I’ve often shared with you in past blog posts of how much I genuinely love my job. Even with the bitching and moaning I sometimes do about working with the public, and dealing with the tremendous amount of competitiveness in this industry, I have such a passion for offering the public what it is that I sell.

Allow me say first and foremost, that in order for me to sell something I have to have pride in it. Believe in it. Because if I don’t, I truthfully can’t sell it. If I don’t ‘feel’ it, I can’t make someone else feel it.

The company I work for does everything first class, or they don’t do it all.

They are a company who creates their product without worrying whether the public is going to embrace it. They don’t go after the public, they have a way of making the public come after them. And they do this because they create what THEY love, and just assume the public will.

And it does.

The product I represent has a strong following. It may not be as large as some of the other companies in this industry, but it has a loyal following. People who will only use this product.

People who will wait patiently, until this company creates something new.

One of the things I most admire about my company, is that they don’t create new products in a massive hurry. They may only create something new, once or twice a year. They don’t flood the market with too much, so their product remain rare and precious.

They allow the public to want them.

They are also a company who donates a percentage of their sales to various charities throughout the year.

They graciously distribute their success and wealth.

The economy as we all know right now, is not very grand. So selling times are tough, like with most businesses. Therefore, as I’ve shared with you before, my company had to cut back on my hours last Spring. But I can’t say that I was angry or upset with them for doing so, because I knew it would eventually happen. However, the manner in which they did it was very professional and with TLC. I can honestly say, they genuinely care about their employees.

My boss, the person I take my direction from, is someone I also admire and respect. She’s a hard worker. And she’s smart, because she trusts me enough to sell in the manner in which I do (softy), and has faith that I will produce what needs to be produced each year. She never hounds or rides me in any way, she just let’s me be.

Is my job always perfect? No, of course not. Who’s job is?

Yes, I love my company, but I don't always love the industry.

However, right now I’m grateful to have a job, and with a company who strives to give it their best.

Not a whole hell of a lot of people can say they love and have great pride in the company they work for for the past 5 ½ years.

But, I can.

And I’m so happy about that, because it makes me feel more passionate about going to work.

Thank you, company!

in this economy it's wonderful just to have a job so to be like the job and the company is a bonus

but you deserve that since I know you're a wonderful salesperson with heart and humor

the video didn't show up but Louis and that song are my favorites :)

  3. You're a man after my own heart, Ron. I couldn't work for a company I didn't like. There would be nothing worse than toiling unwillingly. That's not to say I never groused about something... my various bosses learned to duck when that happened. Heehee, I'm kidding. So I'm glad you love your company and delighted that you share my love of Louis Armstrong singing about our wonderful world. Have a good week and enjoy the approach to the festive season. Hugs for you.

  4. heheh ... you are in a good mood today Ron ? Great post for a Monday !

I and not very good at being a representative to the public.
However, my career path would keep me inside an industrial environment all the time. 'Customers' would be like minded individuals who are in the same business.

And there's the occasional brushing with the government - gotta love those bureaucrats - they are such a refreshing change when they call-in by surprise

Wow, Ron, you are indeed fortunate. And point well taken about being grateful to have a job. I remind myself of that fact every day when I get up in the morning. Whatever you can say about work, it beats the hell out of no work!

Me neither. In the past, I've worked for companies that I didn't feel passionate about and ended up quiting because I honestly couldn't sell it.

Yes, and feeling sooooooooooo grateful for my job. Perhaps it's the holidays.

Yeah, I can totally understand your feelings about working with the public, it's VERY trying at times. For me, it's can be both annoying and enjoyable. And a GREAT test of my ZERO patience - HA! Yes, I get the annoying customers, but I also get the ones of are so appreciative, so it's worth it.

  11. It's good to actually like the company you work for and your job. I'm fairly convinced that the only people that LOVE their jobs are Stephen King and Martha Stewart. I know there's more but these two seem to have it pretty good.

My job is very boring but I do care a great deal for my boss and try to do the best for him. He's very good to his employees. (Tiffany earrings + a bonus for Christmas!)

I also think that if you like your job/company, you excel at it. Ron, I'm thinkin' you are excellent at your job and the company you work for is lucky to have you.

Leesa and I talked on the phone on Saturday, and we also chatted about you. See, here we are two ladies in Paris talking kindly and admiringly about you, sweet Ron.

And I tell ya, I have had jobs where I certainly did NOT feel that the the mission of the organization was important. Perhaps you have too.

  25. You're lucky, Ron. I've been kicked around by more than one company in the last ten years - makes it hard to be proud of your employer in that situation. Not many people can say they love what they do for a living, but you seem to be the exception to the rule. You know what? I think that's FAAAAAABULOUS!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Definitely cold here in Iowa--it was a whopping 6 degrees this morning and threatening to get colder tonight. So yup--Brrrrrrrrr!

I'm extremely glad for you to be employed by a company that you respect and believe in.
I cannot say enough about how the agency I've been a part of for a very long time has stood by the people who work for them. Honestly, there were times when I was unwell that I was far from 'carrying my weight'. They carried me for some time--without a second thought.

As economic times have changed there's been some decisions made that have disheartened me--I'd be well served to remember the history they have with me, personally.....and the numerous times they extended that same compassion and care to the staff who work with me/for me.

They somehow escape me--those wondrous things that have made me a proud member of this agency....mostly when I get fearful.
Go figure I managed to get piffy with some of my employers today--and then landed here.....to be reminded....
    So.....
Yes, I'll clean up my mess.

And YES--it is, indeed, a wonderful world.

I swear the webcam must be on and you're spying on me!!!! Pffffffffffft!

Yup...I've experienced the same thing with other companies in past years, so I can totally understand your feelings. I've worked for 'certain' companies that treated their employees horrible. I feel soooo blessed to be with the company I'm with now. They're not only good to their employees, but also produce a top-notch product.

"Honestly, there were times when I was unwell that I was far from 'carrying my weight'. They carried me for some time--without a second thought."

And that's because they know your VALUE! I bet you're WONDERFUL at what you do!

"They somehow escape me--those wondrous things that have made me a proud member of this agency....mostly when I get fearful."

I know what you mean dear lady, because I was also a bit fearful when my company made cut-backs with my hours last Spring. But they allowed me to take hours with other companies to make up for the loss, and also gave back my hours this Fall.

" swear the webcam must be on and you're spying on me!!!! Pffffffffffft!"

HHAHAHAHAHAAHHHA! Oh, how funny! No, I think it's simply because we're both LIBRA'S!!!!!

The one thing I don't talk about on my blog is my job and that's because I hate it. There was a time when I really loved it but the organization has eroded to such a lack of respect for its employees. Being in a supervisory position, it's my job to encourage and motivate my staff but it's so difficult to do in an environment that considers everyone dispensable at the drop of a hat.

  41. There are times when I love my job, and times when I wish I could just win the Lotto and walk away from the whole mess. I do have dreams of writing a book, and that keeps me going though the rough days. I think you're a more driven person than I am, Ron. I don't think I could deal working with the public. That sort of task takes a constitution far stronger than mine. Heck, that time when I was working as a bartender was the toughest job I ever had. Glad I got back into the IT field! ;-)

No, you don't sound negative at all, you're just saying what you feel. Trust me, I've been a waiter before and have to agree with you...food/bar service IS a tough job. One of the toughest jobs I've ever had.

I don't think it's that I'm more driven than you, because I'm really not a driven person, I'm actually very passive when it comes to my career. I have no goals. However, I truly LOVE what it is that I sell. And it's that love that makes me enjoy what I do. The 'working with the public part' is sometimes a major bitch, yup.

  51. Ron, I work with the public too, and I'm quite familiar with both the good and bad that comes with it. As you said to someone, I won't name my employer or specifically what it is I do. But I do like my job and the benefits. In this economy, you have to be grateful for what you have.

  53. The Old addage: When you fill yourself up with love, love of self and love of others, when you fill to the overflowing mark in your being with love, then that is all you have to give (LOVE). And when you give it away it always comes back in abundance. Hence the law of attraction. We can all feel the loving energy you have when you write about your job. It makes us all feel a little more comfortable where we are and when we read your words and feel the warmth the energy always goes back to you. Have a great day my friend.
There is no way to LOVE: LOVE is the way.

Ya know, I never thought of it that way, but you're right.

"There is no way to LOVE: LOVE is the way."

Thank you for sharing your wisdom, Dave!

    Always enjoyed and appreciated.

Hope all is well, and that you're enjoying this holiday season!

  55. Hi Ron :)
ok, here's the story. It was a bit over 2 years ago shortly after Cristy and I started dating. I had made plans to go visit my mom and stepdad in Tulsa. After I got there, Cristy decided she wanted to come up and join us.

The next morning we went out to breakfast at mom's favorite place. We were gossiping (no!) and my mom noticed another patron in the corner of the cafe. The woman clearly needed to brush out her hair. It was sort of -ahem- pushed down in the back.

My mom said, a little under her breath, "she has sex hair." Cristy glanced at me and I didn't exactly get it. So I assumed she meant to say 'sexy hair' and just let it go.

Well, later on Cristy mentioned the woman with the bed-head sex hair and I commented that I thought my mom said sexy. Cristy said no, she was quite certain that my mom said sex. And explained it in a better context so that I would fully appreciate the meaning. Ahh, now I get it.

But still, I couldn't quite comprehend that my MOM said that. And was sure it couldn't be true.

So Cristy asked her. And mom said that was exactly what she meant.

OMG!!!! WTF!!! My mom said SEX HAIR!!!

  56. I totally agree about having to have pride in what you sell in order to sell it. I could never sell something that I didn't like, or was poor quality.

Are you at least going to tell us what your company actually makes?

  57. Oh Ron!! You made ME fall in love with your company by reading this blog post. They sound AMAZING. You are very lucky to have a job where you can be passionate and believe in. Oh, and having a boss that doesn't micro-manage you is PRICELESS.

  59. Hi Babs~

"I could never sell something that I didn't like, or was poor quality."

Me neither, that's why I have such pride in my company. They're all about 'quality.'

"Are you at least going to tell us what your company actually makes?"

I wish I could. The only thing I can share is that their products have something to do with the beauty industry.

Thanks for stopping by, Babs! Always great to see ya!

    Enjoy your evening!

  61. Not many people can say they love their job or who they work for. You are very lucky. I'm still planning on getting to Philly one of these days. Not only do I want to take you out to dinner but I'd love some make up advice from an expert. I need all the help I can get.
