It’s probably a combination of age and the fact that I spend so much time on the Internet staring at a computer screen, but my farsightedness has gotten progressively worse.

I started off with reading glasses of 100 strength, however now I’m up to 175. I fear that within the next year I’ll be using my binoculars.

Now, my nearsightedness is fabulous. I can see clear across the state of Pennsylvania and over to Boston, yet ask me to read something like a book without my glasses, and I have to hold it ten feet away from me and squint.

Oh, and you should see me trying to thread a sewing needle without my glasses. It takes me two hours and a glass of wine.

I know this sounds strange, but if I can't see something properly it makes feel like I can't breathe.

A few months ago, I finally succumbed to using my glasses while shaving every morning. I had to because I was not only missing spots, but also nicking the HELL out of my skin. It was a bit tricky at first trying to shave my face with glasses on. I’ve gotten use to it, though. Sorta.

Please take a look……

Here I am with a stubbly beard.

Applying my shaving cream.

Ooops!....see what happens when you wear glasses while applying shaving cream?

Here I am carefully shaving, as not to cut myself.

Shaving my chin. My least favorite part to shave.

Here I am completely finished.

Yup….I think it’s time to bring out my binoculars. Seriously.

  1. ouch! those cuts look painful no matter how many times i saw it on others. my dad used to have bad eyesight when he was younger too. but when he got older, he didn't need the glasses that old people need for reading anymore. instead, his eyesight has gotten better because of it. it sounded weird to me, do you have that as well? or was it just plain short-sighted? i'm not sure what they called the old people version of it in english. its like positive n positive add up n become negative! ha! but i'm sure you won't be needing your binoculars for glasses anyway. you are so funny! XD

  2. Hahahahahahaha!! Oh, this one made me laugh out loud!

'It takes me two hours and a glass of wine.'

Hahah! Yep, I know the feeling. Oh, how I know the feeling, except that my problem is the opposite of yours. If I hold something to within three or four inches of my face it's crystal clear. The other side of the room, however, is shrouded in mist and mystery. You have no idea how claustrophobic that is! I literally feel blind in dim light.

I've just been for an eye test, so hopefully I'll be able to see better with my glasses (when they arrive) but I'll still be blind without them. *Sigh*

Pass the vino ... oh! I forgot. The acid reflux is playing up and I can't drink any, dammit!!

    Sucks getting old, doesn't it?

  3. Not only does it seem that you can't breathe, Ron, it often makes you think you've gone deaf as well. Had a big laugh over the binoculars. Seriously! You need someone to hold them while you squint through, a small person standing on a stool would be good. With the amount of computer peering people in the world today the small person idea could catch on. Call it jobs for the boys, or girls! I could go on but I think it's probably best if I call it a day... grins. Have a nice one!

  4. LOL oh Ron you are a card!

I know exactly what you mean though. I have to use a really strong magnifying glass to put on my eye make-up otherwise I'd look like a clown! LOL

  5. I sorta feel your pain....not that I shave my face daily, or that I'd share that part of my life if I did. *LAUGHING!*

The other morning I panicked cuz I couldn't find my glasses. Used to be a time when I'd go half way through the day and notice I didn't have 'em on. That time has passed. And I did find them, eventually. For some reason they were in bed, hiding under the blankies. And it wasn't even Monday! ;-)
I was gonna wait for a decent hour before I awakened himself to aid in the hunt.
    And then I thought--nahhhhhhhhhhhh. LOL

  7. Hey there Ronnie,

Oh boy, what you will do to get your point through! We are all witnesses to the effect of Ronnie's eyesight on his shaving talents.
I am more than sure that you needed a second pair of friendly hands to document this :)

Now, you are talking to someone who had glasses in the sixth grade, then contacts for years. And, back to glasses since 2006. I can't see far away, though I could always read w/o glasses, but I did notice the "Continental drift" before getting my last pair.

All I can say to you, my dear, is you have to roll with the punches. But, you still got nicked! Careful...

The funny thing is since yesterday, one of my eyeglass temples fell off(the screw came out & it is so tiny that I can't find it).
So, am wearing a "half missing pair" as I work at home. I have to wait until our optical shop is open tomorrow morning!!

Big hugs to ya,my friend xox

p.s. I finished my work assignment a few minutes ago!

  8. I think needing to shave everyday is worse than having a period. Well, maybe a close tie. In that first stubby beard picture you look like Vincent D'Onofrio (Law & Order) with a mustache.
Please, I gotta gotta know how to get such perfectly clean
    eyebrows, Sir hottie.

this was hysterical because the exact same thing is happening to me...what's with that?? i used to be blind as a bat and had to wear contacts to put my shoes on and take a walk...now i can see to SF but cannot find which finger goes into which hole in my gloves without my stupid readers...i have *5***** !!!!! pairs around the house too because otherwise i am running from room to room looking for them and by then, the damn spider has gotten himself well-hidden from me...hate this getting old stuff...i gave up shaving the old pits. Thank God i don't have any hair anyway....ANYWHERE!

sigh....not a pretty thing, this getting old stuff so thanks for the laughs and all the pretty pics of you and your lovely apt...did you get a really good look at those photos you posted? OMG!! You didn't see THAT??? OMG...

  10. I also enjoyed the 'two hours and a glass of wine' since I can no longer thread a needle either. I have progressive lenses, but my nearsightedness is much worse than the other. So, I end up having to take OFF my glasses to do anything close up. Very frustrating!

  12. Greetings Levian~

I think I've only shaved ONCE in my lifetime where I didn't cut myself. My only saving grace is that my blood clots quickly. With the aide of some toilet paper - HA!

".instead, his eyesight has gotten better because of it. it sounded weird to me, do you have that as well? or was it just plain short-sighted?"

No, my ability to see far is excellent, however my ability to see close is what's getting bad. It started when I was about 47. I'm now 55.

"its like positive n positive add up n become negative!"

    HA! Exactly!

I think I'll keep my binoculars handy, just in case!

Thanks for stopping by, Levian! Happy Monday to ya!

And the wine helps tremendously - tee, hee!

"If I hold something to within three or four inches of my face it's crystal clear. The other side of the room, however, is shrouded in mist and mystery. You have no idea how claustrophobic that is! I literally feel blind in dim light."

Yes, I know what you mean! Not being able to see something makes me feel the same way. The thing about needed glasses to see close is that if you don't have your glasses with you it's a pain in the ass. At least with nearsightedness, you always have your glasses/or contacts on. I'm to the point where I have THREE pairs of reading glasses - one at home, one at work, and one in my backpack.

"Pass the vino ... oh! I forgot. The acid reflux is playing up and I can't drink any, dammit!!

    Oh shucks!

Yup, getting old is fun, isn't it? NOT!

Always so great seeing you, Jay. Much thanks for stopping by!

"Had a big laugh over the binoculars. Seriously! You need someone to hold them while you squint through, a small person standing on a stool would be good. Call it jobs for the boys, or girls!"

I wear glasses but no one knows about it. So you see how often I do it... in public at the movies, at home on the computer and when watching TV. (I have had this eye issue since my first breath. Glasses cannot really fix it, my excuse huh...)

My glasses are Prada, but no I will never post about them;)

    Bwhahahahahahhahahahha! Oh, how funny!

I'm at the point where I have them with me ALL THE TIME. In fact, the first thing I do in the morning when I get out of bed, is put on my reading glasses to make coffee. I really shouldn't be wearing them as much as I do, because I think it's making my farsightedness weaker.

Oh well....such is life getting older, right?

Always great seeing ya, dear lady. Much thanks for stopping by!

  18. Thank God you were not shaving your pubic area. You could be a poster child for the American Red Cross Blood Donor Drive.
I too have to wear reading glasses. I buy them by the gross. I keep a pair near every crook and crannie in my apartment and in my office at work. I have gone from 100 power to now 275 power. Then there are times when the print is so small I put on one pair of glasses over antoher just to capture the correct print. I do not wear them when I shave (not yet) i practice the braille system and feel for the wiskers.
Well I have to go now. Where the hell is that White Cane?

"I am more than sure that you needed a second pair of friendly hands to document this."

I wish. I actually took these photos WHILE I was shaving, and it was a bitch. It took me FOREVER to get ones that weren't blurry.

" you are talking to someone who had glasses in the sixth grade, then contacts for years. And, back to glasses since 2006."

WOW! One of my brothers was the same way. He started wearing glasses when he was very young because they found out in school that he couldn't see the blackboard clearly.

Yup, and I STILL nick myself, can you believe it? I think I shave too fast at times.

"So, am wearing a "half missing pair" as I work at home. I have to wait until our optical shop is open tomorrow morning!!"

Oh shucks! The same thing happened to me with my reading glasses one time. It was so fun trying to hold my glasses on with only one eye glass temple.

I hear ya dear lady, because even WITH glasses it's still challenging for me to thread a needle. If I'm threading a black thread, it helps to hold the needle up to something WHITE so I can see the eye better. If I'm threading white, I hold the needle up to something black. It's works!

  50. Love the photos! I'm getting to be exactly the same way and I'm younger than you. It's driving me totally crazy. I think it's the time in front of the computer. It's killing my eyes.

  52. I like your stubble
    just leave it alone

I can't but my earrings in anymore without my glasses
I used to poke around so much it's a wonder I didn't make new openings

    I'm so glad I got a GPS
before that I couldn't read directions without glasses yet I couldn't drive with them on
    makes for a conflict

and once again I must say - you have beautiful eyes

I like stubble on a man too. Tom Ford - woot! woot! Sexy!

"I can't but my earrings in anymore without my glasses

Bwhahahahahahahahaha! OMG, you're funny! I have a hole in my one ear lobes when I use to wear an earring, however it's been so long since I put one in, I think I'd have to make a new opening too!

Isn't GPS one of the greatest inventions? No more reading, it just talks to you!

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady! Hope you're feeling better. I sent ya some Reiki yesterday.

  55. I used to have really bad vision before I had my eyes checked, and I still have nightmares about losing my glasses and not being able to see!
So yes, I have a hard time breathing too when I can't see clearly. I also have a hard time regulating my heart rate and anxiety levels!

    Grrrrrrrrrreat to see you!!!!!

I was thinking about you earlier this week; wondering how you were doing.

I didn't even realized you wore glasses?!?

"So yes, I have a hard time breathing too when I can't see clearly. I also have a hard time regulating my heart rate and anxiety levels!"

Isn't it the pits not being able to see properly? Truly, it feels like I can't breath!

  58. Lol! That last picture of you with the binoculars is so funny, Ron!
I remember when I got my first pair of glasses (I'm short sighted, nothing major, -2) I was so amazed at how clear I saw things, I could actually distinguish the facial features of people on the street!
Never underestimate a good pair of eyes, my friend!

  59. Greetings Alexandra~

Yeah, my binoculars are coming in handy - HA!

Isn't it amazing how much CLEARER things looks with glasses? I literally can't read a damn thing unless I have them on. I can't tell you how many times I've given a customer the wrong price on something because I wasn't wearing my glasses!

Thanks so much for stopping by. Always so nice to see you!

Hope you had a super day!
