Being a lover of wine, specifically RED wine, I laughed when I spotted this quote online by one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, Benjamin Franklin.

Apparently. he loved wine too...

Over the past few months I've tried several different wines. If you're anything like me, you have certain go to wines that become your staples, but you also enjoy branching out and experimenting at times.

Today, I would like to share two wines that were new to me. The first was given to me by a coworker, the second I bought myself because I found the label intriguing.

So, without further ado, let's greet and meet some wines...

Chloe Merlot

The wine:

This Merlot wine was given to me for Christmas from someone who, like myself, drinks only red wine and thought I would enjoy it.

And she was right...OMG, I LOVED it!

In fact after I finished the bottle, a few days later, I went out and bought two more bottles so that I could add this deeeelicious California red to my wine staple collection.

The taste:

If I could only use one word to describe this Merlot, it would be: orgasmic.

I kid you not.

This is a full-bodied, dry wine with a rich burgundy color, soft tannins and silky smooth acidity. Flavors of blackberries, black cherry and mint are followed by notes of vanilla, dark chocolate and a touch of oak. This sensuously warm wine is well-balanced with sophisticated intensity and a smooth finish that lingers on the tongue.

Truthfully, this is the best Merlot I have ever tasted.

Alcohol 13.9 %

Price range: $12.99 - $14.99

*note: Their website is one of the most beautifully designed websites I have ever seen. It's stunning!

Martin Codax Ergo Rojo Red Blend

The wine:

This was one of those situations when the wine bottle label caught my attention; causing me to pick it up and read. I had never tried a Spanish wine before, so I decided to take a chance. And boy am I glad I did because this wine is FAB-U-LOUS! In fact, it's so fabulous that I bought it at least six times already and have recommended it to every single person I come in contact with who likes red wine. This past Christmas I even gave it as gifts. One of the people I gave it to, who is as obsessed with red wine as I am, said that even before she took a sip from the glass she could tell from the aroma that it was a stellar wine.

The taste:

If I could only use one word to described this wine, it would be: decadent.

This intense ruby red blend is a contemporary expression of classic Spanish varieties. Crafted from some of the finest grapes in the Rioja DOC, Ergo brings together a vibrant crescendo of red fruit aromas, leather and spice. Undertones of vanilla, cider, and toasted oak are framed by a juicy texture and a long, smooth finish.

Bellissima!

This wine comes from the Martin Codax Winery in Spain.

Alcohol 14.0 %

Price range: $9.99 - $12.99

Hope you enjoy these wines as much as I do.
Salute!

X

*I am open to trying new wines, so please feel free to recommend any red wines that have become your favorites. Thanks!

  1. Good morning, Ron. I am useless with wines. I used to drink white until the stomach complained so my friend recommended that I move to red. I'd already tried that in-between rubbish so took her recommendation. Don't ask what that was because I'm useless with names. As it happened I was ordered off all wine because it was upsetting my system. Now I feel there is no life left and I tell you ... tea is just not the same as a good red!

Hope you are fit and well and enjoying the new year. Have a nice day. Hugs from me and Charlie says Hi xx

  2. Stop! You had me at "orgasmic"!! I'm always looking for a few good wines, Ron, and if you know of one that will make me hit the jackpot, then please do pass the bottle!

Seriously, I respect and appreciate your opinion, so I'll be sure to try these. I'm more of a white wine guy, but I'm open to a good red--especially one that can get my mojo howling!

Take care, buddy, and save some wine for me!

  3. I do love good, dry red wines! I've not tried either of these, but I'll be on the lookout. Lately, I've been drinking some chiantis and tempranillos.

  4. What a timely post, Ron. Just yesterday I finished a bottle of red wine and thought, I need to buy more, but I don't know what to get because I have long preferred whites. But my tastes are changing (or diversifying) and I'm ready to branch out. Seeing as how I like both Merlots and orgasms, the Chloe Merlot it is then!

  5. Ron, I'm not a wine drinker, but I truly loved your post today! You make both of these reds sound delicious (and make me a bit sorry I can't join you in a glass or two!)

Isn't it wonderful when friends introduce us to something so captivating, and when we get brave enough to try something new just because it grabs our attention? And oh, wow, you're spot on about the Chloe website -- somebody did a fabulous job designing it!

If I ever can get past a stomach that protests when I drink alcohol, I want to give these two a try. In the meantime, well done, my friend -- sláinte!!

  6. Ron, I have not seen either of those two wines before, and I shop around for wines on a weekly basis! I'm going to have to search them out and give them a try! I had Dynamite North Coast (Sonoma) Red Blend a few weeks ago and really, really liked it, but that was at a wine bar, so not sure if it's widely available. Thanks for some new recommendations!

  7. Ron, I shared your same passion for red wine. I love it! Many years ago I used to drink white wine too, but found that my taste started to change because it became too sweet. My favorite reds are Cabs, Pinot Noir and Malbec I also enjoy various blends. Some of my favorite brands are Dark Horse, Menage a Trois and Mondavi.

Thanks so much for these recommendations, I really enjoy trying new wines!

  8. Hello there Valerie!

"I used to drink white until the stomach complained so my friend recommended that I move to red."

You know, it's funny you mentioned that about white wine because I used to drink white and stopped completely because it just did not agree with me - physically or mentally. I think it was the sugar in white wine because I have absolutely no negative reaction to red wine.

I've also heard from many people that, like you, they had to stop drinking wine altogether because it upset their system.

".. tea is just not the same as a good red!"

    You said it.

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear friend. Yes, I am enjoying the new year and hoping you are too. I have this coming weekend off, so I may be taking a trip into NYC for the day.

    X to you and Charlie!

  9. Hey there Bijoux!

Yup, I had never seen these two wines either, that is until someone gave me the Merlot and then spotted the Spanish red blend in a local wine store. Now I'm in LOVE with them!

Check them out because I think you (being a wine lover like me) would enjoy them.

"I had Dynamite North Coast (Sonoma) Red Blend a few weeks ago and really, really liked it, but that was at a wine bar, so not sure if it's widely available."

Thank you for the recommendation, I will definitely write that name down and see if they carry it in my local wine store.

Have an awesome weekend, my friend. And thank so much for stopping by!

  10. Hiya Candice!

" Many years ago I used to drink white wine too, but found that my taste started to change because it became too sweet."

OMG, me too! In fact, I actually stopped drinking wine for YEARS because white wine started to turn me off with its sweetness. However many years later, I decided to try red and feel in love with wine all over again!

I love cabs and pinot noir too! I've not tried a malbec but many people say they really like it, so I'm going to have to try it one day.

Isn't Menage a Trois the best wine?!?! I've tried MANY from that brand and have enjoyed them all. I've also tried Dark Horse (cab) and really loved it!

Thanks so much for stopping by and for your recommendations, I will try them soon!

  11. Helloooooooooooo Debbie!

It's funny because my mother was not a wine drinker as well, she much preferred a martini or a nice vodka tonic. She said that wine got her very tipsy and then tired. My dad was more of a wine drinker.

"Isn't it wonderful when friends introduce us to something so captivating, and when we get brave enough to try something new just because it grabs our attention? "

Yes, absolutely! I have discovered some of the best recommendations from friends who have introduced me to something new!

" And oh, wow, you're spot on about the Chloe website -- somebody did a fabulous job designing it!"

I knew you (being a web designer) would appreciated their website. Isn't it gorgeous? I love the simple black and white colors they used. I found it very chic and classy!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaaaaaaaabulous weekend!

  12. Hey there Rob!

"Stop! You had me at "orgasmic"!!"

HA! I couldn't help myself, that word seemed to fit my feeling of this wine to perfection....orgasmic! Truthfully though, it truly is the best Merlot I've ever had.

"I'm more of a white wine guy, but I'm open to a good red--especially one that can get my mojo howling!"

I understand, some people are more white wine drinkers. Both of these companies make white as well, do check them out.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Hope you're feeling well and healing fast. I keep sending you Reiki whenever I meditate, hope it's helping!

  13. I know you and are love the same thing in red wine - full-bodied and dry.

I think you would really enjoy both these wines.

"Lately, I've been drinking some chiantis and tempranillos."

OMG...I LOVE a good chianti as well. It goes so very well with Italian food!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaaaabulous weekend!

  14. "Hey there Mark!

"Just yesterday I finished a bottle of red wine and thought, I need to buy more, but I don't know what to get because I have long preferred whites."

Over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, I always enjoy stocking up on wines because the colder weather puts me in the mood to drink full-bodied red wines, because I find them warm and toasty.

I used to only drink white wine, but suddenly found my taste changing, so I switched to red and found them more appealing.

"Seeing as how I like both Merlots and orgasms, the Chloe Merlot it is then!"

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Well, if you like Merlots and orgasms, you've GOT try Chloe!!! Honestly though, it's the best tasting Merlot I've ever had.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaaaabulous weekend!

    X to you and Tara

  17. Gotta love Ben. :-) I'm always looking for good red wines. I have my "go-to" ones, but am getting a bit bored with them. I usually gravitate to Argentinian Malbacs, but will certainly look for these next time I'm wine shopping. Thanks for the tip! With all the health benefits of red wine and dark chocolate....one could live forever. :-)

  18. Hey there Pat!

I agree... there are certain foods (such as Italian) that red wine is the perfect match.

I used to enjoy white wine, but found that it began to make me feel sick. I think it may be because of the sugar content. I actually didn't drink wine at all for many years because I thought that perhaps wine was just not for me. However, after trying some red wine years later, I found that I enjoyed it and had no negative reaction.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend!

  19. Gotta love Ben. :-)

    I agree, Lisa!

Thanks so much for your Argentinian Malbec recommendation because I have been wanting to try a Malbec. I've also never tried Argentinian wine, so I curious to see how they taste!

" With all the health benefits of red wine and dark chocolate....one could live forever. :-)"

HAHAHAHAHA! I said it, my friend!

Have a fantastic weekend, and thanks for stopping by!

  20. My plan is to visit the Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center) and take pictures high above the city. I hear it's one of the best views of Manhattan because you see all of upper and lower Manhattan perfectly!

    Can't wait!

Love that quote! I do like Merlot and my favourite red wines come from South Africa. But it's been a long time since I last drank any red wine. Perhaps time to start again? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Fiona, isn't that quote faaaabulous? I found it online and laughed when I read it :)

I've never tried South African wines, but I will look for them in the wine store I shop. I love shopping for new wines!

Have a super weekend, my friend, and thanks so much for stopping by!

  23. Ron, thanks a lot for sharing these wine recommendations! Much like you, I only drink red wine because white is just too sweet, but my girlfriend drinks both red and white. Chardonnay is her favorite but she also likes Pinot Grigio. I personally like Cabs and dark, rich blends. Have you ever tried the brand Apothic? It's an awesome wine and very reasonably priced.

    Thanks for the recommendations, dude!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hiya Matt!

Me too! White is way too sweet for me. I like very dark, full-bodied, and dry reds. LOVE them!

I know many people who drink Chardonnay in the warmer summer months. Also Pinot Grigio.

"Have you ever tried the brand Apothic? It's an awesome wine and very reasonably priced."

OMG.. Apothic is one of my favorite red blend wine brand. And it's funny you mentioned that brand because I just recently purchased Apothic Dark and can't wait to try it tonight!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Hope you're having a faaaaaaabulous weekend!

  25. Ron it's ironic you posted about wine because I went shopping at ABC last to stock up on my wine collection. Like you I love red wine, in fact, that's the only wine I can drink. I've not seen either one of these wines before, but I will look for them the next time I'm shopping.

They both sound great, but I'm especially drawn to the Chloe Merlot. Sounds delicious and I love the bottle. Oh yeah, and the website is stunning!

Mt favorite two favorite brands are Apothic and Menage e Trois. Two brands that YOU turned me on to several years ago.

Thanks for sharing these recommendations, Ron. Hope you're having a wonderful week X

  26. Hola Denise!

OMG....ABC...I totally remember that liquor store when I lived in Florida!! GREAT store! But I also used to purchase wine at Publix, they have such a good selection of wines!

Isn't the website faaaaaaabulous? I love the colors. Simple and clean.

Yup, many years ago I posted about those two wine brands. They're two of my favorites as well. They are my go-to brands!

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Hope you're having a wonderful week too!
