Okay, I have this weird thing about preferring certain things OLD versus NEW.
Now I don’t mean something like an old, skanky toothbrush, no, I mean things such as bed sheets, pillow cases, blankets, clothing, and even pieces of furniture.
I like things to feel used and lived in.
There is nothing more EVIL than getting a new set of bed sheets that are so STIFF it feels as though I’m sleeping in a manila envelope and getting severe paper cuts on my arms and legs. I also hate the aroma of new bed sheets because they smell too manufactured, which is why I have to wash them like FIFTY times before I can use them.
One of my fondest childhood memories was when I would sleep over at my grandmothers’ house because her bed linens were the softest EVER. The minute I got into that bed and felt them against my skin, I would drift off to sleep. Her bed linens made me feel as though I was wrapped within the comforting wings of an angel.
I think I feel most strongly about old versus new when it comes to my clothing because my skin is very sensitive to how something feels. I don’t like anything with a rough or stiff texture touching my epidermis. And even though I’m a little guy with not much weight on my bones, I like to wear slightly looser-fitting clothes or I feel like I’m suffocating. I don’t like things too tight.
*oh, except when I’m looking at a guys’ derrière. Now, that I like TIGHT.
Yes, I admit it, I’m a BUM watcher.
Anyway, back in April I bought two new pairs of jeans (on sale) for when I go on my trip at the end of June because the jeans I currently own are disintegrating. But I refuse to get rid of them because they are the most comfortable jeans in the world. Jeans are like wine, they get better with age.
And because of my slight build, I find Wrangler Slim Fit the best for me. If I buy Wranglers Relaxed Fit, they look as though I’m modeling a sack of Idaho potatoes.
As you all know, most new jeans look and feel like someone put about TEN pounds of starch in them. And they’re also initially way too blue. I like a more faded-look in jeans on myself.
I suppose I could purchase some acid-washed, slim jeans from a place like Diesel, but I don’t feel like spending HALF my rent on a pair of denim.
Yes I know, I’m asking for the world because I want jeans that are slim, but loose-fitting. Soft. Blue, but not too blue. Also inexpensive.
What can I tell you, I’m a demanding brat when it comes to my DENIM.
Here is a collage I made of my old jeans…..
Please notice the tattered and frayed pocket and crotch. I actually like that because it makes me look like a sexy cowboy who lassoes cows for a living. However, the crotch has gotten so frayed I had to use a piece of iron-on denim to cover up the HOLE because you could see my UNDERWEAR through them. RON’S PEEP SHOW!
Also, notice how nice and faded the jeans are. I know to most people, these jeans look like they should be TORCHED with gasoline. But to me, they’re heavenly.
Here is a photo of my new jeans…..
I already washed these suckers EIGHT HUNDRED times and the color has barely faded. And they’re still so stiff it feels I’m like wearing the Tin Man’s costume in “The Wizard of Oz.”
My only other option is to lay these jeans in the middle of the street for a few days and pray for a steam roller and some ACID rain....
Have a faaaaaaabulous weekend everyone!
X
Hey everyone,
ReplyDeleteExciting news! Today, I will be meeting up with three of my longtime blogging buddies from the east coast. We’re going to meet for lunch and then tour Philadelphia. I can’t wait!!
Therefore, I will be responding to comments and visiting your blogs later in the evening.
Thank you for your patience and understanding!

'*oh, except when I’m looking at a guys’ derrière. Now, that I like TIGHT.'
ReplyDeleteOh me, too... definitely.
I know EXACTLY what you mean about sheets... I put off buying new for ages because I can't stand the newness. Stepdaughter had the answer she bought me SILK which I have to admit feels GREAT against the skin. I have to keep those for best though, which means they're seldom used...haha.
Jeans seem to come in different colours over here, I rarely see the good old blue ones. I suppose that's because they're sold ready faded. Duh!
Why not send the jeans over here ... I can provide plenty of acid rain.
Hope you had a fun day.
That's so funny, because I love a "firm" jean. That's because I feel like it's holding all my fat together, minimizing the shake. I also have a lot of junk in my trunk, so a firmer jean helps there too. Of course, I don't ever want to see a picture of my trunk junk and don't you dare try to sneak one today when we meet, or I'll write you off forever. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteSO EXCITED to meet you, I could bust!!!!
the shot of the new jeans looks like what they call 'mom jeans'
ReplyDeletetoo blue and too perfect
you gotta put them on and go roll around the park ;)
preferably with a cowboy!
The worst thing for me is a new pillow. I like a medium hardness pillow, but the last one I bought is ridiculous. I've had it 2 years and my head has worn a little groove on one edge and if I try to use the other edge, it is so still it hurts my neck! Probably makes no sense -hard to explain!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of tight clothes either, Ron. In fact, yesterday I decided to get rid of a few t-shirts and summer sweaters because they just felt tight around the bottom. Or maybe I just need to drop a few pounds??
Have a good weekend and have fun with those bloggers!!!!
I meant that the pillow is so stiff, not so 'still'
ReplyDeleteJust yesterday I was outside with the doggies and my neighbor was hanging her bed sheets on a clothesline. A clothesline!!! Like in the backyard, drying in the warm sun. Oooh, so '70's, right? LOL When she walked closer to chat I noticed the little wooden clothespin in her hand. Ahh... memories of childhood! My mom used to hang her laundry out. Maybe everyone did back then? Your grandmother must have too. Either that or she had some good export connections from Egypt. haha! But it just felt comfortable, you know, to slip into bed with that well-worn but super soft bedding that held the beautiful breezes of the day to help us drift off to sleep....
ReplyDeleteWell, I said to her... 'they must smell so nice' and she said that they really did.
YES, I agree with you, used and lived in feels great against the skin.
And how funny is it that I JUST bought some new clothes and it took what felt like an ETERNITY to find ones I didn't want to rip right off. Don't even get me started on this topic!! Oh gee, too late! First, a size 12 (bwahaha, in my wildest dreams) in one store is not the same thing in another. I have to try on EVERYTHING. Not to mention, stiff elastic, weird sleeves, scratchy material, itchy tags, etc. It took me over 2 hours to buy 3 shirts and 1 pair of pants. And the pants. Good God. $65 for stretch capri's. Okay, I did get them for $35 but for as many pairs as I had to try on to get ones that weren't riding up or bunching or sagging or doing something other awful thing to the delicate areas they should have paid ME to take them. I can't even believe that people shop at that place you linked and pay $200 or more for jeans. OMFG! Even if I HAD that kind of money, they just couldn't be comfortable enough or worth that much.
Okay, you sexy cowboy, hope those new jeans of yours wear in very soon! Have a wonderful weekend. And make sure to post about your lunch and tour of Philly with the blog buds!! Sounds so fun!!
xo
Hey, Ron. First, have a great day with your blogging buddies! I'm sure you'll show them a good time! Secondly, I loved this post. I've got a couple pairs of jeans that are little more than threads and good intentions, but I don't want to get rid of them. I can't stand new jeans--they make me feel like I'm wearing leg irons! And I think we have a similar build, so if my jeans are too big, I'll sink without a trace! Have a great weekend, buddy, and let's pray for some acid rain!
ReplyDeleteYet again, we are so alike! I like everything soft. Mo likes crispy towels and I can't stand them that way. Give me softener every time!
ReplyDeleteI remember when jeans came so stiff that you could stand them up on their own and you had to buy them a couple of sizes too big because they shrunk. I'm talking about the 'first' jeans here in the UK (Levi, I think)
You had to put them on (no mean feat as they were so stiff) and sit in a bath of water so they would shrink to fit. I used to get a bowl of slightly diluted bleach and a scrubbing brush and scrub those jeans to within an inch of their life - every time I washed them, until I got the old, faded look I liked. I think I may have started this faded look jeans craze.
I love frayed jeans. I had to throw all of my old jeans out recently. Not because they were too old for me, but I lost weight and they fall off me now. Sadly, I think women begin to look a bit odd in old, frayed jeans once they reach a certain age. It's a man's world :))
Hey there Ronnie,
ReplyDeleteFirst, a big "Yay, for the blogger meet up. Great!!. We have been there too, haven't we? I LOVE these types of initiatives.
Oh boy, look at the veteran jean of yours... A survivor, that one! God now, we can't have the shole world peeping at your jockeys, can't we? You really make me laugh.
I also love the softness of old jeans, but when they are that old, I use them in the house. I can't trapse around like that.
I share the love of soft clothes; a fluffy towel, clean, soft sheets and clothes that just caress your skin.
Awwhhh; what a sweet memory to have about your grandmother's house.
Really special.
I wish you lots of fun getting that jean to soften up a bit.
Big hugs and I'll be keeping in touch... only 9 days left before my own departure!
xox
I have been known to wear my fave jeans until they fall apart. I hate shopping for new jeans...and breaking them in is even worse. Hope you get yours feeling comfy in no time!
ReplyDeleteAnd bed sheets must be soft!
ron, are we twins? well, no, i guess not because i WOULD spend ALL my rent on 1000tc egyptian cotton sheets AND pillow cases as well as the best hungarian WHITE goose down 800£ fill comforter-nothing from china, thank you very much.
ReplyDeletehusband loves his wranglers too and he's skinny and tall. then he pulls them up to keep them from falling off his bony rear with an old- OLD- leather belt from 1976.
how to soften AND fade at same time. i have the trick. lots of hot hot water and a little bleach and do it a few times. and a hot dryer. my guess is you are having them done at the cleaners so you have to say what you mean to them. at least you do here. specifically. like write it down specifically. did that make sense?
i am an old hat at making everything that touches this skin soft. and i am spoiled rotten besides. yes, i know i don't seem that way. ;) it's simply an illusion. try and live with me and pay for all this. then you'd get the idea but i wouldn't want to give you any more pain.
how about how long you have to sit and your rear starts to contract off the chair because it's just been too damned long to have contact with anything hard. now that's getting almost insane about it but..... i bought a mercedes suv to get off this hill after sitting in every single expensive vehicle first to find the one that best suited me and my poor little hip crumbling issue. of course, it was the most expensive but that's not my fault. it's mercedes' fault. well, consider the source and erase this comment! :)
xoxoxoxox
Your new jeans are VERY blue! I have two pairs of straight leg Wrangler jeans and I'm praying that they never wear out!
ReplyDeleteI agree - there's nothing like well-used sheets. Especially if you sleep naked. And the higher the thread count, the better. As for jeans, I don't think I've ever paid more than about $30 a pair (why do we call it a pair - because there are two pant legs? Well, duh - most people have two legs! It's a pair of socks, but really just one jean. We shouldn't even pluralize it. OK, /rant).
ReplyDeleteHave fun touring the city with your blogging buds!
Ron, I hate new shirts and have to wash them before I will wear them. As for derrières? We are on the same wavelength there.....Try H&M, great prices, great fit...Have fun this weekend!
ReplyDeleteHey there Valerie~
ReplyDelete"Oh me, too... definitely"
*wink*
HA! Aren't derriere's the BEST??? Especially in a nice pair of JEANS!!!
"Stepdaughter had the answer she bought me SILK which I have to admit feels GREAT against the skin. I have to keep those for best though, which means they're seldom used...haha."
I've never slept on silk sheets, but I hear they're faaaaaabulous! The only thing is that I'm afraid I'd SLIDE all over the bed and fall off - HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
"Jeans seem to come in different colours over here, I rarely see the good old blue ones. I suppose that's because they're sold ready faded. Duh!"
Same over here, jeans come in so many different colours, but the pre-faded, acid-washed ones are soooooo expensive.
Thanks a bunch for stopping by, dear lady! Have a wonderful weekend!
X
Hey there Kathy!
ReplyDelete"That's so funny, because I love a "firm" jean."
Yes, I know many other people who feel the same way. Isn't it funny how everyone is different with their clothes?
"That's because I feel like it's holding all my fat together, minimizing the shake. I also have a lot of junk in my trunk, so a firmer jean helps there too."
Oh, STOP, girl! You are NOT fat.
Of course, I don't ever want to see a picture of my trunk junk and don't you dare try to sneak one today when we meet, or I'll write you off forever. Just sayin'."
Okay, I PROMISE! But I if I do take a picture of you, I will crop it from the neck up, okay? HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Yes!!!!!!! I'm SO EXCITED to meet you too!!!!!!
Thanks for stopping by, girl! Have a great weekend!
X
Hello Pearl~
ReplyDelete"Your new jeans are VERY blue!"
Yes, aren't they? And that's after washing them about 10 times so far.
" I have two pairs of straight leg Wrangler jeans and I'm praying that they never wear out!"
Wranglers are the BEST, aren't they? And they last forever!
Thank you for stopping by, m'dear! Have a lovely weekend!
X
Hey there Lady Dianne~
ReplyDelete"the shot of the new jeans looks like what they call 'mom jeans'
too blue and too perfect"
OMG, I've never heard that before 'mom jeans?!?!'
It's odd how I am with jeans because by the time I get them faded to the color blue that I like, it's time to THROW them out because they've disintegrated. But THAT'S when they look and feel the best!
"you gotta put them on and go roll around the park ;)
preferably with a cowboy!"
BWhahahahahahahha! Will do!
Thanks a bunch for stopping by, dear lady! Have a wonderful weekend!
X to you and the gang!
P.S. aren't you LOVIN' this cooler weather???
Hey there Bijoux~
ReplyDelete"The worst thing for me is a new pillow."
OMG...I'm the SAME WAY!!!!! I like a medium hardness too. I have finally gotten my bed pillows to the perfect hardness/softness that I like, but in a few more months I'll have to get new ones and then start all over again - HA!
You should see me in the department store when I'm buying new pillows. I actually take them off the shelves and lay my head on them to see how they FEEL - I kid you not!
Yes, aren't tight clothes the worst? I swear to god, they make me feel like I'm suffocating!
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend! Have a wonderful weekend!
X
HA! Yes, I knew what you meant!
ReplyDeleteX
Hey there Rob~
ReplyDeleteThank you. I just got in from meeting them and we had a GREAT day! We've been trying to do this for over a YEAR, but it's never worked out until today.
"I've got a couple pairs of jeans that are little more than threads and good intentions, but I don't want to get rid of them. I can't stand new jeans--they make me feel like I'm wearing leg irons!"
Me neither. By the time they get to the point of REALLY enjoying them (because they feel so comfortable), it's time to throw them out and get new ones!
"And I think we have a similar build, so if my jeans are too big, I'll sink without a trace!"
Yes, I think we are so I know EXACTLY what you mean - I end up looking like my jeans are wearing ME instead of me wearing THEM - HA!
Thanks a bunch for stopping by, buddy! Have a SUPA'weekend!
X
Hiya Babs~
ReplyDelete"I like everything soft. Mo likes crispy towels and I can't stand them that way. Give me softener every time!"
THANK YOU! I can't stand them either! I bath towel HAS to be soft or it feels like sandpaper on my skin.
"You had to put them on (no mean feat as they were so stiff) and sit in a bath of water so they would shrink to fit."
Yes! Yes! Yes! I remember that too!!!!!
"I used to get a bowl of slightly diluted bleach and a scrubbing brush and scrub those jeans to within an inch of their life - every time I washed them, until I got the old, faded look I liked. I think I may have started this faded look jeans craze."
OMG...how funny! Back then (when you and I were kids) they didn't even HAVE faded jeans, they only came in one color, DARK BLUE!
I adore frayed-looking jeans but most people think I'm CRAZY. I find them sexy!
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend! Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
X to you and Mo
Hey there Barb~
ReplyDeleteI just got in from meeting up with my blogging buddies and we had a AWESOME time. We SCREAMED from excitement when we saw each other! We've been trying to do this for over a year, but this week it worked out perfect for ALL of us!
I will most likely be posting about it sometime next week.
"We have been there too, haven't we? I LOVE these types of initiatives."
Yup....we sure did! And YOU were my very FIRST!
"Oh boy, look at the veteran jean of yours... A survivor, that one! God now, we can't have the shole world peeping at your jockeys, can't we?"
HA! Aren't they something? They look like I walked through a WAR ZONE! But OMG...they are SO COMFORTABLE, I can't bare to throw them out!
"I share the love of soft clothes; a fluffy towel, clean, soft sheets and clothes that just caress your skin."
You said it, my friend! LOVE them soft!
"Awwhhh; what a sweet memory to have about your grandmother's house.
Really special."
While I was writing this post, I suddenly had a memory of my grandmothers bed linens, so I had to include it. I can STILL remember how they felt. Truly, the softest sheets I've ever felt.
Thanks a bunch for stopping by, Barb! Always FAB to see your comments. Have a wonderful weekend!
And yes....you and I will be departing soon on our summer trips!! I'm so excited and I bet you are too!
((((( Barb ))))))
X to you and D!
Hey there Mary~
ReplyDelete"A clothesline!!! Like in the backyard, drying in the warm sun. Oooh, so '70's, right? LOL When she walked closer to chat I noticed the little wooden clothespin in her hand. Ahh... memories of childhood! My mom used to hang her laundry out."
OMG...you just brought back a TON of wonderful memories for me because, YES, I do remember my mother hanging our sheets on a clotheline with clothespins during the summer months. And you're so right, the smell was faabulous because it was fresh and natural! I also remember the sound they would make when the wind hit them and they'd flap in the air.
Memories light the corners of my mind - HA!
"Not to mention, stiff elastic, weird sleeves, scratchy material, itchy tags, etc. It took me over 2 hours to buy 3 shirts and 1 pair of pants."
I so know what you mean because I'm the same way. I MUST try things on to see how the FEEl. Also, I am small waisted that it's impossible to find a MENS jeans in my size. Plus, my inseem is short. And let's not even talk about trying to find SHOES because my foot size in a 7 1/2 - 8, so it's impossible. I usually end up buying stuff in the YOUNG MENS department!
"Good God. $65 for stretch capri's."
OH. MY. GOD....$65.????????? Oh, but I love capri pants and I'm so glad to hear you got them for only $35.
"I can't even believe that people shop at that place you linked and pay $200 or more for jeans. OMFG! Even if I HAD that kind of money, they just couldn't be comfortable enough or worth that much."
DITTO! And that's why I shared the link because I cannot believe anyone would pay that much for JEANS! And some of the pricing goes up to $300!!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by, neighbor. I always enjoy our chats! Have a glorious weekend because the weather is going to be PERFECT. NO HEAT!
Yes, I will be posting about our meeting sometime next week. We had GREAT time!!!!!

Hiya Suzi~
ReplyDelete"I hate shopping for new jeans...and breaking them in is even worse."
Oh god, me too! Which is why I'm dreading this 'breaking in time." I thought that by purchasing new jeans back in April, they would be broken in already, but noooooooooooooooooooo!
Oh well, I do hope for some ACID rain - HA!
Thanks for stopping by, my friend. Wishing you a beautiful weekend!
X
Hiya Linda~
ReplyDelete"i guess not because i WOULD spend ALL my rent on 1000tc egyptian cotton sheets AND pillow cases as well as the best hungarian WHITE goose down 800£ fill comforter-nothing from china, thank you very much."
HAHAHAHHAHA! Oh well, to each his own. And if spending money on those things makes you happy and feel good, why not? I feel the same way about computers, cameras, and technical stuff.
Wranglers for me are the best because they are more form-fitted for smaller people like myself and your husband. Calvin Klein also has great-fitting jeans, but I won't by them unless they're on sale.
Thank you SO MUCH for the washing tip!!! Yahhhhhhhhoooo.....I will try that! And no, I don't have my jeans dry cleaned, I wash them myself, so I can use your tip! Thanks again!
"... i bought a mercedes suv to get off this hill after sitting in every single expensive vehicle first to find the one that best suited me"
Linda, I was the SAME WAY when I owned and still drove a car! I would sit in so many, just to see how it FIT. But I think that's important in a car because it's kinda like buying a house, it has to FEEL just right!
Thanks so much for stopping by, dear friend. Have a lovely weekend!
Hope all is well with your shoulder....
((((( You ))))))

Hello again Kathy~
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say that I had such a great time meeting you and the girls today in person. It was like meeting up with old, good friends that I had known forever!
I will be emailing my photos to you and the others sometime this weekend.
Thanks again for such a wonderful time!

Hey there Bill~
ReplyDelete"Ron, I hate new shirts and have to wash them before I will wear them."
Meeeeeee too! Especially the stiff collars and sleeve cuffs.
"As for derrières? We are on the same wavelength there....."
*wink*
Aren't they the BEST?
And yes, I agree, I like H&M stuff. Especially their shirts because they sell them already soft. And you're right...their prices are GREAT! We have two of them here in Philly.
Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy! Have a wonderful weekend!
X to you and Paul!
Hiya Mark~
ReplyDelete"I agree - there's nothing like well-used sheets. Especially if you sleep naked. "
HAHAHAHA! Well, I don't sleep naked, but even so, I still like the feel of soft, well-used sheets.
The jeans I just got, I only paid $20.00 because I got them on sale. But I would NEVER pay the prices of Diesel jeans. OMG...they're outrageous!
"why do we call it a pair - because there are two pant legs? Well, duh - most people have two legs! It's a pair of socks, but really just one jean. We shouldn't even pluralize it."
Bwhahahahahahaha! That's a great observation and point! I think I'll google that sometime this weekend to see if I can find out, because you're right - why do we call it a PAIR of jeans!?!
Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have an awesome weekend!
X
P.S. I just got in from the meet up with my blogging buds and we had a wonderful time. I will most likely blog about it sometime next week.
Well.......I sure hope you had a wingding of a time, sir! Woooohooooo. Photos of the tour will be accepted, of course.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, I won't tell you how I squirmed when that photo of the old toothbrush greeted me with the post title......the good news is I'm all about old jeans and cotton sheets that have had the byjeepers washed out of 'em, hung dry in the breeze so they're softer than a baby's bottom. OHMYGOSH.......I so need to hang sheets this weekend--just for the smell.
But that was the 'old' way--and dryers with softner sheets just don't do the same for me.
Yup--hanging out sheets this weekend!! :-)
And old jeans? *sigh* Yeah.....notsomuch........
I have a difficult time finding Levis or any OTHER make of jeans that fit AND have the length that I need. I've run out of the 'normal' sizes and I'm just not willing to go into those slim cut, low rise--tighter than my own skin 'gee......you're NOT a teenage' kinda jeans with the stretchy stuff that announces to the WORLD I'm not a teenager anymore (even though that much is OBVIOUS....I don't wanna announce through those means, tyvm!). So I don't get to wear Levi's any more. *sigh*
I have one pair that I pretend aren't falling off--and I wear 'em around the house until they do fall off....LOL Then it's back into skirts and trying to make do differently.
But lemme assure you-- it's a cardinal sin to toss out old jeans..even with patches on the right side of the......ummm......or the left! You wear longer shirts and untuck 'em......or you get nifty dragonfly patches or sew on patches with a blanket stitch and go for a funky look! But for SURE you have to love 'em anyway and wear 'em when parental units aren't watching......LOLOL
*waving*
ReplyDeleteHiya Mel!
Yes...we had an AWESOME time! It's funny how when you meet up with people who you've been blogging with for years, how they always end up being exactly how you thought they would when you meet them in person! And yes, I will be posting photos sometime next week. In fact, we all just emailed each other our photos and are looking through them now.
"OHMYGOSH.......I so need to hang sheets this weekend--just for the smell.
But that was the 'old' way--and dryers with softner sheets just don't do the same for me."
No you're right, they don't. There is NOTHING like the feel and smell of hung-out-to-dry sheets. Dryer sheets don't do the same thing.
"I have a difficult time finding Levis or any OTHER make of jeans that fit AND have the length that I need. I've run out of the 'normal' sizes and I'm just not willing to go into those slim cut, low rise......"
I know exactly what you mean because I have the same problem. I'm small waisted and my inseam is also short, and they don't make MAN SIZE jeans in my size, so I end up having to get young boys jeans. I've always had a challenging time finding pants in general. I need a certain 'cut' to look good. I'm also not a very patient shopper because I really don't like shopping for clothes.
"But lemme assure you-- it's a cardinal sin to toss out old jeans..even with patches on the right side of the......ummm......or the left! You wear longer shirts and untuck 'em......or you get nifty dragonfly patches or sew on patches with a blanket stitch and go for a funky look!"
OMG...I love that! And I so agree! By the time jeans get to the point of REALLY fitting well, it's time to throw them out and I WON'T. I know it sounds funny, but they become like 'good friends' to me, so it breaks my heart to toss em'!
Thanks oodles for stopping by, dear lady! Have a glorious weekend!
(((((( You ))))))

P.S. this weekend the temps here are dropping down, and brother am I a happy camper. 94 degrees is waaaaay too hot.
Ron, I have to sleep on soft bed sheets too. As a matter of fact I have a spray called “linen” that I will spritz on my sheets right before bed time which makes them smell so fresh! And I feel like I’m sleeping on freshly laundered sheets!
ReplyDeleteMy jeans are disintegrating too and I’m having a heck of a time finding jeans that I like. I can’t stand jeans for women now-a-days. The rises are about two inches above fur and they are so damn uncomfortable. Plus you have to wear tops that are super long unless you want your underwear and stomach showing! WTH?
I’d settle for jeans that are dark if I could find them with a decent rise and I’d pay good money too. I can’t find them because I’m tall and thin and for some reason designers don’t think tall people are skinny.
I cracked up at your “crotch” patch. I just threw out a pair of jeans because they ripped from the back belt loop down to the crotch—my entire behind was showing! There was no way I could fix those suckers. I guess after years of wearing and washing they just gave out. So, if I don’t find jeans soon I’ll be running around in my underwear because more will be ripping/giving out ;-)
Have a fantabulous weekend and fun with your blogging buddies! How exciting!
I know what you mean Ron! I HATE getting into bed and feeling like I'm in a straightjacket!! And getting paper cuts....bwahahaha! It's possible with the quality of some of today's sheets!! You can pay an arm and a leg for what one thinks is fabulous quality sheets only to get home and find out that they are like an emery board!! And the jeans...do not EVEN get me started on the jeans!!! My sister irons everything...secretly I think underwear is included in that!! Her jeans are ironed!! And STIFF! Don't even know how she can walk in them. I shouldn't criticize, but I personally prefer them nice and s o f t!!!
ReplyDeleteOOOh! What FUN!!! Blogger Meetings ROCK!! I'm having my blogger friend over tomorrow!! Can't wait to hear all about your luncheon and tour!! One day I will get to Philly...I hope!! Have a terrific weekend Ron!! xo
Jeanne
Hey there Jeanne~
ReplyDelete" You can pay an arm and a leg for what one thinks is fabulous quality sheets only to get home and find out that they are like an emery board!!"
HAHHAHAHAHAHAA....an EMERY BOARD! Loved that!!!!!
"My sister irons everything...secretly I think underwear is included in that!! Her jeans are ironed!! And STIFF! Don't even know how she can walk in them."
OMG....she irons her jeans too?!?!? And me? I'm trying to get them UN-ironed. HA! Oh well, to each his own, right?
"Blogger Meetings ROCK!!"
You are soooooooooo right! And we had such an AWESOME time too! We've known each other for 3-4 years and were finally able to get together at a time when we all had the day free. Getting together with fellow-bloggers is like getting together with old friends. I've met some of the most wonderful people through blogging!
And yes, one of these days you and I will meet too!
Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have a terrific weekend! Isn't the weather gorgeous??
X to you and the girlz!
Hellooooooooo Pam~
ReplyDelete"As a matter of fact I have a spray called “linen” that I will spritz on my sheets right before bed time which makes them smell so fresh! And I feel like I’m sleeping on freshly laundered sheets!"
Oh, how cool! I've seen those sprays in stores before and often wondered how they were. I sometime use 'fresh linen' scented plug-ins in my apartment and LOVE the smell!
"I can’t find them because I’m tall and thin and for some reason designers don’t think tall people are skinny."
Yup, I know what you mean because they don't seem to make jeans for short and thin men either. I often buy jeans in the young men's department because they're the only ones that fit me. Plus, they're much cheaper.
"I just threw out a pair of jeans because they ripped from the back belt loop down to the crotch—my entire behind was showing! There was no way I could fix those suckers."
HA! That's exactly where the jeans you see in the collage are at, but I don't have the heart to throw them out. They're getting to the point where I honestly can't wear them out in public anymore because I look like a male stripper - HA!
Thanks a bunch for stopping by, Pam! Have a fantabulous weekend! Enjoy this beautiful weather we're having!

Ron, I feel the same way about certain things being old versus new. I definitely prefer older/used sheets to new ones. There is nothing more uncomfortable than new bed dressings. I also like purchasing previously owned pieces of furniture because it feels like they have a past.
ReplyDeleteI don't wear jeans much because I just don't feel like I look good in them. But if I do wear them, I like them soft and movable.
"And they’re still so stiff it feels I’m like wearing the Tin Man’s costume in “The Wizard of Oz.”
Oh, that was funny because I could picture it.
Have a wonderful weekend, Ron. Hope you had fun meeting your friends.
Hola Denise~
ReplyDelete"I also like purchasing previously owned pieces of furniture because it feels like they have a past."
OMG...I feel the same way, I can't believe you said that!!! I know this sounds strange, but I like purchasing something previously owned because it feels like the 'essence' of the previous owner is IN it and has been handed down. Does that make sense?
"Oh, that was funny because I could picture it."
I swear to god, that's exactly what it feels like - the TIN MAN!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by, girl! Enjoy a super-duper weekend!

hahah. those "new" jeans look tore up from the floor up, ron. but i know the comfort you speak of. i had a pair of jeans like that, torn, raggedy, holes, fraying and finally my mom asked if i were going to get rid of them. she's not used to seeing me look a mess, but they were the only jeans i had that fit and they felt like butter. now i have no jeans, not one pair. i've tried on several, but none fit like the pair i had, so i'm still searching. pooh.
ReplyDeleteHey there V Girl!
ReplyDelete" those "new" old jeans look tore up from the floor up, ron."
I know...don't they look RANKY??? I edited that one on PicMonkey, but I had no idea what I was doing. I just fiddled around with the special effects and it came out that way - HA!
I know exactly what you mean because I truly have such difficult time finding ANY kind of pants in my size, let alone jeans. Wranglers are the only brand that seems to fit me. All my dress pants are from the young men's department.
"and it was great meeting you. you are so cute, jumping up and down in the parking garage. we must do it again and this year in the big city."
Ditto, girl! Last night I called my mother and told her what a GREAT time I had meeting you gals. Yes, PLEASE, let's do this again. And next time in NYC!!!!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope you're having a wonderful weekend! Isn't the weather gorgeous? I've been out all day enjoying it.

If I were rich instead of so damn good looking ;) I'd have a new set of sheets on my bed once a week and I'd have them put on right out of a refrigerator. I love me some crisp cool sheets.
ReplyDeleteI wear Wrangler jeans too. I like the way they fit and they're a boat load less expensive than Levi's or many others. In fact I buy them at Kmart. It's the only time I go into that junky store too. I like to buy the washed or faded ones they have and they're not any more $$'s.
Glad you got to meet some blogging buddies. I got to do that a couple years ago and it was great.
Hey there Jeff~
ReplyDelete"I'd have a new set of sheets on my bed once a week and I'd have them put on right out of a refrigerator. I love me some crisp cool sheets."
OH. MY. GOD. You're kidding me??????? Oh well, to each his own :) Now, I DO like my sheets COOL, especially during the summer months. I'm one of those people who likes to FLIP my pillow while I sleep so that I'm laying on a COOL spot - HA! If I could fit my pillows in the fridge before I go to sleep I would!
"I wear Wrangler jeans too. I like the way they fit and they're a boat load less expensive than Levi's or many others. In fact I buy them at Kmart."
Yaaaaaaaaaay another Wrangler lover! That's where I bought these jeans too, Kmart. I'll have check the next time I'm there and see if they have the faded ones because I didn't see them when I bought these. And yes, isn't Kmart the JUNKIEST store ever? The one here in Philly looks like war zone.
We had a blast meeting up. I will probably be posting about it sometime next week!
Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy! Always great to see ya! Hope you're enjoying a faaaaaabulous weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. we finally got some cooler weather this weekend after being hit with a heatwave last week - OY!
I understand wanting the "lived in" feel.
ReplyDeleteHellooooooooooooo Peg~
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the GREATEST feeling????
COMFY.
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Hope you had a great weekend and got a bit of rest in because you deserve it.
(((( You )))))
X to you and D!
Nonononono...can just try to forget that there ever things known as "acid wash jeans"? That's a part of the 80's I'm glad is firmly stuck in the rearview mirror. *shudder* ;-)
ReplyDeleteHey there Herman~
ReplyDelete"That's a part of the 80's I'm glad is firmly stuck in the rearview mirror. *shudder* ;-)"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA! Right?
And if you ever check out the prices for acid-washed jeans at Diesel, you will DIE!
You could probably buy a used car, cheaper!
Thanks for stopping by, buddy. Hope you and the family had a wonderful weekend!
X to you, Karin, and Mr. Tyler!
I have to agree with Herman. Acid wash is terrible. But, I totally understand the comfort of faded and well worn jeans. There's that sweet spot when you've gotten them just to the perfect point of wear. Then, I just want to keep them in suspended animation forever.
ReplyDeleteHey there Jen~
ReplyDelete"I have to agree with Herman. Acid wash is terrible"
Especially the ones that Diesels sells. They look like hideous! And for the prices they charge, it's ridiculous!
" I totally understand the comfort of faded and well worn jeans. There's that sweet spot when you've gotten them just to the perfect point of wear."
Ah....you said it! That sweet spot!
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend! Have a grrreat week!

Hey Ron, those old jeans of yours look very similar to a pair I once owned, sans the denim iron on patch. They were without a doubt the most comfortable jeans I owned. Sadly, I eventually tossed them.
ReplyDelete"Jeans are like wine, they get better with age."
I agree! Breaking in a new pairs of jeans sucks.
Wranglers are also my favorite brand because they wear long, fit well, and they're inexpensive. I mean they're jeans, so I don't want to spend a fortune on them.
Howdy Robert~
ReplyDelete"They were without a doubt the most comfortable jeans I owned. Sadly, I eventually tossed them."
I have a feeling that eventually I'll have to do the same thing because they're falling apart so much, that I can't even cut them into shorts. :(
"Wranglers are also my favorite brand because they wear long, fit well, and they're inexpensive. I mean they're jeans, so I don't want to spend a fortune on them."
Exactly! I love Wranglers!
Thanks for stopping by, pal. Have a super week!

Hahahahahahaha! Brilliant!! And I am SO with you.
ReplyDeleteI always, always, always wash clothing and bedlinen before I use or wear the things. Rough and scratchy I do not do. And like you, I hate buying new jeans and put it off as long as possible. Even then I can't throw the old ones out, because of course jeans with pockets hanging off, frayed bottoms and the crotch hanging out might come in handy, for .... um ... something!
Have you tried bleaching those new jeans? Might be quickly than waiting for the steamroller and acid rain!
*waving*
ReplyDeleteHiya Jay!
Tee, hee...aren't I silly man?

I soooooooooo hear ya, my friend! I too put it off as long as possible. That's why I got these jeans MONTHS ago, so that they would have time to fade and loosen up.
"Have you tried bleaching those new jeans? Might be quickly than waiting for the steamroller and acid rain!"
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA! If they don't fade soon, I may just try that. Thanks for the suggestion!!!!
*two thumbs up*

hope you had a fun blogger reunion :) sounds so exciting! One day those new jeans will be your favorite old jeans...but I wonder how long that really takes? I need to scan your comments to see if any readers have a great idea for softening up new jeans. xo, diane
ReplyDeleteHey there Diane~
ReplyDeleteYes, we a wonderful time during out blogger reunion! I will be posting about it tomorrow!
"One day those new jeans will be your favorite old jeans...but I wonder how long that really takes?"
God, I hope so because so far they feel like I'm wearing a TIN SUIT - HA!
Actually, some of my readers gave me GREAT advice on how to soften both the texture and color of the jeans. Hope it works before I leave at the end of the month!
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend! Hope all is well and that you're enjoying the month June!
Much X to you and Cristybella!
Have you considered finding jeans at a thrift store or consignment shop? "Gently used" would be way better than brand new.
ReplyDeleteI always mourn the loss of a well worn pair of jeans. I can usually get two-three years out of them before the crotch or inner thighs blow out. I suppose I could patch them (i do own a sewing machine and even know how to darn), but meh...too much work, and us girls love to shop. I have learned that air drying my jeans after washing makes them last much longer.
Hiya Tara~
ReplyDeleteThat's a GREAT idea!
I've actually purchased items from a consignment shop, but never thought to look for jeans!?! I've gotten some great clothing items (and inexpensive) out of consignment.
" I can usually get two-three years out of them before the crotch or inner thighs blow out. "
Me too! And I've gotten WAY over that amount with my old jeans. I think probably about FIVE years, so I should be grateful.
"I have learned that air drying my jeans after washing makes them last much longer."
I try to let my jeans dry about half way and then take them out of the dryer to air dry. But maybe I will take your advice and let them air dry totally.
Great advice!
Hey, maybe you should start a blog on giving helpful tips and advice!!!
And you could call it...."Tara's Tips"
Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a maaaavlalous weekend!
