Post updates by email:

I thought I'd give you an update on the dental work I posted about back in early July.

After a series of appointments, which took a little over four months, I'm happy to say that everything has been completed and I am extremely happy with the results.

And so much so, I went on Google and gave my dentist a RAVE review which he truly deserved. I've only had one other dentist in my lifetime I felt the way I do about my current dentist. I trust him completely and believe that beyond being an outstanding "technical" dentist, his even bigger talent is his ability to connect with each of his patients, making them feel they are important and that he genuinely cares. He has such a sweet, gentle nature that makes you feel calm and relaxed.  And he is also a perfectionist, which I greatly appreciate. I too am a perfectionist when it comes to my work.

Because he had many involved dental procedures to complete, each one of my appointments took well-over an hour. The longest appointment, which involved the removal of four old crowns and prep-work for the four new crowns, took 2 1/2 hours. I had to take two pee breaks because I had a large cup of coffee before my appointment that morning, which was a HUGE mistake because I have a bladder the size of a postage stamp.

In total, I had six tooth extractions, four new crowns, and two bridges. I also had a tooth scaling done by his hygienist. Which, to be honest, was the only service I was not at all happy with. I could tell the second she started working on me that it was not going to be a positive experience. And I was right. She was the only complaint I had about the dental office and mentioned it to the office manager. I won't go into any details, but I'm happy to report that she is no longer working there. Unlike my dentist, the hygienist was half-assed, rude, and had no people-skills whatsoever. And she also tried to charged me for a service that she didn't do, which I immediately noticed on my insurance bill, so they had to credit me for the charge.

But I have to say, minus the hygienist, this was the BEST dental experience. And I am so glad that I decided to invest the time and money into doing something that needed to be done.

Below, you will see the completed work...

In conclusion:

After all this dental work, I have officially renamed myself, "The Tooth Fairy."

  1. Ron, your teeth look so good! And I'm happy to hear that besides the hygienist, your experience was positive. It's scary going to the dentist, so it really helps to cut down on the tension one feels when they are having their teeth worked on if the dentist is sensitive to their patients needs. I have a good as well, but it took me awhile to find him.

That photo edit of you as the tooth fairy is hysterical! How did you do that? Very funny!

    Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

  2. Your teeth look great! I’m one of those lucky ones who don’t even know what bridges and crowns are when it comes to teeth. And I hope to keep it that way!

So glad you had such a great experience and that you left a review. Those google reviews are so helpful to me, plus entertaining to read at times. And good for you to let them know about the hygienist. But 5he best part of this has to be that you’re done with it all! Just in time to enjoy some Thanksgiving food. Hope you have a nice holiday weekend, Ron! XO

  3. Oh Ron, I bet you are so happy that this is over. And bravo to you for doing it. My cousin is a dentist and he's instilled in me the importance of caring for our teeth because they are important to our overall health. Your teeth look really great! I'm curious, where any of the procedures you had painful?

Thank you for the update. And I am going to share this with my cousin:

  4. Morning Daniel!

Thanks! I am sooooooooooooo happy with the results and the whole experience, minus the hygienist. LOL!

Yes, you're so right, going to the dentist can be so stressful, but my dentist made the experience so enjoyable. Glad to hear you had a good dentist too! They are hard to find.

I made that photo on a free website that I sometimes used called, Face in Hole. I discovered it YEARS ago. Easy to use and lots of photos to choose from. You simply upload your own face photo to a photo on their website, edit it to your liking, and then download it to your computer.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have an awesome Thanksgiving Day and weekend!

  5. Thanks! And yes...the best part is that I'm done with it! Yahooooooooo!

"I’m one of those lucky ones who don’t even know what bridges and crowns are when it comes to teeth. And I hope to keep it that way!"

OMG, that's AWESOME! And yes, you are soooooooooooooooo lucky! My overall health is very good, the only issues I've ever had in which I needed a lot of work done, are my teeth. And that comes from old dental work I had done when I was much younger - fillings, crowns, and bridges - all of which needed replacing.

"...and that you left a review. Those google reviews are so helpful to me, plus entertaining to read at times. And good for you to let them know about the hygienist."

YES! And that's why I left a review. And after my dentist read it, he thanked me over and over again for writing it. He was so appreciative. However, the hygienist was a totally different story, she was a BEAST. LOL! And I was so happy to find out that she no longer works there because I would not have gone back to her for another cleaning.

Have an faaaaaabulous Thanksgiving/holiday weekend too!

  6. Helloooooo there Candice!

Yes, you better believe it, I am sooooo happy that it's over and done. And when I look back over the four months it took, it really seemed to go by very fast. I started the procedures during the summer and completed them this month.

Thanks! All the procedures were pretty much painless. The only uncomfortableness I experienced was the "crown work" because it was VERY involved and took so long. However, when I mentioned to my dentist that I was starting to feel some pain, he immediately numbed the area with novocaine and the pain was gone. But that was the only pain I had.

OMG...isn't that FUNNY? I found it online. Tooth hurty (2:30) HA!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Candice. Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!

  7. Ron, you adorable little tooth fairy, congratulation on the completion of your teeth reconstruction! I remember when you posted about it awhile back, but didn't think it was FOUR months ago!? It seems less than that. And I bet you are so happy to have it all done. Your teeth look fabulous! You've got very straight teeth. Did you wear braces when you were a kid?

And good for you for letting them know about the hygienist who work on you. I hate getting bad service. And good for you for catching the overcharge on your bill. I've learned to check those things because I've been overcharged for services too.

Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving, Ron! Can you believe that it's already Thanksgiving? Before we know it, Christmas will be here! XO

  8. Hola Denise!

HA! I just couldn't resist that photo of the tooth fairy. It was a last minute add-on to this post!

I know, hasn't that time gone by so fast? And I remember thinking back then how much work my dentist had to do and how LONG it was going to take, but strangely enough, the time flew by. But I think much of that had to do with how easy my dentist made it.

Thanks. No, I didn't wear braces when I was a kid. However, when I was much younger, my mother had our family dentist extract an extra tooth I had in my mouth that was directly in the front, upper part of my mouth. And had she not asked him to do that, my teeth would have been very crooked and would have NEEDED braces as I got older. I've always been happy with my teeth, however, over the years I needed a lot of replacement work done because of dental work I had when I was in my teens and twenties.

I couldn't believe she tried to charge me for the service she didn't do. And when I called her on it, she said, "Oh, I'm sorry, I must have hit the wrong button when I was filling out your service slip." And I wanted to say, "LIAR!" LOL!

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Happy Thanksgiving to you too! I know, can you believe Christmas is only a month away?

  9. Ron, I cannot believe all the work you had done over the past 4 months! But it was well worth it. What a dazzling smile! I'm very happy for you.

Several things in this post made me ROFLMAO! The photo of you as the tooth fairy; the dental joke, and "because I have a bladder the size of a postage stamp." I never heard it put that way but I'll have to remember that because I also have a very small bladder. I sometimes have to get up in the middle of night, TWICE, to pee. That's why I sleep on the side of the bed closest to the bathroom!

Have a great Thanksgiving Day tomorrow, dude!

  10. Hiya Matt!

Thank you! I know, can you believe that...four months?!?! And it seemed to go very quickly.

" I also have a very small bladder. I sometimes have to get up in the middle of night, TWICE, to pee. That's why I sleep on the side of the bed closest to the bathroom!"

OMG, that made me laugh because I TOO have to get up in the middle of the night to pee, very often twice. And sometimes if I drink a lot of water several hours before I go to bed, THREE times even!

Thanks for stopping by, my friend. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your girlfriend!

  11. Officially dubbed the tooth fairy, huh? I'll try and remember. Yes, my dental hygenist is about the same as you describe yours. No people skills at all and as if she enjoys creating pain.
Dental work is so important!! Glad you had it done, and completely satisfied.

Happy Turkey Day to you Ron.

  12. Hey there, Anni!

Ha! Yeah, I officially dubbed myself the tooth fairy. And I promise if you lose a tooth, I'll leave at $100.00 under your pillow instead of 50 cents like when we were kids! LOL!

"Yes, my dental hygenist is about the same as you describe yours. No people skills at all and as if she enjoys creating pain."

Yours too?!?! Well, my only satisfaction with mine is that she in NO LONGER working there, so I won't have to deal with her for future cleanings. My dentist initially offered to do the deep scaling himself, however, the office manager convinced me to go with the hygienist. BIG mistake.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Happy Turkey day to you too!

  13. Morning Clair!

Thank you! I'm very happy with the results.

And yes, they are removable. Years and years ago (when I was in my 30's), I got a permanent bridge and had a lot of problems with it as it got older because they are hard keep clean and developed infections in the surrounding gum and had bone loss. So this time, I chose removable for better oral hygiene. They are very secure, so they stay in place and don't move, even when I chew food. They had to adjusted at first to fit, but my dentist is such a perfectionist that he worked on them until they were a perfect fit.

Happy Thanksgiving Day to you too!

    X,

  14. I'm not a fan of pain, and I find it challenging to sit still for so long -- I think that's why dental visits are so hard for me. But they did a great job on your teeth, and isn't it wonderful how much confidence having a lovely smile gives you?!

It's unfortunate about the hygienist. Why anyone without good people skills would want to choose a profession where they have to deal with people is beyond me. You probably did that poor girl a favor by speaking up with your complaint. Maybe she decided she'd rather work in another field!

Love your tooth fairy gown (but where are you getting all the money needed to pay off kids who lose teeth and slip them under their pillows?!?) Happy Turkey-day, my friend! xx

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hellooooooooo there, Debbie!

Me too, not a fan of pain and mother of God, I am the most impatient person when it comes to so many things. However, for some reason, I was willing to be as patient as I needed to be because my dentist was such a perfectionist and made sure everything he did was sold. And yes, a good smile gives you so much confidence!

I thought the same thing about the hygienist, she should have chosen a different profession. One in which she didn't have to come in contact with other people because she had no social skills. Also, she was very careless in her work. I was so happy to hear that she moved on because I would not have gone back to her.

"Love your tooth fairy gown (but where are you getting all the money needed to pay off kids who lose teeth and slip them under their pillows?!?) "

HA! I took out a tooth fairy business loan with no interest. LOL!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend! Happy Turkey-day to you too!

  16. Congrats to you, Ron, on completion of your dental work. Visits to the dentist are never my favorite and I have made quite a few over the years. This was a nice gift to yourself and right before Christmas too. You make a delightful tooth fairy too, my friend.

  17. Thank you, D! And you're so right, it was a gift to myself right before Christmas! It feels soooooooooo good to have this over with.

"You make a delightful tooth fairy too, my friend."

    LOL! Why, thank you....:)

Have an awesome weekend, my friend. And thanks so much for stopping by. Happy Thanksgiving too!

  18. Happy to hear that, Ron! Mine too feels very secure and well adjusted. And they look so nature.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes, mine as well. The color of the teeth is a perfect match to my own teeth, so the bridges look very natural.

  20. Now that's what I call a million dollar smile!

Ron, you chompers look fantastic! I can't believe how much you had to suffer--2 1/2 hours?!?!--but the results are incredible!

Your dentist sounds like a real treasure. I've gone to doctors who have all the knowledge in the world, but don't have one iota of empathy for their patients. They might as well be working on lab rats!

I'm glad to hear the hygienist has shuffled off to Buffalo. Dental work is traumatic enough with rude people making it worse.

Love the tooth fairy photo. If that doesn't get kids to brush after every meal, nothing will!

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving, buddy, and keep smiling!

    This one's for you!

  21. Hey Rob!

Okay, first I have to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing the video clip because I don't know if you remember this but "Smile" was my mother's favorite Nat King Cole song so it literally made me SMILE! In fact, I don't know if you remember this, but I used that song when I created the pictorial video I made right after mother passed away in 2012.

I know, can you believe that one appointment took 2 1/2 hours?!? But I was so anxious to get the work done, I didn't care.

"Your dentist sounds like a real treasure. I've gone to doctors who have all the knowledge in the world, but don't have one iota of empathy for their patients. They might as well be working on lab rats!"

Me too! That's the thing with so many doctors, they very often lose their empathy for their patients because they see them only as a "body."

I was soooooooooooo happy when I heard that the "hygienist from hell" was no longer working there. They apparently had other issues with her in the past.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. And thanks again for sharing that video clip.

    Have a great Sunday!

  22. You look FABULOUS!!! Wow, that was a LOT of work. And how wonderful that you found good care, comfort, and professionalism with your new dentist. I like mine, too. And need to have a bunch more work done, but am still avoiding it a while longer. He doesn't need the down payment on a retirement Cadillac just yet. haha
Scaling... grrrr!! We used to have an amazing hygienist. She knew our teeth, and did what she needed to, the way it needed to be done for us. She retired. And then it was... oh you both need scaling, that former employee of ours should have done it. So Ron was like, ok, I'll have it done. And he then ended up needing to have a root canal. Would that tooth have ended up there eventually, maybe. But the other hygienist just knew he had some trouble in one spot and treated it carefully. They get a good bit more money for scaling, vs. a regular cleaning though so it just seemed a little curious after the one retired, more were recommended for that procedure. And there have been some charges I've had to question on some bills as well. It's a shame because I really like my dentist and want him to stay with him, but some of the other stuff is a drag and I avoid going at times because of it.
That last picture, OMG Ron, freaking hysterical!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Aw...thank you, Mary! Yes, it was a LOT of work and took a little over four months, but I am so happy with the results. And it was something that I really needed to take care of because I had put it off for such a long time because I didn't have insurance. However, when I got it this year, I went for it. I had to pay out of pocket for certain things, but overall, my insurance covered it. Whew!

" He doesn't need the down payment on a retirement Cadillac just yet. haha"

HAHAHAHAHAHA! That literally made me LOL because it's so true. Why is it that ANYTHING related to dental work cost a FORTUNE?

"Would that tooth have ended up there eventually, maybe. But the other hygienist just knew he had some trouble in one spot and treated it carefully."

I think you're absolutely spot on about that. It may have ended up there eventually, however, I'm sure your other hygienist would have treated it with more care.

And you're right, they DO get more money for scaling than a regular cleaning, which I don't mind paying for. However the hygienist who did mine did such a CRAPPY job that it didn't even look like she did anything.

And yes, I've learned to always double check my bills because they very often slip in another fee when you're not looking, hoping you won't catch it.

Thanks so much for stopping by, neighbor! Hope all is well with you and your family and that you had a Happy Thanksgiving!

  24. Ron, your teeth look stunning! You've got that "Pepsodent Smile." Do you remember those commercials back in the 60's? "You'll wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent. LOL!

Congrats on completing your dental work. I bet you are so happy, hu? And I'm glad to hear you like your dentist so much because that's so important to find one that you trust. And shame on that hygienist for charging you for something you didn't get. Sounds like she needs to find a new profession, perhaps a car saleswoman!

My husband and I both laughed so hard at the tooth fairy photo. You're a hoot, Ron! xo

    ReplyDelete
  25. OMG Elaine....YES!....I so totally remember those commercials and the Pepsodent jingle!!!! In fact, I went over to YouTube and found the vintage commercial and watched it!

Thank you! Yes, I am beyond happy that it's over. And I'm also happy about my dentist too because it's such a scary thing to search for a new dentist. But the second I met him, I knew I could trust him. He's a great dentist AND a great human being.

" Sounds like she needs to find a new profession, perhaps a car saleswoman!"

    HA! You're so right!!!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day and are enjoying this gorgeous Autumn weather!

  26. A good dentist is a godsend! A good hygienist even more so since they are the ones cleaning all the gunk off our teeth! Your end results look fantastic. And....as we all know....your never fully dressed without a smile! X

    ReplyDelete
  27. You are so right, Lisa, a good dentist is a godsend! And it's funny you mentioned that because I truly feel that he was sent from God to me to be my dentist because I instantly felt comfortable with him, which is rare to feel when meet a new dentist for the first time.

I was so happy to hear that the hygienist who worked on me was no longer there because there is no way in hell that I would have gone back to her. Hopefully, the next time I have my teeth clean, the hygienist they hire will be a lot more conscientious than the previous one.

"And....as we all know....your never fully dressed without a smile! "

HA! I loved that! And I also love that song from the musical!
