It’s been an interesting journey, so far, learning about running ads on a blog.
I’ve tried using a few different advertising companies, one of which I was surprised even accepted me because they normal (and they even stated this in their email) only offer to run their ads on blogs that have a much higher page view than mine, but they decided to accept me anyway because they saw potential.
Ooooo….so I guess I should have felt honored, right? NOT!
I used their services for about two weeks and realized that it was just WAY TOO time consuming, because it involved A LOT leg work in bidding for ad pricing with other bloggers. Also, their whole set up and advertising system was just WAY TOO confusing. So, a few weeks ago I took their ad code off my blog.
After a few other attempts at working with online ad companies who offered to be the “middle man” in getting ads for my blog, I decided that I just wanted to do it myself and make it simpler by offering my own prices, and using an online payment liaison like PayPal.
I did, however, keep my account with Google Affiliate Network, because it enables bloggers to pick and choose the ads they wish to run on their blogs, unlike, AdSense.
I’m mean I’m happy to run ads that I approve of on my blog, and possibly make a supplement, but advertising is not something I want to spend THAT much time on. I mean if this works out to be something lucrative fine, but if it doesn’t, I’m okay with that too.
What I’m doing now (as you can read on the advertising page below my header) is that I’m offering ad space from month to month, and offering a discount on a two month ad run.
You can also read that I have included an advertising guideline on this page, so that potential advertisers CLEARLY understand what is acceptable before they contact me. One of the things I’m adamant about is not offering companies a link exchange or placing their business links within my posts.
It’s one thing to run ads or to OPENLY write sponsored reviews for a company on a blog, but it’s a completely different (and I feel unethical) thing to HIDE business links within my content, just so that advertisers get more TRAFFIC.
This brings me to my point in writing this post.
I wonder….can people READ????
Or do certain persistent businesses choose to ignore it and think that by offering me money to hide their links anyway; I’ll take their bait and bite?
I can’t tell you HOW MANY emails I’ve gotten over the past two months from companies who offered to compensate me for hiding their links, when I specifically say on my ad page that I DO NOT do this.
Last week, I got an email from a company who offered me money to place their link within my next post. And after responding to them by saying, NO, and that I clearly stated this on my advertising page, they had the BALLS to send me another email, requesting that I tell my other blogging friends about their offer in case they were interested in doing it.
OH. MY. GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don’t these people get the answer NO????????????????
So I’ve decided to write a post about it, in the hopes that they’ll better understand my English.
Advertisers:
I DO NOT OFFER TO HIDE YOUR BUSINESS LINKS WITHIN MY POSTS.
I repeat.
I DO NOT OFFER TO HIDE YOUR BUSINESS LINKS WITHIN MY POSTS.
I repeat.
I DO NOT OFFER TO HIDE YOUR BUSINESS LINKS WITHIN MY POSTS.
And after reading this, if you still insist on sending an email, compensating me for hiding your links within my posts, well then….
Note: And how much do you wanna bet I get another email today, asking me to hide their business link within my posts?
