This is the time of the year when static cling gives us an electrifying performance.

You know what I mean?

As soon as the outside temperature begins to drop into the colder digits, you begin to notice how your pants stick to your thighs and calves, causing them to bunch up and resemble the skin on a Chinese Shar-Pei dog. Or someone standing behind you on an escalator informs you that one of your socks is statically clinging to the outside of your butt; shamefully discovering it’s been there since you left the house that morning.

You may have also noticed while coiffing your hair how your mane will suddenly stand on end, magnetically attaching itself to the comb or brush, looking as though you just stuck a wet finger into an electrical outlet.

The other day as I was taking the pillow cases off my bed pillows, the static electricity was so intense it sounded like a 4th of July fireworks display….

….SNAP, CRACKLE, POP!

Not only did I have to wrestle in order to get the damn pillow cases off because they were clinging like GLUE, but I also got electrically SHOCKED like 43 times!

Then, while pressing the elevator button in my apartment building, I got the shock of all shocks. It was as if a bolt of lightening came down from the sky and went from the tip of my finger, through my entire body, and then out through my toes.

I felt like freakin’ Frankenstein!

Do you remember when you were a kid, how much fun it was to rub your socked feet over the carpet and then touch a mental door knob; getting shocked? And if you did it in a darkened room you would actually see sparks?

Or how hilarious it was to rub your feet over the carpet and then walk up from behind your 80 year-old grandmother as she was dozing off while watching her favorite soap opera, and SHOCK her on the back of her neck; laughing as she JUMPED?

(I know, I’m hideously evil, just say it)

This reminds me of a time when I went through a faze of torturing my younger brother, Tom.

You can read about it here and here.

Tom reads my blog, so be sure to tell him in your comments how sorry you feel for him because it’ll make him very so much better.

When we were kids, I use to love giving him static electricity shocks while he was sleeping.

After I was absolutely sure he was sound asleep, I would ever so quietly tip-toe into his bedroom while rubbing my feet along the carpet. And at the perfect moment, I would take one of my index fingers and slowing bring it closer and closer to the tip of his nose until it made contact….and then ZAP…zzzzzzit!

OMG, it was so hysterical to watch him FLY off the bed about ten feet while grabbing his nose, not knowing what the hell had just happened. And before I could get caught, I would run out of his room and hide behind the partially closed door; howling until I thought my sides would split.

Yeah, I know that might sound very mean, but hey, I was always bored as a kid.

So what better way did I have to not only have some fun, but also learn about electricity for my science class homework…..

I’m sorry to have shocked you, but you know how much I love ya, Tom!

Wishing you a static cling-free weekend everyone!

  1. Oooo Ron, as soon as I saw the heading to this post I thought of underwear! Why? Because mine seemed always to be electrically fired. The underwear, Ron, the underwear! Of course we don't get it now, washing products have put a stop to static electricity. But I do get a shock from the garage door, mostly because I could actually open it in the first place....hahaha

Message to Tom, you're brother is hidiously evil for tormenting you so much. He should be pinned against the wall and made to suffer some real electric shocks. If you want to borrow the underwear... but, no, I won't go there.

Bwhahaahahahahahha! You are tooooo funny! YES! YES! The underwear, the underwear! I totally forgot! There's nothing like that feeling of getting a ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZIT!...in the "lower region" Hahahahahahha!

For some reason, even with the washing products they have out now, I STILL get static cling and shocked. I end up having to put body lotion on my legs before putting on my dress pants or they stick to me like GLUE.

Thank you for your message to brother Tom, I'm sure he'll agree with you - HA!

Always great seeing ya, dear lady! Thanks so much for stopping by.

    Have a super weekend!

  7. Can I just say this, and I know I'm probably repeating the same thing your mother said, but honestly, Ron, that is no way to treat your younger brother!

But, what the hell, it is funny. Now.

I'm not a fan of static cling, when my skirts stick to my legs or my tights. Gives me the heebie jeebies.

Sure hope that Downey wrinkle release spray works for static.

Have an electrically awesome autumn weekend!! :)

Me too! Me too! The other day while walking down the street, I looked down at my legs and the cuffs of my dress pants where riding about 3 inches above my ankles. I could actually see my hairy little legs - HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Thanks oodles for stopping by, dear lady!

I'm sure I was never that mean to my sister... but let's not ask her though, just take my word for it.
Tom should get some revenge. I see him sneaking up behind you at an upcoming holiday dinner and doing something devilish! Go Tom, Go Tom!!

  13. Ron, I sure do remember the enjoyment of zapping someone, and being on the receiving end too. It's been a long time though. And since I still haven't grown up, this is a great reminder to try it again on some unsuspecting victim.

I have to say that I enjoyed going back and reading about you and Tom. You were quite the typical older brother though. I can relate, because my brother is 8 years younger, and the things I did to him. My oh my. LOL But we are very close now and like you, we might go weeks without talking, followed by going to 3 or 4 Phillies game in a month.

  14. Good Morning Matty~

Oh, me too! Even at 55 years old, I STILL get a CHARGE out of SHOCKING someone. It always brings out the "little devil" in me - HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Thanks for going back and reading my past posts about Tom and I. He and I look back on it now and laugh our asses off, however back then "I" was the only one laughing - tee, hee!

Isn't it great how as we growing older, our sibling relationships actually get deeper and stronger?

    Always great seeing you, neighbor!

Enjoy a wonderful weekend with your family!

My,my, you were a little stinker! But I am sure that we haven't even scratched the surface of your childhood recollections!!
But, I guess that is normal for a lot of people. We do bratty things and othere bratty things as a teen. Then little by little, grow into someone different.

Yes, I feel for you Tom!!
But, you are honest with your bloggers and friends, so I am likewise with you. I say how lucky you are! You have a great brother and a strong one at that. And he obviously loves you.

I have a brother and it is not the same. He dosen't even care that I exist. It is sad but I can't change his atttude.

    So,be grateful for each other!!

    Hugs to you both xxxx

  17. Ron your electrical magnetism shines through the blogosphere! I hate static cling of any kind. A little trick someone taught me is to use one of those bounce sheets and rub it on your hair, clothes or whatever is full of static. I have tried this and it works. what an hilarious post...today, if you were a REAL kid, you would be diagnosed as ADHD, ADD, OCD and too damned smart for your own britches. anyway, poor tom, i feel for him truly, this is for YOU TOM, because I detest static zaps and will go to all sorts of lengths to avoid it, such as NOT walking over nylon carpeting NO MATTER WHAT or never going out the door if it means I have to touch the doorknob. i know, you don't have to tell me how weird i am...

and darling, i love what you have done to the place...you are fixing things, hanging things up, organizing and putting away, wow, i can really see it! and it looks good...i really like the way you have organized your blog roll-something i so need to do but don't know how without one at a time, please do tell if you know a better way to copy and paste or something.

  22. LOL! I feel your pain (see what I did there? Yup) Anyhow, any time I kiss my wife goodbye during this time of year, we inevitably get shocked right on the lips. That's painful as shit! So now we're being classically conditioned to fear kissing one another... not good for marriage.

  23. Hellooooo Dearest Linda~

"did you know that i have a *fair to quite a lot* of visits from your blog now?"

Yaaaaaaay!!! I'm so glad to hear that, my friend! I'm happy my readers are stopping by your faaaaaabulous blog for a visit, because they too will be touched by your brilliance!

" i didn't even realize you were no longer showing up in my reader..."

OMG, that sometimes happens on my reader too! Someone will post and it NEVER shows!?! I've missed several posts from certain bloggers myself, so don't feel bad at all because it's happened to me too.

"if you were a REAL kid, you would be diagnosed as ADHD, ADD, OCD and too damned smart for your own britches."

HAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHA....Oh, how hilarious, because it's TRUE - I AM OCD, ADHD, and ADD - even as an adult!

Thank you for noticing the little changes on my blog. Yes, I've rearranged my blogroll and categorized them so my readers would have a better idea of what each blog offers. I think it helps readers who may have certain interests in certain things, such as, art, fashion, personal blogs, etc.

I also took some stuff off my sidebar to make it more clean and simple. I changed my header font, too.

BTW, the way I rearranged my blog roll was to select certain categories and then create separate link lists; pasting each blog link to each category. It took me some time to do it, but it was worth it because I like the way it turned out.

Thanks so much for stopping by, dearheart. Your comments are always enjoyed and appreciated!

  31. Yes Sir I do remember this when I was a kid, I was the oldest and Mom had baby blue deep shag carpet installed in the house which resulted in much deeper shocks for the younger siblings Ha Ha or else it just worked better than the old hardwood floors, maybe just having carpet did the trick but that's a whole other story I guess---anyways I have taken a spray bottle of water and lightly sprayed my carpet just to settle the static, doesn't do much for sock feet but it does keep you from shocking yourself when least expected.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Howdy Jimmy~

"I was the oldest and Mom had baby blue deep shag carpet installed in the house which resulted in much deeper shocks for the younger siblings."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....that's toooo funny! But, I didn't realize you got deeper shocks with shag carpet?!

And it's ironic that you mentioned SHAG because I had blue/green shag carpet in my bedroom and thought I was the coolest kid on the block! In the late 60's early 70's shag carpet was so in fashion. Also, inflatable furniture, remember?

I'm going to take your suggestion and lightly spray my carpet with water to see if does the trick!

Thanks for stopping by, buddy! Hope you and Cindy are having an awesome weekend!

I know this happens other places but I don't remember doing this in CA. It's so cold and dry here. I hate it. I'm always afraid I'm going to set fire to myself when I need to pump gas.
