"Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things"

Yes, today I suddenly feel like Julie Andrews in the movie musical, The Sound Of Music.

However, don't worry...I won't subject you to watching me TWIRL around on a mountain top while singing, "The hills are alive...with the sound of music."

But I do wish to share a few of my favorite things, so I put together some photographs of several things that DO kind of make me want to twirl around though.

And here they are...

A freshly made turkey wrap with lettuce, tomato and bacon with a Caesar dressing. HEAVENLY.

Pears. I love PEARS more than my own life!

Asparagus. This is probably my very favorite veggie on the face of the planet. I especially love the tips.

A Heath Bar. Whenever I eat one of these decadent candy bars, I have to grab onto something heavy to ground me because I always feel like I'm going to have an out-of-body experience.

Instructions for eating a Heath Bar:
1. Break off a piece of the bar and place it on your tongue. Then close your eyes.
2. Don't chew, allow the chocolate to slowly melt off the toffee center.
3. Once completely melted, begin to chew the toffee center, but slowly...savoring every single morsel.
I guarantee if you eat a Heath Bar like this you'll hear angels singing, and voice quietly saying, "Come to the light, Carol Anne...come to the light."

A stormy sky. I took this photo a year and a half ago, while I was visiting my mother and brother in Florida. We were having dinner at a restaurant as this storm rolled in.

Train travel. My favorite way to travel!

The clock on City Hall in Philadelphia. I love that I can look out my apartment window at anytime, day or night, and see what time it is. And yes, this clock even GONGS every hour on the hour. I adore that sound.

White cherry blossoms.

The moon. Especially a daytime moon.

Yes, these are a few of my favorite things.

Oh...and I just couldn't resist...

Happy Monday, peeps!

  1. The hills are alive ... oh look, you've got me singing now.

Now let me go through one or two of your favourites, starting with the turkey wrap. My question is: how do you get your mouth round it and how much goes in at one bite... grins. Next, I love pears but they don't love me. And I was with you ALL THE WAY with the Heath Bar... right now I'm imagining that wonderful sensation of chocolate melting in the mouth and ooooooooh the toffee..... ooooooh. There are no words to express my rapture.

    THANK YOU.

    Happy Monday to you xx

  2. Have you tried roasting asparagus with a little balsamic vinegar and olive oil and a sprinkling of feta or other cheese? It's delicious! And pears, yes! They are such sensitive things, though - easily bruised.

I absolutely love watching a storm brew and also listening to the rain at night. And does't it feel magical when you can see the moon out during the day?

I'm glad you decided to give in to your impulse to post yourself as Maria. :-)

Hey, Ron, this is so cool! The turkey wrap looks delicious and I've only recently started eating asparagus. Can't say I love it, but we are good friends.

Awesome clock tower photo and it's great that you can see it from your apartment. I find those gongs to be very soothing

And I love eating pears and riding trains--preferably at the same time!

Thanks for unleashing your inner Julie Andrews, buddy! Now go grab hold of a street light and have yourself a Heath bar. You've earned it!

    Have a great week, buddy!

  5. Oh Ron, your instructions for eating a Heath Bar are hilarious! I don't eat much candy, but a Heath Bar is one candy I will. You're right, they're like an out of body experience. I also like Skor Bars, but Heath's are better. Peppermint Patties are also delicious.

And it's so funny you mentioned asparagus because last night my mother served them with her Easter dinner. Love them too!

Beautiful photograph of the stormy sky and white cherry blossoms.

Loved that final shot of you as Julie! Thank you for making my laugh this morning, Ron.

    Have a wonderful week x

  6. Gooood morning Valerie!

" starting with the turkey wrap. My question is: how do you get your mouth round it and how much goes in at one bite... grins."

HAHAHAHAHA! The best way to eat a wrap is in small bites. And I have to always remind myself that because I'm one of those people who normally takes BIG bites when I eat, because I'm always hungry and eat like a PIG!!!!

"And I was with you ALL THE WAY with the Heath Bar... right now I'm imagining that wonderful sensation of chocolate melting in the mouth and ooooooooh the toffee..... ooooooh. There are no words to express my rapture."

Aren't Heath Bars AMAZING? And I can only allow myself to eat them occasionally because they are so addictive.

Much thanks for stopping by, dear lady. Have a lovely week!

    X to you and Joe!

No I haven't, but OMG...I'm going to try that because it sounds out of this world! I adore feta cheese!!!

"And pears, yes! They are such sensitive things, though - easily bruised."

Yes, they do bruise easily, you're right. And I find that I have to eat them quickly or they go bad.

"I absolutely love watching a storm brew and also listening to the rain at night. And does't it feel magical when you can see the moon out during the day?"

Yes to BOTH of those! Florida is notorious for stormy skies, especially during the summer months. Love them!

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a SUPER week!

Amen! And it's ironic you said that because I almost mentioned that my favorite pears are Barletts!!!

  9. Hey there Rob!

    "The turkey wrap looks delicious."

OMG...it was! I got that last month while I was in Chestnut Hill. I purchased it from the Farmer's Market.

" I've only recently started eating asparagus. Can't say I love it, but we are good friends."

My favorite part of asparagus are the tips because they seem to be more tender and flavorful.

"Thanks for unleashing your inner Julie Andrews, buddy! Now go grab hold of a street light and have yourself a Heath bar. You've earned it!"

" I also like Skor Bars, but Heath's are better."

I soooooo agree with you on that! I will eat a Skor Bar if I can't find a Heath. But Heath's are the BEST!

"And it's so funny you mentioned asparagus because last night my mother served them with her Easter dinner. Love them too!"

Oh, how funny is that! I prefer my asparagus fresh, but sometimes I will buy a can of asparagus tips and toss them on a salad. Delicious!

ROFLMAO! Dude, you are so fricking funny! I've never eaten a Heath Bar but now you've got me curious.

My two favorite vegetables are asparagus and snow peas. I can eat snow peas raw or steamed.

Great photos. That stormy sky is beautiful. Love the one of the clock too. The rose shot is interesting, how did you do that?

    ReplyDelete
  12. " I've never eaten a Heath Bar but now you've got me curious."

OMG Matt...you've gotta try a Heath Bar because they are out of this world. The combination of the milk chocolate and toffee center are to DIE for. And the best way to eat them is SLOWLY.

"and snow peas. I can eat snow peas raw or steamed."

Ditto! I like snow peas too. Sometimes I'll get a bag and just eat them raw; dipping them into salad dressing.

"The rose shot is interesting, how did you do that?"

What I did was take a photograph that I had of some roses from a flower show, and then I overlaid it with an image of water drops. I did that over at PicMonkey. They have some really cool effects.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a most excellent week!

  13. Ron, you make a cute Julie Andrews, heehee!
I'm surprised you featured a Heath Bar, when I KNOW you love York Peppermint Patties!!
I have to agree about the cheery blossoms -- they're spectacular -- and the moon. There's nothing quite like our nearest space object, is there?!
I love train travel, too. There's something sooo relaxing about taking one's time arriving at a destination -- AND not having to do the driving or risk getting a pat-down at the airports!
Happy Monday -- might a turkey wrap be on your lunch menu??

"I'm surprised you featured a Heath Bar, when I KNOW you love York Peppermint Patties!!"

You are so right about that...I LOVE Peppermint Patties too! Heath Bars are my second favorite candy in whole wide world.

"I love train travel, too. There's something sooo relaxing about taking one's time arriving at a destination -- AND not having to do the driving or risk getting a pat-down at the airports!"

Yes, that's it! Riding a train to me is sooooo relaxing. And not only the casualness of taking your time and enjoying the destination, but also the movement of a train for me is so soothing.

Happy Monday to you, dear lady. Have a super week and thanks for stopping by!

  17. I can relate to a lot of these, but especially the stormy sky. There's a reason I live where I do, after all: there's an awful lot of gray, and that suits me just fine!

I also love traveling by train. I still remember with great fondness an Amtrak trip I took when I was about 8 years old. There's something romantic about the clickety-clack of the rails.

    Have a great week, Ron!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ron, you make a smashing Maria Trapp! LoL

And I'm with you on the Heath candy bars, but I have to try your eating instructions because I just bite off a piece and chew. I've also eaten Skor Bars, which I think are made by the same company, Hershery. But Heath's are by far the best!

Love the photograph of the clock on City Hall and the one of the daytime moon. I remember one summer when I went to Miami for a vacation and experienced one of those tropical storms and the sky looked just like the one you pictured here. One thing I noticed about Florida storms is that they come in quickly, but exit quickly. They don't seem to last long.

You never fail to entertain or thought-provoke with your posts, Ron.

I hear ya, Mark, because I am the exact same way. Most people get depressed when there's a couple days of gray and stormy skies. Me? I LOVE them!

"There's something romantic about the clickety-clack of the rails."

Yes, you're right, they are made by the same company, Hershey, which is here in PA!!! And I agree, Heath's are by far the best!

"I remember one summer when I went to Miami for a vacation and experienced one of those tropical storms and the sky looked just like the one you pictured here. One thing I noticed about Florida storms is that they come in quickly, but exit quickly. They don't seem to last long."

You are spot on about that. And that's one of things I had get used to when I first moved to Florida. Their storms come fast and furious, but they don't last long. They're very different from the storms here on the east coast because here, they usually last a few days, or even a week.

But I love rain, so it really doesn't bother me at all.

  22. Hey there Dale!

I had that photo of the palm tree on my laptop computer for the past year and a half and totally forgot it was even there. Then over the weekend, I was cleaning out pics and documents and spotted it. I took that shot on the last night I was in Florida.

"else except pears and candy bars. Too sweet for me."

Yeah, definitely the candy bar is SWEET! But OMG...I have such a sweet tooth it's unbelievable. Especially anything with chocolate.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a super week!

  24. Hey there David!

Thanks, buddy :) I took that shot of the palm tree over a YEAR ago and totally forgot that I had it on my laptop computer. It brought back a lot of bittersweet memories for me because on that particular visit to Florida, was the last time I saw my mother. She was ill, and passed away 3 months later.

"I can't ever remember tasting a Heath bar..."

  27. Jeezy Creezy...where to start? This was an amazing post! You hooked me in early and didn't let go. Kudos for that! And it's funny, but I eat Heath bars the exact same way. Any other way and it just feels...weird. And there's a mall near here that had a specialty fruit booth that sells...yeah, you guessed it...fruit. But man, that fruit is perfectly ripe, and there's nothing like a perfectly ripe pear. You got my mouth watering just thinking about it.

And yet again, you've blown me away with your photos! I wish I had half the talent you do with taking pictures. I'm infinitely jealous. Heh....

I have never tasted a Heath bar but now I want one. thank you for the instructions!!! Yes, there IS a right way to eat certain foods. Skorr Bars are like that too, must allow it to melt, not to be chewed and crunched!!!

A Health Bar is very similar to a Skor Bar (and they're even made my the same company - Hershey) however, a Health tops!

Every year he would send us crates of fruit, fresh from the trees - 1 crate of pears because they were my favorite, 1 crate of peaches because they were my sisters favorite & 1 crate of mixed - cherries, walnuts, apricots, etc. I loved when the railroad would call to say our crates were ready to be picked up every year!

  39. And now that song will stay stuck, tyvm. That's okay, at least it's the first one and not the other. You look stunning in that dress btw. :-)

Oh my gosh, brilliant photos you put on this one. Gotta love the moon' the clock, the blossoms and the rails. I love trains (you mighta noticed...LOL). And I adore the clock. What a brilliant photo. And what a deal breaker if you couldn't take the bell tolling. I'd love it!! Other people, notsomuch probably.

You've got a few of my favorites...asparagus, 'specially freshly stolen from the neighbors HUGE patch. It's up and I'm keeping my eye on it. Fresh, steamed with some butter! Oh, but I'm gonna haffta try the balsamic vinegar idea.
And stormy weather...gosh, we get some awesome clouds and fronts that work their way across the plains. It makes for some fantastic views. Totally amazing, from water spouts to tornados (as long as they're afar and in open farmland!), to fantastic displays of lightening and sundogs. It's just spectacular anyway you look at it. Oh, and tonight there's a meteor shower...phenomenal star gazing over here, that's for sure!
Makes me happy just thinking about all the 'stuff' that brings me joy, yaknow?

" But let me ask you something.... I always get a Skor bar when I am in a toffee/chocolate mood. Is there a difference between Heath and Skor?"

To me the toffee center in a Heath bar tastes better, more butterier and more like authentic toffee. Also, the toffee center is thicker than in a Skor bar. But yes, I think you should do a taste test and see what you think. A lot of people prefer a Skor over a Heath, so maybe you will too. I WILL sometimes get a Skor bar if I can't find a Heath and do enjoy it.

Your love of pears reminded me of a camping trip a buddy and I took. On the drive there we passed by a Pear orchard. We stopped and nabbed a couple for each of us. (By nabbing, I mean we STOLE them) It was still pretty early in the morning and nice and cool outside. The pears were perfectly ripe, but still crisp from the cool morning. I'll never forget how great it smelled in the orchard, and how wonderful those pilfered pears tasted!

I so hear ya, Lisa! And it's funny because I was on vacation in Florida when that tropical storm hit. And the scary part about it was that I had to FLY in it the next morning.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend!

  57. HA HAHHAHAHAHAHAAAA HA AHHAHAAA!!!! The last picture cracked me up!!!!! Ron + Maria = Ron-Ee-AH!

So the Heath bar... yes they are wonderful. But let me ask you something.... I always get a Skor bar when I am in a toffee/chocolate mood. Is there a difference between Heath and Skor? Maybe I will have to buy EACH and TASTE TEST... it's a dirty job but somebody has to do it!

Oh oh and I love your favorite things, btw.... I STILL use the face oil you recommended a year or so ago!!!

  58. Ron, Ron, Ron you still crack me up. You my friend are one of my favorite things. It has been quite awhile since we chatted. A lot has happened. I have lost my job. I walk around with a catherter now my bladder may be shot. I need to have a hip and knee replaced. But I am loving life and smelling the flowers. I have tempted to go back into blogging and perhaps write an ebook. I was looking for some motivation to move off my fat ass. I looked over your stuff and once again I feel as if I can do what I want to do. Ron, thank you for your healing energy. I want to talk to you again.
