Hi folks! Today's post is all about pictures, can you tell?
I had so many images stored on my computer and cell phone, it was time to clear up some space by sharing them on my blog.
So, I apologize in advance for OD'ing you with pictures.
Feel free to scroll through them fast.
These are all city photographs from June 2024 through January 2025. Some I captured with my Canon camera, others with my cell phone.
Okay, and here we go...
-----------------------------
Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul
Isn't the exterior stunning? The day I went there it was closed. It's normally open seven days a week. However, with Philadelphia's hefty homeless situation, the cathedral is only open on Sundays (for mass) because people just walk in off the streets and make it their home. I will say, though, the cathedral helps the homeless each month by offering meals that are set up on the side of the cathedral...
The next two photos are of the little chapel next to the cathedral - The Chapel of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament...
As I was leaving the cathedral, look what I discovered when I looked inside the manger. I immediately noticed that baby Jesus was not lying in the straw crib. I was shocked. I assumed someone walked by one day and had STOLEN him. Can you believe that?
Notice the face on one of The Wise Men in the back row (red arrow). He looks HORRIFIED that baby Jesus is gone.
Oh well, whoever stole him, I hope they remember something.
Karma's a bitch.
Especially when you mess with baby Jesus. A-men!
If you follow me on Instagram, I'm sure you've already seen these next three photos of the steel and glass Comcast Center...
Don't the people walking on the metal beams look real?
And look at what some nice person did to this jewelry advertisement poster. Don't you love the carton of French fries on her forehead? And I think she looks gorgeous in that moustache, don't you?
And of course, what would Philadelphia be without its monthly riots?
Below, you will see a riot that occurred last June during Gay Pride Month. It started at about 8 PM and continued until 1:30 AM. There was complete pandemonium in the streets. Sirens, police officers, police cars, screaming, yelling, garbage can fires, helicopters flying above, and people jumping on cars that were stopped at the traffic lights. There was even a point when several rioters boldly ran over to the police officers who were just standing there and tried to attack them.
In Philly, what's wrong is right, and what's right is wrong. The city makes laws but then never enforces them. You can pretty much do anything you want in Philly. It's a free-for-all city.
I've renamed Philadelphia's tagline from — "The City of Brotherly Love" to...
Philadelphia — "It's a riot!"
The colors in this mural are so bright, vivid, and bold...
I did not see the bird flying around the tower atop City Hall until I downloaded the picture from my cell phone...
Okay, you will not believe this story. Do you see that ADORABLE dog with that ADORABLE face? Well, do you know what that ADORABLE dog did on the floor in a coffee shop?
He made a PEE PUDDLE.
ADORABLE...
Here are two then and now comparison photographs.
The Girard Trust Bank (left) is now The Ritz-Carlton (right)...
City Hall via North Broad Street
I tried to shoot my photograph from the same angle. Close, but not perfect...
This final photograph is of me and my dear friend Kelly. She and I went out one day and practiced with our cameras. Kelly has such a great eye for photography...
Thank you for taking the time to view my photographs.
Ron, this is so true..."Philadelphia -- "It's a riot!" -- You nailed it. This city is a free-for-all. And I'm sure you were aware of all the insanity that went on last week when Philly won the game. I live in South Philly and it was wacko crazy in my neighborhood. And I'm sure where you live, it was even more intense. I can only imagine what will take place in this city if they win on Sunday. SCARY!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your photo post because you capture the beauty in this city, not the crap. Well, some of it LOL!
That cathedral is so beautiful. My husband and I went inside years ago. It was breathtaking. Reminded me somewhat of St. Patrick's in New York City.
I can't believe that doggie PEED on the floor in the coffee shop. He is adorable though!
Great comparison of The Girard Trust Bank and The Ritz-Carlton. I love how different the automobiles look from different decades.
Picture perfect post, Ron! Have a great weekend, sir. xox
Ron, I'm dying to know how the coffee shop reacted after the dog peed??? Did they ask the owner to leaver, or what? Curious minds what to know Lol!
ReplyDeleteYou picture are really, really beautiful. You too had a great eye for photography.
I literally burst out laughing at the missing baby Jesus commentary -- "Karma's a bitch. Especially when you mess with baby Jesus" -- And he does look horrified. Did you ever find out what happened to baby Jesus?
Gorgeous shot of The Comcast Center. They do look real. If you hadn't mentioned that I would have asked you.
My city sounds a lot like how you described Philadelphia - a free for all. Over the past two years, it's gotten progressively worse. And it's a shame because it's a great city in many ways. I'm getting tired of the chaos though.
Always enjoy your posts, Ron! Have a nice weekend.
Good evening, Elaine!
ReplyDeleteYes, for sure, I only live a block and a half from where the Eagles celebration was going on in front of City Hall. It was so intense because I could hear sirens all night long (police cars and paramedic vehicles) going up and down the streets. And you should have seen what it looked like in the morning. Broad Street looked as though someone had dropped a bomb on it. And I'm sure you heard about the 18-year-old Temple student who died while climbing on one of the light pole. How sad. And God only knows what this Sunday will be like if they win. Pray for me. I'm seriously thinking about taking the train outside the city and renting a cheap hotel that night.
Isn't that cathedral EXQUISITE? I've been inside years ago and wanted to revisit on the day I took that photo, but it was closed. You're right, it does very much look like St. Patrick's!
Isn't he adorable? He looked at me at the perfect time when I took that photo. Such a cutie he is!
Me too. The automobiles and the way people dressed back then.
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaaaaaabulous weekend!

Hey there, Daniel!
ReplyDeleteNo, they did not ask the owner of the dog to leave or weren't upset at all. Partly because the dog was so damn cute, and also the owner immediately got up and began cleaning it up; apologizing profusely. If you look at the photo again, notice the young lady wearing the red blouse, she was part of the management and was so nice about the whole thing. She actually got down and helped the owner clean it up.
Thank you. I love taking pictures, ever since I was a kid. My mother bought me my first camera for Christmas one year because she sense my passion for photography. It was a Kodak Polaroid Camera ( https://i.etsystatic.com/9735558/r/il/c69e39/2062144453/il_570xN.2062144453_b5w0.jpg)
Don't they look so real? I had to do a double-take when I looked up.
Yes, Philly is very much how you described YOUR city. And I agree, it's a shame because structurally and historically, Philadelphia is a beautiful city. I just can't stand the consciousness of this city. I'm tired of the chaos too! And the more I talk with people here, they are getting tired of it as well. No one wants to pay the prices to leave here and have to witness all the chaos everyday.
Thank you for stopping by, Daniel. You too, have nice weekend!

Yes Ron, I did hear about that on the news. How tragic. And how about that car that drove through a crowd of people in North Philly during the Eagles win celebration. I'm shocked no one was killed.
ReplyDeleteI think you're wise to get out of the city on Sunday. We should do that too.
Yes, but I didn't hear about the car incident until a day later. After watching the news clip, I was amazed there were no deaths. These sports fans are crazy and out of control.
ReplyDeleteRon, I don't know if I ever shared this with you in the past, but my cousin lived in Philadelphia for 4 years while attending college and he said that area was a nightmare. Especially at night. He liked certain things about the city, but overall he knew that once college was over, he'd move. And he did. And it's sad because judging from your photos, it looks like a beautiful city. I saw on the news how the sports fans reacted to the Eagles win. WOW! How do they react when they lose?
ReplyDeleteThe colors on that mural are gorgeous! It looks like a crossword puzzle!
I love vintage photos in comparison to the present. I find it fascinating to see what was THEN compared to what's NOW.
Can I ask, how did you learn about photography and how to use a camera?
That dog is really AORABLE. Pee and all!
Ron, for as long as I've been reading your blog, I always enjoy your photograph post. I really do!
ReplyDeleteThe photos looking into the chapel are so beautiful. Even though I'm not religious, I do like visiting churches of all denominations because of how peaceful they feel. When I lived in New York, whenever I would go into the city, I would try to stop by St. Pat's on 5th Ave. I also loved going to St Peter's Roman Catholic Church down in the Financial District. Gorgeous church!
"Notice the face on one of The Wise Men in the back row (red arrow). He looks HORRIFIED that baby Jesus is gone." --- ROFLMAO! Too funny, Ron! And poor baby Jesus :( I wonder what happened to him.
I love that red door too - the color and the arch. The comparison photographs are just the coolest. I like looking at all the detail from each decade. I love anything having to do with history.
Philly sounds like it's turning into New York City. I have friends that still live there (Brooklyn) and they are over it. Be safe, Ron!
CUTE, CUTE, CUTE dog!
Wishing you a stellar weekend! xo
Good evening, Abby!
ReplyDeleteNo, I did not know about your cousin living here while at Temple. And yes, that area is very sketchy. A lot of physical attacks and robberies in that neighborhood. And it's a shame because Temple is an awesome college. Philly has a lot of really great colleges and universities. But the people who go to college here, don't plant roots here after they finish. They move on. It's very much a "college town."
Isn't that mural FANTASTIC? I watched as the artists gradually painted it, and then one day, it was complete. That mural is down in the Old City area of Philly.
Me too, I have SUCH fascination with vintage photographs in comparison to how it looks now. Philadelphia is a very old city, so it has a lot of historical buildings.
Yes, sure. I am a self-taught photographer. I just always liked camera and photographs, even as a kid. I lean best when I teach myself thru trial and error. I did (and still do) educate myself through how-to photography videos and books. I gradually went from an automatic camera to a manual. But I've become very lazy using my cell phone a lot.
Thanks a bunch for stopping by, Abby. Have a great evening and weekend!

Hola, Denise!
ReplyDeleteThanks, girl! Sometimes if I post too many pictures within one post, I get concerned it's too much.
What you said about visiting churches/chapels/cathedrals is exactly how I feel. I'm not a religious person at all, but I do believe in God. I just don't follow any one practice. My relationship with God is personal - one on one. I actually have a very strong faith, however, it's not attached any one religion.
"I also loved going to St Peter's Roman Catholic Church down in the Financial District. Gorgeous church!"
OMG, I know exactly where that is because I used to live in the Financial District when I first moved to NYC (Pace University). It's truly one of my favorite areas in Manhattan. I love ALL of Lower Manhattan.
You're right, Philly does sound like what's going on in NYC. I think it's happening in MANY cities in the country. I'm over it too, and hoping that this year will be my final year. I crave being closer to nature. I love the state of Pennsylvania, I just can't stand Philadelphia.
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Stellar weekend to you too!
X
Oh god, me too, Ron! I friggin' love Lower Manhattan - The Financial District, Meat Packing, The Battery, SoHo, Tribeca, and South Street Seaport. I love the "vibe" in Lower Manhattan.
ReplyDeleteWe sound so much a like when it comes to our spiritual beliefs.
Oh my gawd Ron, I'm am DYING about that adorable dog leaving a pee puddle on the floor!!!!! And look at his cute little face looking at you as if he's saying, "Ooops...sorry you caught that on camera. My bad!"
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are SO GOOD! I love them all. But the ones of the Comcast Center are my faves. I also love the one of the bird in flight around City Hall. And also, also, the comparison photos.
And YIKES about the riot. Do they happen a lot in Philly? Do they frighten you at all? They would me.
Can I ask you something? You mentioned your camera is a Canon. What model do you have. The reason I ask is because I'm looking to upgrade my camera and I was looking at a Canon and I Nikon in the store.
And who in the world would take baby Jesus? You're right, don't mess with him. Karma's a bitch. LOL!!!!!!
Have a great weekend! x
YES to every area of Manhattan you mentioned! And I agree with you 100% about the "vibe" down there. I also like that area because it's the oldest part of the city and I love the architecture. The only thing I don't like about that area is how expensive it is. But then again, ALL of NYC is expensive.
ReplyDeleteMorning, Barbara!
ReplyDelete"And look at his cute little face looking at you as if he's saying, "Ooops...sorry you caught that on camera. My bad!"
Hahahahahahaha! OMG, you're exactly right, he does!!! He was such friendly little guy too. At one point he came over to me and I was able to pet him and tell him how adorable he was. The whole coffee shop was in love with him.
Yes, the riots happen quite frequently in this city. I have nothing against "protests" or "marches" if someone feels passionate about a topic. They have every right to do that. However, what I am against are riots because they achieve nothing except distruction. And that happens a lot in Philadelphia. It's a very self-destructive city that enables destructive behavior.
My Canon camera is a Canon EOS
Rebel t5. I got eons ago. The camera is awesome, I just need to upgrade the lens because it's very, very basic. I've also had Nikons and loved them.
Thanks so much for stopping by, Barb! Have a great Friday and weekend!

I love the variety of photos that you shared in the post, Ron! It's a mixture of so many different images. God, I love the exterior of the cathedral. When I initially went to college for architecture, but changed my mind mid-first year. But I still have such a passion for it. I love the Roman-Corinthian style of Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. It's stunning! Makes you feel that you're actually in Rome! Have you ever been inside? I bet it's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThe look on The Wise Man's face is hilarious. Actually, everyone in the manger has a perplexed look on their face like, "Where is baby Jesus?"
The arch around that red door is so beautiful. Again, my eyes immediately go to the style and design of a structure. I also like modern architecture, much like the Comcast photos.
That riot looked intense. I don't understand why some people act-out like that. It doesn't solve anything. How is the police enforcement in your city?
Cool capture of the bird!
Thank you, Robert! I had so many photos backed up on my computer and phone from various times of the year, so that's why their such a mixture of images.
ReplyDelete" When I initially went to college for architecture, but changed my mind mid-first year. But I still have such a passion for it. I love the Roman-Corinthian style of Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. It's stunning! "
OMG, that is so interesting! I have often said that I feel like a frustrated architecture because like you, I'm fascinated by it. I do know (because I onced dated someone who was an architect) that the education is very intense and involve. LOTS of projects are due throughout the years. It takes up a lot of time.
Yes, I have been inside. I visited many years ago. In case you're interested, here is the link to a post I published back in 2015 of the interior of the cathedral. The inside is just as beautiful as the exterior.
" I don't understand why some people act-out like that. It doesn't solve anything. How is the police enforcement in your city?"
My feels exactly. Doesn't solve ANYthing. And the police enforcement in this city is getting better. Yet, they still have to be very careful about what they say and do, as not to offend the people who are rioting, stealing, or doing hard drugs on the streets. However, that is slowly changing. And I'm happy about that.
Thanks so much for stopping by, Robert! Have a great rest of your day and weekend!

LOVE this post, Ron! So much to see and either enjoy or hate😵💫😵💫😵💫 Good grief on the riots! We haven’t had one here since 2020 (George Floyd riot) but we do have ‘street takeovers’ where criminals shut down the interstates! It’s insane and just one of the reasons we can’t go downtown and enjoy the restaurants at night. 😡 And what a shame that someone stole Baby Jesus, but hilarious look on the wise man’s face!
ReplyDeleteWow! City Hall is incredible. I’d think I was in Europe. And you know how much I love your comparison shots. That’s cool that they mimicked the street lamp in front of the Ritz. It’s awesome when cities repurpose the old banks. Many of ours are now high end restaurants and one is even a very nice grocery store. I bet the Ritz is amazing inside!
And I’m so glad to see someone with a paper towel in the dog photos because I was worried you were going to say they just got up and left 🤣 I hope you have a fabulous weekend, Ron! Was so glad to see you posted this morning. XO

ReplyDeleteYes, we have those too! In fact, we have those even more frequent than the riots. Last week we had one on the Interstate that created total pandemonium. People were getting out of their cars, walking up to the people protesting, and started beating them because the blocked off rush hour traffic for HOURS. Philly is actually a very angry city. And if you lived here, you would see it on a daily basis. That's why when I have to go outside the city for work, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!
HA! Isn't the look on his face HYSTERICAL? But I truly wondered WHO stole baby Jesus?!?
"That’s cool that they mimicked the street lamp in front of the Ritz. It’s awesome when cities repurpose the old banks. Many of ours are now high end restaurants and one is even a very nice grocery store. I bet the Ritz is amazing inside!"
Yes, that's something I thought was cool as well - the street lamp. And that's actually the same street light in both photos. They just moved it from the middle of Broad Steet to the corner of The Ritz-Carlton. And if you look real close, you can see another street lamp in the Then photo on the opposite side of the Now photo.
Isn't City Hall beautiful? I live only a few blocks from there. I walk through City Hall on the days that I shop at Trader Joe's because it's right on the other side.
Yup, the owner of the dog cleaned it up pronto, with the assistance of one of the employees.
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have fabulouso weekend!
X
Thanks, Ron! I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the Canon. It seems to have everything I need for a beginner AND it's on SALE! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteYou are so welcome, Barbara! Canon's are solid camera's. I'm very happy with mine. I got it on sale too! 👍 I bought it from Best Buy.
ReplyDeleteRon, I'm puzzled over the missing baby Jesus in the manger. Was it possible you visited the cathedral during the time before Christmas? I ask because typically, our church decorates everything except the baby statue, which is brought in (generally by a child) in a procession at Christmas Eve Mass. Otherwise, I can't fathom what this is supposed to represent.
ReplyDeleteLove the people walking on those beams, and I'm still giggling over that peeing pooch. Just when you think you've got 'em housebroken, they squat on the floor in public!! And yes, his adorable face probably saved him from a scolding!
Thanks for clearing out your photos, my friend. It's always great to see a bunch of different views of your city. Stay warm in the snow and ice that looks to be headed your way! XX
Hello there, Debbie!
ReplyDeleteNo, I took that photo at the beginning of January, so it was after Christmas. And yes, I do remember the custom you mentioned from going to Catholic school myself. I went to Catholic school for 8 years.
" Otherwise, I can't fathom what this is supposed to represent."
To be honest, that's Philly. People do disruptive things like that, JUST to be disruptive. Sad but true.
"Just when you think you've got 'em housebroken, they squat on the floor in public!! And yes, his adorable face probably saved him from a scolding!"
HA! Isn't he adorable? And yes, that face saved him from being scolded because every single person in the coffee shop was unbothered by what he did.
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Yup, we're getting lots of snow and ice tomorrow. In fact, today you could feel the temperature plummet. But you know me, I am going to hold on to this cold weather and snow for as long as I can. Because once Spring arrives, it goes directly to summer. I think I need to move to Alaska! LOL!
Have a fabulous weekend!
X to you and the Monk!
Wow Ron, your capture of City Hall is amazing. That beautiful blue sky makes it POP. What Incredible shots of the Comcast Center. Such an awesome contrast in the third one down of the steel and glass next to that historical looking structure. The composition is like a piece of art.
ReplyDeleteGreat comparison photos! Isn't it wild to see a structure placed in two different decades? The structure is the same, yet everything around it is different.
And yikes! about the riots in Philadelphia. That's some scary stuff. Does it frighten YOU? How long have you lived there?
"He made a PEE PUDDLE." -- I love that breed of dog. They are so cute! x
Goooood morning, Clair!
ReplyDeleteThank you! You're so right, that bright blue sky makes it POP! If remember correctly, I think I took three photos from differents angles of that building on that day. When I downloaded them to my computer, THAT'S when I spotted the bird, so that's the one I chose.
" Isn't it wild to see a structure placed in two different decades? The structure is the same, yet everything around it is different."
Yes it is! And you perfectly described one of the primarly reasons I am fascinated by comparison photos. I so enjoy looking at the similarities AND the differences.
No, the riots don't frighten me at all, they piss me off because I'm sick and tired of witnessing this kind of animalistic behavior. And it's become very common in this city. And it doesn't matter what time of day it is, they happen day and night. I've lived here 24 years. I was born in Philly, but have also lived in various other places. I moved back in 2001.
Isn't that breed adorable? All I want to do is snuggle with it and kiss its cute litte furry face!
Much thanks for stopping by, Clair! Have a great weekend!
X
Ron, thanks a lot for sharing the link. WOW...the interior is just as magnificent as the exterior. And I'm glad to hear that's changing in you city. As well it should be. Peace to you!
ReplyDeleteYou are so welcome, Robert! Isn't the interior STUNNING? I love the ceiling and the stained glass windows.
ReplyDeleteThanks, you're right...as well it should be! Where I work, they are starting to arrest the people who steal. And when they steal, they steal A LOT.
Ron! These photos are absolutely beautiful. You have such an eye for photography. So many of these are my favorites, but I love the pictures of your POV of the crowds in the streets.
ReplyDeleteThat dog is so adorable!
I love that you and Kelly went out to take pictures together.
Thank you for sharing these with us! ❤️
Thank you, Kari! And yes, that night got very crazy in the streets. With the Super Bowl game tomorrow, I have a feeling we'll be getting more of the same. That's why I am NOT leaving my apartment, one the game starts.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that dog PRECIOUS? I wanted to kiss his little furry face!
Thanks a bunch for stopping by, my friend! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Helloooo, Ron!! Of course, you know I LOVE photos and yours are always enjoyable to see!
ReplyDeleteThe Basilica, definitely cool looking. I like the red door, too. City Hall has always been a fav. We don't get to Philly as much as we used to but there is always something nice to photograph. Well, ok, not riots. That must be the absolute worst thing about living there for you. I can't even imagine what it must have been like when the Eagles won the Super Bowl. We were watching, Ron and our family are big fans, but the street scenes on the news... whew, toooo many people for me! I remember taking our son to the parade when the Phillies won the World Series many years ago. Now that I'm older there is NOOO way I would want to be there for that mess on Friday. Hopefully, the energy will stay happy and not bring out those who want to cause trouble.
Nice cameras you and Kelly have. How fun you get to go out together and take cool pics!
Hellooooooooooooo there, Mary!
ReplyDeleteAw....thank you! I had so many photos stored on my cell phone and camera, I need to make some space.
" That must be the absolute worst thing about living there for you. I can't even imagine what it must have been like when the Eagles won the Super Bowl. We were watching, Ron and our family are big fans, but the street scenes on the news... whew, toooo many people for me!"
It was truly the worst of the worst since I've been living here. I won't go into all of it, but I will mention four things...
-They started a MASSIVE fire on Market Street that took the Philadelphia Fire Dept to put out
-They tour down FOUR traffic lights on Broad Street directly in front of City Hall that caused two days of traffic jams because there were no lights to direct the traffic.
--They also smashed the store front windows on several stores on Walnut Street. They also smashed the windows of a BANK.
-And I'm sure you read about the 18-year-old Temple student who fell off a pole on the night they won their home game and DIED.
It's one thing to be happy for your sports teams, but to be this destructive and damaging to your city is absolutely psychotic. It's also disrespectful to the Eagles football team.
When they say that Philly sports fans are the worst, trust me as a native Philadelphian, they ARE. They are a total embarrassment. And our mayor and governor do nothing about it. And I can only imagine what's going to happen on Friday when they have their parade.
Oh, and all of this went on until 6 AM the following morning. And when I walked to Trader Joe's at 8 AM, the city looked like someone had dropped a bomb. I was going to take pictures and post them on my blog, but it was too depressing.
But other than that, I'm doing FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABULOUS! LOL!
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. And yes, stay home in Jersey and watch it on TV. It's much nicer and SAFER.
Have a super fab week!
X
Yes, I heard about the student who died. :( All of it is just terrible. I did read this morning that there were quite a few arrests and citations, but, probably not enough because it keeps happening. I'm sure many cities have some issues after big events. Philly fans do have a rough reputation (none of my people are aholes LOL) but it can get crazy fast. Here's (((hoping))) the parade will be more fun for those going, and less destructive!! Stay in, be safe! xo
ReplyDeleteHello again, Mary!
ReplyDeleteYou're so right --- not enough because it keeps happening, and will continue to happen. "It's a Philly Thing" -- LOL!
"Philly fans do have a rough reputation (none of my people are aholes LOL) but it can get crazy fast."
No, I'm sure they're not in the least. It's the Philadelphia Philly fans that act this way. Although, they love to blame it on the "outsiders" that come to Philly to celebrate who are ones that are causes all the destruction. That's another thing about Philly, it's in deep denial about so many things.
Yes, I won't be going outside at all on Friday. I'm going to stay inside, make some homemade soup, watch comedy movies, and stay safe.
Thanks so much for stopping back again, my friend. I'm headed outside to enjoy the SNOW we got last night and this morning. Yipppppeeeeee!
