I'm alive, and Merry Christmas!

Yes, I’m still alive and surviving retail.

I think.

Honestly, I can hardly believe it, but this year has been so much busier than last. Shopping started earlier this year and people are still shopping strong. I have no idea where everyone is getting the money to spend in this economy, but they’re spending it. And it’s even more surprising to see a large percentage of customers using CASH.

Weekday shopping has been a little slow, however evenings and weekends have been CRAZY. The store gets jam-packed with like a MILLION people; all coming to see Santa. It’s been an absolutely delight to see all the little ones with their parents. Because I work in a city store, I normally don’t catch a glimpse of so many adorable tots, so it’s been very heart-warming to view Christmas through their sweet eyes.

Most customers have been an absolute pleasure to wait on, however some would have tested the patience of even the Dali Lama.

Having not had a day off since last Monday, and working 9 1/2 hour days with only one throw-it-down-my-throat-fifteen-minute-lunch-break, my patience and tolerance levels have often reached a whole whopping half a second. And I still have five more days to go!

But you’ll be glad to know that I haven’t had even ONE, “Me no like this color….does this bag come in blue” customer.

PRAISE GOD!

Yet, all and all it hasn’t been so bad that I wanted to SLAP a customer across the face with Bavarian Cream Pie.

But, I still may.

Anyway folks, since I won’t be posting again until after the big day, I would like to take this time to wish each and everyone of you and your families.….a Very Merry Christmas.

Thank you for your comments and emails this past week, because they’ve been such a joy after a long tiring day at work.

Please know how much I appreciate your presence here, and the two abundant gifts you’ve shared with me throughout this year.

The energy of your words and your love.

Grazie mille!

*Italian for, Thank you so much!

Merry Christmas everyone!

  2. Love the pic!

I work retail as well and the days are long and exhausting. One client yelled at me yesterday, loudly and meanly. Sucked the air out of my whole day. Too bad, because the rest of them are actually really nice and make my job a pleasure most of the time.

    Happy Christmas!

  3. I am SO relieved that the more difficult 'blue' customers stayed away ... OR DID THEY, THERE'S STILL TIME Heehee. One medal on it's way for your patience and good humour throughout these busy pre-Christmas days. Keep smiling, Ron, and have a simply wonderful Christmas break when it comes. Yuletide greetings to the best blogger in Blogland. Christmas hugs, don't use them all at once {{{Ron}}}

  4. Ho Ho Ho! Merry Christmas, sir!!

I love the jet with the reindeers. And I'm just thrilled that your week hasn't been plagued with 'Me no like' customers! That's a nice prezzie in and of itself.

You just hang in there--it's the week before Christmas and it's sure to get a bit crazier. You'll do fine, no doubt. Don that reindeer nose and antlers, look cute and holler your season's greetings! I'm sure that'll make lots of people smile -- and it'll help you see the humor in all of it.

Happy Holidays to you and yours. I do hope you enjoy the spirit of the holiday once the madness has stopped.

  9. You must have the patience of Job to deal with the public at such a crazy time of year. I was in retail briefly over 30 years ago, and that was only for about 7 months until I realized it wasn't for me. Although I admire you, I certainly do not envy you.

Soon it will be over, and you'll be back to the normal pace. In the meantime, I baked a Bavarian cream pie for you. Just in case.

    P.S. The cartoon is hilarious.

Of course, you'll have to lightly crush it before you slap them so that the spicy juices are flowing. Merry Christmas,

  64. I remember Christmas working in retail. Christmas day consisted of waking up late in the afternoon, struggling to stay conscious long enough to get a bowl of kraft dinner down my throat, and then passing out so I could be up the next day at cruel o'clock and ready for action. I know you won't get any, but since it's what you need most I will still wish you peace for the holidays - be well my friend!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Yes, you said that perfectly!

I was so tired Christmas eve, that I layed on the floor after taking a hot shower and literally went unconscious. However, I actually had a nice, peaceful Christmas day.

Today was a bit rough, getting up and going into work for all the RETURNS!!!

Thankfully, I have tomorrow off - yaaaaaaaaay!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend!

Hope you had a blessed Christmas!
