Well…hold on to your hats folks!

Yes, I’ve installed yet ANOTHER new commenting format on this blog.

And why?

*first, put your hands over your ears because I’m going to get loud and rant*

BECAUSE I’M SO SICK OF BLOGGERS COMMENTING FORMAT, I COULD RIP BOTH MY EYEBROWS OFF!!!!!!!!!!

*sorry for all the CAPS, but I’m utterly sick of it*

So, I decided to add Disqus.

I realize that getting use to a new commenting format can be an adjustment, but I believe in the long run it will be a more reliable system. I know many people who use Disqus on their blogs, and very successfully.

The whole reason for trying out these new formats is to make commenting more easy for you.

I totally understand that technical glitches are bound to come up with any commenting format from time to time, however Blogger technical issues are getting OLD and WAY too frequent.

Between last week and this week, I received EIGHT emails from people who said they had issues commenting. And, btw, thank you all for letting me know. And these were not only issues from people using other blogging platforms, but Blogger users as well. In fact, I have had trouble leaving comments on several other Blogger blogs, therefore I understood their frustration.

With Blogger it’s a hit or miss. Some people have no problem commenting, while others experience it a lot. Some weeks it works well, other weeks it SUCKS ELEPHANT DICK!

Instead of Blogger always concentrating on adding new widgets and improving the appearance of our blogs, it would behoove them to first consider focusing their attention on improving this ANCIENT commenting format that dates back to 3000 BC.

I know Blogger is a free service, but so is Wordpress. However, they do a MUCH better job at giving their users a reliable, professional, and up-to-date commenting format.

Blogger has its strong points and advantages too. And I’m grateful to have had my blog here for so long, but COME ON BLOGGER!

Get with the program and give us a better commenting system.

And one that works more than 50% percent of the time.

Okay….I’m finished with my rant.

*deep cleansing breath*

-----------------------------------

What I thought I’d do, is give you all some assistance in logging in to make a comment for the first time, so that it’s as easy as possible.

Directions:

First, click on the comment link below this post.

You will notice that comments are embedded below the post as in my other commenting format, but with a twist. The comment box is ABOVE all the comments so you won’t have to scroll ALL the way to the bottom to make your comment - ALLELUIA!

Begin, by typing your comment in the box. When you’re finished, click on the POST AS button on the lower right hand corner of the box, then choose which option you would like to use and log into that account. If you simply choose to log in as a guest, just fill out the information in the boxes (including your email address, your name, and your blog URL using the option link) and then click on POST COMMENT. And VIOLA…you’re done!

For those of you who already have a Disqus account, just log in as usual.

For those of you who wish to sign up for a Disqus account, just click on the LOG IN link (located on the upper right hand corner above of the comment box) and you can register. It’s fast and easy! You can even add your own avatar.

I’ve noticed that more and more bloggers are using Disqus as their commenting format, so it probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to eventually sign up for an account yourself.

One of the GREATEST things about Disqus is that it allows comment threading so that I can respond to your comments directly BELOW your comments - ALLELUIA!

Also, if you register for a Disqus account, reply comments can be sent directly to your email address so you are aware of my replies, if you choose that option.

I have enabled comment moderation like before, so you will see a little pop-up window after you post your comment that says your comment is being held in moderation before publishing.

I’ve tested this new format on my practice blog and it really seems to work smoothly on Blogger. It was also incredibly easy to install by placing the code in a widget on my sidebar - it was a snap!

If you ladies or gents experience any issues with this new format (now or in the future) PLEASE don’t hesitate to email me so I am aware of it.

Thank you. Have fun and enjoy Disqus!

Have a GREAT weekend everyone!

X

Update: Ooops, I almost forgot...I would like to thank both Babs and Meleah who so graciously gave me their feedback and advice about Disqus. Thank you, ladies...you were a HUGE help!

That, my friend, is a great feature! That's something that I don't have on my Wordpress blog, but it would be fantastic to have. I'll have to search around to see if WP has anything similar to Disqus.

And it's nice to see another upgrade to your blog! *thumbs up!*

  3. Hey Herman!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay! Your my first comment on Disqus!!!! Yes, I've wanting so bad to have commenting threading on this blog for so long because it really makes replying so much more personal, ya know? I did have a different commenting system about a year ago, but it really didn't work well on Blogger. Hopefully, Disqus will be smooth. And hey listen, you can also use Disqus on Wordpress very easily because several of my Wordpress readers use it on their blogs. Check it out.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy! And thanks for your support in this change. Muchly appreciated!

Hope you had a FAB day and a great weekend!

X to you and the family!

  4. Hey there Ronnie,
    Testing...
I had having one heck of a time last week. The old system was not working for me no longer. This is the first time that I have hear of or used Disqus, so it is great to learn.
I am very pleased with WP's commenting system. Everyone seems to have no problems using it and it isolates spammy comments automatically, which is always a God send. Anyone new that comments has to be approved by me.

I am glad that you are up & running, kiddo. Have a great Friday & weekend.
    xo

  5. Ooooh something new. I like the fact that the comment box is directly below the post. I can (I say this hopefully because I haven't yet investigated ) always read comments from others afterwards. Is this something I could use on my Blogger blog? I also approve of the fact that you can reply directly without having to wade through an ocean of responses. I am properly dissatisfied with Blogger and have had a look at Wordpress, but not being able to understand it sort of put me off changing. Well, so far so good, now I go and click buttons. Make sure you have a superb weekend, my friend.

  8. yay ~ this is easy to use and it remembers me even! how amazing is that, I'm a fan. I noticed two distinct styles of blogger-provided commenting on blogger blogs, but only one of the styles experienced the problems that I encountered this past week. Surprisingly I did not see a whole lot of discussion when I searched the internet for the problem. I found 1 snippet that led me to download the new browser. But I'm glad you have implemented this plugin, it's a huge difference from blogger provided commenting. Also thank you for your concern in the matter. I contacted a few other blogger-bloggers about the issue and it seems to have eclipsed their notice completely. xo, diane

I've run across this comment thingy while visiting other places. I didn't have any issues with getting my comment to post.

    Here?
Wild guess as to what I'm doing.
I'm such a 'OMG there's a CHANGE and I have to adjust!!' kinda control freak. LOL
I'll adjust. Just as soon as I figure out what I'm doing.
    Yes--I know there were instructions.

Do I strike you as the kind who'd FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS?!?!

  12. You can incorporate threaded commenting into your Wordpress blog. Just google it and you should be able to find a widget for it.

  13. Hey there Barbara~

Yes, I know you were one of those who had issues commenting last week and I'm so sorry about that. I think Disqus will be a MUCH more reliable system. I'm going to try it for a month, and if by chance it doesn't work, I can always remove it. But so far, so good - yaaaaaaaaaaay!

To me, Wordpress has the BEST commenting format out there.

Thanks for stopping by, my friend. Hope is well and that you have a super weekend@

  16. Hey Jen~

I was SO thinking of you last night while I was installing Disqus. The thing that took the longest was waiting for all my previous comments to import, but once they did, I synced them and it worked!

"I really want to put it on my blog but I've found out from Squarespace that I can't export all my old comments into Disqus but I DO run the very real risk that all of my previous comments will be lost. So, I'm still waiting."

Oh, bummer! Well, think about it for a while and then make your decision.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. It was so great talking to you the other night! Have a great weekend!

Thank you so much for being open to this change. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it continues to work properly.

So sorry to hear you also had issues leaving a comment this week. MANY people did.

Thank you for stopping by and for your birthday wish, dear lady!

I know getting use to something new can be a bit of an adjustment, but like I shared, I think it's gonna be a much better commenting format. So, thanks for your openness to try it.

I am glad you too have chosen the Disqus way: welcome to the family.

I've known about Disqus since it launched. But only lately I realized it's secret power: comments you make on any site are still under your control and second you'll never loose your comments as long as Disqus is in business.

    See you around.

  25. Hey there Jaffer~

"I am glad you too have chosen the Disqus way: welcome to the family."

Thank you! I know of so many people (you, of one) who have been using Disqus on their blogs for a while now, and I've never had a problem leaving a comment or have heard of any MAJOR issues. So, I thought I'd give it a go! So far, so good!

Yes, more and more bloggers (from many different blogging platforms are using it), so it must be good.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by and trying it out. And thank you for your support, girl!

  27. I am SO happy you switched. I already had DISQUS so I didn't have to do anything but sign in! I so agree that Blogger was already harder than others to begin with because I'd have to hit submit like 10 times to get it to post. I know others had the same problem. We thought is was maybe jus the difference between Blogger and Wordpress but I guess not! I for one am delirious!

  29. Hiya Peg~

"I am SO happy you switched. I already had DISQUS so I didn't have to do anything but sign in!"

That's WONDERFUL! I too already had an account with them for about a year now because many people I blog with use Disqus (and most of them are on Wordpress).

" so agree that Blogger was already harder than others to begin with because I'd have to hit submit like 10 times to get it to post. I know others had the same problem. We thought is was maybe jus the difference between Blogger and Wordpress but I guess not! I for one am delirious!'

A blogging friend of mine (Diane) figured out that the cause of so many issues logging into Blogger to make a comment was from the various web browsers. Apparently, Blogger is not compatible with some IE browsers.

    Go figure?!?

Anyway, thanks for stopping by and glad to hear you enjoy Disqus! Have a fab weekend, dear friend!

  33. OH I so don't know about all this technical stuff and barely read thru the directions so I hope this comment works....

I have occasionally experienced a glitch leaving a comment for someone but not all that often. And since no one has emailed me to say that they were unable to comment at my place, I'm assuming Blogger is being good to me... for now. Hopefully, it'll stay that way. If not, I'm coming back here to cut and paste your rant because it was terrific. Go, Ron, GO!

Hope your new commenting system works like a dream.

Have a spectacular weekend! It's going to be a little warm during the day, but these cool nights are quite lovely. :)

Yes Disqus is also for WordPress and it IS great!

    ReplyDelete
  35. OK Ron. How will this work now? I have responded to Herman but it is now waiting for you to moderate. Understandable if Herman doesn't have a Disqus account, but what would happen if I responded to another Disqus user here? Would their email get held up waiting for moderation by you? Hmmm... we'll have to wait and see :) You're the only blogger I know that moderates comments so I haven't come across this one before.

Anyway I'm so glad you've moved over to Disqus. It's a great system and most (if not all) of the comments below are positive :)

I'm not sure, because I don't know everything about Disqus yet. But, I'm assuming he wouldn't get your reply until I moderated it. But, I have to tell you, I moderate my comments VERY fast so it shouldn't be a problem.

"Anyway I'm so glad you've moved over to Disqus. It's a great system and most (if not all) of the comments below are positive."

  41. Hi Ron. Disqus is in a quandary about which name to use for me!! Haha I know the feeling. I had a look at it with a view to adopting same but decided against it on the grounds of the above... every time it asked for name and addy it told me it had already been used. Yes... by me!!!! Anyway, this is me, VALERIE. I came back on here because I hadn't received a note of your responses and realised I hadn't subscribed by email. Thought I'd better check it out. Found it eventually, right at the foot of the page, after wading through all the messages. I'm going to click it NOW and see what happens. Oooh, do you lie awake nights worrying about silly things? Yes, please check out Disqus for your own blog because it's compatible with Blogger. It was much easier to install than Intense Debate (the other commenting format I once had here).

"I had a look at it with a view to adopting same but decided against it on the grounds of the above... every time it asked for name and addy it told me it had already been used."

Don't let that stop you from using Disqus on your blog because once you set up an account, you can CHANGE your account name (to Valerie). I did the same thing when I first set up my account. It told me that (Ron) had all ready been taken, but after I chose (Ronnie C) to initially set up my Disqus account, I went back and changed the name to Ron so that my comment avatar matched.

And if you set up an account with Disqus, you don't have to click on the subscribe by email link everytime you post a comment, it will just automatically be sent to you.

  54. I've had Disqus for a while now and don't understand why everyone doesn't get it or a system like it. The best browser I've found to use with it is Google Chrome. I sometimes have problems with IE.

    ReplyDelete
  55. hey ronnie, since you get as many comments as flea bites, i thought i'd pop on over and compare your site to mine...now i see you have more users with a 'gravatar' so not so many of those horrid kingarthur/black holes as i had after going over to the disqus side--did you import over to disqus?

...i do think i love it just for that threading thingy tho i don't have nearly as many to thread as you....i am a bit concerned with what just happened when i clicked on your face on my blog....

it brings up a box with a list of a whole bunch of blogs and i think it is every single one with your comment on it....if i want to go look i presume i can read them?...i don't have much problem with that as why not but on the other hand, it is there forever isn't it? i don't know if it bothers me that one can see everywhere i go if i travel around commenting IF they too have an account on disqus and came to see me or maybe i can click on a stranger here and still be able to see their meanderings? am i making sense here? sigh.....................

OTHERWISE i really like it....i see you didn't add the widgets like recent comments, top commenters, etc.... i tried one or three but it was too weird because i couldn't get it to look right with the url's ... i like the way i do it already...OK, shut up linda...xoxoxox and kinda fun to just reply here where you are already chatting up a storm instead of clear at the bottom of the thing. !!!!

  57. Hey Linda~

Aren't you LOVIN' Disqus? I am!!!

Your readers can either use their Gravtar avatar or they can also use their own avatar when they sign up for a Disqus account. So, as more of your readers start using Disqus on your blog, you will start to see more and more avatars and not that generic avatar.

"it brings up a box with a list of a whole bunch of blogs and i think it is every single one with your comment on it....if i want to go look i presume i can read them?..."

Yes, that box shows who you're blogging with in the Disqus community, however, not ALL who you're blogging with.

"....i see you didn't add the widgets like recent comments, top commenters, etc.... i tried one or three but it was too weird because i couldn't get it to look right with the url's ... i like the way i do it already..."

No, I chose not to add any of the widgets because for every widget you have on your blog, it SLOWS down the page load. And for me, my main concern is always making sure that my blog is as fast and easy to read.

Thanks so much for stopping back, dear friend!

Hope you had a great Sunday!

  62. OK, I can't even comment on your post until I get this out... I am SO DENSE. I was looking for your blog through google and typed "vent triloqiust" and "ventriloquist" came up and I about fell to the floor. I NEVER TIED THOSE TWO TOGETHER. How amazingly DENSE can I be!!! I am laughing outloud at myself.....SO FUNNY! DUHHHHHHHHHHHH!

    And regarding this post.....Yeaaaaaa!

" I was looking for your blog through google and typed "vent triloqiust" and "ventriloquist" came up and I about fell to the floor. I NEVER TIED THOSE TWO TOGETHER. How amazingly DENSE can I be!!!"

OMG...that's so ironic because when I first started this blog I had actually called it Ventriloquist, however the domain name was still triloquist because VENTtiloquist was already taken.

So you're not DENSE, you're psychic!

Thanks for stopping by, dear lady. And yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay....I finally have Disqus. And I'm loving it!

    Have a great week!

great post. i just installed DISQUIS because I was having too many complaints from followers too.

One question..when I click to add a comment in disquis, it refresh and scrolls all the way up to the top of the post (so you have to scroll back down) instead of going straight to the top of the comment box...any help?

  66. Greetings Vee~

Welcome! Thanks for stopping by and sharing a comment. Nice to meet you!

Don't you just LOVE Disqus? It's WAY better than Bloggers format, isn't it?

Yes, it does exactly the same thing to me too. But, I'm use to that because I use to use Bloggers embedded comment feature (which did the same thing). Actually, that really doesn't bother me because at least the comment box is at the TOP, rather than on Blogger which places their comment box on the BOTTOM.

    Hope this helps.

    Please stop by anytime.

    Have a great week!
