It’s an utter delight to experience a place with someone who holds the same passion for it as you do.

So when Val and I made plans to visit New York City last week, I just knew it was going to be a great time.

And even though it was almost 100 degrees with 100% humidity, neither of us allowed it to spoil our day. We simply stopped in the nearest convenient store every hour and grabbed a bottled water, and also dashed into various department stores to use their air conditioning for 10-15 minutes and cool off. We spent the longest time in the store, Pottery Barn, sitting on their lawn chair displays; pretending that we were interested in purchasing them, just to use their A/C and restrooms.

We covered a lot of ground in the 7 1/2 hours that we were there.

However, I must admit (and I didn’t tell Val this) there was one point when I thought I was going to faint and keel over on 5th Avenue from the sun beating down on my shoulders so severely. But I said to myself, “Oh Ron…buck up, you’re in NYC for heaven’s sake, don’t be such a WUSS - just DEAL with it.”

And that’s why I LOVE this city, because it somehow infuses you with the power to overcome any obstacle.

NYC is such an amazing dichotomy. It’s the only place I’ve ever lived that can be very tough and aggressive, yet at the same time extremely nurturing and supportive when it comes to energy. It seems to give you back what it takes to be there and survive.

The ability to accomplish anything.

So allow me to share some photographs of a recent wanderlust into NYC.

Please enjoy…

NYC skyline from the bus window. I always get that same excited and emotional feeling whenever I approach the Big Apple. When I took this shot, I had my headphones plugged in while listening to Billy Joel sing, "I'm In A New York State Of Mind."

A view of how CROWDED it was on the streets. Val said, “Look Ron, it’s like an ocean of people!”

We spotted this little dog being carted around the city by its owner. In this photo he looks like Cujo the Chihuahua, but he was actually very sweet.

A store window display along 5th Avenue.

If you look real close, you can see Val and I reflected in the bubbles.

Only in NYC would you see this - Big Bird and Elmo sitting in Central Park.

A view of Central Park South reflected in a lake.

Beautiful stained glass window inside St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Inside Grand Central Station. This train station lobby was used in one of my favorite movies, The Fisher King.

The ceiling inside The New York Public Library.

A view of The Empire State Building through a window inside The New York Public Library.

Okay, this probably won’t excite you (as it did me) if you weren’t a HUGE fan of the HBO show Sex and the City, but this photo I took inside The New York Public Library is the EXACT location of where a scene in Sex and the City-the movie was shot, in which Carrie gets jilted by Mr. Big on their wedding day.

And speaking of SEX...

...this is the Museum of Sex in NYC.

Don’t you love it? The iSCREAM Popsicle Dildo! Bwhahahahahahaha!

Me, trying to look SEXY and failing.

Two chess players sitting in Bryant Park.

A waxed figure of Morgan Freeman in front of Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum. Being made of wax, I'm surprised he didn't melt in the heat.

Front entrance to The New York Times newspaper.

Souvenirs of Lady Liberty and The Empire State Building.

Val and I as we parted ways at the end of our day in our favorite city.

Thanks for a GREAT time, Val!

And thanks so much for taking this pictorial trip with us everyone!

  1. It was by far the HOTTEST, MOST GOD AWFUL week weather wise. Good for you not letting it spoil your plans. It looks like you and Val had a great time. Loving your pics and I can't decided which is my favorite. I think it's the Empire State Building through the window but I adore the Statue of Liberty souvenirs one, too.
Oh, honey, you're sexy and you know it! Have a great COOLER week!

  2. I saw much more of NYC through your photos than I did on two visits. Thank you. I know what you mean about the landscape. When I was in a taxi heading for the airport, I turned and looked out of the back window ... and promptly went all emotional. It is a fabulous landscape.

I drooled over the pictures, Ron. Like Chrissy I loved the one of the Empire State Building through the window.

Good to see you are back in harness, so to speak. We missed you.

  3. What a great photo journey you took us on! That dog scares me. I've never been to the NYC public library and now I'm disappointed to have missed it. I think you did a good sexy pose. You are tan and pursed your lips, what more could we want? How are Big Bird and Elmo not lying on the ground like dead animals in those costumes in the heat? And I thought wax figures were kept in climate control?

And now I see you have a tattoo on your arm??? Did I miss the blog post about that?? XO, thanks for a great start to the week.

  4. Great post, Ron, and I love the photos! I commend you and Val for surviving that godawful heat--though it sounded pretty dicey at one point.

You're right about New York--it can build you up and then beat you right back down, And yet we keep coming back for more.

Next time you're in my hometown let's get together!

    Have a tremendous week, buddy!

  5. ron, i loved this post. you really make NYC come to life with the way you write. even though i was there, i still read this with my mouth open and a smile on my face just looking at the photos. you have so many ones that are great, i can't pick a favorite....okay maybe the one in the library and the ESB in the window background. that's awesome, came out great!

and i didn't know you were going to pass out. you should have scream and dragged me into a store with seating and AC. it was hot. you know what's weird? last night i had a dream someone fell out in front of me and i had to perform CPR. i don't think it was your face, but i remember sucking my teeth because i was right in the middle of something and didn't want to help, but i did. i also said i was putting my mouth on that man and would only do the chest compressions. a reluctant helper i was. i think he survived.

  6. Ron, I was so anticipating this post about your day trip into New York City. I love this post and what wonderful photos! I was a HUGE fan of the TV show Sex in the City, so I when I saw that shot inside the library from the scene in the movie, I got very excited. I can't believe you were actually there!

And I laughed out loud at the photo in the Museum of Sex and the iScream popsicle! You are hilarious!

I love the photo of Big Bird and Elmo. How cute! I can tell how much you love this city because everytime you post about it, I can feel it through your words. You're such a powerful advocate for that city.

Have a wonderful week, Ron. And welcome back. We missed you!

  7. Hey there Chrissy!

"It was by far the HOTTEST, MOST GOD AWFUL week weather wise."

OMG...wasn't it HORRENDOUS???? Supposedly this week it's going be a bit cooler, THANK GOD!!!

    I can't wait for FALL already :)

Yes, Val and I had THE MOST awesome time, in spite of the heat. She loves that city as much as I do, so it was awesome to hang out with her there.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, girl. Have a most excellent week and stay cool!

X to you and the gang!

P.S. hope Vinny is doing well!

  9. Goooooood morning Valerie!

Oh, you are so welcome. I know how much you love NYC as well. One of these days, when you visit the U.S. again, I would love to meet you there so we can experience it together!

"I know what you mean about the landscape. When I was in a taxi heading for the airport, I turned and looked out of the back window ... and promptly went all emotional. It is a fabulous landscape."

You said it...it's a faaaaabulous landscape! That city has such an amazing energy that people either "click with" or don't. I remember the very first time I visited when I was in my teens, and coming home; telling my mother, "One day I'm going to LIVE there!" And I have a feeling that one day I'm going to move back.

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have a super week! Missed you too! Can't wait to catch up with you!

  10. Hiya Bijoux!

    "That dog scares me."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I know, isn't that photo of him SCARY? But honestly, he was actually very sweet and friendly.

" I've never been to the NYC public library and now I'm disappointed to have missed it."

It's SUCH a beautiful library! It's HUGE and almost looks like a museum. I have a photo of me (when I was 17 years old) sitting on one of the BIG lion statues that are on the front steps, as you walk into the building.

"How are Big Bird and Elmo not lying on the ground like dead animals in those costumes in the heat?"

HA! Yes, Val said the same thing when we saw him. I can't even imagine how hot it was in the costume!

"And now I see you have a tattoo on your arm??? Did I miss the blog post about that??"

Yes, I did do a post (waaaaaaaaaay back in my archives) about that tattoo. I got that tattoo (a little devil) back in the mid-80's. It's so faded now, but it hurt so much that I won't go back and have it redone.

Thanks for stopping by, my friend! Have a MARVI week!

  11. Looks like you had an amazing time Ron! I have only been to NYC once and it was so long ago, I dont think it counts. I only live a few hours north from there so really I have no good excuse. This post is inspiring me just a little more to get my fanny down there. Thanks for sharing!

  12. Hey there Rob!!!

Thanks, buddy! Glad enjoyed the photos of your hometown!

OMG...the day we were there, the heat was HORRENDOUS. But like I shared, I was NOT going let it spoil my day in my favorite city.

"You're right about New York--it can build you up and then beat you right back down, And yet we keep coming back for more."

I think that's because in as much as it's tough and aggressive, that city GIVES you back so much in return. The creative energy there is contagious. Yes, it's competitive, but all that creativity keeps you motivated to keep going. There is no city like it.

"Next time you're in my hometown let's get together!"

Yup...I'm going to email you this week about something.

Thanks for stopping by, Rob! Have a FANTABULOUS week!

OMG...I was so thinking of YOU when I was putting this post together and remembering our faaaaaabulous day there. Truly, I had a BLAST. Thank you :)

"and i didn't know you were going to pass out. you should have scream and dragged me into a store with seating and AC"

Bwhahahahahahhaha! It was at one point while we were walking down 5th Avenue (standing on a corner) and I actually felt like I was going to faint. I got very light-heading and my legs felt wobbly. But hey...it passed.

" last night i had a dream someone fell out in front of me and i had to perform CPR. i don't think it was your face, but i remember sucking my teeth because i was right in the middle..."

OMG...how FUNNY! Maybe it was your subconscious picking up on the fact that I almost DID faint!!!

Again, thanks for a SUPER time in NYC! I can't wait until we go AGAIN!!!!!!! Have a terrific week!

OMG...when Val and I walked up the stairs and I saw that spot, I just about died! I had forgotten that the movie was filmed there, so when I saw it, I just knew I had to get a picture. And I was very lucky to find the same shot from the movie online!

"And I laughed out loud at the photo in the Museum of Sex and the iScream popsicle!"

Tee, hee...it's that HILARIOUS? There were so many other things in that museum that made Val and I laugh too!

"I can tell how much you love this city because every time you post about it, I can feel it through your words. You're such a powerful advocate for that city."

  17. Ron, your love for New York shines through every single word you write. You make want to go there and visit. Amazing photos, dude! The shot of The Empire State Building through the window is awesome! And I really love the candidness in the photograph of the two guys playing chess. It's such a natural shot. And wow, that waxed figure of Morgan Freeman looks just like him!

Thanks for a great tour of your day, Ron. I felt like I was there with you and Val.

  20. Hiya Matt!

NYC is one of those places that resonates so strongly with my heart, that's why I love it so much.

The two guys playing chess, we spotted while sitting down for a break in Bryant Park. NYC is the perfect place to 'people watch' because you see so many interesting characters.

"And wow, that waxed figure of Morgan Freeman looks just like him!"

Yes, isn't the likeness AMAZING???? And even up close it looked JUST like him!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a most excellent week!

  21. Ron, you have such an artistic eye -- your photos are splendid! Looking through them takes me back to the only time I've been in "The City," many years ago. I remember it being sooo energetic, so alive, especially when compared to my small town!

I simply love the lake shot, and Grand Central Station, the stained glass windows, and the ceiling at the library! And how cool is it that the window display captured you and Val during your visit?!

I'm sure it was hot and steamy that week, but your photos didn't suffer for it -- well done, my friend!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Looks like you had a great time! Love the shot of the Empire State Building through the library windows. Very artistic, sir. How you got to see any sights with all the wonderful food in NYC is beyond me, though!

  23. Howdy Mark!

Yup...we had such a SUPER time!

"Love the shot of the Empire State Building through the library windows. Very artistic, sir."

Actually, Val was the one who turned around and saw that and said, "Look Ron!" It was just begging to have its picture taken.

" How you got to see any sights with all the wonderful food in NYC is beyond me, though!"

HA! I know, you have to make one trip to NYC JUST for the food alone!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have an excellent week!

  24. Hellooooooooo Debbie!

Aw, thanks, dear lady. Photography is something I've always had an interest in, but never really pursued it until I got a digital camera two years ago. I am actually upgrading my camera this week to something a bit more advanced, that will allow me to MANUALLY taking photographs.

"Looking through them takes me back to the only time I've been in "The City," many years ago. I remember it being sooo energetic, so alive, especially when compared to my small town!"

And the energy in NYC is incredible. It's like no other city I've ever lived in or visited. Every time I come back, I feel so infused with creative energy.

"I'm sure it was hot and steamy that week...."

Oy vey...it was so hot and steamy. And I used to live in Florida, where it's that way all the time. However, city heat is almost magnified.

Thanks for stopping by, Debbie. Have a lovely week and I look forward to catching up with you!

  25. What a lot of lovely photos! Especially the last one ;)

We have just had a stretch of hot weather and Mo and I stayed home, in the garden, where we could sit in front of a fan. We loved it, but it's too hot for us to go out in.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh Ron, I can't even pick which ones of these are my favorites. I love the one of the crowded street because it really gives you a sense of how CROWDED it was. How did you get that close to the faces in front? Bird Bird and Elmo made me smile. And of course, the sex museum shots made me laugh out loud. Only you, Ron. Only you would have the idea of taking photos of the TOYS!

The one of The Empire State Building through the window should be in a New York City book of photos. It's just wonderful!

And what a great photo of you and Val. You two look so happy to be there.

I really enjoy your posts about New York. They're exciting!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hey ho Robert!

Thanks, bud. That photo of the crowded street I actually took at a long distance because the zoom on my camera is not very high, so I had to crop the photo to make it appear close up.

"Only you, Ron. Only you would have the idea of taking photos of the TOYS!"

    Tee, hee....aren't I WICKED? But I just couldn't resist :)

"And what a great photo of you and Val. You two look so happy to be there."

As I shared, that photo was taken with Val's camera. And YES, we were both VERY happy to be there for the day. She loves the city as much as I do, so it was perfect being there with her.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, buddy. Have a super-duper week!!!!!!

  28. *waving*

    Hey Babs!!!!!

Thank you. That last shot says it all about how the two of us felt about being in NYC that day. We asked someone standing on the street to take that photo of us with Val's camera.

"We have just had a stretch of hot weather and Mo and I stayed home, in the garden, where we could sit in front of a fan. We loved it, but it's too hot for us to go out in."

Yes, I don't blame you because we've been experiencing the worst heatwave as well. Supposedly by the end of this week into next, the temperature will be dropping into the 80's. But these past 8 days have been horrendous - very HIGH humidity.

Thanks for stopping by, my friend. Have a COOL week!

    X to you and Mo!

  29. Thanks for explaining how you got that photo, Ron. Well, however you did it it came out great!

  31. So...that's how you spent last week. Looks like you guys had a blast! But...what's up with that guy dressed up like Big Bird? He must have been roasting in that costume.

  32. Hey Herman!

Yup...that's how I spent last Monday. And yes, it was a blast! In fact, we're going back next week and doing lower Manhattan!

"But...what's up with that guy dressed up like Big Bird? He must have been roasting in that costume."

THANK YOU. We said the same thing. We were sweating to death in what we were wearing, so I can't even imagine how HOT that guys was in that costume!

"And $42 bucks for a dildo? That's just crazy! Heh..."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I agree! But if you look at the one's sitting next to it (The JimmyJanes) they're $145.00?!?!?! It would be cheaper to just rent a GIGGOLO for an hour - HA!

Thanks for stopping by, buddy! Have a super week!

  35. Wow...you'd never know from the photos that fatigue, heat stroke and sweating like a Banshee was happening. (My apologies to Banshees...) And what a brilliant bit of problem solving the two of you had. Especially the Pottery Barn with their awesome displays. The photos were just AWESOME. The ceilng and the stained glass...the shot through the window... Seriously, very awesome captures. Whoda thunk the two of you were melting (cue the Wicked Witch of the West!) ;-)

I can't think of a nicer kickoff to a week of no work than sweating like a Banshee in NYC with someone who's just as willing to sweat for a good adventure.

Thank goodness the tale has a happy ending though. Heatstroke woulda put a damper on the works, no doubt...soooooo glad that was not the case!

"I can't think of a nicer kickoff to a week of no work than sweating like a Banshee in NYC with someone who's just as willing to sweat for a good adventure."

Yup, I agree! The heat doesn't bother Val like it does me, so she kept me strong and willing! And we truly had such an awesome time.

  38. I sooooooooo agree with you, girl! The second movie was horrendous. I watched it twice, just to see if I would like it more the second time, but NO. I heard Sara Jessica mention something on an interview that they MAY be doing a third. And I hope to god it's better than the second one.

So many people. I would love to visit and see that. I don't know that I could live there... it is so different from what I am used to. I can see it being perfect for you... the buzz of activity.. the unique people... fabulous! I WANNA VISIT!

"big bird... were they the real sesame street ones?"

I don't think so. It was a guy dressed up in a Big Bird costume, holding an Elmo puppet on his lap - and Elmo talked and sang - it was so cute because all the little kids kept walking up to them and would just STARE.

Yes....that Jimmy Jane is WAAAAAAAAY too expensive, I agree!

    $145.00?!?!?

For that price it better cause MULTIPLE orgasms!!

Yes, NYC is not a place that everyone could live. Some people simply like to visit and then go home. Me? I could (and DID) live there and LOVED it. And one of these days, I have a feeling I will move back.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, girl. Hope you're having a FABU week!

I was SO happy to read your post and to enjoy your happy photography!
Brilliant and joyful!! I love them all!!
I just bet that it was so hard to keep on moving with the heat. You guys were smart to take pauses and buy lots of fresh water. I think that D & I would have done likewise.

Yes; I understand what you mean by the energy levels of places. Each city has it's energy and character. I have spent very little time there but to me the energy feels like " let's get moving, people!".
I betchya that when you got back to Philly, you were drained. Wonderfully happy but pooped!!

" Each city has it's energy and character. I have spent very little time there but to me the energy feels like " let's get moving, people!".

NYC seems to give you the energy to move at the speed it does. For me, it's so invigorating! Whenever I come back, I truly feel more inspired - more creative.

Bwhahahahahahahaha! I have to agree with you. I can understand the BANANA, but not the popsicle - that would be kinda cold, don't you think???? HAHAHAHAHAHA!

  53. Hellooooooo Jeanne!

    Isn't NYC faaaaaaaaaabulous?

"last time I was there was the day before the first terrorist attack. We had drinks in the Windows of the World Bar."

WOW! I was at the WTC about two months before the attacks. I had never gone there when I lived in NYC, so I was happy to have seen it before they were destroyed.

"Thanks for thinking of me Ron...I have had another two biopsies and do not have the results back yet...I am not a patient person and the waiting is not easy."

I don't blame you, dear lady, I would be the same way.

Just know that I am sharing MUCH good energy with you...

    ((((((((( You ))))))))

Thanks so much for stopping by!

X to you and the girlz!

  55. Looks like another wonderful trip to your fav city. So nice that you went with Val and shared the experience.
I'd have so pretended to shop for potty/ac use!
The store window shots were neat. Love those bubbles with reflections. And the ceiling in the library... wow!
And for $145.00 either Jimmy or Jane better be delivering it. I'm so not into pink though so do they come in purple? Ha!
If you wanted to look sexier... you should have posed with a MALE mannequin! The electrical taped tits just aren't turning you on!
Lovely last shot of you and Val.
    Glad you two enjoyed yourselves.
Isn't the weather glorious today!?!! Whew... a little break from the heat. The bookstore was freezing though. lol

  56. Hey there Mary!!!

Yes, going with Val made it all the more fun. She lives in Jersey, so she and met in NYC at a certain spot.

"And for $145.00 either Jimmy or Jane better be delivering it. I'm so not into pink though so do they come in purple? Ha!"

OMG, I know, can you BELIEVE the price of that thing?!?

"If you wanted to look sexier... you should have posed with a MALE mannequin! The electrical taped tits just aren't turning you on!"

Cracked me up! And I think you're right...the taped tits are just not turning me on. Actually, whether on a woman OR a man, it wouldn't turn me on - HA! Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing a male mannequin in the store?!

Yes, isn't the weather shift GORGEOUS? I couldn't believe how chilly it got last night, almost like FALL weather.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, neighbor. Hope you're having a super week!

OMG...I was so hoping you would see this post because I know (being a native New Yorker) you would appreciate my LOVE for that city!

    Truly, the BEST city EVER!

Yes, we had a super time in spite of the heat. OMG...the heat there that day was 100 times worst than any heat I'd ever experienced in Florida. It was like an OVEN!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, Sis!
