Ok, I have a confession to make.

But, shhhhh, you have to promise not to tell anyone because I don’t want this all over the Internet and the whole world knowing my business.

After all, you guys know how private, shy and reserved I am and that I don’t like sharing TMI on my blog, right?

Well…

Do you remember back in the late ‘70’s and ‘80’s, when Cosmopolitan Magazine first came out with those monthly quizzes that you could take to find out how you ranked in certain categories?

Like these:

Well, even though these quizzes were intended for females, I would take them anyway just for the hell of it to see how I ranked.

Besides, I LOVE taking quizzes!

And back then whenever you flew, the airlines usually had Cosmopolitan Magazine tucked inside the little pouch that was behind the seat in front of you. You know the pouch I’m talking about right? It’s that pouch which also contains the CRASH manual, giving you instructions on where the life jackets and emergency exit doors are; how to place the oxygen mask over your nose and mouth; how to assume the crash position; all while remaining calm as the plane PLUMMETS to earth and you CRASH INTO THE SEA!

*insert dramatic disaster movie music*

Anyway...

I would always take those Cosmopolitan quizzes whenever I flew because I usually flew alone, so no one could see me taking them (oh, except for the passenger sitting next to me). And what I would do was NOT fill in my answers in the magazine with a pencil or pen, no, I would take a separate piece of paper and write my responding answers on it, and then match my answers to the score ranker in the back of the magazine. And I did that because god forbid, I didn’t want to leave my answers INSIDE the magazine so that anyone else could read that I wasn't approachable, or not passionate, or a good-girl hot, or that I couldn't keep a guy intrigued.

But hey, come to think of it, there were never any answers written inside the magazine when I took those quizzes, so I bet everyone else who took them did the same thing I did.

All of which leads me to the point of this post.

Two Quizzes.

I found these quizzes online and thought they were interesting because some of it I thought was very true, while some of it was meh.

click on the photo to take the quiz

After taking this quiz I got this as my career:

*You are a giver, a justice seeker. You spend more time thinking about others than yourself, and more than anything just want what you’re doing to help someone in some way. Essentially, you is kind, you is smart, you is important. Other occupations: social worker, judge.

http://www.buzzfeed.com/keelyflaherty/which-mythical-creature-are-you
click on the photo to take the quiz

After taking this quiz I got this as my mythical creature (and how ironic, being a gay man):

*Positively enchanting! You’re naturally adorable, but your enemies are in for a nasty surprise if they think that means you’re helpless. You’re feisty and quick to act, and you’re a bit of a trickster and enjoy practical jokes. You know how to enjoy yourself. From appreciating a sunny day to standing up for what you think is right, you carpe the diem, always.

So if any of you ladies and gents feel like taking these quizzes sometime this weekend, please do. It only takes a minute or two (8-10 quick questions), and you will find out what career you should have and what mythical creature you are. Just click on the question photos above and you will be taken to the website. Have fun!

Wishing you an inQUIZative weekend everyone!

How the heck did I get 'Astronaut'?? A risk-taker, I am NOT. I blame this on there not being an Italian city for me to choose to live in.

I am a sucker for quizzes, too. I do the stupid Facebook ones too, to see whether some spotty youth somewhere can tell me which Jane Austen character or 'Little Miss' character I am. They're always wrong, but I do them anyway!

  2. Good morning, Ron. What fun. I was giggling even before I clicked the 'read more' button. I don't go in for quizzes of this nature, mainly because I don't fly these days and nobody else has thought to put the magazines I like on show. But I did take the quiz and it put me down as being a professor... or should be. I think 'should be' is probably the best way to take it... grins. I can just imagine me in professorial garments and specs resting on the nose. Hmmm I wonder if you need brains to be a professor?

Great introduction to my day, my friend. Thank you. Have a nice one!

  3. I used to like those Cosmo quizzes too. But honestly, my FB feed gets so clogged by people taking these quizzes that I'm tired of them. And some of the quizzes are so ridiculous....What State Am I? WTH is that?

But I do get suckered in to them, sometimes.........LOL! And just so you know, the city I should live in is Paris! Have a fantastique weekend, Monsieur Ronald!

  4. I struggle with quizzes because sometimes there is more than one answer to a question that I'm equally drawn to and other times there is no answer. Especially with the new FB quizzes where they will say things like "Which diva re you?" and then show 9 women whose identity I can't begin to guess.

That said, my quizzes, showed Writer for the first one And then second was Merperson. I was okay with both of those.

  5. Ronnie--the New Cosmo Girl!

This is a most fantastic post, Ron! And I think those quizzes got it right. You really is kind, you really is smart, and you really is important. And, of course, you is positively enchanting

I think you'd be a great fairy social worker, waving your wand over troubled waters and bringing peace to the kingdom!

I'll have to check out those quizzes, but meanwhile, shine on your crazy diamond and have a naturally adorable weekend!

    Take care, buddy!

  6. The Cosmo girl. Very funny!

I've always pretty much ignored quizzes but after seeing the results you got, I'm thinking they've got something going on. Seems they did miss the fact you are extremely creative but I guess they haven't seen your blog.

  7. Oh Ron, the picture of you as the Cosmopolitan cover girl is hilarious! You are so funny! I love taking quizzes too, especially the ones in the fashion magazine I buy. I know a lot of it can be BS, but it surprises me sometimes how accurate some of them can be.

I took these two quizzes this morning and got Humanitarian for my career as well, and I got the Phoenix as my mythical creature, which I thought was very true of me. I do feel as though I'm old soul.

Fun post, Ron! You always make me laugh, feel or think. Have a wonderful weekend x

  8. Hey there Jay!

Oh how cool...you got ASTRONAUT! As I was reading some of the comments below the the quiz website, I saw that many other people got Astronaut as well.

" A risk-taker, I am NOT. I blame this on there not being an Italian city for me to choose to live in."

I know, I was surprised that ITALY wasn't on the list to choose from! I chose New York City, but my second choice would have been Tokyo.

"I am a sucker for quizzes, too."

Aren't quizzes FUN? I know that many of them are silly, but they're fun to take anyway.

Much thanks for stopping by, Jay! Have a SUPER weekend!

" I don't go in for quizzes of this nature, mainly because I don't fly these days and nobody else has thought to put the magazines I like on show."

I know what you mean, I VERY rarely purchase a magazine these days because they are SO expensive. And now with the Internet, you can take most of these quizzes online.

" it put me down as being a professor... or should be. I think 'should be' is probably the best way to take it... grins. I can just imagine me in professorial garments and specs resting on the nose. Hmmm I wonder if you need brains to be a professor?"

HAHAHAHAHAHA! But hey, I think you would make a faaaaabulous professor, especially when it comes to WRITING because you are one awesome writer!

Much thanks for stopping by, dear lady. Have a lovely weekend!

Yes Bijoux, other readers have shared the same thing in their comments about FB and all the quizzes. I had a FB account many, many years ago, but deleted it because I just never found a use for it. But I do know that many people LOVE it.

"And just so you know, the city I should live in is Paris!"

Oh how FABULOSO! I've never been to Paris but would love to visit one day. Also, Italy!

Have a fantastique weekend too, Madame Bijoux! And thanks for stopping by!

Oh how COOL! I'm going to have to go back to the website this weekend and read up on the meaning of both of those. But I can definitely see you as a writer!

HA! Glad you enjoyed the Cosmo cover. I had so much fun creating it over at Face In Hole :)

"I know a lot of them can be BS, but it surprises me sometimes how accurate some of them can be."

Yes, a lot of them can be BS, yet many times I find them to be ironically accurate and spot on.

Oh how interesting, you got Humanitarian too?!?! I'll have to stop by the quiz website sometime this weekend and read up on the Phoenix, but it sounds fascinating because a Phoenix usually represents rebirth and change!

Thanks so much for stopping by, fellow Humanitarian! Have a wonderful weekend!

  15. Interesting quizzes my friend! As for my results...

    Career: Professor: "

    You are a thinker, in
constant search of knowledge and answers to life’s most illusive questions. You
love to analyze everything, testing out theories and pushing mental boundaries.
Basically you’re an Einstein, but then again you probably already knew that."

Well they are right I love to analyze and push mental boundaries but I am far from an Einstein. If anything I would say I think too much!

    Mythical Creature: Unicorn: "

You magical, perfect creature! You have a pure heart and
you always see the best in people. You value the simple pleasures in life, and
you’re an eternal optimist. You’re protective of those close to you, but you
avoid conflict at all costs. You do best in small crowds and one-on-one
situations, and when you trust someone, you trust them entirely."
Well besides the optimist part this one is pretty accurate. I try and see the best in everyone and I def do best in small crowds. However, sadly, I am an eternal pessimist lol.
Thanks for the fun quizzes my friend! Have a great weekend!

  16. Wait a second. I never found any Cosmopolitan magazines in the airline seat when I flew. Plenty of Sky Malls, yes. And a Business Insider or two. But no Cosmo. Which has me feeling gypped, because - hello - it's Cosmo! I totally would have read it for the articles.

BTW, took the career quiz and it says I should be a writer. Hmm. I'll take that under advisement! ;)

  17. Shae, thank you SO MUCH for posting your Career and Mythical creature results in this post!!!!

"Well they are right I love to analyze and push mental boundaries but I am far from an Einstein. If anything I would say I think too much!"

It's funny because sometimes I think I think too much as well. However, my immediate intuition is usually spot on, so I'm learning how to trust it more and more, and think less.

"Well besides the optimist part this one is pretty accurate. I try and see the best in everyone and I def do best in small crowds. However, sadly, I am an eternal pessimist lol."

I'm the same way, I do best in small crowds.

Much thanks for stopping by, girl, and for sharing your results! Have a FABU weekend!

Bwhhahahaha! Mark, you crack the hell up, man!!! But you're right, they don't have Cosmo (or any kind of fashion magazine) on a plane anymore - just Sky Malls or Business insider - BORING.

"BTW, took the career quiz and it says I should be a writer. Hmm. I'll take that under advisement! ;)"

You GO, boy! And write you are!

Much thanks for stopping by, buddy. Have a faaaaaaaaabulous weekend. Hope you're getting settled in your new place!

  19. I'm a professor, "an Einstein" apparently, which is interesting as I played a mental patient in a play called The Physicists at school. My character thought he was Einstein.
    And I'm a unicorn. "A perfect creature"
I'm not gonna argue with that.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well Ron, I took both the quizzes and here are my results:

    Career: Writer

You are a maker. Creative from the day you were born, you spend most of your time thinking about the world you live in. You are open to new ideas and value beauty and originality more than most. We both know you’re not really the office type, so give yourself some room to create. Other occupations: director, producer, advertiser.

    Mythical creature: Unicorn

You magical, perfect creature! You have a pure heart and you always see the best in people. You value the simple pleasures in life, and you’re an eternal optimist. You’re protective of those close to you, but you avoid conflict at all costs. You do best in small crowds and one-on-one situations, and when you trust someone, you trust them entirely.

I have say that for the most part, it's pretty accurate. I am not an office type person. And I'm much better with one-on-one situations than big crowds. I'm very protective of those close to me.

ROFLMAO! Love the Cosmo cover of you, dude!

Thanks for cutting and pasting your results from both quizzes!

    Writer and Unicorn...how COOL!

Yes, isn't funny how a lot of what they say pertaining to your career and mythical creature is pretty darn accurate? Particularly when it comes to the career, because even though it might not be the career you actually have, it kinda gives you an overview of your personality type and what you might be suited for.

I'm the same way, I do much better with one-on-one situations than big crowds. Although, I think it's ironic that I live in a city with CROWDS of people - HA!

  23. I don't know how, but I am a Professor! I must admit to always wanting to know why and how. I was always asking my dad questions, as a child and Mo always says I think too deeply ha ha!

The second one fits me better - A fairy. So you see, we are alike :)

  24. Ron, this was so interesting because my career was like yours, Humanitarian, and my mythical creature was Merperson, which is so true because I love the beach and the ocean. And it also said that I have a strong relationship with nature, which is very true. I don't normally take quizzes but these were fun, and I must say, fit me well.

That photo of you as a Cosmopolitan cover girl is so damn funny! I think you should do one for the cover of Sports Illustrated too LOL!

Funny, but I don't remember Cosmo being in the back pocket on airplanes. All I remember are the cards depicting the various exits on the plane, as well as the barf-bags, ha! Oh, and the travel magazines with those really expensive doo-dads to buy!

Nice picture of you with that sexy long black hair!

  27. If there was a Cosmo sitting in front of me in the 80's I wouldn'ta open it if ya paid me... LOL. Seriously, "I am woman, hear me roar"--I thought the darn thing was all about brainwashing women into being all that men thought women should be. So I never took the quizzes. I knew they existed...they were plastered on the cover, as everyone knew. I just couldn't be bothered, dontchaknow....too busy listening to Helen Ready and wondering if people were ever going to "get" that gender meant squat....it was the inside job that mattered.
Bit of a rebel, bit at odds with the world in general. I was just coming to understand what morals and values and principles WERE...I mighta been taking life a tad bit too seriously back then? LOL

REALLY makes ya wonder how I ended up "Humanitarian" and "Fairy", doesn't it?!!!
    OMG....that can't be right.
    C'mon.....gimme a break!!! Me?!!
...k...this is gonna weird me out. LOL...if I start dropping my "Things that make me happy" happy sun in to all sorts of famous bodies and posting 'em on the web log you have permission to call "foul!" AND the fellas in little white jackets. :-/

You are an artist, creative juices are oozing out of you. You’d make just as good of a designer as you would an architect, as long as you get to create something. You live your life like Michelangelo, constantly looking for the sculpture within the stone. Other occupations: architect, editor. bwahahahah...I don't think you would want to set foot in any building that I might design!! LOVE quizzes...absolutely love them!! I used to go to a site to take them, but right now I can't remember what it was...I will have to think about it and email you! Have a fabulous weekend Ron!! xo Jeanne and the girls

Do you remember National Airlines? Well, they had Cosmo in the back pocket of their plane seats. And also, Eastern Airlines. That was back they served REAL food on flights, not just a bag of almonds and a coke - HA!

" as well as the barf-bags, ha!"

However, I do think they suit us (being Libras) because Libras are usually well-suited for jobs of 'serving' others - like social workers, nursing and caregivers. I've also read that Libra's make great 'judges' and 'lawyers.' And it's funny because there was a time in my life when I thought about becoming a lawyer.
