As most of you guys and gals know from previous posts, I don’t cook.
In fact if I were to become rich, the first thing I'd do would be to hire someone to prepare all my food.
I know that I’m Italian and Italians are supposed to have an innate culinary talent, but what can I tell you…I’m missing one of the Italian genes.
Whereas, my brother Tom is a professional chief. And brother, can he COOK.
Yet, my idea of cooking is slicing a banana into my morning cereal and perhaps tossing in some raisins, and then pouring milk over it.
Bon appetit!
Yes, I am NO Julia Child.
However…
Suddenly last week I developed an urge to COOK.
I love pasta with chicken, so I decided to make myself Chicken Margherita. Yes, I know that sounds a bit overzealous for someone who is cooking inept, but I thought, “I’m feeling kind of adventurous, so why not at least try it?”
I mean what was the worst thing that could happen, I could get salmonella poisoning from undercooked chicken?
The recipe called for:
*Chicken Tenderloins
*Angel Hair Pasta
*Roasted Garlic and Tomatoes
*And a balsamic vinaigrette sauce
Sounds YUMMY, doesn’t it?
So I got all the ingredients together; following each step of the recipe carefully.
I also made a fresh spinach salad with sliced cucumbers, Italian dressing, and grated Romano cheese.
After I completed the Chicken Margherita, I made a beautiful presentation on a dinner plate by placing the pasta and chicken on one side, and adding the spinach salad to the other.
And before tasting it I drizzled some virgin olive oil over the entree; finishing it off with a sprinkle of fresh Romano cheese.
And can I just tell you something? It was BEYOND fabulous!
I oohed and aahed like I normally do, just before I get to that point of having the big O.
Honestly, I don’t mean to brag but I was so proud of myself that I actually COOKED. And it was GOOD!
And do you know what I did? I took a picture so I would have PROOF to show you.
Here it is…
And do you know what else I did? I found another picture online so I could show you what an evil and despicable LIAR I am.
Here it is…
GOTCHA!!!!!
Yes, I lied. But not completely. Because I did place it in a microwave and COOKED it for 5 1/2 minutes.
Oh, and I did make the SALAD. I swear. No lie.
Have a delicious weekend everyone!
X
Ha ha! You're such a fibber! So I guess I should return that cookbook I bought for you?
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny because I don't cook, either, but the other day my Stouffer's meal required baking instead of microwaving. All I did was preheat the oven and my smoke alarm was going off. I think it was warning the neighbors!
Have a great weekend!
Laughing here. Oh you little liar, and there was me taking it all in. Mind you, it takes skill to get the microwave timing right since they don't all tally with written instructions. I found that out to my cost! I don't like cooking although I have to do it to feed the other half. If it was left to me I would eat out every day.
ReplyDeleteAn enjoyable post, Ron, as ever. Have a brilliant cook-free weekend.
Bwahahaha!! I use my oven for storage!! Right there with ya Ron...on missing the cooking gene! I had that very same meal just the other day! Love those! Last night I had the Ginger Chicken! Some results are in...tested positive for Behcet's Disease. lovely. Another Awesome Auto Immune Problem. NOT LOVELY. Ah well...life goes on, my friend, and we all try to make the best of it! Xo Jeanne
ReplyDeleteHahaha...you totally had me going there, Ronnie!!! Even if you aren't a chef, at least you have the lingo going for you.
ReplyDeleteMy kids think I'm a great cook, but a lot of what I make is hit or miss. I always think food tastes better when someone else makes it. My all- time favorite entree when I'm alone is Stouffer's creamed chipped beef. It tastes like childhood to me.
Haha! I was all prepared to write you a congrats comment! I like you do not cook but lately have found the beauty of a crock pot. I work at home on Wednesdays so in the morning I just throw some ingredients off a recipe in a pot and check on it every so often and it cooks itself. Its fab! For the cooking impaired I definitely recommend it!
ReplyDeleteOh, Ron, you had me going on that one! I was all set to praise your adventurous spirit and try my hand at cooking, too, and then you pulled the Margherita out from underneath me!
ReplyDeleteShame on you, Ronnie boy! The ghosts of all the nuns you ever had in Catholic school are lining up right now to beat you with their rulers! You'll have the Big O, all right, as in "Ooooooooh, that hurts!!"
Nevertheless, it was a funny post and you did fool me! Have a tasty weekend, buddy, and if you get the urge to go into the kitchen and cook, go watch TV instead!
I however, love to cook, and I WILL MAKE THIS Sounds gorgeous. Thanks for the idea Ron. And really, you should get into cooking, it's such good fun and therapeutic at the same time. Very relaxing.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the post I sent you a preview of will make it online after all, so maybe I can make some converts to the lovely lady. (Ssshhh, don't tell anyone)
...And I was so impressed with your effort and mad skilz! I was going to ask if you just love cooking now! Now, I'll be impressed that you REALLY got me, and it does look delicious and homemade!
ReplyDeleteRon, I was all ready to praise your efforts for cooking and then you hit us with the ending. You are so bad, but so funny! I totally believed you because your photo looks like it was homemade. As you were describing what you did to prepare it, I was all set to make it myself because it sounded delicious!
ReplyDeleteI've eaten a few of those Healthy Choice entrees before and I have say they are really good.
Thank you for the morning laugh, Ron. Have a wonderful weekend!
Hiya Chrissy!
ReplyDeleteTee, hee...aren't I EVIL???? I suddenly got the idea to write a post about it just before I took my first bite, so I snapped a photo!
"I don't cook, either, but the other day my Stouffer's meal required baking instead of microwaving. All I did was preheat the oven and my smoke alarm was going off. I think it was warning the neighbors!"
Bwhahahahahahhaha! OMG...that's freakin' HILARIOUS!!!
All I can say is THANK GOD for microwaves because I couldn't live without one.
Have a super weekend, girl, and thanks much for stopping by!
X to you and the gang!
Goooood morning Valerie!
ReplyDeleteTee, hee....aren't I an EVIL liar??? But I suddenly got the idea for a post just before I took my first bite, so I quickly snapped a photo of it.
" Mind you, it takes skill to get the microwave timing right since they don't all tally with written instructions. I found that out to my cost!"
Yes, you are so right! In fact, I just recently got a new microwave and it's so much stronger than my last one that I've already OVERCOOKED things.
" If it was left to me I would eat out every day."
Thank you. I agree! I could care less if my apartment even HAD a kitchen - HA!
Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have a lovely weekend!
X
Hey there Jeanne!
ReplyDelete" I use my oven for storage!!"
OMG...that is sooo funny because I used to do the same thing in one of my apartments in Florida. And I also did the same thing with the dishwasher. I mean I don't even cook, so why would I have the need for a dishwasher?!?!
"I had that very same meal just the other day! Love those! Last night I had the Ginger Chicken!"
Aren't Healthy Choice dinners AWESOME???? I will sometimes find them on sale and buy a BUNCH. Honestly, they really DO taste homemade!
"Some results are in...tested positive for Behcet's Disease. lovely. Another Awesome Auto Immune Problem. NOT LOVELY."
Aw shucks, sorry to hear about that. But I know you have a very strong and positive spirit, so you will get through this. I just know it.
((((((((((( You )))))))))
Thanks so much for stopping by, Jeanne. Have a wonderful weekend!
Much X and hugs to you and the girlz!
Hey there Bijoux!
ReplyDelete" Even if you aren't a chef, at least you have the lingo going for you."
Bwhahahahahahaha! Well, I got that from my brother Tom!!! And it's funny because I spoke to him last night on the phone and told him I was writing this post.
"I always think food tastes better when someone else makes it."
AMEN! I TOTALLY agree with you! I make a great dinner guest because I'm forever praising the person who cooked the meal; raving about. I will also bring a bottle of wine.
"My all- time favorite entree when I'm alone is Stouffer's creamed chipped beef. It tastes like childhood to me.!
Yes, when I was a kid, my mother used buy those Stouffer's dinners and keep a few in the freezer. LOVED them!
Thanks for stopping by, my friend. Have a most excellent weekend!

Hey there Shae!
ReplyDelete"I like you do not cook but lately have found the beauty of a crock pot. I work at home on Wednesdays so in the morning I just throw some ingredients off a recipe in a pot and check on it every so often and it cooks itself. Its fab!"
I cannot believe you mentioned a crock pot because I work with a woman who uses one and RAVES about it. She works and also has three children. She will throw everything into a crock pot before she comes to work, so that when she gets home...VIOLA! it's ready to eat!
I may get one this Fall and try it for stews. I love stews!
Thanks for stopping by, girl. Have a terrific weekend!

Hey there Rob!
ReplyDelete"I was all set to praise your adventurous spirit and try my hand at cooking, too, and then you pulled the Margherita out from underneath me!"
Tee, hee! I know, aren't I an EVIL creature???? I'm sorry, but I just couldn't help myself.
"The ghosts of all the nuns you ever had in Catholic school are lining up right now to beat you with their rulers! You'll have the Big O, all right, as in "Ooooooooh, that hurts!!"
Bwhahahahhahaah OMG...that made me HOWL!!! Brilliant, Rob!!!
Thanks a bunch for stopping by, buddy! Have a SUPA' weekend!

Hiya Dale!
ReplyDeleteGood for you, buddy. I so wish I loved to cook because I love to eat.
"And really, you should get into cooking, it's such good fun and therapeutic at the same time. Very relaxing."
Yes, that's what many other people have told as well - it's therapeutic.
"Hopefully the post I sent you a preview of will make it online after all, so maybe I can make some converts to the lovely lady."
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Great to hear that!!!!! I so look forward to reading it online. Be sure to let us know. And as I shared, it's a faaaaaaabulous post!

HAHHAHAAHAHAHA! I know, aren't I an EVIL and WICKED person? I couldn't help myself though.
"and it does look delicious and homemade!"
I don't know if you've ever tried Healthy Choice means, but honestly, they are faaaaaabulous. Even if you like to cook, these are great for when you're in a hurry and want a quick and easy meal.
Have a wonderful weekend, my friend. And much thanks for stopping by!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I'm such an evil liar, aren't I???? I'm sorry, but I just COULDN'T resist :)
My father was the same way. He used to LOVE to play tricks on people!!!
"I've eaten a few of those Healthy Choice entrees before and I have say they are really good."
Yes, aren't they really good? I like to try different ones, but the Chicken Margherita is my FAV! They also have a butternut squash ravioli one that I love.
Thanks so much for stopping by this morning, girl. Have a most wonderful weekend!!!!

Dude, you totally got me on this one! I was about to applaud your efforts and tell you that I was jealous because I don't cook as well. The picture really does look like you made it from scratch.
ReplyDeleteI've eaten these frozen meals myself and think they're the closest thing to homemade. Praise microwave ovens!
You had me fooled! Somebody needs to take away your Italian card, Ron. You can't claim that heritage if you're heating up FROZEN DINNERS. Blech. But props on the salad, at least!
ReplyDeleteAnd I am journeying over to faceinhole.com now!
Dear Ron..Princess Grace once said "if you can read, you can cook." There's a new cookbook out, marketed for guys. It's cutely called "Tastetosterone. Your library may have it. Happy Cooking! Love your blog...you're hilarious. ~Heather
ReplyDeleteHey there Matt!

Thank you for the book recommendation. I will look for it in Barnes and Noble.
Please stop by anytime. You're always welcome! And if you have a blog, please leave me your URL so that I can visit you too.

Hi Ronnie,
ReplyDeleteWhat a sneak... We were all believing that you were a "born again" chef.
No...Are you sure about those Italian genes?!
What will do (maybe) the trick; coming to Paris and eating and trying a cooking course( and doing and more eating).
I am not Italian but when I want to cook something, I get busy. Today was ironically a cooking day. I had a crustless quiche with Feta cheese & veggies. Tomorrow, I take it easy, go out and just whip up something easy when we return.
BTW, your meal looks delish.
Take care hon and have a great weekend!!
XOXO
Ron, you're just a tease, aren't you?!! And here I was, about to congratulate you on your culinary skills!
ReplyDeleteI suppose heating in the microwave counts as cooking -- on one level or another -- but my Italian grandmother and mom would have a few choice words for you in opposition, I'm afraid.
But you know what? It did look healthy!
Have a wonderful weekend.
I've read your blog for so long....thanks for the warm welcome. I don't have one at this time, but I may down the road a bit! Have a great weekend too!
ReplyDeleteYes, I have several other readers who don't have blogs either. But if you do get one, just let me know and I'll be sure to stop by visit ya!
ReplyDeleteHey there Barb!
ReplyDelete"What a sneak... We were all believing that you were a "born again" chef."
Tee, hee, hee....aren't I the sneaky one! I just couldn't resist :)
Yes, that's the one Italian gene I was not blessed with. I can pick out a great wine, but cook? No :(
"Today was ironically a cooking day. I had a crustless quiche with Feta cheese & veggies. "
Okay, my mouth is watering just from READING that! I love anything with FETA cheese!!! Boy, that quiche sounds GREAT, Barb!
Thanks a bunch for stopping by, my friend. Have a gorgeous weekend!
X to you and D!
Helloooooo Debbie!
ReplyDelete"Ron, you're just a tease, aren't you?!! And here I was, about to congratulate you on your culinary skills!"
HAHAHAHAHAHA! Aren't I a little BEAST???? But I just couldn't help myself :)
"-- but my Italian grandmother and mom would have a few choice words for you in opposition, I'm afraid."
OMG...I bet they would - and my grandmother as well! Microwave frozen-food cooking to an Italian is a sacrilege!
"But you know what? It did look healthy!"
Healthy Choice meals are fairly healthy because the portions are not too large, but the sodium content is rather high in many of them.
Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have terrific weekend!
X
So close....
ReplyDeleteI don't eat chicken, but I think that dish would actually be pretty easy to make. And I don't have a drop of Italian blood!
"I don't eat chicken, but I think that dish would actually be pretty easy to make. And I don't have a drop of Italian blood!"

You ROCK!

Oh Ron! How could you? I believed you and was thinking what a great job you did ha ha! Still, you did take the photo, so you're half way there ;)
ReplyDeleteRon, you're a pisser! When I got to the end of this post, I laughed my ass off because I was totally taken in at first. Not only by words but also because that picture really does look like it was homemade. What a great actor you are!
ReplyDeleteI never used to like to cook, but about five years ago I was hit with the cook bug. I started cooking because I'm a very picky eater so I wanted to making things that I liked and make them the way I wanted. Now I really do enjoy cooking.
Love the photo of you as Julia Child!
Hey ho Robert!
ReplyDelete"Not only by words but also because that picture really does look like it was homemade."
Tee, hee....aren't an EVIL liar??? I can't help myself, I love playing practical jokes!!!
"I started cooking because I'm a very picky eater so I wanted to making things that I liked and make them the way I wanted. Now I really do enjoy cooking."
Bravo! Good for you! I too am a picky eater, so it would probably be advantageous for me to LEARN how to cook. I don't like fancy food, I prefer things to be simple and basic.
Much thanks for stopping by, buddy! Have fantabulous weekend!
Bon appetit!

"Oh Ron! How could you? "
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I know, I'm an evil and despicable person, aren't I? Oh...but I had so much fun putting this fib-post together.
Oh, and speaking of photos, I am so lovin' this new Canon camera. You're right, they are really good cameras!
Have a delicious weekend, my friend. And thanks for stopping by!
X to you and Mo!
Same here, Ron. I don't like fancy food as well. I prefer my food simple and without a lot of spices. Which is why I'm enjoying cooking. I can make things the way I like them.
ReplyDeleteYou GO, boy! And me neither, not a lot of spices and extra flavorings. Simple.
ReplyDeleteLOL, good ending, I didn't see that coming! :<) I AM an avid cook and cookbook author, just have a new cookbook coming out soon actually. Cooking is one of my fav things.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of fav things, I LOVE the movie, It Could Happen to You, thanks for the clip here. I'm going to take a minute to enjoy it again.

"Speaking of fav things, I LOVE the movie, It Could Happen to You."
OMG, you've actually SEEN that movie? You're like the only person besides me who's ever seen it. Most people have never heard of it. Isn't it a GREAT film? Funny, and also very sweet. And I love that it's based on a TRUE story!

Baby steps. One day the microwave....then the stove! Hey, it could happen! But you did fool me. :-). I'm a very improvisational type of cook and rarely use a recipe....except when baking.
ReplyDeleteHey there Lisa!
ReplyDelete"One day the microwave....then the stove! Hey, it could happen!"
HA! You're right, who knows, it COULD happen!
"I'm a very improvisational type of cook and rarely use a recipe....except when baking."
My mother was the same way, she kind of cooked using her intuition. And boy, was she a GREAT cook!
Much thanks for stopping by, my friend. Hope you're enjoying a gorgeous weekend!

Aw, Ron, you totally had me going too! I was so proud of you and pictured you preparing final presentation and then was so happy in your delight about how good it was. And now I'm disappointed. We can't be friends anymore. Good-bye.
ReplyDeletep.s. I still think you have it in you to cook. If I can, YOU can. Trust me. I'm no Julia Child either.
Hey there Kathy!!!

Great Blog Ron! Glad I found it via the comment you left on my blog (Ramblings of a semi-madman). It is bookmarked and I will be back often. Healthy Choice has saved my butt many a time!

Please stop by anytime. You're always welcomed here. I will place your blog in my reading; staying updated!
Bastard! I fell for the lie. Heh...
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't cook much either, but I'm a fiend on the grill. I can BBQ just about anything, but I think that has to do with the caveman side of me. That primal animal holding a hunk of dead animal in one hand and a flint in the other. There's just something about fire and flesh that makes me want to grill up a mean meal. :-)
HA! I know...aren't I an evil BASTARD???
ReplyDelete"but I think that has to do with the caveman side of me. That primal animal holding a hunk of dead animal in one hand and a flint in the other. There's just something about fire and flesh that makes me want to grill up a mean meal. :-)'
Bwhahahahahahaha! OMG...that made me HOWL! Caveman!!!
I used to lived behind a house in a garage apt. when I still lived in Florida. And the husband and wife grilled almost every single night. I don't think they ever used the oven or stove to cook. And the smell from the grill, which would perminate up through my apartment windows was delicious!
Thanks for stopping by, bud. Hope you and the family had a super weekend!

You got me!
ReplyDeleteHaha! You got me!
ReplyDeleteHey, I'll bet that salad was amazing!! ;)
I have been cooking for a long time now but there are just days when I don't feel like it at all and we go out or get take out.
I have made many things over the years.. even tried homemade pasta! I think my specialty is probably soups/stews. We had my version of Zuppa Toscana the other night and Chili Con Carne recently too. Last night, I picked up a roasted chicken from ShopRite, made a salad, and heated up the leftover soup. Today I had a banana/coffee at Starbucks and now that I'm home (and our internet and phones are back on... yay!) I had a silly lunch... Garden Veggie chips right out of the bag, 2 mini York Peppermint Patties, a mini Almond Joy and you don't want to even know how many Twizzlers.
I used to eat assorted frozen dinners but now that I'm on a different diet, most of them have ingredients I can't have. They weren't bad though.
Tee, hee....aren't I BEASTLY??
ReplyDeleteYes, Mary, salads I can make. It's the other stuff I like to leave up to those who love to cook.
"I have made many things over the years.. even tried homemade pasta! I think my specialty is probably soups/stews. We had my version of Zuppa Toscana the other night and Chili Con Carne recently too."
Oh, I've SEEN your culinary creations on your blog and I'm always so impressed. The thing I love about the food you make is that it's very much the kind of food that I like to eat. You eat very well!

Bwhahahahahahaha! I eat the same way a times. I'm not one of those people who watches every single thing I eat. I eat balanced, but I certainly don't deprive myself of thinngs like candy (chocolate and twizzlers) at times. I believe in moderation. And I LOVE a glass of red wine every night.
Thanks for stopping by, neighbor!

Okay, listen - I think you did cook it, from scratch. Wanna know why? 'Cause those frozen meals NEVER, EVER look that good! You had to do something to it. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteI HATE to cook and should I win the lottery, I am never going to cook again. I'll hire your brother! :)
I will also be purchasing one of those Healthy Choice meals to see if you are truly a liar!
"Wanna know why? 'Cause those frozen meals NEVER, EVER look that good! You had to do something to it. Seriously."
ReplyDeleteBwhahahahahahahaha!
Nitebyrd I LOVE you!!!!!
I swear to god, I did not cook this. However, what I did do is fluff it up and make a presentation.
It's called visual BULLSHIT.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
"I HATE to cook and should I win the lottery, I am never going to cook again. I'll hire your brother! :)"
And I OMG...can he COOK! And it's funny because he just throws things together and they taste faaaaaaaabulous!
Yes, try these dinners because, honestly, they taste like homemade. I doctor them up a tiny bit, by adding maybe some crushed garlic, grated cheese and olive oil.
And sometimes you'll find them on sale - 2 for 1
Thanks so much for stopping by, Sis! Hope you're having a super week!
X ya!!!!
