Warning: this is going to be a post with a lot of CAPS because, well, I’m just DRAMATIC.

--------------------------------

Do you see the sweet and angelic-looking bag of cough drops above?

Well, I would like to say one thing about them.

Are you ready?

GAG ME WITH A SOUP SPOON!!!

Truly, these are the WORST cough drops I have EVER tasted in my ENTIRE 56 years of living on this planet. At first, I thought it was my imagination playing tricks on me; making me believe I was a farmer who had accidentally placed my hand in my mouth after shoveling COW DUNG.

No, they’re even WORSE than cow dung.

*not that I’ve ever tasted cow dung mind you*

These cough drops taste like little pieces of cow dung that have been fork-dipped into a fondue pot of NAIL POLISH REMOVER.

I KID YOU NOT.

I didn’t actually have a cough when I purchased them, I just like having cough drops with me because my throat sometimes gets dry during the winter months from talking all day at work. However, after eating one of these hellish drops, I suddenly FELT like coughing.

And then calling 911.

Normally I purchase Ricola Cough Drops because they're very soothing for a dry throat and taste mild. But since I’m always up for trying something different, I thought I’d give these drops a whirl because they were listed as NATURAL.

Yeah, naturally HORRIBLE.

Some of the ingredients are ginger, honey, lemon grass, tea extract, sage, and white thyme.

Talk about taste sensory OVERLOAD.

The only other natural ingredients missing are Simon and Garfunkel singing, “Parsley and Rosemary.”

And trust me, there isn’t nearly enough honey in these drops to sweeten up the overriding bitter taste of POO-POO.

I have a feeling it was the SAGE that did it for me. If any of you have ever smelled burning sage, it’s similar to the smell of burning marijuana. Which is not a BAD smell, yet I don’t want to EAT it unless it’s baked in BROWNIES.

Here’s a short video clip I put together on these WRETCHED cow dung droppings.

Wishing you a sweet-tasting weekend everyone!

X

  1. I don't think they sell them here but thanks for the warning Ron. LOL

  2. Bahahaha! Ok, I TOTALLY BELIEVE YOU, RON!!!!! I'd have been fooled by that bag as well though. I like honey, so I'd figure they would taste pretty good! I have a cough right now, so thank you for the informational video! I'll continue swallowing my foul tasting cough syrup and then run and brush my teeth!

  3. Hi Ronnie,

I know how expressive you can be but, when it comes to tastes, it is not possible to pretend to like something when you hate it! We all knew that by instinct as kids. It was That bad, huh??

My first thought; why doesn't he write to Halls( which is usually one of the references in cough drops) and tell them. Maybe there are more people hating them than you think! You may be even teaching them something...

My second thought; I am spared the product here in France. We do of course, get multinational products. But, Halls are pretty hard to come by in general. But, we have tons of Riccola, since it is Swiss.

Your videos are becoming almost all non-verbal since your theatre etiquette video. A new trend?
Have a lovely weekend, sweetie! xo

  4. so, just to be clear, you didn't like them?

when I got to the Simon and Garfunkel line I was laughing so loud I made Siren run away!!

    and the video is priceless

  5. Hahaha I get the impression you didn't like those cough drops. Haven't you heard the old saying 'the worse it tastes the more good it does you' ... I don't believe it, of course, unless it means that the sheer awfulness of medicine drives you to feeling well again ... just so you don't take any more. Loved the expression on your face when you popped the drop. Thanks for the Friday smile. Have a pleasant cough-free weekend.

  6. THAT bad, huh?!? Well, I guess you won't have to worry about the Halls company getting in touch regarding an ad on your page. ;)

You're right though, the bag does look nice. All green and sunny. It feels like a lovely warm day. My gawd, Ron, there are sweet little flowers on the bag, and little lemon slices ... how bad can they be??? Such a lot of drama for a tiny little cough drop. Sheesh! hehe Just teasin'... I don't plan on trying them too soon. I like those little wild cherry red ones anyway.

    Have a FABULOUS weekend!!

  7. Wow, Ron, thanks for the warning! You manageed to make combine a consumer alert, a public service announcement and a candy review all in one post! And a funny video to boot! I stopped buying Halls a long time ago. I always thought they tasted like chemicals. I'm very wary of the term "natural" because companies can slap that label on just about anything--including cow dung! Now go back to the Ricolas and have a great weekend, buddy!

  8. Good Akelamalu~

Lucky you because they're horrible - HA!

Thanks for stopping my, m' dear!

  10. Hey there Bijoux~

"I'd have been fooled by that bag as well though. I like honey, so I'd figure they would taste pretty good!"

OMG....you honestly can't even taste honey in these drops, over the other sensory overload of the mishmash of pungent herbs!

    Poo-Poo!

"I have a cough right now, so thank you for the informational video! I'll continue swallowing my foul tasting cough syrup and then run and brush my teeth!"

    Yes, I think that's a wise choice!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, my friend. Hope your cough goes away soon.

  11. Bonjour Barb~

"I know how expressive you can be but, when it comes to tastes, it is not possible to pretend to like something when you hate it!"

OMG....this is NO exaggeration, these are the WORST!!!! And yet, when I saw the pretty graphic on the bag I thought they would taste like HEAVEN.

    NOT.

"My first thought; why doesn't he write to Halls"

Yes, I may in fact, contact Halls and let them know. Surly others must feel the same way as I do.

"My second thought; I am spared the product here in France."

Yes, that's what Akelamalu shared in her comment, and she lives in Europe also. To me, Ricola truly are the best cough/throat lozenges, so I think I'll stick to them.

"Your videos are becoming almost all non-verbal since your theatre etiquette video. A new trend?"

Ha! No, not a new trend, but some videos I feel need no spoken words, just visuals.

I'm having the funnest time discovering all the different stuff I can do with Windows Live Movie Maker. It's a BLAST. Editing them is the most challenging, but I'm slowly learning.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend! Have a SUPER weekend!

    Thank you for 'getting' that!

I had so much making this little video clip, glad you enjoyed. I swear to god, I'm learning so much about how to make these videos, I may try making a WHOLE movie.

" My gawd, Ron, there are sweet little flowers on the bag, and little lemon slices ... how bad can they be??? Such a lot of drama for a tiny little cough drop. Sheesh! hehe Just teasin'... "

No, it's true, I'm sooooooooooooooo DRAMATIC! But I have to tell you, these drops ARE dramatic (in a terrible way) HA!

I know that you and I are both into NATURAL healing stuff and are open to try new things. And by the looks of bad, I thought, "Oooooo.....I bet these are gonna be good!"

    NOT!

Thanks so much for stopping by, neighbor! Always FAB seeing ya!

Thanks bud. I think I may start making these and ask NBC and CBS to start playing them as infomercials - HAHAHAAHHAHAHA!

I'm not big into Halls myself, because they are just too damn strong-tasting and end up irritating my throat. Yet, these little sweet and innocent-looking drops looked good.

    BOY...are looks DECEIVING! HA!

"Now go back to the Ricolas...."

    Right you are, buddy!

Truly, these drops are so incredibly bitter-tasting, that nail polish remover was the only thing I could think of that would come close to describing them.

Thank you. So glad you're enjoying my videos. Actually, it's really quite easy to make these if you download Windows Live Movie Maker to your computer. In fact, if you have Windows 7 software, it may already be on there. Honestly, it's been so much fun making these things. I think you would enjoy it too because you're such a creative person.

I've learned more about HTML coding from having my blog here at Blogger because they allow you to fiddle with the template code. And trust me, I've made A LOT of mistakes fiddling with the code, but it was always been fixable. My current template is imported from a third-party designer which was already set up for Blogger blogs. Honestly, these are the best and easiest free templates I've ever worked with.

Glad you and Mo had a giggle :)

Yes, too love the taste of honey and lemon cough drops, and that's why I thought these would be excellent to try. However, I think it's the combination of all the other ingredients that gave this cough drop a really confusing and bitter taste.

No, I've never heard of Lockets, but I just Googled them to see what they were, and read that they were a product of the UK. They look and sound great!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH!!!

    I LOVE the video! Perfect!!

I'll have you know that there is a transatlantic equivalent to these horrible things called Hall's Lemon and Honey Soothers. They are putrid. I would almost rather die coughing than eat one. Actually, though, they aren't quite as bad as the Peach and Raspberry Soothers which taste like .. like ... I honestly don't know. And I don't want to find out.

Give me blackcurrant flavour any day. You can't go wrong with blackcurrant!

Oh, and I LOVE Ricola. They are the best!

  57. Hey there Jay~

Aw, thank you. I had so much fun putting this little video clip together.

HA! I can believe it too!

I'm not too keen on anything Halls because they just seem to be too damn intense. Yet, when I saw these in the drug store, I thought they would be milder because of what the bag looked like - WRONG!

Oooooo....I too love the flavor of blackcurrant. Yummy! Yummy!

I once had a blackcurrent gelato. Faaaaaaaabulous!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Jay. Enjoy your week!

  59. Hey there Linda!

"I HATE HALL'S ANYTHING!!! most gawdawful drops in all the world!"

Me too. However, I thought these particular Halls were going to taste better than the original/typical Halls cough drop.

    WRONG!

    They're the PITS! Very bitter-tasting - UGH!

So glad you enjoyed the vid because I'm having so much fun making these. Window Live Movie Maker is a BLAST!

Have a wonderful Thursday, dearest lady. And thanks for stopping by!
