Preface: This post is not intended to blanket all doctors because I know there are many medical professionals out there who genuinely care.

---------------------------------------------

I didn’t share this story with you earlier because I was quite upset, and I know myself better than to speak before I’ve had time to process an unpleasant experience.

Question: What happens to certain doctor’s bedside manners?

Could it be that some doctors forget them the longer they practice? Or could it be that some never really had them to begin with?

By bedside manners, I mean remembering to treat their patients with human compassion instead of only relating to them as something physical.

I realized that doctors are schooled to treat the body, however some of them could greatly use additional training on how to treat the soul inside the body.

As most of you recall last summer, I was treated by an oral surgeon who drained a tooth abscess I encountered. But, what I didn’t totally share with you back then was the manner in which I was treated.

I was referred to him by another dentist who could not perform the surgery, and he had forewarned me that the oral surgeon could be rather gruff, but that he was an excellent doctor.

Gruff is not the word.

When he saw the condition of my tooth he immediately went into a ferocious sermon about how serious this abscess was, and how could I have let this happen by not coming in sooner.

I mean come on, the guy has been an oral surgeon for umpteen years with diplomas and accolades decorating his office walls, so you can’t tell me he hadn’t seen an abscess that was ever bad before.

He barked out his plan of action as if he were a drill sergeant in the army; scaring me to death about how by him performing this surgery, I could possibly be left with permanent nerve damage and a scar on my skin.

I understand that a doctor is obligated to warn you of the possible side effects to any surgical procedure, however I don’t think they’re obligated to tell you in such a harsh tone. He actually told me that my condition was so serious, he should send me to a hospital.

Now mind you, I was in NO physical pain nor did I feel sick. When I told him that I had been self-treating this abscess with alternative natural medicine and energy work, that’s when he really got angry. As if I was foolish enough to believe that anything but traditional medical treatment would be of assistance.

The way in which I was being disrespected, I should have stood up and walked out of his office. However he had me so scared and confused, I felt stuck there; with no alternative other than to let him do it.

I opted for a local anesthetic rather than a general because I didn’t have anyone who could walk me home after the surgery. My friends were at work, so I didn’t have anyone to call that afternoon.

I also knew that by choosing a local, I would possibly feel pain. And I’m sure this procedure would have been tender regardless of who did the surgery, but the manner in which this guy worked on my tooth was like he was doing it out of a feud he had with illness.

Being someone who practices energy work, I am very sensitive to someone’s touch because I can feel their personal energy. Deeply. And this guy had one of the most disturbing energies I have ever felt.

He was extremely rough; working like a jackhammer. It felt as if I had barely any Novocain at all. He never once asked me if I was in pain, nor did he seem to care. He was so far removed from any human feelings, that all he was concerned about was removing this abscess because it was pissing him off.

I could tell from his touch, he was a doctor who only knew how to treat illness one way. Attacking it.

Thank god he had a compassionate and caring dental assistant working with him, because she was the one who got me through the pain by telling me to breathe deeply, and that the procedure was almost over.

After he was done, he continued to bark orders about how I wouldn’t be out of the woods for 24-hours because the infection could possibly spread through my entire body; making me seriously ill. In that case, I was to rush myself to the nearest hospital emergency room.

Again, I realize it’s a doctors job to tell you the truth, however it is the manner in which he told me that was the issue.

He quickly scribbled a prescription for penicillin and pain killers on a pad, and then added his cell phone number to call him if I had any concerns.

As soon as I got home, I literally broke down and bawled. And not because I was in any pain, but because I could still feel this man’s imprint which made me sicker than any abscess.

It took me days to feel normal again.

I debated on whether or not to call him back and tell him how I felt, but opted not to because I wanted no further contact with this doctor. Besides, I had learned my lesson.

The lesson to always follow my intuition. And that if this should ever happen to me again, walk out.

Did he successfully remove the abscess in medical terms?

Yes, he did.

However, let me go back to what the other dentist said…..

“he had forewarned me that the oral surgeon could be rather gruff, but that he was an excellent doctor.”

Really? An excellent doctor?

Well, allow me to share something with you, excellent doctor…..

“Medicine is not only a science; it is also an art. It does not consist of compounding pills and plasters; it deals with the very processes of life, which must be understood before they may be guided.”

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. sorry about this ron, if people would follow one rule: treat people the way you want to be treated, this world would be such a better place.

i usually write letters to the offender, their momma and the mayor when i'm disrespected...and take my business elsewhere.

  2. I am so sorry you had to go through that
    what an asshole!
gruff does not cover behavior like that

I'm sure you probably just want to put it all behind you but you can write a letter to the medical board of your state, they always follow up
I did that once when a doctor treated me horribly

I love you and I'm glad it worked out for your health but I'm so sorry you were treated so badly

  3. You talked about a very important issue dear Ron. Usually it is about so much more than just the body when we seek help. Only too few physicians really capture that, or maybe they do but do not seem to have the time for "the human encounter". I have found a treating doc who seems to be in tune with her patients... most of the time at least.

  4. ...There has to be somewhere you can report this fellow! No one should be treated as you were and I can't believe that someone with an attitude such as that is even still practicing. I also would tell your regular dentist that "gruff" is an understatement and that maybe he should rethink this person as a referral. Just sad.

...You sparked my curiosity with this "energy work" you mentioned. At the risk of sounding like a big dummy, what is it?

...What a story Ron - I felt like I was there! *shudders* Just glad you made it thru it and that everything is okay.

    ...Blessings... :o)

  5. Jeez, the whole episode sounds horrendous. I agree with you that a realistic bedside manner is essential and that man should be hauled over the coals for not having one. It's not that we want 'Awww poor baby' treatment but a little verbal kindness wouldn't come amiss. All the doctors I've seen, inclduing my own general practicitioner, have been ace. They have and do talk to me in such a way as to instil confidence, thank the Lord. I've been down the abscess scenrio a few times and Oooh I don't half remember the Anyway, I take it you no longer suffer with after effects from that procedure? Have a brilliant weekend with no more nightmares. Hugs.

  6. Hey V~

"if people would follow one rule: treat people the way you want to be treated, this world would be such a better place."

Exactly! Like I shared, I know there are many medical professionals out there who treat their patients with the utmost respect and compassion. Obviously, this guy isn't one of them.

I did contact the original dentist and inform him of my treatment. I and YES...I will take my business elsewhere.

Thanks for stopping by, girl! Have a super-duper weekend!

  7. Good Morning Lady Dianne~

"gruff does not cover behavior like that"

    HA! You said it!!!!

Yes, I had serveral people suggest the same thing (writing a letter/reporting him), however after this experience I wanted no futher contact or interaction with him. I learned my lesson - to follow my intuition - always.

Yet, I did contact the original dentist and express my feelings.

Thank you so much for your support and kind words, dear lady! You're a doll!

    Love ya too! Bunches!

    Have a FAB weekend!

P.S. please give Hope a smooch from Uncle Ronnie - Mwah!

I agree, and it's ashame because like you shared....usually it is so much more than just the body when we seek help. Healing involves the WHOLE being.

Soooo glad to hear you found a great doc who is intuned with her patients. That's such a blessing!!!

Thank you for stopping by, beautiful lady! Always a joy. Always appreciated!

"No one should be treated as you were and I can't believe that someone with an attitude such as that is even still practicing."

Yes, I agree....isn't it freaking amazing? But, he's such an EXCELLENT doctor - HAHHAHAAHHAHA!

I chose not to have anymore interaction or contact with this man, however I did VOCALIZE my feelings to the original dental office about my treatment. Absolutely.

"...You sparked my curiosity with this "energy work" you mentioned. At the risk of sounding like a big dummy, what is it?"

I practice two forms of energy work which I've been certified in. One, is Reiki (light-touch energy balancing work), and Foot Reflexology which involves using pressure points on the feet to assist the body in rebalancing, rejuvenating, and in the healing process. Both, are excellent and quite effective. And I think this dentist was pissed because he could see that they DID help to keep the infection localized. I was literally in no pain, and he couldn't believe it - HA!

If you wish to know more about these forms of energy work, you can go to my other blog (which I no longer post on) and read about them if you'd like.

    The link is: www.solework.wordpress.com

You can also google both energy modalities, where you'll find more info.

Thanks sooooooooo much for stopping by, dearest lady! Your comments are always such so enjoyed and appreciated!

    Have a MARVI weekend!

You GO, dear lady! And I agree, it's not that we want "Awww poor baby treatment but a little verbal kindness wouldn't be amiss. I mean going to a doctor can sometimes be a very vulnerable and scary experience, so a little human compassion and patience would make the experience so much more doable.

"All the doctors I've seen, inclduing my own general practicitioner, have been ace. They have and do talk to me in such a way as to instil confidence, thank the Lord.'

Oh, GOOD FOR YOU!!!! That's awesome to hear! Like I shared, I know there are plenty of great medical professionals (which I've had in the past), so I know they're out there! I had the most AWESOME dentist while I was still living in Florida, who I wanted to take with me when I moved back north. He was so compassionate, gentle, and caring.

OMG...aren't tooth abscess the WORST? UGH!

No, I no longer suffer with after effects from the procedure. I had a temporary numbness for the first month or so, but I used my energy work to help restore the feeling to the nerves. I also had a bruise which is no longer there.

Thanks oodles for stopping by, Valerie! Always a joy to read your comments!

    Have a brilliant weekend!

  11. My first instinct is that you should print out this post and send it to him so he can see the kind of imprint he leaves on his patients but on second thought, he'd probably be oblivious and think you were talking about some other doctor or worse yet... not care!

  13. So sorry you went through this! Some drs really need to learn compassion, human emotional needs as well as phyical ones. I've found that many medical docs are intimidated by holistic medicine. I know my father's oncologist told him she didn't even want to see him to leave and never come back...via her secretary at his follow up visit that his scans proved him to be cancer free by not follwing her advice of surgery and by using holistic means...yes, she did that rather than finding out what he did so that she might could farther science and hlep others or even being happy that he was cures...she was peeved!

  14. Hi SuziCate~

"Some drs really need to learn compassion, human emotional needs as well as phyical ones. I've found that many medical docs are intimidated by holistic medicine."

You said it, my friend! MANY medical docs are extrememly intimidated by holistic medicine.

"she didn't even want to see him to leave and never come back...via her secretary at his follow up visit that his scans proved him to be cancer free by not follwing her advice of surgery and by using holistic means..."

Why am I not surprised to hear that? By the similar reaction this oral surgeon gave me, I'm sure she WAS pissed. So was he.

Wouldn't it be great if both medical and holistic practitioners learned how to work TOGETHER?

And a HUGE bravo to your father for being successful in treating his cancer with holistic medicine!!

    You GO, man!

Thanks for stopping by, Suzi! And thank you for you words of support!

  15. How awful! I'm so sorry to hear you had such an experience Ron. The old saying "The difference between Doctors and God is that God doesn't think he's a doctor" is so true for some!

I am thankful that both my GP (doctor) and my dentist are caring, gentle people - it makes all the difference as you know. I have only once had a run-in with a 'gruff' doctor and I stood my ground and gave as good as I got - he soon changed his tune!

  17. Ron, first off, happy Friday. This is an excellent post and one which many people can probably relate to.

It’s unfortunate that there are some doctors out there who had no bedside manner. I mean, nobody is saying that they have to be Patch Adams. But at least being able to relate to the patients and talk to them is a start. This has often made me wonder if there are people skills classes in medical school or not.

While I could cite 100 examples about crappy doctors I’ve encountered who were either rough or incapable of communicating to their patients, I will share a story about the best doctor I’ve ever had.

This actually happened not too long ago. I had been feeling off and went to my family physician. They ran some standard tests and one happened to come back abnormal. And they referred me to a specialist – and this was a type of medicine I had never heard of and knew nothing about.

I called and they couldn’t see me for a month, because I was a new patient. I was freaking out, not knowing what, if anything, was wrong with me. So I called the office and asked if I could talk to a doctor before my appointment.

Not only did the doctor call me and answer all of my questions. But she even went out of her way to do some additional research for me and drop it in the mail for me to review in preparation for my appointment. And when I got there, the actual doctor came in and did all of my pre-questions. She said that she likes to take the time to personally ask the questions and not have a medical assistant do it. She basically said that she didn’t care what the hospital said (I was at the biggest one in the state) and that even though they tried to force her to rush through patients, she just wouldn’t do it. She explained everything to me and ran some additional tests. As it turns out, I am fine and the other test was a false positive. And rather than her staff, knowing how worried I was, she personally called to tell me that my test was fine. I was just exhausted – nothing more.

But I’ll tell you what – I can out of that appointment with a new appreciation for good doctors and those who truly care. So they are out there, Ron.

  18. Hi Ronnie,

Here I am with my eyes opening wider and wider as I read about your ordeal. OMG...
We knew about your pain at that time and your friend congratulated you and pat you on the back for being so strong.
Well, the pain was worse than the physical one.

I do agree that knowlege & know how is what makes them go to them. But, if they treat their patients as "bodies" and forget that they are human beings?

Can you imagine the rage that may be inside him? Its like his hands wanted to scream out "kill the abcess!!". I cannot imagine being married to him.

OK; he KO'd the abcess, but he still has bad vibes. A very far cry from the dental surgeon that did my wisdom tooth extraction years back. Doc barely spoke to me. In operating room, there was a TV; mine had a tennis game on. When Doc could, he stopped & glances at the match & chatted about it with the asst. I was like a lump on the chair...grrrr.

Big hugs to you, babe. xoxo

  19. On behalf of my girlfriend who is also a dental surgeon, I am so disgusted that the 'Gruff' actually told you to come in sooner !

You could file a complaint with your State Board of Dentistry by sending them a copy of this blog post. They worst they can do to him is re-train him in dealing with patients in certain situations - it may or may not cover politeness.

  20. Hey Constant Complainer~

    Happy Friday to you too!

Thank you soooooo much for sharing your experience on this post, buddy!

Wow....how WONDERFUL! And I'm so glad to hear your tests turned out to be false positive - YAHOOOOOO!!!

And yes, I DO realize there are excellent doctors out there because I've had them too. And not only were they excellent in their technical aspects, but they were also caring, considerate, and compassionate. I had a dentist in Florida who had an incredibly ability to put you at ease with any procedure he would do. I trusted him to do anything, because he worked slowly and gently. The guy was awesome!

"This has often made me wonder if there are people skills classes in medical school or not."

I have no idea if they have classes such as those, but I do think some doctors may have that ability naturally, while others may not.

Again, thank you so much for stopping by and sharing, CC! Much enjoyed! Much appreciated!

Yup...it sure was! And I didn't even share every single thing that happened because it would have been an extremely long post, but you get the jist of it.

I did explain to my friend (privately) what I had gone through last summer, so she already knows pretty much all of this.

"I do agree that knowlege & know how is what makes them go to them. But, if they treat their patients as "bodies" and forget that they are human beings? "

Exactly, Barb! And like I shared, I DO know that not ALL docs are like this because I've had some great ones!

    HHAHAHAHAHAHA! Me neither!

Yes, all I could feel from this man was anger and rage. He seemed like such an unhappy human being. I could feel his vibes, BIG TIME!

  22. Greetings Jaffer~

    Great to see ya!

Thank you, buddy. This happened about two-three days before the 4th of July LONG weekend so no dentist offices were even open, and I was not about to take myself to the emergency room and pay the astronomical fee for a visit. I honestly didn't feel sick nor was I in any pain, yet I knew I needed to see a dentist as soon as I could get into one. And even if I could have gotten in to see a dentist, I still didn't need to hear that I SHOULD HAVE COME IN SOONER!

"The worst they can do to him is re-train him in dealing with patients in certain situations - it may or may not cover politeness."

HA! You're right! Thank you for your suggestion, however it's over and done. I just wanted to tell him what I thought in this vent, and I did. So, I'm happy. I learned my lesson.

  23. I remember reading about your ordeal, but it would seem you did not share the bulk of it. Not that I wish ill on anyone, but people like that need to be struck with some kind of crisis in order to step out of their white towers and see the real world. That may be his job, but patients are what pay his bills. I wouldn't bet he would get much repeat business with a work ethic like that. The best you can do is will on him some self-knowledge of how he treats people. It might shake him to the core at the pearly gates.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Greetings Katherine~

No, I definitely didn't share the bulk of it when I first explained my abscess ordeal, back in July. I really wasn't ready to express it fully until I had time to process it so I could vent it with some sort of intelligence, instead of a screaming WITCH - HA!

"That may be his job, but patients are what pay his bills."

  25. Oh geeze.

I'm so sorry that was your experience. I mean, it's bad enough having something wrong with your body-- Personally, I'm not one who frequents physicians. Probably a bit of a control issue (or denial) on my part. I save going until I've exhausted all resources. And by then, it's evident there's a problem that requires their intervention. (Yes--sometimes this method of operation works for me, sometimes it works against me.)
And go figure I'm a bit sassy and demanding--afterall, it's my body, tyvm.

I've fired a physician or two. Mostly in the oncology field cuz there's where the bulk of my interactions have happened. I can deal with a one time shot ordeal--but when I know I'm going back to be 'served' by them again......game ON.

My experience with physicians hasn't been all that great. Bit of confusion over who's G-d and who's not. Maybe in some cases it's a 'size of the penis' issue--dunno and don't care? LOL I do care that I'm there to be served and treated. And I know how I allow myself to be treated....and what I won't allow.

Yes. I've walked from a few appointments. Some because I was looking for an excuse, some because they gave me one..silly people.
And I've been served by a few rotten apples because I was paralyzed and tried to convince myself I could manipulate a different response from the 'healer'. (sometimes that works....sometimes notsomuch....)

I DO know that I have an oncologist that rocks. I think enough of him that I gave him a placque for successfully poisoning this Jew (and the Jew living to talk about it!). It hangs in his office. The fella has a good sense of humor--pretty much required after working with me for a good 15 years. I think I fetched him up good. LOLOL

We have a relationship. I'm clear he's the physician--he has the expertise and knowledge. He's clear that I'm his patient and that it's my body...my life....my choice. I recall very early in the game, pointing at myself and tellin' doc:

    "PATIENT! HELLO?!?! We're called that for a reason......apparently doctors need that constant fricking reminder--PATIENT. That's what's required, that's what's demanded, that's what's gonna happen."

    ((((((((((((( Ron ))))))))))))))

Frankly, I think you shoulda bit that jazzacks finger.

  26. Gooooood Morning Mel~

I'm sitting here having my morning coffee while reading your faaaaaaabulous comment, so full of wonderful insight and humor; enjoying the hell out of it!

"Maybe in some cases it's a 'size of the penis' issue--dunno and don't care? LOL"

Bwhahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Brilliant, dear lady! Simply, brilliant!

"Frankly, I think you shoulda bit that jazzacks finger."

Bwhahahahaaahahahahahaahahaha! Yeah, I SHOULD have, you're right!

"I save going until I've exhausted all resources. And by then, it's evident there's a problem that requires their intervention."

I'm a bit that way myself (Libra, perhaps?). I will always use natural methods first, but then if I see it's not totally effective, I will then take myself to a medical doctor, for sure. Luckily, I've not had too many issues which required that. To me, the ideal situation would be to combined both methods, however many traditional practictioners are not too keen on that. It's either, or.

Your relationship with your oncologist sounds wonderful!

"He's clear that I'm his patient and that it's my body...my life....my choice."

Brava, Mel! And you're sooooooo right!

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing on this post, dear lady! Muchly enjoyed, muchly appreciated!

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

  28. I'm so sorry he was such a jerk to you! You do need to go with your gut but we've all been there. Don't beat yourself up about it.

I had this happen to me years ago when I was 20-something. I went to an ear, nose, throat guy and told him that I felt dizzy and he mocked me. I called him an asshole and left.

We have this conversation with docs in our medical practice all the time. Somehow they think it's acceptable to be rude or short with people and think nothing of making people wait 2 hours to see them. "because we're doctors!" It becomes even more disenchanting when you see things from the inside.

But as you said, there are some awesome, caring doctors out there and we can't discount them.

    Have a great weekend, Ron!

  29. OMG ron!!! how terrible for you, i can only imagine, having never been treated really rough, just slightly impatiently, by an oral surgeon...it do feel they are a very weird bunch, choosing what field they go into and all...i am just glad you got through it all without having to go back and didn't have any more trouble...yes, it's always best to follow your intuition, that i have learned from these past several years and seeing several docs, some are good and some, very very bad. xoxoxox

  30. Ron, are you an anti-dentite?!

    (God, I miss Seinfeld!).

And, I'm kidding. What a horrible experience. Doctors are supposed to help people, not treat them like second-class citizens or scold them for their improprieties. What a jackal.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ouch! That sounds awful. It's true, not all doctors are good doctors. And it takes more than brains to be a good doctor. My Mom is a doctor and I think her patients love her because she's such a good person, they feel close to her immediately.
Glad to hear your tooth is better, though.

  32. Hey Chrissy girl~

Yeah, I know what you mean when you said he MOCKED you. Kinda like the oral surgeon did to me when I told him I had been treating the abscess with natural remedies. You'd have sworn he thought I was a WITCH DOCTOR or something - HAHAHAHAHAHA!

And good for you for calling him in asshole. That's what I felt like saying to this guy!

"Somehow they think it's acceptable to be rude or short with people and think nothing of making people wait 2 hours to see them. "because we're doctors!""

    Yup!

  33. Hello Dear Linda~

"i am just glad you got through it all without having to go back and didn't have any more trouble."

Me too! Like I shared, he did successfully remove the abscess, however left me with a VERY bad taste in my mouth - HA!

I know you've had your share of experiencing various doctors in the past yourself. So, I know you KNOW what I'm talking about.

Thank you for stopping by, dear friend! Hope you're having a great weekend and feeling much better!

"Doctors are supposed to help people, not treat them like second-class citizens or scold them for their improprieties."

    You said it, buddy!

And jackal, that's the PERFECT word to describe him....PERFECTO!

As always, it's so great to see your comments, Mark! Thanks for the laughs! Hope you're enjoying a faaaaaabulous weekend!

  35. Greetings Alexandra~

Welcome! Thanks for stopping by and sharing a comment. It's nice to meet you!

"And it takes more than brains to be a good doctor."

You said it! I think in ANY profession where you're interacting with the public, it takes more than brains to do a good job. It takes understanding people.

"My Mom is a doctor and I think her patients love her because she's such a good person, they feel close to her immediately."

    Applause...applause...applause!

Oh, how WONDERFUL! Your mom sounds AWESOME! And I think that's the 'key'....making your patients feel comfortable, so that they trust you. I know a female dentist who I blog with who is A LOT like your mom. She TRULY cares about her patients.

Please feel free to drop by anytime. You're always welcomed!

    Enjoy your weekend, Alexandra!

  36. I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. Just because a doctor can treat doesn't mean that he or she can heal. This is one of those situations in which having someone with you to be your advocate would have been ideal. Unfortunately, it's not always possible. Glad you made it to the other side in one piece.

  37. Hey Jen~

"Just because a doctor can treat doesn't mean that he or she can heal."

So true! Healing means so much more.

"This is one of those situations in which having someone with you to be your advocate would have been ideal."

Absolutely! I knew this was a very serious condition and felt really scared if I didn't do something immediately, so I chose for him to do it. Like I shared, he DID take care of the abscess, however his bedside manner was not at all caring.

I did leaned something from this though.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, my friend! Hope you're having a great weekend!

  38. My goodness Ron, I so hate that you were treated this way by a "medical professional", yes they have an obligation to treat your symptoms and to warn you of the side affects, education on preventing future problems and such but in Gods name they have no right to treat anyone in this manner whether they are a "Gruff" person or not.

I would discuss it with my regular Dentist and ask him if this is a person he should be referring his patients to or not.

Yes follow your gut and if you are ever that uncomfortable anywhere again you do have the option of walking out the door.

Glad you got this off your chest so to say Buddy, a Great Sunday to you.

"but in Gods name they have no right to treat anyone in this manner whether they are a "Gruff" person or not."

    My sentiments exactly, buddy!

Yes, I did inform the original dentist of my treatment and asked that he seriously reconsider refering patients to him in the future.

I learned my lesson to ALWAYS follow my gut in the future - AMEN!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, Jimmy!

Hope you and Cindy are having FAB Sunday!

X to you and the Mrs.!

  40. Argh! Reading this made me quite mad. What's up with some so-called "professionals"? Treatment like is is more widespread that we care to admit. I myself once encountered a doctor who treated me similarly. I simply got up and walked out. Sure, I lost out on my $15 co-pay, but I was okay with that. The next day I set up an appointment with another doctor and was lucky enough to get one that treated me as a "patient" and not a "problem".

Again, this post really upset me. Hope you manage to find a better doctor the next time you need one. Oh, and write this guy up! There are placed you can rate doctors online. Go to it! :-)

  41. Hey Herman~

"Treatment like is is more widespread that we care to admit."

You're right, because my mother has had similar experiences with several doctors in Florida.

I should have stood up and walked out, you're absolutely correct. However, I was very scared and confused because he made it sound that if I didn't take care of this THAT MOMENT, I would be in serious trouble. Trust me, I learned my lesson. If this should ever happen again, I will walk out and take myself to DRUG STORE before I ever allow anyone to treat me like this.

Thanks so much for letting me know about places online where you can rate doctors. I will google that and see what I come up with.

Thanks for stopping, buddy! And thanks for your supportive words and concern.

Hope you had a SUPER weekend!

X to you and the family!

  42. Oh, Ron! I am sooo sorry this happened to you. I remember back when you had this procedure done - but you never mentioned how horribly you were treated. And, I am *LIVID* after reading this!

There is NO justifiable reason to talk to someone in that manner. Ever.

As a Libra, I am also very in-tune with other people's energies, and clearly his was off the charts with pure evil.

    UGH!

    Hugs to you my friend.

  43. Hey Meleah~

Awwww...thanks, girl! Your words of support are so appreciated.

Yeah, I really didn't want to speak about the specifics of this back then, until I was ready to share it in a clear and not-totally angry way. It helped to write this out and share it.

"As a Libra, I am also very in-tune with other people's energies, and clearly his was off the charts with pure evil."

Aren't we LIBRA something on picking up on people's energy?????

Yup, that pretty much sums his energy up...pure evil.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, my friend!

    (((( Meleah ))))

    X ya!

  44. Ron, I am so sorry you had to go thru all of that. I'm sure you just want to let it all go now and move on but it really wouldn't be a bad idea to write that office and tell them how awful your experience was. He might be a brilliant doctor but I don't feel that gives him the right to act so horribly. Good manners CAN be taught! Sure, everyone has a different personality, and it's not like you would have expected him to sit and hold your hand and whisper in your ear, but his tone and aggressiveness was completely uncalled for. If he was having a bad day, hey, you could maybe understand, but you were warned he was very gruff so obviously his reputation preceeds him and that's not cool, especially in his profession.
Okay, so he took care of the issue at hand for you and that was the goal. But NO, he's definitely not an 'excellent' doctor because to really excel would be to have command over his ability to deal with his patients compassionately as well as medically.

I hope you don't have to ever deal with anyone like that again!!!

  45. Hi Crystal Chick~

I did call the referring doctor's office and explain my treatment to let them know, and that I would not be returning. I have also looked into online rating for doctor's, as Herman recommended. However, I want no further contact or communcation with the oral surgeon whatsoever.

    I TOTALLY agree with you...

"his tone and aggressiveness was completely uncalled for."

    And...

"he's definitely not an 'excellent' doctor because to really excel would be to have command over his ability to deal with his patients compassionately as well as medically."

    You said it!

Believe it or not, writing this post out really helped me to say/clear what I wanted to say; expressing how I was treated and how I felt. Amen.

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts and feelings, my friend. Much appreciated!

    {{{ hug }}}}

Hope you're having a super week!

  46. this story makes me uncomfortable. that man is a bully, plain and simple. I don't do well with bullies. They make me feel puny and disposable. Which is what they want, actually. Your resolve to retain your power and remove yourself from the bully's presence is a lesson I would also like to take from this story. Thanks for sharing. xoxo Diane

  47. Hi Diane~

"this story makes me uncomfortable. that man is a bully, plain and simple. I don't do well with bullies."

Yes, he was. And normally I retaliate a bully, but in this case I just wanted to remove myself from him completely, because in honesty....I knew that even if I spoke out to him, he wouldn't understand or even care. Sad.

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady!
