I love me the Dollar Store.

I mean where else can you walk in with $10.00 and walk out with TEN items and feel like you just had a shopping spree at Bergdorf Goodman's in NYC? Except you don't leave with a Bergdorf Goodman's shopping bag, you leave with this....

However, throughout these many years of shopping in a Dollar Store, I’ve discovered certain things that are just not worth spending a dollar on because that’s all the quality you get.

A dollar's worth.

No, wait. Not even a dollar. More like 25 cents.

Shower Curtain Liners

The shower curtain liners you get at the Dollar Store are made of the most FLIMSY vinyl plastic that was ever invented.

It looks like real plastic; smells like real plastic (a Barbie doll head); feels slightly like real plastic.

But what it really is…is TISSUE PAPER.

OMG, if you even LOOK at them the wrong way, they tear.

I bet the longest I’ve ever kept a shower curtain liner from the Dollar Store was four weeks. So if you add up all the $$$'s I spent on Dollar Store showers curtain liners over the years, I probably could have paid for a week timeshare in Cancun; including a butler wearing only a Speedo, who feeds me red grapes one by one.

I just recently had to replace another shower curtain liner (which I had purchased at the Dollar Store) because it was so torn and shredded, it looked as though Norman Bates from the movie, Psycho, tried to SLASH me to death with a butcher knife while taking a shower, through the curtain.

I kid you not. The shower curtain liner had HUGE tears in it. I barely had enough left hanging on the rod to even call it a shower curtain liner because half of it had torn off the hooks.

Yup, so I'm finished with purchasing Dollar Store shower curtain liners.

Two words.

They SUCK.

Can Opener

I made the foolish mistake of purchasing a manual can opener at the Dollar Store earlier this year, because I didn’t feel like walking two more blocks to CVS to get one.

BIG mistake.

When I got home, I tried it out on a small can of Healthy Choice Chicken and Rice Soup, only to discover that when I inserted the can opener blade into the rim and then turned the handle to cut open the lid, the handle snapped off.

Cheap piece of CRAP!!!

Joke: What do you call a can opener that is broken?

Answer: A CAN'T opener.

Bwhahahahahahahahaha!

Scotch Tape

I think the same stuff that the Dollar Store uses to make their shower curtain liners is the same stuff they use to make their scotch tape – TISSUE PAPER.

I dare you to try and start the roll without it TEARING every single time you TOUCH it.

And if you CAN start the roll, I dare you to try and get the scotch tape to STICK. Dollar Store scotch tape has literally no adhesive power. I would probably get more stick power if I just used my own SPIT.

The last time I purchased scotch tape from the Dollar Store, I got so aggravated from trying to start the roll that I opened one of the windows in my apartment and FLUNG IT OUT over the city of Philadelphia, 21 floors from above the ground.

Two seconds later, I suddenly thought...

“Shit…I hope it didn’t hit a pedestrian on the head.”

Well, at least I finally figured out a way to get it to STICK.

  1. OMG. "A CAN'T opener." Good one, Ron. We had what must have been a Dollar Store shower curtain liner in the London hotel we stayed at. Dave figured out a way to keep it from flying back (due to its thinness) by bunching up the magnets on the bottom up on the top of the tub ledge. Worked for him. Didn't work for me. Still flooded the bathroom. You would think that a ritzy hotel would spend a little more to keep their rooms from being drowned like that. But whatever. The last morning when we had to leave, it was particularly flooded and I had to take use an entire bath towel to sop it up. WTF, people!

  2. Hey, everybody, it's time for Ronnie's Consumer Shopping Tips!

"Psycho" references, "can't openers" and scotch tape flying through the air--I love it!

"So if you add up all the $$$'s I spent on Dollar Store showers curtain liners over the years, I probably could have paid for a week timeshare in Cancun; including a butler wearing only a Speedo, who feeds me red grapes one by one."

    Wow--I could just picture that!

There are these cheapie stores all over my neighborhood and while the prices are tempting, you do have to be careful about alleged "bargains."

The crappy tape really strikes a familiar note and I'm glad you tossed it out the window!

Great advice in a very funny post. Nice going, buddy; you've earned that Speedo-wearing butler!

    Take care!

  3. I had one of those Can't Openers but it wasn't from the Pound Shop (equivalent to your Dollar Store). Mine was from a large department store that sells over-priced goods; I wouldn't mind so much if it had only cost £1. As for pseudo sticky tape, I had plenty of those too. Frustrating isn't a strong enough word to describe my view of them. Shower curtains, well I spend money on those.... it pays off in the long run. I've had mine for years and there's no tear anywhere.

Our Pound Shops have taken over the cities, but I had to smile the other week when I saw another establishment that tried to outdo the Pound Shop. It was called the Ninety-Nine Pence Shop!

Hope you have a marvellous Monday.

PS... Disqus doesn't want to know me again... going to post as a guest and see if that works!

  4. Sometimes it's better to pay a bit more. Still one can get some real bargains at £1 ($1) stores, except Scotch Tape, it's always useless.

  5. Bwahahaha...perhaps the shower curtain in Psycho was the idea behind the design or someone had lots of "tissue paper" to use up, lol! Now that you've posted the things not to buy at the dollar store, you need to do one on the things worth purchasing for a buck!

  6. Ron, I'm at work reading this and laughing my butt off. What a great way to start a dreary and wet Monday morning. The part about you taking a shower and your reference to Norman Bates is hysterical! Loved the last photo too!

I like shopping at the Dollar Store for things such as trash bags, cleaning products and gift wrapping items, but that's about it. One time I got some candles and they were the worst because they didn't burn properly and made a mess over all my table.

You're right, their Scotch tape is useless.

Thanks for making laugh, Ron. Have a wonderful week.

  7. Hi Ronnie,

I got a big kick imagining Ron throwing a roll of scotch tape off of a 30 floor building...I hope that it didn't piss someone off in turn by getting a surprise UFO on their head!

Ronnie has invented a new Olympic event " Scotch tape dispenser throwing" :)

You have to pick in choose in dollar stores. We don't have dollar stores but we have oriental bazar type stores that have equally cheap imported goods.
I do think that for shower liners and their importance(day in and out), you might want to invest in a good one that will last you longer.

That handle breaking off the can opener is frustrating and useless... I hope that you had a backup( we have a small old fashioned opener for times like these).

I think that dollar stores are OK for the non-important or fun stuff but if it's important to you or you use it intensely, you are probably better springing CVS or Walmart.

Have a great day you scotch taper thrower, you!

Bwhahahahahahahaha! OMG, Barb...that made me HOWL! Brilliant, my friend!!!

"I do think that for shower liners and their importance(day in and out), you might want to invest in a good one that will last you longer."

Yes, you're right and I've learned that. The one I have now is of much better quality. Also, it's mildew resistant which I love because during the humid summer months, the shower AND shower curtain seem to accumulate mildew overnight.

"That handle breaking off the can opener is frustrating and useless... I hope that you had a backup( we have a small old fashioned opener for times like these)."

No, I didn't have a backup, so I had to walk over to CVS and purchase another one.

Yup...the Dollar Store is great from some things, but not all.

Thanks for stopping by and have a terrific week!

    X to you and D!

  9. Good morning Debbie!

"Yes, a Dollar Tree offers up some decent bargains -- 50 doggie pickup bags for poop at $1, comes to mind -- but as with anything, you've got to watch what you buy. I've never tried a shower curtain or tape from there (thanks for the warning!), but you can get some decent deals on stuff like toothbrushes."

I agree! I also like to get my cleaning products there because they carry name-brand products for a DOLLAR. Also, trash because I use so many trash bags in a week.

    ""Can't" opener? Love it!"

I found that joke online. Isn't it funny?

"You flung tape out your window 21 floors up? Mercy, let's hope you didn't hit anybody -- that thing could've felt like a missile hurling toward the earth, ha!"

Yup, I did. Aren't I wicked? I couldn't help it though because I got so flustered that I just threw it. However, I didn't hear any yells coming from the street, so I don't think I hit anyone -HA!

Thanks for stopping by, dear lady. Wishing you a super Monday and week!

  10. Helloooooooooooo Dave!!!!

"I bought a spice rack at the dollar store once and when I got it home it only had 2 of the 8 screws secured and the other six were not in the box."

OMG...you're kidding me?!?! See, that's what I mean, some things are great, but others are just not worth it.

" Go in there and get about 12 items and ask to do a price check on each one."

    Bwhahahahahahahahaha! How HILARIOUS!!!

" You can always count on this place to get a greeting card at the last minute though."

Yes, I agree! The cards are SUCH a great price because normally greeting cards are OVER $5.00!!

Thanks for stopping by, buddy. Always FAB to see ya! Have a super week!

  11. Ron, you're a pisser! The way you describe things is too damn funny, dude.

" it looked as though Norman Bates from the movie, Psycho, tried to SLASH me to death with a butcher knife while taking a shower, through the curtain."

Between that and the photo from the movie, I cracked up. And that last image is a riot!

No to the scotch tape and no to the shower curtain liners. I've purchased both and it's not worth it. The only time I like using their shower curtains is if I have some painting to do and use them as a drip guard for the carpet.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hey there Matt!

Glad you had a laugh, buddy.

    I love the movie, Psycho.

That last photo I found online, isn't it freakin' HILARIOUS??? When I saw it, I knew I had to use it.

"The only time I like using their shower curtains is if I have some painting to do and use them as a drip guard for the carpet."

Hey, that's a great idea, which I never thought about! The next time I need to paint something, I will use them. Thanks for your recommendation!

Have a super week and much thanks for stopping by!

  13. That made me laugh! Purely because Mo keeps buying tape from these shops and I keep telling her they are rubbish and don't stick anything. She goes out to replace it, can't remember where she bought the one that doesn't stick, so ends up buying it in the same shop and guess what? It doesn't stick!

  14. " smells like real plastic (a Barbie doll head)"

Ron, that made me laugh out loud. I've never smelled a Barbie doll head before, so now all I have to do is smell a shower curtain liner and I'll know! Tell me, what ever made you smell a Barbie doll head? Inquiring minds like mine want to know.

I know what you mean about Dollar Store scotch tape because I've been there, done that and it worthless. Also, I've always been scared to try the food products they sell there because I wonder about the freshness. One thing I do like about the Dollar Store are the reading glasses because I'm forever losing or breaking my glasses. But for a dollar, who cares, right? I will sometimes buy 5 pairs to have them on hand.

Love the joke about the broken CAN't opener!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hey ho Robert!

"Tell me, what ever made you smell a Barbie doll head? Inquiring minds like mine want to know."

Bwhahahahahahahaha! First of all I LOVE to smell stuff, so when I was a kid I used to smell my sisters' dolls (I kid you not). The smell is faaaaaaabulous! Kinda like a new beach ball or Colorforms that kids play with. Anyway, that's exact what shower curtain liners smell like too! And I'm not the only person who feels this way about the smell of Barbie doll heads and plastic, because I read so many things online about other people who love that aroma as well.

" Also, I've always been scared to try the food products they sell there because I wonder about the freshness."

Other than gum, I've never bought any food-type thing at the Dollar Store. Scares me to think how old that stuff is.

"One thing I do like about the Dollar Store are the reading glasses because I'm forever losing or breaking my glasses."

OMG...I do the same thing! I buy so many pairs of reading glasses at the Dollar Store and keep a pair at work, a pair in my camera bag, and a pair at home. I break and lose them constantly, so it's great to have them on hand.

Thanks for stopping by, buddy! Have a super-duper week!

    Bwhahahahahahaha! OMG...how FUNNY!!!!

I once bought a few rolls at the Dollar Store and didn't want to waste them by just tossing them out, so I kept thinking that maybe it was just one roll and not the others. But noooooooooo....they were ALL that way!

    CRAP.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, Babs. Have a super-duper week!

Much X to you and Mo!

  17. Thanks for explaining, Ron. That is just too funny! And as soon as you mentioned the smell of a new beach ball, I instantly knew what you meant by the smell of a Barbie doll head because I've smelled a beach ball before!

Do you know what I love the smell of? Crayons.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes, the smell of crayons!

Almost as good a Barbie doll head, but not quite.

    HA!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Haha! I love the Norman Bates reference! I have to agree though...as much as I love the dollar store some things just need to be splurged on just a little. I have found that some of my favorite snacks should also not be purchased at the dollar store. Ever tried a box of animal crackers? ALWAYS stale...dissapointing...awesome post as always!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ooh, one thing that freaks me out a little about cities is the idea that someone wil pitch something from a window and it will pick up enough velocity to do some serious damage. Even relatively small objects could crack a skull.

I like reading glasses from the dollar store and have also gotten some good book deals. Other things are over-priced at a dollar for sure. And after all, something that break instantly isn't worth even a penny. Once I bought a bag of kitchen sponges and some of them were so thin they wee unusable. Good to know about the shower curtain liners. But I'm actually not a fan of that smell - I have to hand new ones outside for a couple of days first. Makes me a little light-headed just thinking about it!

  21. Hey there Shae!

I just couldn't resist making the reference to Norman Bates; thinking about that old shower curtain liner because that's what it looked like!

"I have found that some of my favorite snacks should also not be purchased at the dollar store. Ever tried a box of animal crackers? ALWAYS stale...dissapointing.."

    Yes, I can believe that!

The only thing I have ever purchase (food wise) from the Dollar Store was gum. Yet, I've watched customers buy cans of sardines and thought, "OMG...FOOD POISONING!!!"

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a faaaaaaabulous week!

  22. ha. this made me laugh. smells like real plastic (a Barbie doll head). ron, shower curtain liners are one thing i will buy from the dollar store because they cost a dollar. yeah they are cheap, but i don't mind replacing them. i can keep them for a while or either i'm not bathing as much as i used to. hmmmm.

a can opener i would never buy from there. i hate cheap CAN'T openers. i need that sucker to work, so i broke down and bought one that cost more than i ever thought i would spend on one. that bad boy works though all the time.

tape, i'll buy tape anywhere. chances are it's going in the garbage anyway. i did buy my last 4 rolls at staples though.

  23. Hey there Secret Agent Woman~

"about cities is the idea that someone wil pitch something from a window and it will pick up enough velocity to do some serious damage. Even relatively small objects could crack a skull."

Yes, I totally understand your feelings because I too have thought the same thing. My fear is that a window unit air conditioner will fall out of a window and hit me on the head. I honestly don't make a habit of throwing stuff out my windows, but this time I did. And I didn't hear any screams, so I don't THINK it hit anyone - HA!

LOVE the reading glasses you can get at the Dollar Store for sure. I will sometimes buy SEVERAL pairs at one time.

"Once I bought a bag of kitchen sponges and some of them were so thin they wee unusable."

Thank you for mentioning that because I feel the same way about the sponges. Too thin.

". But I'm actually not a fan of that smell - I have to hand new ones outside for a couple of days first. Makes me a little light-headed just thinking about it!"

HA! I must be very rough-handed when I open and close the curtain because mine always tears within a few weeks. This last one was the worst thought. I think I had two pieces of plastic left on the hooks.

I agree about spending the money on can openers because it's worth it. The one I have now is awesome. I got it at CVS for like $6.99.

As far as tape goes, I have to buy the REAL stuff (like Scotch brand) because I find all the other stuff (like Dollar Store tape) not usable.

  25. Several years ago I brought my friend to the dollar store. She'd never been to one because she has lots 'o dollars to spend and doesn't need the dollar store. Lemme tell you, she was horrified because it, "smelled funny"! Probably 'cause no one was spritzing expensive perfume at her. :D I can't imagine life without the dollar store.

Also, don't buy toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, that kind of stuff. I read an article about it, apparently some of the products are not made for US consumption.

I'll be doing a post about some books I found at the dollar store. Great stuff!

(Remind me to tell you the time I took the same friend to the second-hand clothes store and there was a transsexual in there - made the dollar store episode look tame!)

OMG...that cracked me up!!!! I bet she WAS horrified!

"I can't imagine life without the dollar store."

Me neither! I LOVE the Dollar Store! In fact, when I was visiting my family in Florida last July, my mother and I went into a Dollar Store (it was a Dollar Tree on Federal Hwy in Boynton) and I was soooooo impressed with all the GREAT they had. I mean it was like a Dollar Store like no other. It was like a SUPER Dollar Store.

"don't buy toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, that kind of stuff. I read an article about it, apparently some of the products are not made for US consumption."

WOW...that was so interesting to read. And yet, I can believe it because some of there 'oddly packaged' products look so weird. Like they're not real.

Can't wait to read about the books you found in the Dollar Store! I bought several books there as well. In fact, I got a REALLY great dictionary there.

"(Remind me to tell you the time I took the same friend to the second-hand clothes store and there was a transsexual in there - made the dollar store episode look tame!)"

I was cracking up the entire time.

I too love the dollar store but there are definitely items not worth a buck, probably not twenty five cents. I put paper towels in your shower curtain and scotch tape category. Paper towels are supposed to absorb, right? Well, you need the whole damn roll for one frickin' spill.

That "Can't Opener" had me rolling. I will never be able to go into a dollar store and not think of YOU.

And the scotch tape. I wonder if it did hit someone on the head!! Do you think it knocked some sense into them? If it did, then it was SOOO worth the dollar!! And we should buy more and just chuck them out your window. The world is too full of stupid people...we need to smarten them up.

Yes, thank you! And that also pertains to their TOILET PAPER! I once bought a 4-pack of TP from the Dollar Store and it was horrendous because not only was it thin and cheap, but I went through all FOUR rolls in the time it would have taken me to go through ONE roll of Scotts, because it was nothing but FLUFF.

  33. I guess I'll have to get our next can opener and shower liner in Bed, Bath and Beyond. They have coupons that never expire and if something breaks they'll exchange it. Tape... gosh I think we've picked rolls up everywhere, probably even in the Home Depot or the grocery store. Batteries are probably not a good item to get at a dollar store either. Smoke detectors and certain 'toys' should never rely on anything other than a Duracell, ya know?!! ;)

Have you noticed though that not all 'dollar' stores are stocked with 'one dollar' items... some are $3, $4, $5 or more and I'll bet they aren't worth the additional dollars either. lol
I have bought some items... coloring books and little items for the grands, jewelry boxes for craft fairs, occasional snacks, gift bags, etc. but don't make a habit of shopping there often. I try to balance out the 'made in China' merchandise.. although that IS getting harder. *sigh*

"Also - I will never buy ANY of these items from the dollar store!"

I was actually going to add a few more items to this list, but I think I'll save them for another post in the upcoming months. I may start a "What NOT to buy at the Dollar Store series"

    HA!

Thanks for stopping by, girl. Hope you're having a great week!

    ((((( You ))))))

  44. I love it, Ron....always looking for consumer tips like this! The can opener story reminds me of the time I bought a bunch of vegetable peelers at the Dollar Store for a Girl Scout camping trip, because I needed cheap ones. Of course, all but one broke and the girls were extremely frustrated.......

I also don't buy food there. That just seems risky! I think you should now do a post on good buys at the Dollar Tree.

  45. Gooood morning Bijoux!

Yeah, I may start a new series each month "Ronnie's Consumer Shopping Tips! - What NOT to buy"

HAHAHAHAHHAHA! Actually, it was ROB'S idea!

"I bought a bunch of vegetable peelers at the Dollar Store for a Girl Scout camping trip, because I needed cheap ones. Of course, all but one broke and the girls were extremely frustrated...."

Oh shucks! See. Not everything at the Dollar Store is a good buy. However, I did get some nice wine glasses that were very sturdy and long-lasting.

"I also don't buy food there. That just seems risky!"

    Agreed!

" I think you should now do a post on good buys at the Dollar Tree."

Great suggestion! I may do that :)

Thanks for stopping by, my friend. Hope you're having a FAB week!

  46. So if you add up all the $$$'s I spent on Dollar Store showers curtain liners over the years, I probably could have paid for a week timeshare in Cancun

OMG, having sat through a number of those timeshare presos and knowing how much they want for those things, that is a lot of $$$$$! And I love your CAN'T opener remark. Perfect! About the only thing I buy at those dollar stores are cards for birthdays and holidays. And candy. Hope you're having a great day!

  47. Hey there Lisa!

"OMG, having sat through a number of those timeshare presos and knowing how much they want for those things, that is a lot of $$$$$!"

I probably spent about $50,000. on shower curtain liners, so do you think that would be enough?

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

"About the only thing I buy at those dollar stores are cards for birthdays and holidays."

Yup, their greeting cards, wrapping paper, and gifts bags are the BEST!!!$$$

Thanks for stopping by, Lisa! Hope you're having a FABU day and week!

  48. School is finally out and I can read blogs again wooo hoo! Yours is first of course! OMG what an amazing topic!!! I bought a can opener from there too and you are right... JUST DON'T DO IT.

So this got me thinking. If they sold them, what would you DEFINITELY not want to get at a dollar store. My list included pate, catheters, enemas, condoms and yeast infection cream. You think?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Helloooooooooo Katherine!

Aw...thanks, my friend. I ALWAYS love whenever you stop by!

"I bought a can opener from there too and you are right... JUST DON'T DO IT."

You said it! DON'T DO IT because they literally have ZERO quality.

" If they sold them, what would you DEFINITELY not want to get at a dollar store. My list included pate, catheters, enemas, condoms and yeast infection cream. You think?"

    Bwhahahahahahahahahaha!
    Bwhahahahahahahahahaah!

OMG...I'm sitting here at my desk HOWLING at that!!!

And YES....my list would be the same. Oh, except for the yeast infection cream. However, I will add...jock itch cream.

    Bwhahahahahahahahaha!

    Also, FOOD items!

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. And thank for the GREAT laughs!!!!! Hope you're having a SUPER week!

    Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

    'Can't opener!' ROFL!!

You are absolutely right, of course, Ron, although that shower curtain liner looks as if it might do nicely as a table coverer-upper for yard sales etc. I've bought plastic sheets to cover up Brambleberry's stand for when it rains, and you can never dry them off and fold them up properly to use them again anyway. Might just as well spend less and get a Dollar Store shower curtain liner!

  51. Gooood morning Jay!

Isn't that joke HILARIOUS? I found it online and just had to use it for this post.

"although that shower curtain liner looks as if it might do nicely as a table coverer-upper for yard sales etc."

Yes, exactly. Or even to use it as a drip covering if you're going to paint. But as an actual shower curtain liner? No way.

"I've bought plastic sheets to cover up Brambleberry's stand for when it rains, and you can never dry them off and fold them up properly to use them again anyway. Might just as well spend less and get a Dollar Store shower curtain liner!"

    Yup!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, my friend. Hope all is well going well with your new grandchildren. They are both sooooooooooo ADORABLE!!!!

Enjoy the rest of your week!

OMG Peg...it's SOOOOOOOOOOO great to see ya!!!!!!

You have been VERY missed in blogland. I know you're very busy with the restaurant, but I hope you start posting a bit this year :)

I've never used Dollar Store mailing tape, but if it's anything like their plan Scotch Tape, I bet it sucks as well.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a super week!

"Still chuckling over your "Can't Opener" joke."

Isn't that freakin' hilarious? I found that joke online, completely be accident. When I read it, I HOWLED.

"One of my favorite pastimes is walking into a Dollar Store and asking the employees repeatedly, "How much is this? What about this? How much does this cost?" After the second or third time, they tend to grow impatient with me."

    Bwhahahahahahahaha! Too funny!!!!

Thanks for stopping by, bud. Have a most excellent week!

  56. Hola Denise!

Glad you had laugh this morning :)

I found that last photo online, isn't it stellar???

Yes, it's wet and dreary here as well. And VERY humid - UGH!

"I like shopping at the Dollar Store for things such as trash bags, cleaning products and gift wrapping items, but that's about it. One time I got some candles and they were the worst because they didn't burn properly and made a mess over all my table."

Yes...me too! It's a great place to get cleaning products because they carry name-brand products for less. And I agree, I bought a bag of tea lights one time and they were horrible. They only burned for like a hour and then they were done.

The scotch tape is the WORST.

Thanks for stopping by, girl! Have a wonderful week as well!

  57. Good, funny points, Ron! Yes, a Dollar Tree offers up some decent bargains -- 50 doggie pickup bags for poop at $1, comes to mind -- but as with anything, you've got to watch what you buy. I've never tried a shower curtain or tape from there (thanks for the warning!), but you can get some decent deals on stuff like toothbrushes.

    "Can't" opener? Love it!

You flung tape out your window 21 floors up? Mercy, let's hope you didn't hit anybody -- that thing could've felt like a missile hurling toward the earth, ha!

    Have a super Monday!

".perhaps the shower curtain in Psycho was the idea behind the design or someone had lots of "tissue paper" to use up, lol!"

    Bwhahahahahahha! OMG...that was HILARIOUS!!!!!!

"Now that you've posted the things not to buy at the dollar store, you need to do one on the things worth purchasing for a buck!"

Great idea! And Rob also gave me an idea for a monthly post, entitled....

    "Ronnie's Consumer Shopping Tips!"

    HA! I might do that!!!!

Have a terrific week, my friend, and much thanks for stopping by!

  59. Goooood morning Valerie~

"Mine was from a large department store that sells over-priced goods; I wouldn't mind so much if it had only cost £1."

OMG....you're kidding me?!?! Now that would make me frustrated at well. And I probably would have taken it back for a refund or return.

"Shower curtains, well I spend money on those.... it pays off in the long run. I've had mine for years and there's no tear anywhere."

Amen! And the one I have now is of much better quality.

" but I had to smile the other week when I saw another establishment that tried to outdo the Pound Shop. It was called the Ninety-Nine Pence Shop!"

    Oh, how FUNNY!!!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have marvellous week as well!

"Still one can get some real bargains at £1 ($1) stores, except Scotch Tape, it's always useless."

Totally useless! I find the Dollar Store good for things such as cleaning products. And I also purchased some really nice wine glasses as well.

Thanks for stopping by, m'dear. Have a super week!

  61. Hey there Rob!

"Hey, everybody, it's time for Ronnie's Consumer Shopping Tips!"

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Hey, I may start a monthly post and use that as my post title!!!

"There are these cheapie stores all over my neighborhood and while the prices are tempting, you do have to be careful about alleged "bargains."

Exactly! Cities seems to have a PLETHORA of these kind of stores, don't they? We also have a lot of those type stores that sell electronics as well, which I can't understand someone purchasing something like a cordless phone or camera there because they don't offer warranties. So if you have problems with an item, they won't take them back.

    "you've earned that Speedo-wearing butler!"

    Bwhahahahahhaha!

Thanks for stopping by, Rob. Have an excellent week, buddy!

"OMG. "A CAN'T opener." Good one, Ron."

I found that joke online. Isn't is hilarious???

"Dave figured out a way to keep it from flying back (due to its thinness) by bunching up the magnets on the bottom up on the top of the tub ledge. Worked for him. Didn't work for me. Still flooded the bathroom."

OMG...how FUNNY! But I'm totally surprised that a ritzy hotel had such crappy shower curtain liners?!!? Most of the hotels I've stayed at had those heavy-duty industrial shower curtains. Almost like a piece of TARP.

Thanks for stopping by, girl. Are you back from your trip? Can't WAIT to read all about it!

    Have a super week!

  63. How true you are with all those descriptions of all those wonderful items bought at the dollar store are. I bought a spice rack at the dollar store once and when I got it home it only had 2 of the 8 screws secured and the other six were not in the box. You want to give the guy who runs the place a good jab. Go in there and get about 12 items and ask to do a price check on each one. The best thing I ever purchased at the dollar store was something about twenty minutes in an air conditioned atmosphere on a terribly humid day. You can always count on this place to get a greeting card at the last minute though.
