featured posts, but I chose to use it to feature 5 out of the 9 categories I’ve added on this blog. And the cool thing about it is that when you run your cursor over any of the image categories and click, it will you take you to that specific category.
Note: the slider is only visible on my home page.
Additionally, I installed a category widget on my sidebar with all 9 categories listed, so that you can navigate through them from any page.
I republished over 50 posts from my other two blogs, so there may be new posts that some of you haven’t read yet. Mainly, I migrated these posts from my review blog, so there’s a lot of new things pertaining to product reviews, advice, and how-to’s. Feel free to browse through those two categories whenever you wish because you might find some helpful and cool stuff there. I also added some photos from my photo journal blog in the photography category.
Another big change is that my posts are now displayed in a read more feature. I wanted this feature so that it would be quicker to view and navigate through my archives. It’s also more efficient for some of my readers who like to wait until I publish 2-3 posts and then stop by to read them all at one time. Just so you know, anytime you come to my blog the most recent post will always be on the top left-hand side corner.
Note: You can either click on the read more button or the post title itself, to open the post.
You’ll notice, too, that I’ve added and subtracted a few pages from my navigation bar below the header. I had to add a disclaimer page because I am now sharing my opinion and advice on product reviews; therefore I have to legally COVER MY ASS.
One of the things that this new design has which I missed having on my previous design is a footer, because it frees up space on your sidebar. So if you scroll down to the very bottom, you’ll find my blog roll and affiliate buttons.
I will most likely continue to republish posts from my other two blogs a little at time for the next couple of weeks, so you might see these on your feed reader. I’m weaving them between my other posts, so the dates you see on these posts will be dated backwards.
For now, I am going to continue posting twice a week on Vent, but will probably be moving to three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). I haven’t definitely figured all that out yet, so please bear with me as I come up with a comfortable schedule for myself.
This blog will be a work in progress.
So there you have it, folks….the new Vent! It was a BITCH of an undertaking, but I’m SO GLAD I did it because I learned a lot. I still have some tweaking I need to do, but I'll be doing that in the next couple of days.

I must say the new style blog looks impressive but there's such a lot to look at I'll have to leave some of it until I have more time, probably later today. I guess I'll sort out my favourite reads before long. Hoping your Monday is marvellous.

Isn't the slider FUN?
Glad to hear the font is easy to read because that's one of the things I had to change in the code. It came with a different font, but I prefer Verdana font on websites because it's easier to read (at least for me).

I'm also signed up with Blogads, which will take a bit more time to get advertisers interested in running ads on this blog because it's a HUGE advertising company and they have A LOT of blogs to choose from.

I agree! I've been wanting to try a slider for the longest time but couldn't find a template that had one, and also had a movie/film theme to it. My goal is to change the slider photos every month, so that it gives everyone something new to look at.

Funny, I was thinking of YOU yesterday too! I started the change about 10 PM, and didn't finish until 2:15 AM!

That's really why I did this because it's such a pain to have to go to THREE different blogs to read them. Within the next few weeks I'll come up with a new posting schedule where I can filter in other posts besides my usual commentaries.

Actually, it's very easy once you get use to it.
I wanted this new blog design to be like play station where you can pick and choose what you want to read and investigate.

I've been wanting to do this (consolidate) my blogs together for almost a year now, so I thought it was time to finally just bite the bullet and do it. It was a lot of work, yes, but it taught me a lot too. It's funny, because I never imagined that I would ever be interested in web design customizing because I thought it would be too difficult. But honestly, it's really not. It just takes time. I mean if I can do it, anyone can.

Well, when I first started this blog (in 2007) I had originally thought the theme would be like a Ventriloquist. My first blog name was "Ventriloquist....throwing my voice." However, the URL name Ventriloquist was already taken, so I made it 'triloquist' and then switched the whole name AND the theme to "Vent....a series of takes."
It's funny how things evolve, isn't it?

Yes, it was a lot of work, but I am so glad I did it. I'm still tweaking some stuff, here and there. As I shared in my first post, all the changes have to made through the coding, and I'm not as familiar with CSS as I am with HTML, therefore it's taking me a bit getting use to.
