Kidnapkining

About four years ago, I shared a post with you confessing how I would swipe a stack of napkins from Starbucks whenever I made a purchase from one of their cafes.

And I’m not talking about 5 or 6 napkins, no, I’m talking a STACK of 10 to 15.

Well guess what?

I’m still doing it.

However back then I called it STEALING, now I call it KIDNAPKINING.

And considering how many times a week I patronize Starbucks, I haven’t had to purchase a napkin in over FOUR years. I’ve got so many napkins stocked up that I could sew them all together and make a quilt the size of China!
Sometimes I have so many napkins in my kitchen cabinet, that when I open the door, I'm hit in the face with an avalanche of Starbucks napkins.

But I truly don’t feel the slightest bit guilty about this, and do you know why? Because if you add up all the cups of coffee I purchased from Starbucks over the past four years, it comes to a grand total of $36,383.20.

*And that's not even including all the baked goods I've purchased.

So do you know what?

I consider my napkins a GIFT WITH PURCHASE.

And the funny thing about this is that I now have other people kidnapping napkins for me whenever they go into a Starbucks too. Yes, I've become a napkin PIMP.

Like yesterday.

I went into Starbucks during my break at work with three of my fellow-employees, and as we were leaving the café they each handed me a stack of napkins and said, “Here you go Ron, add these to your collection.”

I replied, “Listen, could you also go into the restroom and grab a few rolls of toilet paper for me, because I’m getting kinda low.”

So remember everyone, if you ever find yourself kidnapkining  from Starbucks, don’t feel guilty because it’s a well-deserved...

Have a grrrrrrreat Monday!

  1. Hahahahaha! Sometimes I'll kidnapkin one from an interesting hotel or restaurant, but if I was going out for a life of crime, I think I'd like better quality than Starbucks. They might be different over there, but here there are thin, hard and not very absorbent.

  2. Bwahahah! That is so funny!!! Ron...you really crack me up!! I will have to start a new tradition at my local Starbucks! Hmmmm...wonder what THEY would think of this habit of yours...then again...it IS free advertising for them...each and every time we talk about Starbucks on our blogs...no such thing as bad PR ... right?? "Grab me a roll of the toilet paper" OMG...You are killin' me here!! I promise you I will think of this post every single time I walk into a Starbucks. (Although, I have to tell you that since my husband retired, we patronize Dunkin Donuts a whole lot more...since we can get a combo for a couple bucks...and there's an AARP discount!!) Happy Monday kind sir!! xo

LOL shame you can't get a bag full of coffee beans too!

  4. You wouldn't want any of ours, Ron, they're rubbish. Honestly, you wouldn't give them cupboard room. It's a great idea, though. Next time I go out for coffee I'll have a look round and see what I can filch. Do you think I should draw the line at silk flowers and proper coffee cups? Oh how many times have I said to himself 'do you think they'd miss these?'.

Have a great week, and a marvellous Monday.

  5. That's so organized - if I happen to get something that's take-out, I add whatever napkins they provide to my stash, but that's about the extent of it. I do think that you are already paying for them at a place like Starbucks since the coffee is so expensive. (Although I have to say, Starbucks coffee is so bitter I find it nearly undrinkable).

I read an article recently that tallied the lifetime expense for various habits - upscale coffees, smoking, etc. - it was a little shocking to see the numbers!

  9. Hey there Ronnie,
How are ya, babe? I don't do this but D takes sugar packets as well as salt & pepper packets when he eats out during the week! Paper napkins, a little less... Yes, this is hoarding!!

I had to deal with the aftermath of compulsive hoarders when clearing out the family home after the passing of my FIL. If it is just paper napkin hoarding, you might be able to organize those. But it was much much more for my in-laws...
I don't think that you are that bad. :)

On the plus side,I can imagine that the napkins are handy for every meal & quick wipes of the table. And how funny, the employees even know your penchant AND encourage you!

Happy Monday, you little paper hoarding squirrel :)

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA! You GO, girl! And I bet they're faaaaabulous because they're cloth, not paper.

"I think I'd like better quality than Starbucks. They might be different over there, but here there are thin, hard and not very absorbent."

Yes, that's how they are here too. The second you touch one, your finger goes right through the paper - HA!

"Hmmmm...wonder what THEY would think of this habit of yours...then again...it IS free advertising for them...each and every time we talk about Starbucks on our blogs...no such thing as bad PR ... right?? "

You are exactly right! And that's the reason why I didn't add a Starbucks link on this post because all anyone has to do is just type the word, Starbucks, in a post and the company gets FREE advertising when someone Googles "Starbucks."

"I promise you I will think of this post every single time I walk into a Starbucks. "

And tell them Ron the Napkin Pimp sent you.

    Bwhahahahhahahahaha!

"Although, I have to tell you that since my husband retired, we patronize Dunkin Donuts a whole lot more...since we can get a combo for a couple bucks...and there's an AARP discount!!"

I LOVE Dunkin Donuts as well. Their coffee and baked goods are so yummy and much cheaper than Starbucks.

Always FAB to see you, dear lady. Mucho thanks for stopping by.

    Have a wonderful week!

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAAHA! That CRACKED ME UP!

I went through a period in my life (when I was still in high school), where I would take one piece of silverware from every restaurant I ate at. OMG...by the time I was a senior in high school, I had enough silver spoons, forks, and knives to open up my own silverware store!!!!

Thanks for stopping by, dear lady. Happy Monday and week to you!

Yes, I hear that from a lot of people. I usually like my coffee very strong, so it doesn't bother me personally, but I normally get their "Pike Roast" which is a bit less bitter.

"I read an article recently that tallied the lifetime expense for various habits - upscale coffees, smoking, etc. - it was a little shocking to see the numbers!"

I don't take the napkins from Starbucks because I don't like their quality. But I do sometimes take the sugar packets and store them in my desk at work. So I guess you could call me a Sugarnapper!

    Have a wonderful week, Ron.

  20. I'm a sucker for coining new words, and "kidnapkining" is brilliant! I like the occasional latte from Starbucks, and I say occasional because at about $4.50 a pop, I can ill afford to frequent the place more often, as much as I'd like to.

I don't use sugar in my coffee, therefore I'm never tempted to take the sugar packets. I will sometimes take a couple honey packets though, to use in my hot tea.

" and I say occasional because at about $4.50 a pop, I can ill afford to frequent the place more often, as much as I'd like to."

OMG...can you believe how expensive their latte's are? That's why I feel guilty about SWIPING napkins.

    "What's your drink of choice?"

    You're gonna laugh.

Just a plain cup of coffee OR an Americano.

    I know, I'm BORING.

  23. With the cost of Starbucks coffee you would think that Obama was running the store. I too would be inclined to bring more napkins out of the store with me. Along with a table or two and perphaps enough chairs for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The price of this beverage is certainly a rip off. I know that the employees of Starbucks benefit from the money that pours in. Yet, when you pay more for a Mocha Grande Latte Superior then you do for a tankful of gasoline then I say enough is enough. Needless to say that danish is the price of the national debt. So, Ron I have enlisted the help of 17,000 illegal aliens and all of them are on a mission to get you enough napkins to put a big dent in the rain forrest. So my friend wipe your lips, your eyes and even your ass with as many napkins as you want; there will be more coming your way.

Yes, THANK YOU, I agree! And the thing that pisses me off about those drinks is that they barely have ANY coffee in them, they're all foam and fluff for $4.50.

  25. Since I go to the B & N cafe, they only give cheap white napkins so I don't take too many. I use them to write notes on sometimes though. lol Ooh, but they do have 'Sugar in the Raw', which I love, and I definitely help myself to some of those packets each time I get a drink. Since I have my drink made special (skim milk, no syrup, and less pumps of the other stuff) they are using less ingredients, so I don't feel bad taking sugar at all. It's on the help yourself bar, and for all anyone knows, I'm adding my own sugar to the drink. Except, I'm sure their primo camera system has noticed me many times leaving the store with a handful of sugar packets! Hmm... I should pick up a few straws next time I'm there for smoothies that I make at home. I never buy straws but a few tucked away in the drawer would come in handy.

Have a great week! Happy kidnapkining. Or how about nap nabbing? haha

    *shrugs* I'm a pen thief.
I make no bones about being a pen thief--and I've been trying to break the habit for years. I've taken them back to their owners and apologized only to be looked at like I'm half nuts. LOL Maybe I am--they tell me they're purchased for the advertising and to keep them. Ummm....NO! LOL
And still......I have a cup full of pens that I've discovered with absolutely NO idea where I took them from.

  53. Hey there Lowell~

" I don't think you're either, so maybe you suffer from a lack of paper in your diet? Oui?"

Bwahahhahahahaha! Ya know, I never thought of that but you could be right...I'm paper deficient in my diet!

That's what I'm going to tell them in case I'm ever arrested for kidnapkining!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy! Hope you're enjoying a wonderful week!

  54. Helloooooooooooo Meleah~

" With the prices they charge at Starbucks you should be entitled to a case of napkins with every cup of coffee. FOR REAL!"

Thank you, girl. I agree...a CASE!!

And as you can tell from my post, I have case in my kitchen cabinet - HA!

Thanks for stopping by, my Libra friend! Have a supa' week!

  55. "I consider my napkins a GIFT WITH PURCHASE."

LOL! I'm cracking up. Because I do the SAME thing, except I hoard my napkins in my purse, car and at work! I feel like a squirrel.

Like I NEED to have Starbucks napkins just in case...just in case what?

In case I get stranded in a storm for days, or weeks, and run out of paper towels, toilet paper and napkins, then I can pull out my trusty Starbucks nappies to wipe my butt?

But, ouch! They aren't all that soft! And for the price we pay at Starbucks, those napkins should not only come in a set of a dozen with every drink, they should be made of fluffy cotton--for when I wipe my nose! Yes, I use them as nose tissues.

And hey, Ron, once you spend $36,999.99, you get your name engraved on the wall ;-)

    Have a fantabulous week!

    ((YOU))

  56. Helloooooooooo Pam!

OMG...I just this second read the email you sent me and then saw your comment on THIS post. Now that's weird, isn't it? Your comment posted fine on this post, but I can't find the one on my previous post!?!? But I'm sure it will show up eventually.

"LOL! I'm cracking up. Because I do the SAME thing, except I hoard my napkins in my purse, car and at work! I feel like a squirrel."

OMG, that's so funny. And considering my LOVE of squirrels, your comment made me laugh even harder. You're right....I feel like a SQUIRREL, hoarding napkins instead of NUTS!

"In case I get stranded in a storm for days, or weeks, and run out of paper towels, toilet paper and napkins, then I can pull out my trusty Starbucks nappies to wipe my butt?"

Bwhahahahahhaha! You CRACK ME UP, WOMAN!!!

"Yes, I use them as nose tissues."

Yes, so do I!!! But you're right...they aren't all that soft.

"And hey, Ron, once you spend $36,999.99, you get your name engraved on the wall ;-)"

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HILARIOUS!!

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear friend. Hope you're having a fantabulous week!

  57. Ha ha! That reminds me of my mum. She never had a drink out without bringing a wrapped sugar home with her. She didn't take sugar, so always brought it home. She had sugars from all over France and Spain too and kept them all in a large jar :)

  58. Hey there Babs!

"She had sugars from all over France and Spain too and kept them all in a large jar :)"

It's so funny you mentioned that because back when I first started drinking coffee I used to take sugar, so I would swipe a few packets from wherever I was and brought them home; placing them into a jar.

Thanks for stopping by, my friend. Hope you're having a great week and that all went well with the doctor visit.

    ((((( You )))))

    X to you and Mo!

  59. And for the prices Starbucks charges, you deserve every one of those napkins you kidnapped.

    Kidnapkining.

    Hilarious, man!

  61. In those days sugar came in cubes. You got two cubes wrapped in fancy paper, unless it was a very basic cafe. There it would be bowl of loose cubes on the table. They usually had the name and logo of the cafe on the wrapper, so it was a little memento of your holiday.

  62. OMG...how faaaaaaaaaaabulous!

I totally forgot about sugar CUBES!!!

    "One lump or two?"

  63. I love you, Ron. You're my hero. I stole corn bread from the hotel buffet today and stuffed it in a napkin and then a coffee cup. For what we paid for the buffet, they owed me a shoebox full of corn bread and then some.

I'm in Savannah this week and have been enjoying mostly warm weather. The sun feels great, but it's very dry here and you get a cool breeze often. It's delightful. You and I should move here. Except then we'd have to move again in the summer because summer would all but kill us.

  64. This is so true and I am so glad you shared it! I find often I will take a few more sugars than I need when I hit Dunkin Donuts just for those moments where my sugar container gets low :)

    Hellooooooo Kathy in Savannah!

Bwhahahahahaha! You GO, girl! And I hope you took the napkins too - HA!

And btw, the adore corn bread!

Yes, that's the thing about the south (because I lived in Florida), it's GORGEOUS this time of the year because it's winter. But, OMG....summer there is HORRIBLE because you feel like you're living in a steam bath.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by. Enjoy the rest of your vacay!

  67. I do this too and Starbucks is really the only place I ever do it! They are great for the car and to shove in pockets of every jacket and in every bag in the house. No one wants to be caught without a napkin/tissue/gum collector.

I steal straws from Dunkin Donuts because they are ADORABLE! Pink and orange. Love it.

  68. Hey there Lora!

Me too, Starbucks is really the only place I ever do this.

"and to shove in pockets of every jacket and in every bag in the house. No one wants to be caught without a napkin/tissue/gum collector."

Funny you mentioned that because the other day I brought out my winter coat and when I reached inside one of the pockets, I found a few Starbucks napkins I must have placed inside LAST year!!!

    HAHAHAHHAAHHAHAAHA! You GO, girl!

Thanks for stopping by, neighbor. Hope you're having a wonderful week!

  69. Ron, I stopped by a few days ago and tried to leave a comment but there was no longer a way for me to leave a guest comment.

Funny post! I don't normally drink Starbucks coffee, but if I'm ever in one I'll snag you more napkins and mail them to you, okay? I'll tell them that Ron The Kidnapkin Pimp sent me!

  70. Hey there Matt~

Sorry about that buddy. Yes, something was up with Disqus and it was not allowing guest comments, so I upgraded to the new Disqus and it seems to have fixed the problem.

"but if I'm ever in one I'll snag you more napkins and mail them to you, okay? I'll tell them that Ron The Kidnapkin Pimp sent me!"

HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Thank you! And I'll reimburse you for the shipping, okay?
