My Encounter With Being An Irishman

As you know from previous posts, one of the great perks about my job is that I'm forever receiving samples of things like: makeup, skincare, and fragrances. I give all the makeup to my female friends, but most of the skincare and fragrance I keep for myself because the whole reason I receive these samples is to test them out so that I can share my feedback with our customers.

Last Saturday night I decided to try a skincare sample I recently received, which was a facial mask from one of the lines that our store sells. It's called, Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask. And since I'd been hearing such positive things about it, I was anxious to give it go and see the results.

I didn't receive a complete jar like the one in the picture below. I only had a small packette sample, which was just enough for one application. However, I wanted to show you what the actual product looked like, so here it is...

After washing my face, I followed the directions by applying an even coat of the mask and allowed it to dry for 10 minutes.

Here are some photographs of me wearing the mask. And as you will see from the expressions on my face, I looked a little strange because I began to have visions of Irish moors and could hear shillelaghs flutes playing in the background. I found myself with the sudden urge for Irish stew, bacon and cabbage, cottage pie and soda bread. I also craved a Guinness beer (and I don't even drink beer).

I felt as if I we're being transformed into an Irishman, and all because of the Irish moor mud!

Faith and begorrah, look...

I have to say though, my skin looked great after I removed the mask. It felt smoother, softer and more refined.

However, I had a bizarre dream that night. I dreamt that I was the Lucky Charms cereal leprechaun walking through an Irish moor, while juggling marshmallow hearts, moons, stars, clovers and diamonds over my head...

And all I kept repeating over and over again was, "Frosted Lucky Charms...they're magically delicious!"

Have a LUCKY and CHARMING Monday, y'all!

  1. OMG! Ron! This is hilarious!!! I love checking out all of the different masks on the market today!! I have to be careful though because I am allergic to so many different things...I am a freak about reading labels! Mostly I stick to Clinique, Estee Lauder and Origins. I have ventured into Tarte and a couple of the others for mascara...it was not a particularly good experience. There are just so many ingredients and I end up needing to claw my eyes out and get the stuff OFF my face!! I love your mask FACES!! I have never heard of that particular product, but will have to check it out!! You ROCK as an Irishman my friend!! Happy Monday! xo Jeanne

  2. Ok, to be honest, I would not put that stuff on my face for fear it would leave a stain on my skin! And how did it smell??? You are too funny, Ron!

  3. 'Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask' - even the name made me laugh. Considering Ireland is just across the water from me I wonder why I have never heard of it. Not that I would try it if I had, not with my skin!

Your pictures are fabulous, every one made me smile. Now see here, young man, don't you get playing around with those shillelaghs, they're lethal weapons in the wrong hands.... haha. I owned one once... it would have knocked a man down with one swipe.

    Happy Monday x

  4. LOL. Ron, the photographs of you with the mask are hysterical! And one of you as Lucky Charm is so cute. You make an adorable leprechaun! As you already know, I'm a beauty product junkie but have not heard about this mask yet I've seen the line in Sephora. Most of the skincare products I use are Dermalogica and I love them. Have you heard it? It seems to work well with my skin. For makeup, I use a little bit from several different lines.

FUN post, Ron. Have a wonderful week! x

  5. Apparently "black" is the new IN color for skin care products. I ordered a detoxifying cleanser from Boscia, it's black and it gets hot when you add water! It came with a sample of a black mud mask. They have a whole line of black skin/face stuff. It's okay but I like Mario's products better.

You wear the mask well, bro!

  6. HILARIOUS, Ron! You are so clever! What a great job you must have to receive samples of things for free. I'm curious, have you ever tried products that you didn't like and shared it with your customers? Loved the Lucky Charms cereal commercial. It reminded me of when I was a kid because that cereal was very popular back then. But I could never eat it now because it's too sweet.

Saints preserve us! It's O'Ronnie, the mud face leprechaun out to steal our lucky charms!

Great post, buddy! I'm glad to see you had so much fun with the Irish Moor Mask. Just be careful you don't leave the house with that stuff on because people might take it the wrong way. And then you'll really need the luck of the Irish!

Have a great week, Ron, and don't squeeze your bagpipes too hard!

Yes, I think if you find certain lines that work for you, you should stick with them because not everyone can use everything; especially things for the eyes, like mascara. I'm not overly-sensitive to most products, however, I can't use eye creams because no matter which one I try, they always break me out with little red bumps around my eyes.

And speaking of Origins, I used to manage an Origins store here in Philly. LOVE their products! And I also worked at an Estee Lauder counter when I was still living in Florida.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Happy Monday!

HAHAHAHAHAHA! I know, can you believe the color? And funny you mentioned "staining" because it didn't stain my skin, but it DID stain the wash cloth I used to wash it off. Yet, after washing the cloth in the washing machine, it did come off. And it actually smelled very nice - fresh and clean.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a fantastic week!

  11. Hola Denise!

You should have seen me in my bathroom trying to take pictures of myself with the mask on. I had that black mud all over the place - HA!

"Most of the skincare products I use are Dermalogica and I love them. Have you heard it?"

Yes, I have. In fact, we sell it my store. I haven't tried any of the products myself, but it's a very popular brand that many people RAVE about.

"For makeup, I use a little bit from several different lines."

A lot of women say the same thing. I honestly don't think there is any ONE makeup line that has it all.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a wonderful week!

You're right, black is the new IN color for skincare product because I've noticed several lines coming out with it. I think it's because of the combination of mud and charcoal.

"It's okay but I like Mario's products better."

I agree! I love my Mario products!

OMG...I get SO MANY sample of things to try that I have BAGS of them, many of which I haven't even tried yet.

" I'm curious, have you ever tried products that you didn't like and shared it with your customers?"

Great question! And yes, I have tried products that I didn't like and YES, I'm very honest with customers. We sell so many different lines in my store, so if something didn't work for me, I can always direct them to another line that I did like.

" It reminded me of when I was a kid because that cereal was very popular back then. But I could never eat it now because it's too sweet."

HA! Me too! Even back then, Lucky Charms was not one of my favorite cereals because I don't like marshmallow.

  15. Ron, you crack me up!! I so appreciate your reviews of new products because, with my uber-sensitive skin, there's very little I can do in the way of experimenting unless I WANT to break out in hives!!

Your post really made me homesick for the Motherland, my dear! All that talk about leprechauns, Lucky Charms, cabbage, moors, and pipes appeals to me on a deep level (and yes, I was one of those kids who LOVED Lucky Charms!)

I'd have been afraid to try something that color, for fear it would adhere permanently (not a particularly good look with my blonde hair, ha!). You make a darling leprechaun, though!

    Happy Monday to ye, O'Ronnie!!

"with my uber-sensitive skin, there's very little I can do in the way of experimenting unless I WANT to break out in hives!!"

It amazes me sometimes how many different products I've tried and haven't had any bad reactions, other than eye creams. No matter what eye cream I've used, they always break me out around my eyes.

"Your post really made me homesick for the Motherland, my dear! All that talk about leprechauns, Lucky Charms, cabbage, moors, and pipes appeals to me on a deep level (and yes, I was one of those kids who LOVED Lucky Charms!)"

Ireland is a place I would like to visit one day because from all the pictures I've seen, it's looks stunning! I love how LUSH and GREEN it is.

"I'd have been afraid to try something that color, for fear it would adhere permanently."

It didn't stain my skin or hair, however, it did stain the wash cloth that I used to wash it off. Yet, it did all come off after washing it in my laundry.

I was mowing my lawn one day many years ago, and my neighbor came over with a tall glass of freshly brewed dark beer. "Looks like you could use a cold one!" he said. "You know me well," I replied. Only he DIDN'T because I despise beer, and this one looked like a Guinness on steroids. Still, it was a nice gesture and I wanted to be polite, so I downed the whole thing.

    I've been scarred ever since...

Nice mud mask. Perks of the job, indeed! I could probably get a discounted hearing aid if I asked my boss really nicely.

HAHAHAHAHA! Mark, I don't like beer either. But what's weird is that I like the smell of beer, yet I can't stand the taste! I think I've only had ONE beer in my entire life. And it was on tap at the Blarney Stone in Manhattan. In 1975.

" How did you get those pictures of yourself, they're priceless!"

I took those in my bathroom, standing in front of a bath towel. I must have taken about 15 pictures, but these are the only ones that came out clear because I was holding the camera in my hands and couldn't even see exactly where I was pointing it.

"I have a friend who would love your job because she's really into cosmetics and stuff. Whenever we go shopping, she always stops by the cosmetic counters and tries things on and then ends up buying them."

Tell your friend that she should apply for a job working behind the counter because she will most likely get samples of things to try for FREE.

The great thing about this mask is that it doesn't get hard as it's drying. In fact, my skin actually felt more hydrated after using it. But I have used certain masks that were so tight and drying, that my skin felt like it was going to crack off my face.
