Did you ever have one of those days when you don’t know what you’re in the mood for to eat?

Or you THINK you know what you’re in the mood for to eat, but then after you eat it you say to yourself, “Gee…this was NOT what I was in the mood for to eat.”

So then you try eating something else because it looks good, but then after you eat it you say to yourself, “Gee…this was STILL not what I was in the mood for to eat.”

Then, once again, you try eating something else because it looks delicious, but then after you eat it you say to yourself, “Gee…maybe I should just go to bed and start over tomorrow, because no matter what I eat it’s really not what I want.”

And by 9 p.m., you’re FULL and BLOATED with food in your stomach that you THOUGHT you were in the mood for, but none of it filled that feeling of, “Yes…this is exactly what I was in the mood for to eat!”

Monday, I had one of those days.

And I hate those days because it feels as though my taste buds are playing some SICK mind game with my brain.

First of all, I was practically out of food in my kitchen because I didn’t have time to go to the grocery store, therefore I ate what was left in my refrigerator. I ate a big bag of frozen mixed vegetables that were seasoned with herbs and garlic sauce. Now normally I love this food, but for some reason it left me feeling flat and unfulfilled.

So I flossed and brushed my teeth, and then walked to the Wawa convenient store down the street to see if there was something I was in the mood for.

Initially, I picked up a pre-made Greek salad because that looked good.

Then I picked up a pre-made container of cheese, grapes and pita chips because that looked even better.

Then I went over to the deli section and thought I might enjoy a nice Italian hoagie. But as I was glancing at the menu I thought to myself, “Yup...I know exactly what I’m in the mood for….a Mexican quesadilla!”

Thus, I walked TEN blocks to a new Mexican fast-food restaurant, but discovered they DID NOT serve quesadilla’s. That’s right, NO quesadilla’s.

Yeah, see if I ever go back to that so-called AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurant again.

Adios muchacho!!!!!

So....I walked TWO more blocks to a Quedero Mexican fast-food restaurant and ordered a large vegetable quesadilla with a side of avocado and sour cream. I took it To Go. And then ran back to my apartment because I wanted to sit down and relax; enjoying what I had FINALLY figured out what it was that I was in the mood for to eat.

*insert unhappy look on my face*

But, it wasn’t.

In fact, I ate the WHOLE thing thinking to myself, “ Nope…this isn't it either.”

And the worst part about it was that the quesadilla made me extremely GASSY, which caused me to I walk around my apartment for the rest of the evening, TOOTING like Thomas The Choo Choo Train.

Therefore, if I can give you any advice if this should ever happen to you….

“Gee…maybe you should just go to bed and start over tomorrow, because no matter what you do it’s NEVER gonna be what you’re in the mood for to eat.”

Wishing you a not-one-of-these-days weekend everyone!

  1. ah, i hate it when that happens! not to mention the anxiousness, nothing feel right! especially the taste in my mouth, i'll feel like stuffing myself with random food yet never get the taste that i want. in fact, most of the time i gave up not knowing what i truly wanted to eat! urgh, talking about going to bed with that dissatisfaction hanging in our guts. a living nightmare!

  2. I have days like that too Ron. I hate it when I make a meal, which I've been really looking forward to, only to get half way through it and I don't want it cos it's just not what I was expecting. :(

  3. It has happened to me but I never go to any lengths to satisfy the craving for something different. Do you think it happens because our diets have become so ordinary? You know what I mean... same things week in, week out. I recently had to recognise that my diet needed to change, I was bored with everything. So I changed. Hubs can't keep up...lol. They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach so perhaps now I'll get there. Enjoy your weekend. Oh and Happy 4th July.

  4. I usually know what I crave for... but at times I can change my mind at the very last minute. Like, all evening I will be thinking that chicken sounds uber super good tonight, and then as I open the fridge door, I suddenly decide to go for raviolis.

Have a sweet weekend dear Ron!

  5. Oh yes, the 'Stand at the fridge door and ponder' days. I have them often. Nothing worse than the feeling of dissatisfaction food wise. You're right, it's usually best to just accept it, go to bed and hope tomorrow is more satisfying.

  6. Was the place with no quesadillas the place that starts with a C and ends in a potle? Because I'm SO disappointed with that place.

  7. Wow, Ron, your taste buds were really messing with you. Hope they behave themselves for the holiday weekend--show 'em who's boss! And while I'm talking about the holiday weekend--have a great one!

" not to mention the anxiousness, nothing feel right! especially the taste in my mouth, i'll feel like stuffing myself with random food yet never get the taste that i want."

Yes! Yes! That's exactly what I felt like on Monday....nothing felt right! So, I ate and ate but nothing satisfied that 'pang' of enjoyment. I swear, it was like my taste buds were 'messing' with me - HA!

    Yup...a living nightmare!

Thanks for stopping by, my friend. Have a great weekend!

"It has happened to me but I never go to any lengths to satisfy the craving for something different."

Ha! I know...I was bound and determined to find something to satisfy that craving. I was on a MISSION - HA!

"Do you think it happens because our diets have become so ordinary? You know what I mean... same things week in, week out. I recently had to recognise that my diet needed to change, I was bored with everything."

You know, I never thought of that but you may be right! Also, I thought perhaps that our taste buds might go through some sort of physical change every so often, thus the confusion in what to eat.

"Hubs can't keep up...lol. They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach so perhaps now I'll get there."

    HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAHA! You GO, dear lady!!!!

P.S. I thought of you yesterday, as President Obama was in Philly. In fact, he was only TWO blocks from where I live. I tried to get a picture of him coming out of the building, but as soon as I walked away....he came out - DRATS! However, I did get some shots of the excitement going on.

  17. My dilemma is usually, "Nothing sounds good to me." I get on these kicks where I eat the same thing everyday for breakfast, same thing for lunch and then I guess I just get tired of it. I think I'm a bit of a picky eater, so my choices are limited, esp. since I'm also always counting calories.

    Sorry about your toot :)

  23. oh no! not a happy camper type of story, is it? I am in a low-food-availability crisis myself. I so need to stock up, but that would mean a trip to the grocery store. Doesn't exactly sound like fun. Hope you have had the chance to go by now so you won't have another mexican food meltdown experience. Quesadillas sound good - I might need to make some this weekend :) Yum. xoxo

  25. I think that whole scenario is a weekly occurence around here sometimes.
Sometimes just making a fruit smoothie (love my Ninja, although I don't like cleaning it!) or even a hot cup of dark choco with a little whipped cream is enough ... atleast to hold me off awhile until I get closer to knowing what type of meal I really want. But sometimes nothing works and I'm just noshing on every little thing, feeling uncomfortable and still unsatisfied. It's all the choices we have now days I think because when I was a kid you got what was put on the table. So you ate the meal and liked it. Even on Scrapple night.. bleh, ick, yuck... I just went for the overly fried piece and covered it in ketchup.

Luckily, tonight's dinner was easybreezy. Didn't feel like cooking so I made a cold tuna salad with celery and then some sauteed zucchini (from hubby's garden!) in olive oil with a little pepper and sea salt. YUM!

Have a nice holiday weekend, Ron. xo

You sound like me! I nosh all day long (granola bars, raisins, fruit) and then still eat a breakfast, lunch and dinner. However, I eat without a set time. I eat whenever I'm hungry....which is ALL the time - HA!

I eat small meals, all day long.

"It's all the choices we have now days I think because when I was a kid you got what was put on the table. So you ate the meal and liked it. Even on Scrapple night.. bleh, ick, yuck... "

OMG...you said it! When I was a kid I ate what I was giving. And sometimes on a Sunday morning, I got Scrapple - MAJOR bleh, ick, yuck!

"....I made a cold tuna salad with celery and then some sauteed zucchini (from hubby's garden!) in olive oil with a little pepper and sea salt. YUM!"

That sounds faaaaaaaabulous! I just finished eating myself. I had a huge salad with chicken strips, almond slices, and a new Greek salad dressing I tried. MAJOR yummy! Later, it's a bowl of fresh strawberries.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, M! I always love chatting with you!

Lemme tell ya--when I find myself 'there', I just pass and forget it until I figure it out. *laughing* I'm kinda like that.

Truth is--most times I know what I want and CAN'T freakin' HAVE IT cuz it has stupid wheat or barley or malt or some derivative of 'em and it puts a crimp the whole darn 'whatta I REALLY want' quandry.

I WANT a donut! k...I don't really like donuts... BUT--I WANT broasted chicken. OMG I soooo want broasted chicken....and deep fried, beer batter onion rings/mushroom/zuchinni.....

    k.....
    I can do a quesadilla.
    We have CORN tortilla's.....and cheese....
    *sigh*

  37. Hi Ron, I find that these days happen more often in the summer. In the winter its easy to find hearty warming food to satisfy but in the summer it is harder to find that light meal that will hit the spot.
Often I will cook something for my boys with the idea I will get myself something later when I know what I want. This does mean there are nights when I just don't bother purely because there is nothing I fancy.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I myself have made some pretty darn interesting meals on "what's left in the fridge" night. By the way, don't try noodles, salsa, peanuts, and cheese. Not a good combo. Trust me on that one Ron.
