To me, there’s something so sexy about a woman wearing a suit.

Whether it be a tailored business suit or something more casual and loose fitting, I think a woman looks absolutely stunning.

It’s a beautiful blend of both femininity and masculinity.

There’s a softness, and yet a strength to it.

It almost seems androgynous.

I first began my appreciating of women wearing suits, when I was working for the cosmetic division of Chanel, where both the gentlemen AND the ladies were required to wear an all-black pant suit. The gentleman wore it with a white dress shirt and a Chanel tie, and the ladies wore it with a white open-neck dress shirt, and a white camellia on the lapel of the jacket. It was simple, basic…yet totally striking.

Just the other day, I was walking down the street and spotted a woman coming out of a building wearing a sharp-looking suit and carrying a brief case, and I immediately thought to myself, “WOW…how beautiful.”

Now…my only question is this.

How come it doesn’t work the other way around?

I mean, is it just me?

But why is it that when a man puts on a dress…

…it doesn’t quite have the same effect....?

  2. Hi Ron !

I never have been what they call a "fashion victim" but I think that a women's suit is a piece of clothing that is timeless & always in good taste... Unless of course you wear it with pink polka dots or something ghastly !

Working in a classy place meant you were dolled up everyday. I'd LOVE to see a pic of you like that !
I've been busy this past week and working "off blog".... See you this week !

    Hugs XXXX

  5. Maybe it's just me, but John Leguizamo made ChiChi Rodriguez look pretty darn cute in 'To Wong Foo'. LOL Although he/she was wearing girly dresses. ;)

When I used to work in an office wayyyyy back when I didn't have much money for clothes so unfortunately I was one of the worst dressed there. My wardrobe mainly consisted of a few cotton dresses, cobby cuddler type sandal shoes (because of having to walk to and from the speedline in Philly) and maybe a couple rayon sets. One time I splurged on a crisp white blouse and duchess skirt and that's the only time I remember getting a compliment. I guess alot of people really do notice when someone is being fashionable. LOL

  8. Bonjou Barbara!

    YES...I totally agree with you!!

And that's the perfect way to say it...timeless.

Working for Chanel was my introduction into the classics. And even though I'm not a fashion victim myself, if I had to choose one style, it would definately be Chanel. Although, Donna Karan is also classic.

I think I may have a few photos of my co-workers and I went was with Chanel. I may do a post on that one day. Thanks for the suggestion!

    ALWAYS wonderful seeing ya, Barb!

And no worries, dear friend. Stop by whenever. I've actually been offline a lot this weekend too!

    HAPPY MONDAY Barb!

    Love to you and Didier.

  12. Helloooo Crystal Chick!

Oh damn, wasn't that movie WONDERFUL???

And yes, I agree....John Legiuzamo looked incredably believable as a woman, didn't he? Wasn't he hysterical??? Westly Snipes was my favorite character, though. His character was funny and very sweet.

Hey listen, when it comes to fashion...I'm all about comfort and simplicity. I'm really not a fashion statement, myself. I have a tendency to wear the same things over and over again. And thank god at work...I can only wear BLACK, because that's really all I own anyway. And living in a city, my shoes HAVE to be comfortable.

Thanks so much for stopping by today, M!

    Hope you had wonderful weekend.

    Happy Monday to ya!

Oh WOW...now that's TWO compliments on me wearing a dress!

Hey...do you think I could be wrong about this? Maybe men DO look good in dresses and I'm just not SEEING it?!?!?

I need to examine this more closely, I think.

Oh, and YES...men in KILTS is definately the exception. GOD LOVE THOSE SCOTS!!

Thanks for stopping by today, dear lady! You always brighten my posts!

    HAPPY MONDAY to ya!

  15. I worked corporate accounting for 11 years, so that meant I lived in suits 5 days a week.

I much prefer the laid back family owned place I am at now. Jeans are always ok, and tank tops and sandals are fine in the summer.

I can't say I miss my suits much. They still see some action during ummmm....mmmmmm.....never mind.

I'll just hush up and keep my lady like status. I think I am still on my 90 day probation here! *wink*

    Hope your day is beautiful.

  16. Hello VK!

OHHHHH...but I bet when you DID wear your suits, you looked FAAAAABULOUS!

I hear ya though, anything worn consistently over time, can get old. At work, I'm required to wear only black (which for me, is wonderful), but so many of the wonderful ladies that I work with wish they had more diversity in the dress code.

On my days off, I'm just like you....

...nothing feels better to me, than comfortably jeans and a t shirt.

And never any need for probation here, always share as you wish. I can tell from your sweet and kind soul...you're a lady!

Thank you SOOOOOO much for stopping today, VK.

    Always a pleasure!

    Happy Monday to ya!

  18. Afternoon Akelamalu!

Definately!!! A suit worn with pants OR a skirt looks VERY sexy and smart!

I once knew a female impersonator who looked really wonderful in a dress. However...he had boobies and hips to go with it!

    HHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Thanks for stopping by, dear lady!

Hope you had a wonderful Monday!

  19. Hi Ron!

About men not looking as fab in a dress - you haven't seen RuPaul's Drag Race! I would kill to look like some of those men in dresses! And their make-up - WOW! It is really unbelieveable. If you get a chance you have to see it, then let me know if it changes your opionio.

    Have a good day!

  20. Helloooooo Miss P!

    Hey...it's SOOOOOOOOOOO GREAT seeing ya!

    Thanks for stopping by!

OMG...I can't believe you mentioned Rupaul, because I TOTALLY agree with you!!! I mean, have you ever seen a guy look so FAB in a dress in all your life? I'm a HUGE fan of his. He's got a great blog that I visit every once in awhile. I also read his book - it was wonderful!

I used to work for MAC cosmetics, and Rupaul was their first model for the lipstick VIVA GLAM.

So yes...I agree with you about how when men impersonating women can look AWESOME in a dress.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Miss P!

    It's always a wonderful TREAT!

    Enjoy your day!

  21. I think women who are tall and thin (no bitching at me, please) look marvelous in suits. Me, I could never wear a suit, too restricting. Plus, I remember the '70's -'80's with all those horrible polyester women's pantsuits. *shudder* But, yes, certain women look classy in nice suits.

    "SUIT UP!" Ron :D

  22. I would never bitch at you, Sis...never.

However, you DID remind me of all those HORRIBLE polyester clothes in the 70's-80's. God...I think everything was made of HOT polyester. I remember those damn Nik-Nik shirts I wore to the disco clubs and sweating to death!

Thanks for stopping by, Lady Nitebyrd!

    You always ROCK!

  24. now i know why i like it here. you're a smart man.

i love suits. i fancy pant suits, but i can rock a business suit (skirt) just as well.

i like being well dressed. makes me feel good and you're right, it is sexy. there's a woman in my office who rarely repeats her outfits and yeah, i'm jealous, but in a good way.

and i love men in suits too.

  25. Hellooooo Natural!

Yes, definately...I think a man looks GREAT in a suit too!

    I LOVE wearing a suit!

And you're so right...when I put on a suit I feel GREAT! It actually makes me stand differently. My posture feels better.

SOOOOO glad to hear you enjoy wearing a suit, cause I think they're the BOMB!

    So SUIT ON, Natural!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

    Enjoy your evening!

  26. hahahaa, what an UGLY PICTURE!! nope, not quite the same , is it...

hmmm, black suit, white shirt and a CAMELIA!? Wow, I could have gotten into that look and still could!! I guess that was before my Chanel time, lol....interesting to read your take on what's stylish....I love to read what you think about all this stuff, being a fashion freak, just a tad....and this sounds so sexy....I agree that a man in a black suit is ooohlala and a woman, just the same only better....if he's a hunk- but even a dumpy man can look good in an expensive dark suit and a white shirt...my dh is gorgeous in one(he's far from dumpy too!), the few years he put one on and when he was in the air force in the 70's, well....oooohlalalala... ;)

i think you'd look very good in that get up!

    love you, xoxoxox

  27. Howdy Ho Linda!

Isn't that last photo a HOOT???

It was ugliest photo I could find online with a man in a dress!!

The shoes just about killed me!!

The six years I spent with Chanel, were FAAAAAABULOUS! I hate to say this, but back then I became like a Chanel Stepford Wife! I felt brainwashed by CHANEL stuff! It's still one of my faborite styles, because for the most part, it's clean and simple. And A LOT of black!

True, Linda....man or woman, short or tall, I think a suit makes everyone look WONDERFUL.

I especially love to put on a tuxedo. I like how it makes me feel.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing on this post, my friend!

    It's ALWAYS enjoyed!

    XOXOXO

  28. Ron, I've been visiting thrift shops lately looking for unique and/or funky placemats to make tote bags from.

I was a Goodwill about a week ago and couldn't find a parking space! People who you'd never expect were shopping in Goodwill!
A shitty economy sure is a great equalizer. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi Nitebyrd!

Hey listen, PLEASE let me know when you add those placemat tote bags to your Esty Shop, because they sound FAAAABULOUS!

    What a GREAT creative idea!!!!

Oh man, I had no idea about all the really wonderful stuff you can find in a thrift store. Some of the stuff looked brand new and never worn.

I agree, with the economy the way that it is, thrift store are definitely the way to go. And they're so much fun too!
