Swan Lake And Tutus

There are two things I cherish about my job.

1. The company that I represent and the product I sell.

2. And the people I work with.

As most of you know, the people you work with can make or break your workday. Therefore, if you really enjoy your coworkers, it makes going into work so much more pleasurable.

My coworkers and I are very diligent in our jobs, but we like to have fun at the same time.

I sincerely believe that when people bring humor into their workplace, it makes for a more enjoyable work experience, so you produce more.

You will often hear laughter coming from our department because we’re forever cracking each other up with funny stories or crazy shenanigans. And we're fortunate, because we all seem to enjoy a similar sense of humor.

I also need to add here that these same people were extremely loving, caring and kind to me when my mother passed away last November, both emotionally and financially. While I was gone for two weeks, they all pitched in and supported and promoted my business so that my figures wouldn’t go down during my absence.

I feel very blessed to work with such an awesome group of ladies and gents, because the business I'm in, you don't find that too often.

True Confession

I’ve always had a secret desire to put on a tutu and dance in the ballet, Swan Lake.

Yeah, I know...I ain't right.

To me there is something so thrilling about the feel of a tutu around my waist, as I perform 32 continuous fouettés en tournant without getting dizzy and throwing up.

Now mind you, I’ve never danced ballet in my life. And because I’m 57 years old and MALE, I will probably never get a chance to put on a tutu and dance in ANY ballet, let alone, Swan Lake.

HOWEVER...

Last Friday my dream came true, when I was finally able to wear a tutu and dance to the music of Swan Lake.

One of the gentlemen I work with is involved in theater as a choreographer and show director, who just so happened to have a few TUTUS at home, which he keeps on hand as costumes for the dancers in his shows.

And when he told me that he would bring TWO tutus in last week (one for me and one for my coworker, Lisa) I reacted with such excitement and enthusiasm, you would have sworn he was bringing me the Holy Grail.

On the day that the tutus arrived, Lisa and I INSTANTLY put them on and started posing, twirling, and dancing as if we were prima ballerinas.

But as you will see in the video clip, I’m MUCH prettier than Lisa.

Anyway...

A bunch of my coworkers took out their iPhones and snapped photos and video clips of the two of us.

OMG…it was SO. MUCH. FUN.

Here is a short clip I put together with photos, video and music of prima ballerina, Lisa and Ron, getting ready to perform, Swine Lake.

Please enjoy…

  1. OMG .. fully clothed ballerinas! I was expecting the full outfit complete with scantily covered chest. Loved the footwork and your audacity to dance at work. Nice movement, Ron.

The crowd you work with sound great. It makes all the difference to everyday life when the people around you are friendly and helpful and NICE.

    Happy Monday.

  2. bwhwhahahahahahha. ron, you kill me. how funny was that and i really enjoyed that you tried to hide when a customer saw you. oh no, i want you to put that tutu back on and you better work! wear it proudly.

your coworkers sound sweet and fun. i do love some of my coworkers, but i doubt i help make their work day more productive. now if we could wear tutus at work, i'd work my behind off.

enjoy the day, snow is coming. if you hear any howling coming from the jersey side, it's me. i'll stop once it stops snowing.

  3. Well, I was expecting a more dramatic conclusion, but nice interpretation, Ron! I love how you attempted to hide from a customer!

And YES, coworkers can make or break a job. My daughter who is a nurse, can't stand any of her patients, but she loves her coworkers!

I had a friend in grad school who came to a Halloween party in the full ballerina get-up - pink leotard, tights, tutu - hairy back and all. It was a hoot.

And you know what? What right-thinking person't DOESN'T want a tutu? I know I do!

That's wonderful! During the Christmas holidays when the customers can get very irritable and impatient, it's my coworkers who keep me laughing.

  23. Bravo!! Or should I say Brava, you looking so adorable in your pink tutu! That was fun to watch, and just what I needed since I'm in AGONY this morning. OMG, our snow that turned to rain... bleh! I wasn't all that upset about it initially just thinking it was winter's last little attempt to not be forgotten forever, but I slipped on the slush in my driveway TWICE while cleaning off my car and wrenched my already sore shoulder, which in turn made the elbow (which has been giving me grief for weeks) hurt even more. What a Monday! Oh, but I'm happy to be here for the laugh. You, Lisa, Ben and your other coworkers must be a joy to be around. I'll have to get myself over to Philly one of these days!

The camaraderie with co-workers is just one thing I miss about not working in newspapers. We all seemed to share the same wacky sense of humor, finding something funny in just about any situation. Working for myself, I have to take the humor where I find it -- fortunately, I have VERY funny blogging friends!

  28. Question: did you guys fight over the pink tutu? Because clearly, that one is the most fabulous.

I agree with what your assessment that having great coworkers can make your job so much more satisfying. I think that's one of the reasons I didn't last long in my last job (5 months): I never really connected with anybody. That hasn't been a problem anywhere else I've worked.

"One of the gentlemen I work with is involved in theater as a choreographer and show director, who just so happened to have a few TUTUS at home, which he keeps on hand as costumes for the dancers in his shows."

  50. Yes! I worked for Dillards for two years when I was in college full time. (28-30 yrs old) The store I worked at was in an upper middle class area so the business was steady but it wasn't crazy like the other malls because it was an older, smaller mall down the street from a mega.

I wasn't a manager so I didn't have that stress. Most fun job ever! (sigh...)

  51. That store sounds EXACTLY like the Dillards in Orlando, Florida, which I use to frequent a lot - upper middle class and steady business. I love Dillards because it's a classy store, without it having an 'attitude.'

"I wasn't a manager so I didn't have that stress. Most fun job ever!"

Let me tell ya, I don't miss managing at all. I did it for two years and realized that I CANNOT manage other people.

Thanks for stopping back, girl. Hope you had a faaaabulous day!

  56. Ron, I tried to leave a link to a you tube video in my comment, but it won't let me. Go to you tube and type in 'swan lake with men'

It's hilarious and thought you would enjoy it.

  57. Hey Matt, yes, sometimes this commenting format won't let a reader leave a link because it thinks it's spam. But I went over to You Tube and found the clip you were referring to. OMG...that was HYSTERICAL!!!!!!!

    Thanks for sharing, buddy!!!
