Out of all five elements, water is my favorite.

It’s ironic about the element of water though, because it can be adaptable, pliable and gentle. But in an overabundance, it can also be very aggressive; wielding great power when it floods and overwhelms the earth.

Water to drink:

For as long as I can remember, water has been my favorite thing to drink. Yes, I adore a good glass of red wine and a cup of dark roasted coffee, but other than that, I don’t drink anything else. Okay, I lie, maybe some Arizona Iced Green Tea occasionally.

Here are some other things I love about water:

  • I love to take baths and showers because water seems to both calm and refresh me. Whenever I get sick or feel out-of-sorts, taking a bath or shower makes me feel so much better.
  • I love rain. And enjoy walking in it on a warm day.
  • I love to sit on a beach and look at the ocean as it moves.
  • I love to sit by a lake or river. I find gazing at water therapeutic and healing.
  • I love to dive into a swimming pool of cool water on a hot, summer day.
  • And lastly, I find water very sensuous. And if you don't believe me, try taking a hot-soapy bath or shower, or sitting in a bubbling Jacuzzi with someone you like, and you'll know what I mean.

*wink*

So to honor the element of water, I would like to share several photographs today.

Please enjoy some agua...

These shots were taken in my bathroom.

I had off yesterday and oddly enough it rained. So I took my umbrella and camera, and went walking.

Peeking from under my umbrella.

Wet city streets.

A manhole cover.

Water drops.

A shot of my wet umbrella while sitting in Starbucks, enjoying a cup of dark roasted coffee.

Oh, and speaking of coffee, I found this quote online and thought it was brilliant!

"Water is the most important element in life...
because without it you can't make coffee."

-Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and the City)

Have a waterful weekend everyone!

  1. Interesting pictures today, Ron. Hmm, how is it that you can take a picture of a drain and it looks magnificent?

I drink a lot of water and I've always believed that it can be healing as well as soothing. Certainly it heals the soul on those off days.

There were a lot of old wives tales when I was a girl, one which maintained that washing hair during the menstrual cycle was dangerous enough to kill. What a load of rubbish the old folk believed in.

Make sure your week ends on a high x

  2. Great photos, Ron. My fave is the city street one. Our town has had a few major floods over the past 20 years. One can't help but be amazed at what water can do. When you see roads that have buckled near bridges and enormous trees uprooted, you realize its strength.

    Have a super weekend!

  3. Hey, Ron, this post is all wet--and I love it!

Water is so important in our lives. It's obviously good for our health--I don't drink enough of it--and it's also good for our minds. It's cleansing, always moving, always changing--such a fabulous element!

I love bearing near water. I'm fortunate enough to be living near the Narrows in Brooklyn and I like to imagine that I can always hop aboard a freighter and take off for the South China Seas if I get really fed up. (If I go I'll send you a postcard!)

And that Lao Tzu quote is so important because water teaches us some valuable lessons.

Thanks so much for the great post and excellent photos, buddy! Have a tremendous holiday weekend!

  4. Ron, you made me laugh out loud with the hot soapy bath or shower, or sitting in a jacuzzi with someone you like. But you're right, water is very sensuous! And you must have loved living in Florida because it rains here a lot, especially in the summer. It's interesting because I drink mostly water too. Although I love my coffee in the morning (a must-have) and apple juice in the afternoon. I enjoy taking baths and showers as well. I take two a day. I can't go to sleep at night without a bath or shower, and I have to do the same in the morning before work. It wakes me up.

Beautiful photographs! I love the ones in your bathroom and the city streets. And that quote from Carrie Bradshaw is brilliant. I was a big fan of SAT. I'm curious to take that questionnaire.

Have a wonderful weekend, Ron x

  5. Ron, how do you think of the different topics you post about? They're always either funny or informative and interesting. " Okay, I lie, maybe some Arizona Iced Green Tea occasionally." I drink that brand of iced tea too. It's inexpensive and great tasting tea. I know I should drink more water because it's important to keep your body hydrated and flush out the toxins, but I'm not very good about doing that. I've got to start drinking more water! Funny you mentioned taking baths and showers because I feel the same way. I like to take baths in the winter and showers in the summer.

Wonderful photos! Love the one of drain. You must have enjoyed yesterday's rain. Can you believe how cool it got?

    Have a great weekend, Ron!

  6. Good morning Valerie!

Thank you :) I took that picture of the drain one evening while I was trying out the manual settings on my new camera.

"I drink a lot of water and I've always believed that it can be healing as well as soothing. Certainly it heals the soul on those off days."

I agree! And lately, because it's been a bit warmer, I find my self drinking lots of water. Even when I kid, I preferred water over things like soft drinks.

"There were a lot of old wives tales when I was a girl, one which maintained that washing hair during the menstrual cycle was dangerous enough to kill. What a load of rubbish the old folk believed in."

Wow, I've never heard that wives tale before but it does sound like a load of rubbish. How can washing your hair during the menstrual cycle be dangerous? Where do they come up with these things?!

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have a lovely weekend!

Wow! Yes, water can be very damaging when in excess. Look at what it did to NY during that hurricane several years ago. Such destruction.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, my friend. Have a SUPER weekend!

Yes! And I love what you said about water always moving and always changing because it's true! It's a very powerful element.

" I'm fortunate enough to be living near the Narrows in Brooklyn and I like to imagine that I can always hop aboard a freighter and take off for the South China Seas if I get really fed up. (If I go I'll send you a postcard!)"

HA! Yes, I know exactly the location you're referring to in NY. And when you think about it, NY is really an island, surrounded by water!

"And that Lao Tzu quote is so important because water teaches us some valuable lessons."

    Isn't it a faaaaabulous quote?

  9. Hola Denise!

"But you're right, water is very sensuous!"

    Isn't it?

"But you're right, water is very sensuous! And you must have loved living in Florida because it rains here a lot, especially in the summer."

Yes, in fact, it was from my time living in Florida did I really start loving rain. And it's not like the rainfall we have here. In Florida it rains really hard for like an hour and then the sun comes out. And yes, summer is rains practically every single day.

" I enjoy taking baths and showers as well. I take two a day. I can't go to sleep at night without a bath or shower, and I have to do the same in the morning before work. It wakes me up."

Me too! I'm a two-a-day shower person. I absolutely have to take one in the morning to wake me up and one in the evenings to relax me. Plus, I can't get into bed at night without feeling cleaned!

"And that quote from Carrie Bradshaw is brilliant. I was a big fan of SAT."

I was a HUGE fan of SAT! Isn't that quote fabulous?

  10. Hey there Elaine!

I don't know how I think of the topics I post. They sort of just come to me without really thinking about them.

"I drink that brand of iced tea too. It's inexpensive and great tasting tea."

Yes! I only drink the Iced Green Tea with honey and ginseng. LOVE it! And you're right, it tastes great and it's very inexpensive. I sometimes find the cans at Walgreens 2 for.99! What a deal!

" You must have enjoyed yesterday's rain. Can you believe how cool it got?"

Loved it! And I spent most of the afternoon outside walking in it. Yes, I love how it made the temperature drop because it's been getting very humid.

Such an interesting topic. And I really like the Lao Tzu quote. I drink a lot of water myself. I drink bottled spring water and have a Brita water filter on my kitchen sink. It really makes a difference in how water tastes.

"I love to sit on a beach and look at the ocean as it moves." The best!

Beautiful photos. My faves are the ones of the city streets and bathroom drain. Awesome shots! And the coffee cup is awesome too. I love coffee.

Have a great holiday weekend, dude!

"I drink a lot of water myself. I drink bottled spring water and have a Brita water filter on my kitchen sink. It really makes a difference in how water tastes."

Yup, I sooooooooo agree! l don't have a Brita water filter on my sink but I do have a Brita water container that I filter my tap water through and then place it in my fridge. And you're right, it makes a HUGE difference in how water tastes.

" And the coffee cup is awesome too. I love coffee."

Thank you :) I love coffee as well. I took that shot of a coffee mug I use at home. It's so big it almost looks like a BOWL!

  13. I love this, Ron. Thank you! Water was highest on my list, too, which I found interesting because I'm a Virgo and that's an earth sign. Who knew??

Anyway, your photos are lovely. My late dad always loved a good rain because it washed away the "crud" of the day and made things smell fresh and new again. I'm very much like that, but day after day of rain and dreariness depresses me.

I, too, love being BY the water, though I draw the line at being IN it!! My folks had to force me to take swimming lessons, ha! To this day, I'm not particularly fond of being wet -- showers are the exception, of course, and even the most rotten of days somehow turns around when I wash my hair -- wonder why that is??

Happy holiday weekend to you, dear friend -- don't work too hard!

  14. I've always loved that quote! Fabulous water shots! Nothing like listening to the ocean roar or the tinkling of a creek.

  15. What great photos Ron and such a good topic too! I LOVE drinking GOOD quality water, it's my fav beverage actually. So many people seem to live on pop and coffee now, so unhealthy. But I always go back to water. And other than that, just good organic decaf, the occasional tea, NO pop, sparkling water...but water always comes first. Oh, I forgot, red wine and a beer now and then!!! LOL

I LOVED your rain photos, what a treat it is to see your latest pics, You are so talented. Your photos have a life of their own, they have depth and personality beyond just being technically good. Well done and keep them coming.

Now I'm off to take that questionnaire!! Have a super, duper weekend!!! G :-)

  17. I like water, too. Mainly because it brings you food when you are hungry.

    Oops...that would be a waIter.

Well, umm, water is good, too. There's lots of it out in this here part of the country, in case you hadn't heard. Great photos, as always! Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend, Ron.

  18. Suzi, can you believe that up until a few days ago (when I found it online), I had never heard of that quote? And yes, what a great quote it is!

  19. Hello there Geraldine!

" I LOVE drinking GOOD quality water, it's my fav beverage actually."

Mine too. I use a filter (Brita) for the water I drink at home and try to purchase good quality spring water when I purchase it at the store. And you can TASTE the difference!

    " NO pop..."

Me neither. Other than an "occasional" Coke whenever I eat a hamburger because it tastes so good together. I don't really care for carbonated drinks because they bother my stomach. I've never really been into soft drinks.

"Oh, I forgot, red wine and a beer now and then!!! LOL"

Oh yeah....love me some red wine :) Beer, for some reason, I've never acquired a taste, although I do like the smell of it.

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the photos. I am so enjoying this new camera :)

  22. Hellooooo there Debbie!

"Water was highest on my list, too, which I found interesting because I'm a Virgo and that's an earth sign. Who knew??"

You were water too?? How cool is that! I'm an air sign (Libra), with Virgo as my rising sign, so I have different elements in my astrological chart. I also have a lot of fire in my chart, which is ironic, because when I took the questionnaire, FIRE was the second highest!

"My late dad always loved a good rain because it washed away the "crud" of the day and made things smell fresh and new again. I'm very much like that, but day after day of rain and dreariness depresses me."

My late mother also loved a good rain. But agree with you, I wouldn't want it constantly.

"To this day, I'm not particularly fond of being wet -- showers are the exception, of course, and even the most rotten of days somehow turns around when I wash my hair -- wonder why that is??"

I had a friend in Florida who felt the same way as you when it came to being wet. She was NOT fond of it. However, one night last week while I was walking home from work it began to rain. I didn't have my umbrella, so I walked all the way home (slowly) and was DRENCHED by the time I got to my apartment. OMG...I loved it - HA!

  23. Great photos and such an interesting topic, Ron! As I was reading your likes of water, I found them all to be the same as mine. All my life, I've always been attracted to water. Even when I was a kid, my mother said that I couldn't wait to learn how to swim. She used to call me her "little fish boy" because I was the only one of her children who couldn't wait to take a bath. She also said I would cry when she took me out of the tub LOL!

And I have to agree (and chuckled) with your comment about water being sensuous. I love the feel of water on my skin and hair. That's why I don't mind getting caught in the rain.I find it cleansing.

Love that final photograph of the coffee mug. And what a brilliant quote!

OMG...that is SO CUTE!!!! I liked taking baths as a kid too. In fact, my brother and I would sometimes take baths together and wash each other's hair and pretend that we were hairstylist - HA!

" I love the feel of water on my skin and hair. That's why I don't mind getting caught in the rain.I find it cleansing."

Me too! The other night, while walking home from work, I got caught in the rain without my umbrella and loved it! Yup, I felt cleansed!

  31. Such a soothing, lovely post, Ron. Being a Pisces, like you Ron, adore water. Believe it or not, when there's an oil spill, or I'm near a gas station for whatever reason, as I don't drive, I become ill at the smell of gasoline, and literally feel like a spill is an affront. It may sound weird, but when you consider how much of our bodies are made of water, and how necessary it is for our survival, I revere water.
Your photos are exquisite, Ron! I bet you were doing the "stomp" in some of the water puddles during your travels that day too! ;))

No, I don't think that's weird at all because it TOTALLY makes sense to me. Also, being a Pisces, you're also very sensitive and intuitive to what's going on around you. I'm a Libra, but I'm the same way.

  33. Oh thats funny - I have a short list of liquids I drink the vast majority of the time - water, wine, beer, coffee and hot tea. Very occasionally a cocktail or whiskey, but that's unusual. Never things like sodas or juices.

I'm with you on the joys of water. I find bodies of water and rain healing and soothing. And it doesn't matter if it's a waterfall, creek, ocean or whatever. Or if it's a light rain or raging storm. Gorgeous photos!

  34. " Very occasionally a cocktail or whiskey,but that's unusual. "

Can you believe that I have never tried a cocktail or whiskey? And it's funny because both my parents loved them. In fact, we had a full bar in our home. One of these days I would like to try a martini because I love the presentation - the glass, the olive, and the clear liquor.

  37. I know what you mean about water Ron! I first came to realize the importance of water for me years back when I was living with a man & he had a cottage at a beach. For his vacation time, he would spend the entire time at the cottage. There were times when I could not arrange my vacation time to coincide with his so I would commute from the cottage daily. I could feel my shoulders tensing up as I got closer to the city & I could feel the tension leaving my body as I drove back at the end of the day. For me, there is nothing so calming as sitting & watching a beautiful turquoise ocean & listen to the gentle waves lap the shore!
