Have you ever heard a song that you can't get out of your head?

I have, plenty of times. Something about the song will hit me in the solar plexus and resonate with me.

When people discuss music, it's as sensitive a topic as politics because I find that people feel very passionate about their taste in music and will debate about it until the cows come home.

However, you really can't debate music because it's like a piece of art. Not everyone is going to feel it the same way. Music is about your own personal interpretation and how it touches you.

My taste in music is so varied that I really don't have a specific genre that I prefer.

I've been known to listen to opera, jazz, rock, pop, blues, big band, and even country.

I will like a song for its overall energy and how it makes me feel, more so than thinking genre.

If I like a song, I just like.

Such as it was when I heard the song, Roar, by Katy Perry.

Yeah I know, KATY PERRY?!?!?!

How GIRLY of me.

I honestly didn’t know much about Katy Perry's music before hearing this song. Sure, I had heard OF her and have smelled her recent celebrity fragrance in department stores, but that’s about it. However, when I first heard this song and then watched the video, I ended up loving it to the point of watching it a MILLION times. And the funny thing about it is that they even play this song at work, so I hear it a few times a day. I will sometimes grab a bottle of perfume off the counter and use it as a microphone, while lip syncing and dancing to the song right there on the sales floor. You think I'm kidding? Well I'm not. I've even had a few female customers walk over and start singing and dancing with me. One lady even tried to tip me (pennies and nickles).

For those of you who have never heard Roar, or are thinking, “WHO THE HELL IS KATY PERRY?, allow me to introduce her in this video.

But first a brief overview of the song:

I love this song and video because it's UPLIFTING. I love the words because they pertain to speaking up for yourself when you need to and not be afraid to ROAR if you have to, because sometimes in life and in certain situations, you need to roar to make your point. And roaring doesn't necessarily mean yelling, it means standing strong.

This song is also about overriding life's challenges and discovering your inner champion. Hearing this song makes me feel good.

And I love the music itself because I think this song has a great beat.

And lastly, I love the computer graphics in this video because it’s so cleverly done.

Oh, I forgot one other thing.

I also love all the animals in this video. Some are computer generated, but some are real. The little monkey is ADORABLE. And the tiger is stunningly beautiful. A tiger is my FAVORITE animal in the world.

So allow me to share the song that has been going through my head for over a week, and will probably go through my head for another week, until I get a partial lobotomy.

And for those of you who have already heard this song or have watched the video and don’t care for it, feel free to skip it. You can just scroll down below the video and see the beautiful pictures of me AS Katy Perry.

If you have trouble viewing, go here.

Have a ROARINGLY great weekend everyone!

  1. Hey, Ron!

Katy Perry has always come off as quite likeable. She hosted "Saturday Night Life" a few years back and she was funny.

I like the song and the video--especially since she's wearing less clothes as it goes along. (Perv alert!)

"If I like a song, I just like."

That just sums things up for me. Putting labels on our music takes the fun out of it.

And speaking of fun, I do love the Ronnie Perry shots. And I'd give ANYTHING to see you dancing on the sales floor! Or at least 50 cents...

Have a roaring great weekend, buddy, and lip synch till your face falls off!

  2. You are right, Ron......music is just one of those things. One song can touch a person deep inside, while ithe same song can just plain annoy the next person.

For some reason, I have never like female solo artists. I have no idea why, but I just don't enjoy their music. So, nope not a Katy Perry fan. Right now, I'm obsessed with the Sweater Weather song by The Neighbourhood. I could listen to it all day......cuz it's too coooolllllddd for me here (just google it!)

    Have a great weekend!

  3. You are so right, music is purely a personal thing, I would never argue the subject or decry anyone taste. My iPod contains Soul, Country, Jazz, Reggae, Rock, New Age, Blues and some I can't define and I love it all! :)

  6. Ron, Ron, Ron. I like you so much that I WANT to like Katy Perry for your sake. Want to, but just can't. I have never liked a single song of hers and this is no exception. I even had to turn the video off part-way through, because I was liking her even less as it went.

That said, I do love the message of the song. It's very much a song of empowerment, and that's a really good thing in this age of calling women bitches and ho's. Sort of like Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger" (which I actually do like) and Natasha Beddingfield's "Unwritten" (which I love). I think it's especially important for girls to hear songs about finding your own power, so I'll give Katy Perry credit for this song. Maybe it will erase some of the ick factor for me for her many other abysmal songs (California Girls, Teenage Dream, LAst Friday Night and worst, Ur so Gay). Hmm - now that I've listed them out, I'm not sure it will!

  7. Ron, I've heard this song and have seen the video and love it too. One of my nieces is so in love with this song and plays it all the time. I took she and a few of her girlfriends out for a Saturday afternoon of shopping one weekend and when the song came on the radio, they all started singing it out loud together. It was so cute! I agree, this song is very uplifting and carries a great message. Have you seen any of the videos made by high school students for the Katy Perry Roar Contest? Some of them are so incredibly touching because the kids also made them to raise money for certain causes like, cancer research.

What a great post, Ron. And the photos of you as Katy Perry are so funny. Love you in the clam shell!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  8. My music tastes run the gamut as well with classical, rock, island, blues, soul and a wee bit of country all taking space in my iTunes. This song is very inspiring and, visually, the video is stunning. I have to say the costume is awfully cheesy! But animals steal the show every time. As for your collage.....um....I may be starting to get a bit concerned about you! ;-) Hope your weekend is wonderful.

" Especially so because here I am sitting here blogging and actually LISTENING right this very MINUTE to Katy Perry singing ROAR!!! No kidding!! I LOVE it!!"

    *clapping*

    OMG...that is SOOOOOOOO ironic!!!!!!!

I'll tell ya, ever since I heard this song, I can't get out of my head. I have it bookmarked on my computer so I can listen to it every morning before I head out for the day.

"You really should check out the movie she did last summer....I think it's out in RedBox right now for rental. My daughter and I saw it and just thought she was amazing!!"

Thank you for sharing that because I had read something online that she made an autobiographical movie this summer, so I will look for it in RedBox. In fact, I may do that this weekend.

Much thanks for stopping by, dear lady. Have an AWESOME weekend!

  11. Goooood morning Valerie!

"I have heard it before but didn't know the singer. I do now, though. Now that I've stopped dancing, can I get on with preparing my shopping list... haha."

    HAHAHHAHAHAHA! Isn't the it catchy?

Me too. I kept hearing the song at work and loved it, but had no idea who was singing it. Someone finally told me it was Katy Perry, so I came home and found the video over at You Tube and have been listening to it for over a WEEK.

"Music for me takes precedence over television. I couldn't live without my collection."

THANK YOU! I don't watch television at all, but will always have some of music playing in the background when I'm at home. I especially love listening to music whenever I'm doing housecleaning.

"The pictures are amazing, it's not everyone gets to sit in an oyster shell. Was it comfortable?"

Bwhahahahahahhaha! No, it hurt like HELL, but it was worth it for the sake of ART. HA!

Much thanks for stopping by, dear lady. Wishing you and Joe a lovely weekend!

"Katy Perry has always come off as quite likeable. She hosted "Saturday Night Life" a few years back and she was funny."

Thank you for sharing that because I still don't know much about her OR her professional life. I will look for that SNL video clip on You Tube this weekend and check it out.

"I like the song and the video--especially since she's wearing less clothes as it goes along. (Perv alert!)"

Bwhahahahahahahaha! I know, I've read certain articles online about how some people were offended by her skimpy (Jane) outfit. I was like PAAAAAAAAALEESE, it was no more skimpier than some of the stuff I see people wearing out on the streets like, those pants that hang down below some people's butt; exposing their underwear.

" And I'd give ANYTHING to see you dancing on the sales floor! Or at least 50 cents..."

    HA! Thank you!!!!!

Have a roaring weekend too, and thanks for stopping by, buddy!

" One song can touch a person deep inside, while the same song can just plain annoy the next person."

I know, it's that something? It's like looking at a piece of artwork and some people seeing it as beautiful, but others seeing it as just plain awful. You're right...it's personal.

"For some reason, I have never like female solo artists. I have no idea why, but I just don't enjoy their music. So, nope not a Katy Perry fan."

I totally understand because I was never a big fan of The Beatles, but whenever I say that people say, "How can you NOT like The Beatles?????"

"I'm obsessed with the Sweater Weather song by The Neighbourhood. I could listen to it all day......cuz it's too coooolllllddd for me here (just google it!)"

HA! That's totally okay, girl, because I understand. People either seem to LIKE Katy Perry's music or not. And trust me, some of the people work with can't stand this song.

" It's very much a song of empowerment, and that's a really good thing in this age of calling women bitches and ho's. I think it's especially important for girls to hear songs about finding your own power, so I'll give Katy Perry credit for this song."

Exactly! And I cannot believe how much this song and video have gone viral over the Internet with so many young ladies loving the message. You're right...it's a song of empowerment. Especially to women, which I totally appreciate because I think women are powerful.

Yes, I did read something online about the song, "Ur So Gay" and how some people didn't like it. However, I haven't heard it myself but will have to Google it and see what I think.

Isn't that the wonderful thing about music? There is something out there for everyone's taste. And it's funny because my taste in music keeps changing. Certain music that I didn't like many, many years ago (such as country), I love now. Also, I was never a bit rock music person, but I hear certain songs now and love them.

"I have to say the costume is awfully cheesy!"

Yes, I've read SEVERAL articles online in which people shared your same feeling.

Didn't you LOVE the animals? The monkey is so cute! I love when he sticks out his tongue.

    They're faaaaaabulous!!

The way you feel about "Roar" is similar to how I feel about "Eye of the Tiger." That has always been MY song of empowerment! When times were rough and my back was to the wall, I'd listen to Survivor, and feel powerful and inspired. Daresay, It made me feel I could "rise up to the challenge of my rivals!"

So I say this: you go, boy!

  23. Lol! Ron, you are such a cuuuute Katy Perry! HA. I saw the title and the song started to immediately go through my head! So catchy, and I have LOVED her for a while now. See, I took the little girls to a movie (for the popcorn) and the only thing showing was the Katy Perry movie. I had no clue who she was, but man by then end of the movie? I knew who SHE was, who her Grandma was, all about her evangelistic preacher parents, and her failed marriage. I cried, Ron. I cried in front of my little girls at the Katy Perry movie. Then, I bought her album. She is amazing. Great to see this!

I didn't realize there was an actual video on the song so thank you for sharing it. And what a great video it is. I watched it this morning while I was a work but had to keep the volume down. Love the song Ron, it is uplifting and the backgrounds etc, are so pretty. Music is a powerful force and yes, I can totally relate to having a song going on and on in my mind. Usually, it's something I like but once in a while, it's one of those God awful jingles that you hear in some store that just won't let go! We have a Save On store here and their store song is: More, more, more...and so on. That's one that was driving me crazy for a while. Wishing you a great weekend, G

Yes, my friend, you are right. Music, like art and writing, is very personal and subjective. And all of us creative types tend to be quite sensitive, making the rejection of our art hurt deeply. Guess that's why those doing the rejecting need to remember to dish up a compliment along with their "no," huh?!

"The tiger, however, is beautiful, and I love it when Katy paints the elephant's toenails hot pink!"

Isn't the tiger beeeeautiful? There is something about a tiger that I love and always have. They're markings on their fur are just stunning to me. And yes, isn't it cute when Katy paints the toenails on the elephant? And PINK!

"And all of us creative types tend to be quite sensitive, making the rejection of our art hurt deeply. Guess that's why those doing the rejecting need to remember to dish up a compliment along with their "no," huh?!"

I think from being a stage actor for so many years, I'm use to the rejection and realize that no one sees the same performance on any given night. It's about interpretation and how the audience sees things. Some will like a performance and others not. I've been slammed in some reviews and praised in others. Yet, it was same performance. Like you said, it is very personal and subjective.

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, dear lady. Hope you're enjoying a super weekend!

  48. Well, the verdict is still out on the video, but by golly I adore you with the pink hair and the record hat! LOL I can see how it got stuck. Don't ask me why....I've had that "you can count on me like one, two, three--I'll be there...." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59TrrF8lzKs) deal going through my brain the past few days. I've even hummed it enough himself is glaring at me when he finds himself whistling it. *laughing* Love it!! Think I'll blare it for him this morning. LOLOL

We're all about music diversity in this house. Bit like you anything from symphony to opera to good ol' golden oldies and foot stompin' Yeeeehawww music. LOL For some reason Jason Glass is being played a lot at the moment. Perhaps I'm suppose to find it soothing? LOL

I agree with you about music being one of those personal things for each of us. I grew up with some loyalties to some bands--and lost that as I got a bit older and they did too. LOL

Different moods require different music around here.

OH!! Which reminds me I need to get my ooky spooky CD's goin'....LOLOL No words, but a lot of creeking doors, a few howls and a whole lotta evil laughing and cackling! :-D

HAHAHAHAHHAHA! Thank you, Mel....X Pink is one of my favorite colors, so I couldn't resist dying my hair for the MTV Awards!

Okay, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the video clip you shared. I watched it TWICE and will watch it again later. I love the words, the beat and the clever drawing graphics. Thanks so much for sharing such an awesome song!!!

" I grew up with some loyalties to some bands--and lost that as I got a bit older and they did too. LOL"

Yes, isn't it something how that happens? As we get older, some of the music we enjoyed we no longer do. Yet, some of the music we didn't enjoy then, we enjoy now. I never used to like country music, but I find myself now enjoying some of it.

"OH!! Which reminds me I need to get my ooky spooky CD's goin'....LOLOL No words, but a lot of creeking doors, a few howls and a whole lotta evil laughing and cackling! :-D"

Bwhahahahahaha! You GO, Mel!!!!!! When I was a kid, I had an LP record of Halloween sound effects, which I used to play really LOUD in my bedroom.

Thanks oodles for stopping by, dear lady! Have a glorious Sunday!

  50. And back to you Ron. And I'm so glad you're going to give Focus Booster a try. My productivity soared this week, due in no small part to this helpful desktop add on. And I haven't had any problems with spam etc, from this company either fyi.
I really love this video and all the photos in this post. I'm going to come back again on days when I need a smile.
Your posts are always grrrrreaaaeat. :<)
Happy Weekend Ron. Has it cooled down a bit in PA?
PS: If you need some cooking inspiration (don't know if you like to cook?) I just posted some good soups at:

  51. Good morning Geraldine!

"I really love this video and all the photos in this post. I'm going to come back again on days when I need a smile."

Thank you, so glad you enjoyed this music video. Yup, I've done the same thing this week. I keep watching it and smiling :)

Yes, it's finally cooling down a bit in PA. But I'm so looking forward to REAL fall weather soon, the kind that has that bit of chill in the air - love it!

No, I don't cook much, but I love soups and stews during the colder fall and winter months.

    Have a super Sunday!

  52. Ron, I stopped by again to watch the video and really enjoyed it. I bookmarked it on You Tube so I can listen and watch it often. Hope you had a great weekend, Katy!

  53. Okay, I'll admit, that was an entertaining video. No two ways about it. At the end I thought it was going to be a Dallas "it was all a dream" thing, but nope. Heh....tons of fun!

It's pop, and pop music does have its place on the musical landscape. Some days you just want to shake booty, and this song perfectly fits the bill. Great post...and that there's some talented Photoshopping! :-)

  54. "At the end I thought it was going to be a Dallas "it was all a dream" thing, but nope. "

HAHAHAHAHA! Yes, it did appear that it could be like the 'dream sequence" from Dallas!

"Some days you just want to shake booty, and this song perfectly fits the bill."

Exactly! For some reason, this song just HIT me in the right place - the music and the message.

"and that there's some talented Photoshopping! :-)"

Thanks. It was very easy because I made them over at Face In Hole.

Hope you had a great weekend and got some R&R after your busy week at work. Thanks for stopping by, buddy!

X to you, Karin, and Mr. Tyler!

  55. Oh I absolutely L.O.V.E. Country! Have you listened to The Judds and Jace Everett? One of the highlights of my life was going to a show at The Grand Ole Opry - a lifelong ambition of mine, it was incredible!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yes, I've heard BOTH of the recording artists you mentioned and LOVE them!

"One of the highlights of my life was going to a show at The Grand Ole Opry - a lifelong ambition of mine, it was incredible!"

Oh, how AWESOME, Pearl! And I bet it was exciting!

  58. Aw...thank you, Nitebyrd! Don't I make a faaaaaaaaaabulous Katy? HA!

"I accidentally heard Miley Cyrus on "Ellen" and am totally in love with "Wrecking Ball"!!! Me! liking Miley Cyrus!!!! Armageddon is nigh."

Bwhahahahahaha! OMG...that CRACKED ME UP! Especially after reading that post you share about her. Oh well, I never knew much about Katy Perry until I heard this song, and now I LOVE her. Yeah...so GIRLY of me - HA!

"Don't you wish all witches were Samantha or better yet, Endora! ;)"

Amen! And didn't you LOVE that show? Endora was the BEST!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Sis! Hope you're having a super week. We're FINALLY getting some REAL fall weather and it's beautiful! So cool and crisp!

  59. The three photos... I am DYING! You should have gotten one of you embracing her ex husband as well! AH HA HA now THAT would be a good one HA HA HA HA!!!!

When I was oh so sick for so long, I watched the Katy Perry movie on netflix and REALLY enjoyed it. Her background with such a religious family is fascinating. I also like they showed her with no makeup in it. She looks completely "regular" and wasn't afraid to show it... nothing you would turn your head at on the street. Her fireworks song is very inspiring. :)

It's so funny you mentioned that, Katherine, because I tried to find one with Katy and her ex and couldn't!!!

" I watched the Katy Perry movie on netflix and REALLY enjoyed it. Her background with such a religious family is fascinating."

Yes, you are like the THIRD person on this post that has mentioned her film, and everyone said how GREAT it was. I will have to look for it a FYE because everyone has me so curious about it. If I watch it, I'll let you know what I think.

    Thanks for stopping by, girl!

  61. Well, I loved 'your' photos of Ronnie Perry... lol... but don't really care for a lot of newer music I guess. Still stuck in the 80s maybe?? ha!
I had seen part of her video not too long ago when a friend posted it on FB but can't say I know anything about her or her music.

  62. ". but don't really care for a lot of newer music I guess. Still stuck in the 80s maybe?? ha!"

No, I don't think you're stuck in the 80's, I just think everyone's taste in music is different. We can all like the same stuff, you know?

As I shared, I didn't know anything about her or her music before I heard this song and watched the video. She also made a movie/documentary that I really need to watch because several readers here said that they LOVED it!

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to catch up and comment on my posts. You're a sweetheart and I really appreciate that!

  63. Robert, I did the same thing! I have a lot of my favorite songs/videos bookmarked so all I have to do is click over to them.

Yes, I had a great weekend. I was outside most of the day enjoying this beautiful fall weather we're having. Hope you had a great weekend too!

  64. I had not seen the video before this post. I actually liked it. I have a hate love relationship with Katy Perry but this is a song that has grown on me. I know what its like to go through some challenges in life and need to go from "zero to mine own hero". This post couldnt come at a better time for me. Hope you have a fab weekend Ronnie!

  65. I have heard it before but didn't know the singer. I do now, though. Now that I've stopped dancing, can I get on with preparing my shopping list... haha.

I love all music except modern jazz, traditional is good and, yes, I even like country. Music for me takes precedence over television. I couldn't live without my collection.

The pictures are amazing, it's not everyone gets to sit in an oyster shell. Was it comfortable?

Have a brilliant weekend ... keep dancing.

  66. OMG Ron!!! This is PERFECT!!! Especially so because here I am sitting here blogging and actually LISTENING right this very MINUTE to Katy Perry singing ROAR!!! No kidding!! I LOVE it!!
