Post updates by email:

As most of you guys and gals know from previous posts, I don’t cook.

In fact if I were to become rich, the first thing I'd do would be to hire someone to prepare all my food.

I know that I’m Italian and Italians are supposed to have an innate culinary talent, but what can I tell you…I’m missing one of the Italian genes.

Whereas, my brother Tom is a professional chief. And brother, can he COOK.

Yet, my idea of cooking is slicing a banana into my morning cereal and perhaps tossing in some raisins, and then pouring milk over it.

Bon appetit!

Yes, I am NO Julia Child.

However…

Suddenly last week I developed an urge to COOK.

I love pasta with chicken, so I decided to make myself Chicken Margherita. Yes, I know that sounds a bit overzealous for someone who is cooking inept, but I thought, “I’m feeling kind of adventurous, so why not at least try it?”

I mean what was the worst thing that could happen, I could get salmonella poisoning from undercooked chicken?

The recipe called for:

*Chicken Tenderloins
*Angel Hair Pasta
*Roasted Garlic and Tomatoes
*And a balsamic vinaigrette sauce

Sounds YUMMY, doesn’t it?

So I got all the ingredients together; following each step of the recipe carefully.

I also made a fresh spinach salad with sliced cucumbers, Italian dressing, and grated Romano cheese.

After I completed the Chicken Margherita, I made a beautiful presentation on a dinner plate by placing the pasta and chicken on one side, and adding the spinach salad to the other.

And before tasting it I drizzled some virgin olive oil over the entree; finishing it off with a sprinkle of fresh Romano cheese.

And can I just tell you something? It was BEYOND fabulous!

I oohed and aahed like I normally do, just before I get to that point of having the big O.

Honestly, I don’t mean to brag but I was so proud of myself that I actually COOKED. And it was GOOD!

And do you know what I did? I took a picture so I would have PROOF to show you.

Here it is…

And do you know what else I did? I found another picture online so I could show you what an evil and despicable LIAR I am.

Here it is…

GOTCHA!!!!!

Yes, I lied. But not completely. Because I did place it in a microwave and COOKED it for 5 1/2 minutes.

Oh, and I did make the SALAD. I swear. No lie.

Have a delicious weekend everyone!

  1. Ha ha! You're such a fibber! So I guess I should return that cookbook I bought for you?
This is so funny because I don't cook, either, but the other day my Stouffer's meal required baking instead of microwaving. All I did was preheat the oven and my smoke alarm was going off. I think it was warning the neighbors!
    Have a great weekend!

  2. Laughing here. Oh you little liar, and there was me taking it all in. Mind you, it takes skill to get the microwave timing right since they don't all tally with written instructions. I found that out to my cost! I don't like cooking although I have to do it to feed the other half. If it was left to me I would eat out every day.

An enjoyable post, Ron, as ever. Have a brilliant cook-free weekend.

Some results are in...tested positive for Behcet's Disease. lovely. Another Awesome Auto Immune Problem. NOT LOVELY. Ah well...life goes on, my friend, and we all try to make the best of it! 4. Hahaha...you totally had me going there, Ronnie!!! Even if you aren't a chef, at least you have the lingo going for you.

My kids think I'm a great cook, but a lot of what I make is hit or miss. I always think food tastes better when someone else makes it. My all- time favorite entree when I'm alone is Stouffer's creamed chipped beef. It tastes like childhood to me.

  5. Haha! I was all prepared to write you a congrats comment! I like you do not cook but lately have found the beauty of a crock pot. I work at home on Wednesdays so in the morning I just throw some ingredients off a recipe in a pot and check on it every so often and it cooks itself. Its fab! For the cooking impaired I definitely recommend it!

  6. Oh, Ron, you had me going on that one! I was all set to praise your adventurous spirit and try my hand at cooking, too, and then you pulled the Margherita out from underneath me!
Shame on you, Ronnie boy! The ghosts of all the nuns you ever had in Catholic school are lining up right now to beat you with their rulers! You'll have the Big O, all right, as in "Ooooooooh, that hurts!!"
Nevertheless, it was a funny post and you did fool me! Have a tasty weekend, buddy, and if you get the urge to go into the kitchen and cook, go watch TV instead!

  7. I however, love to cook, and I WILL MAKE THIS Sounds gorgeous. Thanks for the idea Ron. And really, you should get into cooking, it's such good fun and therapeutic at the same time. Very relaxing.
Hopefully the post I sent you a preview of will make it online after all, so maybe I can make some converts to the lovely lady. (Ssshhh, don't tell anyone)

  9. Ron, I was all ready to praise your efforts for cooking and then you hit us with the ending. You are so bad, but so funny! I totally believed you because your photo looks like it was homemade. As you were describing what you did to prepare it, I was all set to make it myself because it sounded delicious!

I've eaten a few of those Healthy Choice entrees before and I have say they are really good.

Yes, you are so right! In fact, I just recently got a new microwave and it's so much stronger than my last one that I've already OVERCOOKED things.

" If it was left to me I would eat out every day."

Thank you. I agree! I could care less if my apartment even HAD a kitchen - HA!

  12. Hey there Jeanne!

" I use my oven for storage!!"

OMG...that is sooo funny because I used to do the same thing in one of my apartments in Florida. And I also did the same thing with the dishwasher. I mean I don't even cook, so why would I have the need for a dishwasher?!?!

"I had that very same meal just the other day! Love those! Last night I had the Ginger Chicken!"

Aren't Healthy Choice dinners AWESOME???? I will sometimes find them on sale and buy a BUNCH. Honestly, they really DO taste homemade!

"Some results are in...tested positive for Behcet's Disease. lovely. Another Awesome Auto Immune Problem. NOT LOVELY."

Aw shucks, sorry to hear about that. But I know you have a very strong and positive spirit, so you will get through this. I just know it.

"I always think food tastes better when someone else makes it."

AMEN! I TOTALLY agree with you! I make a great dinner guest because I'm forever praising the person who cooked the meal; raving about. I will also bring a bottle of wine.

I cannot believe you mentioned a crock pot because I work with a woman who uses one and RAVES about it. She works and also has three children. She will throw everything into a crock pot before she comes to work, so that when she gets home...VIOLA! it's ready to eat!

I may get one this Fall and try it for stews. I love stews!

  25. Hi Ronnie,
What a sneak... We were all believing that you were a "born again" chef.
No...Are you sure about those Italian genes?!
What will do (maybe) the trick; coming to Paris and eating and trying a cooking course( and doing and more eating).
I am not Italian but when I want to cook something, I get busy. Today was ironically a cooking day. I had a crustless quiche with Feta cheese & veggies. Tomorrow, I take it easy, go out and just whip up something easy when we return.
    BTW, your meal looks delish.
Take care hon and have a great weekend!!

I suppose heating in the microwave counts as cooking -- on one level or another -- but my Italian grandmother and mom would have a few choice words for you in opposition, I'm afraid.

But you know what? It did look healthy!

I used to lived behind a house in a garage apt. when I still lived in Florida. And the husband and wife grilled almost every single night. I don't think they ever used the oven or stove to cook. And the smell from the grill, which would perminate up through my apartment windows was delicious!

Hey, I'll bet that salad was amazing!! ;)
I have been cooking for a long time now but there are just days when I don't feel like it at all and we go out or get take out.
I have made many things over the years.. even tried homemade pasta! I think my specialty is probably soups/stews. We had my version of Zuppa Toscana the other night and Chili Con Carne recently too. Last night, I picked up a roasted chicken from ShopRite, made a salad, and heated up the leftover soup. Today I had a banana/coffee at Starbucks and now that I'm home (and our internet and phones are back on... yay!) I had a silly lunch... Garden Veggie chips right out of the bag, 2 mini York Peppermint Patties, a mini Almond Joy and you don't want to even know how many Twizzlers.
I used to eat assorted frozen dinners but now that I'm on a different diet, most of them have ingredients I can't have. They weren't bad though.

"Today I had a banana/coffee at Starbucks and now that I'm home (and our internet and phones are back on... yay!) I had a silly lunch... Garden Veggie chips right out of the bag, 2 mini York Peppermint Patties, a mini Almond Joy and you don't want to even know how many Twizzlers."

Bwhahahahahahaha! I eat the same way a times. I'm not one of those people who watches every single thing I eat. I eat balanced, but I certainly don't deprive myself of thinngs like candy (chocolate and twizzlers) at times. I believe in moderation. And I LOVE a glass of red wine every night.

    Thanks for stopping by, neighbor!

  58. Okay, listen - I think you did cook it, from scratch. Wanna know why? 'Cause those frozen meals NEVER, EVER look that good! You had to do something to it. Seriously.

I HATE to cook and should I win the lottery, I am never going to cook again. I'll hire your brother! :)

I will also be purchasing one of those Healthy Choice meals to see if you are truly a liar!

I swear to god, I did not cook this. However, what I did do is fluff it up and make a presentation.

And I OMG...can he COOK! And it's funny because he just throws things together and they taste faaaaaaaabulous!

Yes, try these dinners because, honestly, they taste like homemade. I doctor them up a tiny bit, by adding maybe some crushed garlic, grated cheese and olive oil.

And sometimes you'll find them on sale - 2 for 1

Thanks so much for stopping by, Sis! Hope you're having a super week!

    X ya!!!!
