Overall, I would say that I’m a pretty healthy eater; yet I’m not a fanatic; watching every single thing I put into my body. Nor, do I follow any particular diet.

I don’t believe in denying myself things (like candy, cake, potato chips, coffee, and wine), I just try to consume them in moderation.

With the exception of chicken, I'm not a big meat eater.

However, about twice a year I crave beef. And when I do it’s a BURGER.

I LOVE a fabulous burger!

And with my burger, I must have French fries and a coke. Although it’s funny, I really don’t like carbonated soft drinks because they always make me burp through my nose. But whenever I eat a burger, I must have a coke because it's the perfect complimentary drink.

Tuesday late-afternoon, my dear friend Marge and I made a date with Five Guys. I don’t know if you have Five Guys in your area, but if you’ve never tried it you MUST. Their burgers are TO DIE FOR. And their French fries are to DIE FOR EVEN MORE.

So, after I met Marge at her bus stop, we headed over to Five Guys.

I must quickly interject here that the Five Guys I normally patronize was closed – and when say closed, I mean shut down – so Marge and I had to walk to another Five Guys about six blocks away, which is one that I am not particularly fond of because I don’t like the area. But I was so determined to have a burger that we went there anyway.

Here it is…

This Five Guys is located on Chestnut Street, which is a street I try to avoid at all costs because it's a chaotic and trashy part of Philly.

Here is my coke. I'm one of those odd people who likes to squeeze a lemon wedge into my coke because it takes away some of the sweetness and adds a little zip. It's delicious!

Here is my meal. I had a 'Little Burger' and a small order of fries. The French fries at Five Guys are incredible because they're always warm and very crispy.

And what I love about Five Guys is that your meal comes in a brown paper bag, which you tear open and use as a plate. Yeah, I know, it's a very Bohemian way to eat your meal, but hey, that's all part of the fun.

Here I am taking my first burger bite. My friend Marge took these photos with my camera. Thanks, Marge!

Here I am taking my second burger bite. And right after this, I had an orgasm.

It's called a Burgasm!

Here I am eating my first French fry. OMG... they were HEAVENLY!

And I need to admit here that not only did I eat MY fries, but I also ate HALF of Marge's order as well.

Yup, for a little guy, I can consume A LOT of food.

When it comes to French fries, I can literally eat them until they come out of my ears and nose.

Look, here they are coming out of my nose...

And again...

(somehow I think I look like I'm Chinese in this next picture)

And if that wasn't enough, here's a nice CLOSEUP...

And no, I did NOT eat these French fries after they came out of my nose, I swear!

Instead, I fed them to the squirrels...

You know squirrels...they'll eat ANYTHING.

Happy Monday y'all!

  1. Ok, Ron, I ate at a Five Guys one time when I was on a college visit with my son and I thought they had the worst fries ever!!! Maybe they have a quality control issue and not all of the locations cook them the same way! I'm just not much of a burger or fries girl, although I always did love Mickey D fries when I was a kid. A salty delight!

    That poor, innocent squirrel........

  2. *laughing* Just as well you landed at the one in the trashy bit of town, eh?!
Oh, and that poor squirrel....I thought you LIKED squirrels! :-/

I'm a lemon in Coke kinda gal myself--thought I don't do sodas very often. NOT that I'm burping through my nose (you can DO that?!.....oh wait.....apparently that nose has lots of talent.....).
I personally love the idea of ripping the bag and using it for a 'plate'--it makes me look normal. LOL I tend to do that, even with a muffin and coffee. I prefer my messiness to be caught on the paper, maybe? Or, it's just some quirk I've nurtured over the years to call my own.
I did have a momentary drool over the burger and fries. It's been eons since I've had a burger in a bun or french fries from a fast food joint. (darn gluten free jazz...) But ohhhhhhh they looked good. They looked good before you stuck 'em up your nose. LOL
I'll stick with coffee this morning, tyvm.
    Enjoy your Monday, sir!

  3. I must say that I also like to eat certain foods in moderation and I eat fairly healthily. I refuse to live my life in diets and deny myself any treats.

As far as burgers are concerned, I only eat them if we are out for a long time and it gets past food time. Then, I will only eat McDonalds Happy Meal (for kids), with fresh orange drink. However, We do eat plenty of home made burgers (no bun) and thoroughly enjoy them. I have to say that the chips in your photos would be a real no, no for me. They look overcooked and hard. My chips need to be crispy on the outside, soft inside and a nice golden colour :)

I might have guessed a chip would end up in your nose :)

  4. You earned it after the fire alarm ordeal!

I don't eat hamburger or coke, but I'd have the fires. Well, not the ones that have been in your nose.

Me, I get cravings for pizza.

  5. Whoa, Ron! The headline really got my attention! I thought, "damn, my boy Ronnie is on a hot streak!"

But, hey, a good burgasm is important, too! There are some Five Guys' places in the city, so I'll be sure to check them out. I tend to avoid beef, but I'll enjoy a good burger every now and then,

But I ain't sticking no French fries up my nose!

Excellent post! Have a great week, buddy, and watch your buns!

  6. Oooh I didn't know what to expect when I saw of the title of this post, it really caught my imagination Ron! LOL

I'm not a big burger fan at all and only like coke if it's got a brandy in it! LOL We did actually go to McDonalds on Friday because we had to pick two of our grandchildren up from school and they wanted a Happy Meal for their tea. They and MWM all had a beefburger and fries but I had a chicken burger and coffee because they don't sell Brandy in McDonalds. ;)

  7. Are any of the five guys named Mo?
That burger looks incredibly small. We're all lead to believe that y'all eat burgers the size of cows with whole loaves of bread either side of them. That looks like a sample.
And the chips up the nose is straight out of A Fish Called Wanda.

  8. Hiya Mel!

"Oh, and that poor squirrel....I thought you LIKED squirrels! :-/"

Nooooooo....I didn't really feed those fries to the squirrelies, I was only kidding. You KNOW how much I love squirrels, I would never do that :)

"I'm a lemon in Coke kinda gal myself--thought I don't do sodas very often. NOT that I'm burping through my nose (you can DO that?!.....oh wait.....apparently that nose has lots of talent.....)."

You do that too?!?!? Doesn't the taste of lemon in a coke ROCK??? I started doing that back in '70's because someone I knew turned me on to it. Ever since, I do it all the time now.

And yes, it seems that whenever I drink anything carbonated, it makes me burb through my nose. I'm really not a fan of soft drinks, however, with a burger and fries I love it!

"I personally love the idea of ripping the bag and using it for a 'plate'--it makes me look normal. LOL I tend to do that, even with a muffin and coffee. I prefer my messiness to be caught on the paper...."

Me too! I kinda like it because all you have to do after you're done eating is just wrap everything up in the paper bag plate and throw it away! It's FUN!

Much thanks for stopping by, dear lady. Have a FAB Monday and week!

  9. " I refuse to live my life in diets and deny myself any treats."

    Amen, Babs!

I eat like a European. I eat anything I want, in small portions and allow myself to enjoy it - and I've always been that way. Life is too short to deny myself things. I think I eat very balanced.

"Then, I will only eat McDonalds Happy Meal (for kids), with fresh orange drink."

Love McDonald's burgers too! Also, their fries are awesome! When I was teenager, one of my first jobs was working at a McDonalds.

"I have to say that the chips in your photos would be a real no, no for me. They look overcooked and hard. My chips need to be crispy on the outside, soft inside and a nice golden colour :)"

Maybe it's the picture, but those fries were like that. Okay, maybe not a golden color, but they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. When I bit into them, you could hear a crunch - HA! OMG...they were so good.

Much thanks for stopping by, my friend. Have a super week!

"There are some Five Guys' places in the city, so I'll be sure to check them out. I tend to avoid beef, but I'll enjoy a good burger every now and then,"

Me as well. I can't eat something like a steak because it feels too heavy for me. But a burger now and then is awesome!

Isn't that the BEST taste? I started doing that WAY back in the '70's when someone I knew told me about it. I thought they were crazy at first, but after I tried it I LOVED it.

" And the best diet for me is not the one where I deprive myself of certain foods (except white bread). Everything in moderation...calories in-calories out. But sometimes I just MUST have a greasy burger with fries too!"

You sound just like me! Life is too short to deny ourselves of some decadence. All in moderation :)

"And that looked like a real hamburger, not one of those things loaded down with "secret sauce."

Yup....that's what I LOVE about Five Guys burgers....they're a good old-fashioned American hamburger - basic and simple - lettuce, tomato, pickles and ketchup.

"the french fries looked too good to stick up your nose. But it was funny!"

  23. If that's how you treat your french fries, remind me to never dine with you while serving asparagus spears. I'm just sayin'.

We have a Five Guys nearby but I've only ever been once in my life. Probably because we also have a Sonic nearby and a Burgerville nearby and a Jack In The Box nearby and a Killer Burger nearby and....well, you get the point! I think it's time to give them another try, though.

  24. Ron, this post made me *hungry* -- I haven't eaten at a Five Guys in a while now, and I, too, find their food delicious! A bit too much, really, but oh so good!
And do you know the perfect compliment to a Five Guys burger-and-fries lunch? Ice cream! Yep, if you're gonna feast on that much food and wreck a diet, might as well go all the way!!
Glad to hear that even the squirrels shared the festivities!

However, the grease can be down right disgusting. There used to be a Five Guys in the plaza next to a law firm I worked for a few years back and I would buy a burger and fries and take the paper bag back to the office. By the time I got back the entire bottom of my bag was totally drenched in grease it was amazing the bag didnt break. But I kept going back. I guess we never learn ;)

I feel the same way! Having a burger is like a special treat, so I enjoy it more.

"you're funny. did anyone see you? not that you would have cared, which makes you more fun.'

HA! No, that's the funny thing about it....no one even noticed!

"ps does it look like that squirrel had too much to eat? ha!"

Is he not the CHUBBIEST squirrel you ever saw???? OMG...I just wanna pick him up and squeeze him he so cute!

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a fab night and week!

  45. Of course you stuck them up your nose. Oh, Ron. We love you. We have a Five Guys in Allentown and I'll have you know that that's straight where I went after I met you, Val and Meleah last time. I agree the burgers are to die for. I had a bacon cheeseburger and oh em gee, I would eat one right now for breakfast if you put one in front of me.

Have a super fantastic day, my friend!

  46. Hellooooooo Kathy!

"Of course you stuck them up your nose."

As soon as Marge and I sat down at a table, I said, "Okay...I want you to take a picture of me with French fries coming out of my nose so I can put them on my blog."

    She's like, "WTF?!?!"

    HAHAHHAHAHAHA!

"and I'll have you know that that's straight where I went after I met you, Val and Meleah last time."

OMG...you're kidding me? Isn't Five Guys faaaaaaaabulous!

" I had a bacon cheeseburger and oh em gee..''

Do you know what's funny? I think that's what Marge ordered too! It was that, or just a cheeseburger, I can't exactly remember. Me? I'm boring...I just ordered a plan burger with tomato, lettuce and pickles.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a super fantastic day and week!!

  50. We have a chain of burgers here in Alberta which I had never seen anywhere else I have lived. It's called Burger Baron. They have heavenly burgers (pardon me while I wipe the drool from my chin). The burgers are well cooked & smothered in a mushroom sauce plus all the toppings. Every bite can be messy but well worth it! They have crispy home cut fries too! Like you - I like to cut the sweetness in my cola, but I use lime instead of lemon. We're 2 of a kind.

  51. Hey Benze!

"Every bite can be messy but well worth it! They have crispy home cut fries too!"

    HOLY COW...Burger Baron sounds DROOLICIOUS!

I just went online to see if they have them here in Philadelphia and they do! I gotta check it out!

"Like you - I like to cut the sweetness in my cola, but I use lime instead of lemon. We're 2 of a kind."

Hey, I've never tried a lime but I bet it's fabulous!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a terrific week!

  52. If you like beef that much you should taste my grilled steaks, they're to die for.

'And no, I did NOT eat these French fries after they came out of my nose, I swear'

I read that just seconds after I thought it, dear boy. As you say, squirrels will eat anything... haha.

Sorry I'm late. Only spotted your post on the ipad this evening... Bloglovin' let me down. And then of course I couldn't reply straight away because the ipad isn't geared to Disqus. Here I am, though, on line - even though it took twenty minutes to get here. Honestly, the things I do for you whaaaaa x

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA! I kinda figured people might think that - tee, hee!

"Sorry I'm late. Only spotted your post on the ipad this evening... Bloglovin' let me down."

No problem, dear lady. Last week, as you know, I had some issues with my feed updating, so I understand. And yes, Disqus has issues with mobile devices, however, I do have it set to accept mobile, but it still doesn't seem to work. I think it has to do with Blogger.

"Here I am, though, on line - even though it took twenty minutes to get here. Honestly, the things I do for you whaaaaa x)

  56. Ron, I would have eaten the nose fries for $100. Yup, I'm cheap, and I woulda done it. AH HA HA!!!

So this is hysterical... we live parallel lives sometimes. My oldest and I went to pick up five guys Friday night. After ordering I noticed they have CAJUN fries. WOW! I asked about it and the guy said, "Lemme let you taste some!" So he gave my son and I a little cup with fries covered in their cajun spices.

They were really good! So he calls out, "You want me to make one of your bags cajun?!" I told him I would love it but could not because not everyone in the house likes spicy. So you know what he does next? He got a container and gave us a big thing of spice to take home! Woo hoo!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. OH! Ron you are hilarious! I have to have a Pepsi (coke if that's what they sell) with my burger too! (And boy does your coke look delicious! I want one now!!) I don't eat burgers all that much, but every once in awhile, I CRAVE them, too! And yep, give me some fries with that, please. 'Cept I don't stick them up my nose. But I will feed the wildlife. ;)

LOVE the squirrel! He doesn't even care that your nose hair is on his fries either! ha ha!

I don't know if I have a Five Guys around here. But I'm gonna check and if I do, I will visit that establishment, have a burger, coke and stick some fries up my nose just for you!!

Did you have snow today? I couldn't believe it when I woke up! It was very pretty though.

    Have a fantabulous week!

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Katherine you KILL ME, GIRL!!!!

OMG...you went to Five Guys this past Friday?!?! How ironic is that? Yup...parallel lives for sure! And we BOTH love pictures of decay too!

I had no idea they add CAJUN fries?! I will have to check them out the next time I go. Thanks for letting me know.

"So you know what he does next? He got a container and gave us a big thing of spice to take home! Woo hoo!!"

OMG... how COOL is that??? And how NICE of him!

Much thanks for stopping by, Katherine. Hope you're having a FABU week!

  59. Helloooooooooooooo Pam!!!!

" (And boy does your coke look delicious! I want one now!!)"

And it WAS delicious! In fact, I drank TWO of them!!!

"I don't eat burgers all that much, but every once in awhile, I CRAVE them, too!"

It's funny because I'm not someone who really likes to eat beef, except for a burger. However I can't eat something like a steak because it feels like it's too much.

"I don't know if I have a Five Guys around here. But I'm gonna check and if I do, I will visit that establishment, have a burger, coke and stick some fries up my nose just for you!!"

Bwhahahahahaha! Oh, I'm sure they do have one or two in your area of PA, because if they have them here, I bet they have them there as well.

"Did you have snow today? I couldn't believe it when I woke up! It was very pretty though.'

Do you know what's weird? I got up this morning around 9 AM and looked out my window to see what appeared to be snow on the roofs of the buildings across the city. However, I thought I was imagining it because I couldn't see any snow on the ground. So, yes...I guess it did snow here, but I missed it - HA!

But BOY, was ever COLD today. OMG...I LOVED it! I went outside and took photos later in the day.

Thanks soooooooooooooooo much for stopping by, my dear friend. Hope you're having a fantabulous week!

  60. Five Guys started cropping up around here two or three years ago. The first time I went to one it was with Lisa and the boys. Not knowing how many fries are in an order, we all ordered fries. Oh My God!!! We had enough to feed a small army.

They are damn tasty aren't they? They do Cajun spice fries too. Simply put... Deep fired heaven!

  61. Howdy Jeff!!!!!!

"Not knowing how many fries are in an order, we all ordered fries. Oh My God!!! We had enough to feed a small army."

OMG, I know!!! That's why I order the small fries because even those are hefty!

"They are damn tasty aren't they?"

    You said it! Yummy!

I just discovered from one of my other readers that they also have Cajun, which I had never noticed before. I gotta try them next time!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy! Have a faaaaaaabulous week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  62. Hey Ron, you never cease to totally crack me up!! I started seeing Five Guys when we were down south. I had no clue as to what they were as they didn't really look like burger establishments from the outside!! About a year later, I drove by one about an hour from us...but there is NONE close by. I will have to live vicariously through you, my friend!! I will totally take your word for it and next time I see a sign...I will make a beeline for the FIVE Guys!! And yes, it IS true...Squirrels will seriously eat ANYTHING!! Hope all's good with you Ron!! xo Jeanne

"...but there is NONE close by. I will have to live vicariously through you, my friend!! I will totally take your word for it and next time I see a sign...I will make a beeline for the FIVE Guys!!"

Oh bummer! Well, you ever spot one and are in the mood for a great burger and fries, you gotta try it because they are DELISH!

" And yes, it IS true...Squirrels will seriously eat ANYTHING!!"

I actually didn't feed those nose fries to the little squirrels because I love them too much. However, they DO eat anything. Kinda like PIGEONS.

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Hope you're having a FABU week!

X to you and the girlz!

  64. OH, I would not have been able to deal with that for all those hours!! Ours got tested here the other day when I was cooking bacon. We don't have an exhaust fan over the stove so whenever I make anything that gets a little smokey it goes right up the steps to our son's room and sets the alarms off. That's annoying enough... just having to go upstairs and shut it off while cooking... but to have it happening all day like at your building... NOOOO!!!! I'd have left and gone... somewhere... anywhere. Well, atleast you know they work so that's a good thing. :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Hey there Mary!

"but to have it happening all day like at your building... NOOOO!!!! I'd have left and gone... somewhere... anywhere. Well, atleast you know they work so that's a good thing. :)"

OMG...I thought I was going to go INSANE with that noise because not only was it LOUD, but it was also very HIGH-PITCHED, so it was torture!

But you're right, at lease I know they work. And that's a very good thing.

Thanks so much for stopping by and catching up on my posts. You're a sweetheart!

Have a super weekend, neighbor! I heard that this weekend it's gonna get very cold. And it's about time because the past couple of days have been so warm.

  66. Hard to believe it would take that long to test alarms! I can completely understand how crazy it must have made you feel. I may have opted to leave at 9am and not return until 9pm just to be safe! And why to smoke detector batteries always go bad in the middle of the night? That's a question I've always wondered....because it ALWAYS happens! Well, glad you survived with your hearing in tact. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  67. "I didnt even wait till the end of the video that screeching was so unbearable! And you had to deal with that for hours?!? I"

    Isn't the sound DELIGHTFUL? HA!

I know, I dealt with it for over three and a half hours. And what's amazing is that I could still hear that sound ringing in my ears when I got to work.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Shae! Have a fantabulous weekend!

  68. Hey there Rob!

"Yikes, that sounds like something they do with lab rats."

    HAHHAHAHAHAHA! Yes, it does!

". We all freeze in our tracks until the security people come over the PA and tells us everything's fine. I don't feel very safe, to be perfectly honest."

Is so ironic you mentioned that because we have the same thing happen where I work. The alarms in the building go off at least 2 times a month; causing us to evacuate until the Fire Department gets there and checks out the building. And most every time it's a FALSE alarm. But you're right, it's still scary.

Much thanks for stopping by, buddy. Have SUPA weekend!

  69. Hello David!

". Really I don't see why they have to be so loud. Although they could, I don't believe they will wake the dead anyway."

Last year the apartment building I live in put in new fire alarms because the ones we had were SO outdated that they were being constantly fined for regulations. However, the ones we have now work so much better, but OMG....they are soooooooooooooo loud. They installed a blaster in each apartment so that when they test them, it sounds as though my apartment is going to BLAST off - HA!

Yes, not a problem. Feel free to add your blog link within your comments.

Much thanks for stopping by, David. Have an awesome weekend!

  70. Oh Ron, you are so hysterical! I had the volumed turned up on my computer at work when I watched your video and I was laughing so hard in my office that someone asked me what that noise was and why I was laughing? I showed him your video and he laughed too.

Just listening to the sound of that alarm would have driven me crazy too, I don't know how you stood it because I don't like high pitched noise as well. I can't even stand the sound that the grass blowers make after the lawn guy cuts our grass at home.

Thank you so much for the laughs this morning, Ron. I may have to watch this video again durning my lunch hour.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Ron, you crack me up! I've got to confess I didn't play the video -- I, too, can't stand shrieky noises, and I was afraid my darling Dallas would become unglued if he heard it. And you know he's never far from his mama, ha!

I guess the good thing is, they tested the alarms. And found they all are working. It's a pity they didn't insist all the residents leave their apartments that day, perhaps take in a L-O-N-G movie or something! But at least they didn't test at night, right? Imagine the confusion *that* would've caused!

Have a peaceful weekend now, okay?!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Ok, I couldn't watch the video...hurt my ears, even Wylie looked at me like "PLEASE STOP IT! Those alarms can be so annoying. The one in our kitchen was super sensitive and went off every time I opened the oven; and no, it wasn't my cooking, lol! DirtMan relocated it just a tad farther in the room and now the alarm and I are friends!
