Last Saturday afternoon we had our first snowfall here in Philadelphia.

Earlier in the week I kept hearing that we were going to get some snow on the weekend, so I was jumping up and down and clapping my hands for five days; zealously anticipating a snowfall like the final scene in the movie White Christmas.

However, I really wouldn’t call what we got a full snowfall, it was more like a snow/rainfall.

But, honestly? I didn’t care because all I could focus on was the blessed SNOW.

I don’t think people truly realize how coo-coo nutty I get when it comes to the first snowfall of the year.

Watching me react to snow you would think I was an alien from some faraway planet who had never seen it before. I literally start cheering and flailing my arms, as if I were watching hundred dollar bills falling from the sky.

I pretty much go insane.

Everyone at work knows how I am when it comes to snow. So, Saturday afternoon when one of my fellow employees eagerly told me that it had begun to snow, I RAN over to one of the glass doors and pressed my nose against it like a little boy; causing my breath to form. I watched, as these HUGE snowflakes floated down from the heavens and landed on the pavement. None of it stuck of course, but it didn’t matter to me because it SNOWED!!!!

And you have no idea how much I wanted to run outside without my coat on and start dancing in it like the Sugar Plum Fairy in a lavender tutu.

One of my favorite things to do whenever it snows, is to try and catch snowflakes on my tongue.

I know that may sound strange, but I’m actually a 6 year old boy trapped inside a 54 year old man.

There is something so magically childlike about running through a city park, waggling my tongue in the cold air; catching a snowflake or two.

However, I have to be very cautious when I do this because I have terrible karma when it comes to pigeons….

.....the little fuckers.

Oh, if you could see the 8" that's stacked silently on the railing of the front porch.... I have no problem visualizing you lapping your way through all 8" of it to leave your mark.

Kinda silly visualization....LOL..but I can see it!
Might actually have to go DO it now! ;-)

Oh it's so beautiful.....and people are messing with it with their shovels.
    RAWR!

  2. Hi Ronnie,

Blessed you are to have kept a childlike side to you. Snow just happens to bring the boy out of you :)
God, I would have loved to see you getting wacko in the first snowfall !
    Heeee !
I was tipped about to the snow (around last Fri, I think), seeing the foreign correspondant in DC (from a French TV station), behind a blanket of snow, and from a photo sent by a friend in Jersey. Of course, of course, I thought of Philly.

Hey, it's not illegal to romp in the white stuff or catch a snowflake on your tongue so... ENJOY !

Warm hugs to you, dude xxxx !

  5. Can't say I share your enthusiasm for the snow. Even as a kid I didn't care much for it but that's a long story. Anyways...it's nice to know that at least someone still enjoys it. XD I feel like this is a lame comment but I just woke up about five minutes ago so that's my excuse. (;

I know it must be beautiful to see it in person, because even your photos look MAGICAL!!!

I thought of YOU when we had our little snowfall last week because I know how excited you get about it, like me!

We're just like two little kids, aren't we Mel?

"Let it snow...let it snow....let it snow....."

Thanks for stopping by and sharing in my snow enthusiasm, dear lady!

  7. I only like snow on Christmas Cards or when I'm inside watching it through the window and I don't have to go out.

I hope you get your heart's desire and it snows heavy where you are Ron. x

    You said it, my friend!

One of the ladies I work with was laughing her tush off watching me bounce up and down and cheering!

I never realized how much I missed snow until I moved back east. The first time I actually saw snowfall again 8 years ago, I actually got all teary-eyed. I can't help it, it feels so magical to me

Hey, it's not illegal to romp in the white stuff or catch a snowflake on your tongue so... ENJOY !

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHA!

And thank god for that! Snow is legal and FREE!!!

    How are ya, bud?

    GREAT to see ya!

I know, not everyone shares my coo-coo nutty feelings about snow. I think if I were living in the suburbs and having to SHOVEL it, I may feel differently. But, living in a city it's much easier to enjoy because the city takes care of all that.

It makes the city look so magical.

Kinda like when you shake a snowglobe.

OK now that I got that out of the way...

I am doing the dance of joy for you! I know how excited you were to get some snow, I'm so happy that it finally fell!

I hope you get lots this winter. So much that they have to close the store and you get a SNOW DAY! (I've never had one of those. nothing here closes for snow. We'd never get anything done! lol)

Don't ya just love that expression, little fucker? I first started saying it when I lived in NYC. I freakin' love it!

Thank you, amigo! Even though we only got a little bit of snow last week, it still made me VERY happy! Supposedly, we are getting much more in January and Febuary - can't wait! However, I do hope we get some on Christmas day.

Yeah, I bet in Alaska there is no such thing as a SNOW DAY. About five years ago, we ended up getting a blizzard in November and the whole city shut down.

    Thanks for stopping by, Penny!

And thank you for sharing in my snow excitment!!!

Although, if you promise to slip some vodka in my mouth when I'm not looking, I'll go snowflake-catching with you.

But, then you have to take me to that nude beach in Florida where we can wear our Ray Bans and check out the merchandise.

I don't like it once it's on the ground

  19. Your nipples would really be in a twist around here. No snow, but the temps have been between 15 and 32 degrees for the past three days. I've been pissing and sniveling about how cold it's been and all the while thinking, "Man, Ron would love this stuff."

Remember, when you're playing in the fluffy stuff, stay away from the yellow snow!

Hell, today it went back up into the 70'S and I was pissing and moaning all day long....

    ..."I HATE THIS HEAT!!!"

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I have a feeling we won't be getting much snow until Jan. or Feb. and even March.

Now, it's just flurries with a temp of 17 & the winds have been so bad since yesterday that the windchill is -1 degrees right now. BRRRRRR! 27. I think it's wonderful you have that reaction to snow!!! I enjoy it, but only for the initial snowfall when it's all pretty and nice and then I wish it would magically disappear because the schools don't close unless it's a blizzard so I have to drive in it and no one else can or will stay home so the roads get all nasty and then there are piles of dirty snow everywhere and it doesn't melt 'til April. LOL
But it's nice for a few hours! :)

I soooo miss blogland and you and other sites I stopped at regularly. I keep saying that I'm going to update that page of mine and start being more dedicated.... hmmm.... a new years resolution?? LOL We'll see.

    You've been GREATLY missed!

In fact, last night when I was going through my Google Reader, I doubled checked just to see if you had I posted lately.

    How are ya, M?

Yes, agree...when it first snows in the city everything looks so sparkling white. Then, after a couple of days it all turns into black slush. And I LOVE getting SPLASHED by a passing taxi on my way to work - HA!

I don't think we're going to get any REAL snowfall until next month. And yes...it'll probably go on until April. Winter seems to be starting later and later, doesn't it?

Work hasn't been too bad just yet. The real madness won't start until next week.

    OY VEY!@##

  35. We got dumped on by that same storm. And I loved it! In about three weeks I will be hating winter but it was our first snow that stuck around and it was delightful. We even got a snow day out of it so the kids were just as happy as I was. Of course I have a teenage boy who lives in my house and eats all my food so I don't have to do any shoveling anymore. Unfortunately it was not the snowman making snow, too dry.
