Post updates by email:

Since I’ve been posting photos of my Florida vacation for the past month, I thought it was time I shared some recent images I captured of urban life – or as I like to refer to it - Urbandelphia.

*That’s a new word I just made up. Don’t you LOVE it? HA!

Now before I share my photos, I want to share something I found extremely odd but, also utterly amusing.

When I returned to Philly after being in Florida for two weeks and driving a car, I noticed that when I took my first long walk in the city, I forgot how to. It was the strangest feeling traipsing down Walnut Street on my way to Barnes and Noble because I literally couldn’t get my bearings straight. And I don’t mean direction bearings, I mean walking bearings. It was like in the two weeks that I’d been away from a city environment, I forgot how to move. And for those of you who live in a city, I think you understand what I’m talking about – people in a city move to a different rhythm.

The only way I can describe it would be that I felt as though I was walking through a sea of thick, heavy corn syrup and I couldn’t get my walking momentum in gear. The city was moving at 65 mph and yet, I was moving at 10.

I must have looked like some crazy drug addict who was coming down from a high, because my legs felt wobbly and I was swaying. At one point I had to grab onto a street mailbox to stop myself from falling – I kid you not!

Well, as the days progressed, I eventually got my walking bearings back; returning to my normal warp speed.

But isn’t that odd?

Anyway, here are the photos I promised to share.

Please enjoy….

As most of you already know the retailer, Anthropologie, is one of my favorite stores in which to take photos, so these first five images are from there.

Bedding display

Closer look at the exquisite bed canopy

Book and candle display

A display created from an old soda fountain. I adore the distressed look of the wood.

I took this close up shot of a single light bulb, which was part of a lighting display in the store.

The jewelry district in lower Center City, Philadelphia

Sky reflected off the glass entrance of an office building

View down an underground parking garage

A precious little daisy, peeking through a fence. It looks like it's waving.

Thank you for taking this tour of Urbandelphia.

Wishing you the most awesome weekend everyone!

  1. Good morning Ronnie,
That is a cool word, Urbandelphia! Good one ;)
I am loving your pics. Now, whenever D & I will be in Philly in the future, we must see Anthropoligie.
I think a lot of women are looking at the canopy bed and going Ooooh!!
What a cool old china hutch( at least I think it is that). These people really have a sense of style. Things are always arranged so nicely.

Now, you got me chuckling something bad because I think that you got what they call in HI "Polynesian paralysis". Coming from somewhere where it is so laid back, people take their time and already where it can be so hot that moving can make you sweat buckets on some days.
The dude had it... :)Too funny and so right. I feel that too when I come back from HI.

Sending lots of love down to Urbandelphia and to you xox .

  2. Urbandelphia! That could definitely catch on. Keep saying it to folk and see how quickly it spreads.

Good morning, Ron. I would give anything to wander around Anthropologie. It's my kind of store as well. There's so much to look at and drool over. I'm very good at drooling over lovely household things.

Great pictures, especially of the store, but Oooooh I do like the daisy poking it's head through the fence.

Interesting about the walking, I'm wondering now if that is the reason I don't walk so well once out of the car. Too much driving and not enough walking... Hmmm, maybe! I know a body walks differently on the street to how he/she does at home but I hadn't related it to over-use of the car.

    Wishing you a fabulous weekend.

  3. Hey, Ron, thanks for the guided tour of Urbandelphia! These photos were fabulous and they remind me that I have to get down to Philly again real soon. That's funny about losing your city walk. When my niece from San Francisco was a little girl, she'd always complain about having to walk everywhere whenever she visited us. I said, "look, kid, this is New York. We walk here!" Have a picture perfect weekend, buddy, and keep on walking!

  4. Good morning Barb~

"That is a cool word, Urbandelphia! Good one ;)"!

HA! Aren't I silly??? I suddenly thought of that word yesterday, when I wrote this post.

Thank you. OMG, you and D will LOVE Anthropologie. Not only is it a very cool place to shop, but they way have their merchandise displayed is just AWESOME. It's a place that you just HAVE to take pictures of!

Barb, it was so funny because I think I was still in my 'Florida mode' when I first got back to Philly because I COULD NOT get myself moving. I literally felt in SLOW MOTION!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a wonderful weekend! We're getting a lot of rain right now, so I think this weekend is gonna be a wet one!

    X to you and D!

  5. Hey there Rob~

Thanks, buddy. Yes! One of these days you have GOT to get down to Philly because I would so enjoy giving you a little tour and just hanging out. Also, I'm thinking of coming to NYC in the next couple of months, so maybe we can meet up if it works out for you.

" When my niece from San Francisco was a little girl, she'd always complain about having to walk everywhere whenever she visited us. I said, "look, kid, this is New York. We walk here!"

HAHAHHAHHAHAHA! OMG...that is too funny because I've said the same thing to people who have come to visit me here. I've had certain people actually wanted to take a CAB instead of walking 10 blocks. I'm like, "No way....this is a CITY...we WALK!"

Thanks so much for stopping by, Rob. Have a picture perfect weekend!

  6. Goooood morning Valerie~

"Urbandelphia! That could definitely catch on. Keep saying it to folk and see how quickly it spreads."

HA! Yeah, maybe I can patent it and make a FORTUNE!!!

" I would give anything to wander around Anthropologie. It's my kind of store as well. There's so much to look at and drool over. I'm very good at drooling over lovely household things."

OMG...you would LOVE this store! It has FOUR levels so there is so much to see and drool over. It use to be a mansion that was privately owned, which they bought and converted into the flag ship store of Anthropologie. The place has such a wonderful atmosphere. And it's an awesome place to take photos!

Thanks. Isn't that little daisy precious? I saw it sitting there one day, so I had to take its picture - HA!

It was the strangest thing because I hadn't been out of the city in YEARS, so after driving around in a car for two weeks, it's like forgot how to walk in a city! I love to walk because it keeps me moving and grooving - it's good exercise for the heart and legs.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, dear lady. Have a super weekend!

  7. Love it Ron, Urbandelphia! You make laugh.

Wonderful photos. I especially love the ones inside the store. That canopy is magnificent. It looks like something from the Elizabethan Era. The shot of the light bulb is so cool because the detail pops against the black background. And the little daisy is so sweet!

    Have a wonderful weekend, Ron.

  8. Hola Denise~

"That canopy is magnificent. It looks like something from the Elizabethan Era."

Isn't it freakin' stunning? And you're right, it does look like something from the Elizabethan Era! I stood there and stared at it; wondering what I angles I wanted to shoot it at. I wanted to shoot it from the second level, so you could get an 'above view' but I left the story; totally forgetting to do it :(

I edited that light bulb shot by darkening the background after I uploaded to my computer. The background was originally a white wall, but thought the black would make it stand out more.

Thanks oodles for stopping by, girl. Have a flawless weekend!

" Whenever we went on holiday to Greece or Turkey we would have difficulty getting back into the way of walking here after 2 weeks of 'ambling' along."

HA! Isn't that something? I felt totally like a walking SPAZ when I first got back!

And btw, I would love to visit both Greece AND Turkey. I knew a woman in Florida who owned a travel agency and she said that Turkey was her all-time favorite places to visit!

Have a MARVI weekend, m' dear. And thanks for stopping by!

  11. It's definitely a different pace outside of a big city. If I ever went back to London, I think I'd trip people up with my slow walking pace now.

Lovely photos! I love the daisy :)

  12. Hiya Babs~

Thank you. I saw that little daisy sitting there and it just BEGGED to be photographed - HA!

"It's definitely a different pace outside of a big city."

Yes, isn't that something? And you don't full realize it until you leave the city for a while and then return.

One of these days I have got to visit London because I hear such great things about it!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Babs. Have lovely weekend!

Great pictures Ron, I do love the soda fountain

  16. OH!! New word alert!! :-)
    I'm a word freak....LOL...so I LOVE it!

And I adore the photos, how could you not. I love the cute little flowery guy.......but honestly, the one I went back for multiple times--the light bulb. Awesome! I LOVE it hugely. Might be the simplicity--might be the reflections...might just be cuz it's COOL. LOL

And I'm the same way as you--I spend time outta my element and I have this 'readjustment period' that happens. I feel 'off' in the house, even--everything's a different pace with a different .....ummmm......aura/vibration/feel to it? Not sure how to describe it. Instead of getting that 'home' feeling that folks seem to get, I get the 'stranger in my own home' feel so pardon me while I remind myself where I am and switch gears to 'readjust'.

I'm holding on to railings, stumbling around rugs that were there when I left so it ain't like they were moved for crying out loud...pulling doors harder than I planned.....or needed....and staring at counters wondering what's been moved or changed when nothing's been moved or changed.
    Yeah...bit odd....LOL

I'm just glad they didn't haul you off and force ya to do a breath-a-lizer test....LOL NOT that you woulda failed and BOY what a fun blog material that woulda been......

Hey......maybe that 'adjustment period' explains posting your underthings for the world to see...... :-/

Feel free to borrow that one! LOLOLOL

Aw, thank you, glad you enjoyed the pics. I love soda fountain too. In fact, it's one of my favorites. I love the look of the distressed wood.

HAHHAHAHA! Must be a Libra thing, hu? I LOVE to make up words!!!

Thank you, glad enjoyed the photos.

"but honestly, the one I went back for multiple times--the light bulb. "

That's one of my favs. I've always wanted to take a close up of a light bulb, so that you could see the INSIDE. I had to fiddle with the background color when I was editing it because I thought the black would make the bulb stand out more. That photo took me a while to edit.

" I feel 'off' in the house, even--everything's a different pace with a different .....ummmm......aura/vibration/feel to it? Not sure how to describe it. Instead of getting that 'home' feeling that folks seem to get, I get the 'stranger in my own home' feel so pardon me while I remind myself where I am and switch gears to 'readjust'."

YES!!!!! That's exactly how I felt, you described it PERFECTLY! The vibration felt odd at first. And that was me too, I felt as though I was a stranger in my own city.

"Hey......maybe that 'adjustment period' explains posting your underthings for the world to see...... :-/"

Bwhahahhahahahahaha! OMG...I bet your RIGHT!!!! Mel, you CRACKED ME UP!!!!

love your photos as always and anthro is one of my fave places tho i rarely go down to the city to see one. i do buy online all the time from them. and sundance, another fave. and i love your little daisy, so sweet. xoxxo

Thank you, glad to enjoyed the photos. Isn't Anthropologie the BOMB? I love to take photos inside the store because there is so much to see. I could spend hours in there!

  35. Fantastic photos! Really like the tint you're employing. Are you using a filter? My favorites are the bedding display and the underground garage.

And yes, I've heard of this city phenomena, where you're either in the vibe or your on the outside looking in, and struggling just to get from point A to point B. But, much like sailing, I'm sure you'll be getting your "sea legs" back in no time! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Howdy Herman~

Thank you :) No, I'm not using a filter on my camera because I only have a Nikon point and shoot, so it's nothing fancy. However, what I did was edit some of these of photos at Picmonkey, by adjusting the tint, lighting, and focus. I LOVE Picmonkey!
