---------------------------------------------------------------------

I’ve often heard it said that intuition is a female characteristic. What I take that to really mean is not female in the sense of gender, but rather female in the sense of feminine energy. I’ve no doubt that most females are more naturally in touch with their intuition, because they seem to go with their feelings rather than always logic. But, I also believe that many males are the same. I know a lot of guys who are very much in touch with their intuitive feelings. And after all, we each have a bit of feminine and masculine energy within us, regardless of our gender.

I truly believe we are all born with the ability of intuition, it’s just a matter of learning how to recognize it.

And not only us humans, but also animals. In fact, animals are probably the most in tuned with intuition because they don’t analyze like we humans do, they just take it as truth.

It is also my belief that intuition comes from a higher source (call it God, the Universe, or whatever you believe is a greater power), and is fed through our feelings. My intuition has saved me many times from making some not-so-good-choices, yet that doesn’t mean I’ve always followed it 100% of the time. No, I’ve often struggled by going against it; only to discover that it was correct. I’ve sometimes had to learn the hard way.

For me, the guidance I receive from my intuition isn’t always delivered in the same way. Sometimes what I hear will be very subtle and quiet, yet other times it’ll be loud and clear as if something inside is saying, “Warning! Warning!” I’ve had this happen to me several times while walking down a city street at night, and immediately turned around and went down another street.

Not only has my intuition warned me about something negative, but it has also guided me to see something against my own sense of initial judgment. Such as, meeting someone for the first time who may have appeared rather gruff on the surface, however my intuition told me, “This guy/gal is actually a very good person, it’s just that they don’t show it outwardly.”

Sometimes the challenge in following my instinct is in my ability to trust it when something appears to be totally illogical at first. Like, when an opportunity for a job arises which sounds like it would be ideal, while my inner gut is telling me, “NO.”

This happened to me many, many years ago when a job became available that sounded right up alley. The perks were awesome and the salary was much more than I was making. So, I updated my resume and was getting ready to email it to the company, though this nagging feeling in my gut kept making me hesitate. I felt that even though the job was ideal, somehow it would only be temporary.

And do you know what I found out? The person who got that job was laid off in six months for reasons of severe cutbacks within the company.

I believe in intuition, wholeheartedly. Yet, is there any provable scientific logic as to where it comes from or if it can be relied upon as truth?

No.

But, I’ve never needed a logical reason because the proof has always been in the outcome.

Whether I followed it or not.

  2. Good morning, Ron. Interesting post. I'm sure intuition is a kind of second sight. The only logic I can attach to it is the fact that quite often things are not what they seem and the subconscious knows it. My pal and I experienced shared situations - the same dream (honestly), waking up at night knowing either one of us needed the other, etc. She was the one hubs No.1 went to for an excuse when he wanted out of our marriage... and guess what, I KNEW. Definitely a sixth sense. Have a brill week and don't get walking up the wrong street...lol.

That's freaking AMAZING! I've never had an intuitive experience like that.

"She was the one hubs No.1 went to for an excuse when he wanted out of our marriage... and guess what, I KNEW."

OH. MY. GOD.!!!! Yeah, you DEFINITELY have a very keen sixth sense! You GO, girl!

Good point! And perhaps intuition is channeled through our subconscious.

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing on this post, dear lady. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

    Have a flawless week!

  7. I 100% believe in intuition. My boss has always told me that you should always go with your first feeling, because that is your intuition speaking. If you wait, then your mind comes pollutes that idea with all these other doubts and thoughts and you completely deviate from that original intuition.

she's really right. I can't tell you how many times i wish i'd of gone with my first thought.

  11. Amen Ron, Going with your gut feeling always seems to work out for the best, isn't it funny that we sometimes feel the right decision but yet reason ourselves into the complete opposite, and in the end say "I wish I had gone with my gut"

Yup! I can't tell you HOW many times I've done that myself. As Blunt shared, our first intuitive feeling is usually right on.

  17. good morning ron, happy monday morning to you! ;)

great post today and yes, i agree, i have known too many women who did not honor their intuitive gifts and plenty of men who did. it is a universal capacity we all have been endowed with. unfortunately today it is not honored like it once was ... people think you're crazy to use your intuition to guide you so most just keep it to themselves. bravo to you for coming out and stating the facts about it....wonderful posts, i love these posts where you talk about your more serious or contemplative side. xoxoxox

  18. Hello Linda~

Glad you enjoyed. I felt more reflective today, especially after being COUPED UP IN THIS DAMN APARTMENT ALL WEEK! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

"it is a universal capacity we all have been endowed with."

I know that YOU are very much in tuned to your intuition and are also very sensitive to energy, therefore I know you understand what I'm talking about here. I think most artist and creative-type people naturally are, because we're open to the Source.

Like I shared, I don't ALWAYS follow my intuition 100% of the time, because my mind will sometimes get in the way. However, I do believe in it wholeheartedly.

Much thanks for stopping by, my dear friend! Hope you and hubby had a beautiful time celebrating your anniversary!

  19. You are so right! I did go against my intuition once. When it was screaming out at me "DON'T DO THIS" I went ahead and did it, and the results were bad. I carried that scar for a long time. Not of what happened so much as the fact that I ignored my intuition and went ahead anyway.

  20. Hey Babs~

"I carried that scar for a long time. Not of what happened so much as the fact that I ignored my intuition and went ahead anyway."

I know EXACTLY what you mean, because I too felt the same way about something I did against my intuition. Not necessarily what happened because of it, but because I was angry at myself for not listening. I think that was harder to get over than the 'happening.'

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing on thi post, Babs! Always enjoyed and appreciated!

  21. Hey Ron
Wise post today my friend. Intuition is very real, but as many have noted, for whatever reason we often don't listen to it. Shortly after getting home from Africa, I was offered a job teaching English in Japan. It was a dream job, as I had wanted to continue travelling & this would take me to a new land & an opportunity to get immersed in a new and foreign culture. Something in my gut kept telling me no though. It just didn't feel right, but I kept fighting it thinking it was what I had wanted to do. Ultimately, I dragged my feet, got a job at a lodge to raise funds for Japan & met my future husband. Gut won and Japan faded from my radar with no regrets from me AT ALL.

See! Isn't it amazing how GUT knows? There was a good reason why you dragged your feet, good for you!!!

And you also shared somthing very wise in your story. I have found that often what I 'think' I want, is not always what is needed - what is best for me. However, intuition always knows.

Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing this wonderful story, Katherine. You've added much to this post!

Hope you had a super Monday!

  23. Well said! I tend to equate intuition with common sense. But there are those times when your gut tells you one thing and your brain tells you another. It's during those times that I tend to take heed to my gut and re-examine the situation before moving forward.

It's those that charge head first without paying attention to the innate intuition that I believe we all have that tend to get into the most trouble. Coming to trust that intuition and learning from it is the first step to a better world.

Right now my intuition is telling me to open the refrigerator and grab that new carton of ice cream. If you'll excuse me...

Oh, hey...did you update the logo at the top of your page? Sorry if I'm late to the party on this one, but lookin' sharp!

  25. well written and i couldn't agree more. intuition, doubts, warnings are there for a reason. if i get a nagging feeling about something, i'm usually right. some times i will even have a dream about something that clarifies a matter - our mind and body knows when something doesn't feel right or when it does even if sometimes we're too stupid to listen to them.

    ReplyDelete
  26. We are so on the same wavelength. God, I wish we could get together for a glass of wine and just hang out this week. I was just thinking about this very thing on Sunday as I was leaving the barn where my young horse lives. I had a good friend on my case for several months trying to get me to sell the horse. I kept going back and forth because I'd been having so many problems with her. She was dangerous for a while and just having her was causing a lot of distress. But, something inside of me said no just when I was ready to really do something about it. I started crying one day watching my trainer ride her. The other trainer said, she's a good horse, you don't have to sell her, just give it more time if you want. There's no hurry.
As soon as I stopped fretting, allowed these new trainers to let her relax and help me with her without having anyone else's agenda get in the way, both the horse and I found our way. Gem is amazing now and so happy and sweet. I'm so glad I listened to my heart and just slowed myself down.
It's so easy to keep the old tapes running in our heads or listen to others who may not always have our best interests at heart even if they think they do.
When something inside of you is screaming or even whimpering, you've got to listen to it.

  27. Hi Ronnie,

How are you doing, pal? Better, I am hoping.

I have to agree with you 100% with going with your gut feeling.I believe that there are amny things in the universe that can't be explained by logic alone.

It is my experience that sometimes we have to take the time to listen. We can be too busy or too determined to achieve something to listen.

I think that you are very much in touch with your intuition. And that's good; it can be a life saver.

    Big hugs to ya

  31. Yep, I'm with you all the way on this one. I often come unstuck if I don't listen to that inner voice, and often benefit when I do. So, tell me, why don't we listen more often? Is it because we're so often required to justify our actions, or is the world just too 'loud'?

You brought up an excellent question.....

"why don't we listen more often? Is it because we're so often required to justify our actions, or is the world just too 'loud'?"

For me I think it may be a bit of both, plus THINKING too much rather than trusting it immediately. And what's strange is that sometimes I can go with my gut very easily, without a second of hesitation.

Thanks so much for stopping by and adding your thoughts to this post, Jay, much appreciated!

  35. i'm finally back from my chinese new year break! i agree with the intuition thingy. guys who followed (or even partially followed) their intuition seemed to be able to understand female a little more. while girls who followed (or at least tried to understand) the masculine part in them, are able to lead just as well as guys, n also understand the reason guys do what they do. or maybe that's how i understand the whole theory (n guys). hehe. i guess some called it "following your heart"? but i'll admit sometimes its not easy. with love, it was easy. but during fights, it also make it super difficult to hold back that "instinctive" reaction. you know, just to not make things worst, since it is so much easier to just throw all harmful words in that direction n win.

Exactly! To me, there's great power in embracing BOTH, because each one has great attributes that compliment and balance both the masculine and feminine energies.

And you're soooooooo right in saying that it's not always easy to follow your heart because I too find it at times VERY challenging.

  37. very interesting topic for the day. It's odd though, how we (the larger collective 'we') commend others for paying attention to that little voice inside, but when we hear it ourselves, we so often second guess our intuition instead of giving that voice the credibility it deserves. I've been trying to let my inner voice borrow my real voice lately. Excellent essay! xoxo

You said it! It's kinda like being able to stand back and look at someone else's life clearly, yet when it comes to our own life we're too close to notice the little subtleties that direct us, and trust them.
