Post updates by email:

It should come as no surprise to those of you who have been reading my blog for some time now, that I love to SMELL.

And I smell EVERYTHING. I even smell my food before eating it like a cat or dog.

Out of all my senses, smell is probably my favorite, which ties into the sense of taste.

I don’t know, perhaps it’s because of my Italian descent that I enjoy smelling and tasting so much because Italians are usually passionate about their senses when it comes to all that delicious food, wine, and pastries they’re notorious for. I think if an Italian person ever lost their ability to smell and taste, they would probably lose their will to live.

My sense of smell is also very acute. I can smell things from like 2,000 miles away. Also, whenever I smell a bottle of perfume or cologne, I can usually tell what “notes” were included to create the fragrance such as: musk, sandalwood, peony, bergamot, or black tea. And nine times out of ten, I can identify what fragrance someone is wearing from either walking pass them on the street or standing beside them.

I think I would probably have an excellent second career as one of those TSA "sniff dogs" at the airport.

Today, I thought I would share some of my favorite smells. And as an added bonus, I decided to conclude this post by sharing one of my LEAST favorite smells.

Please enjoy these aromas...

Is there anything more heavenly intoxicating than the smell of freshly cut grass? Whenever I smell it, I get the sudden urge to throw myself down and roll around.

I adore the smell of wood, but particularly cedar wood. One of my grandmothers had a cedar wood chest in one of her bedrooms, so whenever I would visit I would take everything out of the chest, climb inside, close the lid, and just lie there while breathing in the aroma. I felt like Dracula in a cedar wood coffin.

I love the smell of dryer sheets! Sometimes I'll even take 3 or 4 and place them around my apartment so that the whole place smells like dryer sheets.

One of my fondest memories as a child was when my father would pull our car into a gas station and have the attendant fill the tank with gasoline. I used to sit in back seat, close my eyes, and just INHALE. For some reason the smell of gasoline gives me such a warm-fuzzy feeling inside. And that's probably because it makes me STONED.

Ahhhh...pipe tobacco! Several of the men's fragrances I wear have the scent of pipe tobacco in them, as well as cedar wood and amber. I prefer very "earthy" fragrances.

I don't know what it is with me and the smell of these kinds of plastic bags, but it sends me over the edge and into ecstasy. Sometimes when I spot these in a store, I'll nonchalantly unzip the bag and stick my nose inside. The smell reminds me of when I was a kid and played with Colorforms (do you remember that smell?). FAB-U-LOUS!

As soon as the weather gets chilly in the fall, I enjoy walking down the many side streets here in Philly and relishing in the aroma billowing from the chimney's. It makes me feel all cozy, comfy, and relaxed.

Now, as promised, here is one of my least favorite smells...

Yes, I know I'm probably in the HUGE minority when it comes to this because most people love the smell of vinegar. But not me. Noooooo way. There is a restaurant/pub that is not far from where I live that cooks and serves their food with TONS of vinegar. And any time I walk by (especially in the summer heat, which makes the aroma of vinegar MAGNIFY), my nose wrinkles and I cringe in hideousness.

You know why?

Because to me, vinegar smells just like this...

Wishing you a sweet-smelling weekend everyone!
X

P.S. Please feel free to share some of your favorite (and least favorite) smells.

  1. I have to totally agree with you regarding the smell of freshly cut grass, cedar wood, and oddly enough, gasoline. I have a fond memory of riding motorcycles with my dad on some back trails many, many years ago, and that smell of gasoline and exhaust stuck with me. I guess it's one of those magical moments in time that these smells tend to stir up...

Yup...is not the smell of gasoline the BEST? And you're right, the smell of it stirs up some magical moments in time!

"Edit: This in HermanTurnip...unsure why my avatar is called foetusjones. I guess Discus is having an identity crisis and mixing up my user name with an old account. Heh..."

Yes, for some reason your comment was held in moderation before publishing. But no worries because I placed your user name and email address on my white list to be automatically published in future comments.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy! Have a fantabulous weekend!

  4. Yes, I like the smell of fresh cut grass and all wood... the latter reminds me of my carpenter father. I also like the smell of fish and chips on a winter night. I shall probably go around smelling everything now just to refresh my memory on likes and dislikes... grins.

Hey, how great to see Herman again. I do miss that man and his writing.

Hope you enjoy the weekend. It will be quiet here since Joe isn't so good the last few days.

  5. Okay Ronnie you missed one of my most favorite smells ever- freshly brewed coffee! You cant tell me you don't love that smell. Okay well you CAN tell me that but I won't believe you ;). I have to say I am with you on the vinegar smell though! I HATE it! I hate it so much when I am waitressing and I know a table is using it I have to hold my breathe to check on their table. It is that awful to me. Glad to see I am not alone!

  6. "I think I would probably have an excellent second career as one of those TSA "sniff dogs" at the airport." Ron, you are so funny! I too enjoy my sense of smell. And you should see my collection of perfumes because I have so many of them. I love to wear perfume. I also love a man who wears a great smelling cologne.

Funny you mentioned the smell dryer sheets because I wear a scent from Clean called Warm Cotton and it smells just like that. I wear it fragrance during the warmer months because it's light, fresh, and clean smelling.

I agree with you about vinegar.

Some of my favorite smells are books, after it rains, and carnations and freesia. One of my least favorite is the smell of a hospital.

Fun post, Ron! Have a wonderful weekend x

  7. Love, love, love cedar and pipe tobacco, too! Not so fond of the smell of gasoline though. I do agree most feet stink! Precious little baby feet are an exception!

  8. Hey there Bijoux!

"I love to smell everything too, although I wouldn't say I particularly LIKE any of the scents you mentioned."

Isn't it something how everyone likes or dislikes certain smells? Smelling seems to be almost as individual as a fingerprint.

"And although I love to smell real flowers, I hate floral perfumes and candles. Isn't that weird?"

No, I don't think that's weird at all because I love the smell of REAL gardenias, however, I don't care for a gardenia perfume.

"I like the smell of money . . . Bahahaha!"

HA! Yes, I agree. Especially freshly printed money!!!

Have a super weekend, my friend, and thanks for stopping by!

"Yes, I like the smell of fresh cut grass and all wood... the latter reminds me of my carpenter father."

Isn't it something how scent is often associated with a memory and whether we like or dislike it? They say that scent is one of the most powerful triggers when it comes to our emotions.

"Hey, how great to see Herman again. I do miss that man and his writing."

Yes, I agree! I was so happy to see his comment. I miss him and his writing too!

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Oh gosh, I'm sorry to hear about Joe. Please know that I'm sending 'good vibes' and prayers his way...

    Yes! Yes! Yes!

Shae, thank you for mentioning it because it's one of my favorites too! There is nothing more fabulous than the smell of freshly brewed coffee :) In fact, I'm sitting here this very second, drinking some freshly brewed coffee!

" I have to say I am with you on the vinegar smell though! I HATE it! I hate it so much when I am waitressing and I know a table is using it I have to hold my breathe to check on their table. It is that awful to me. Glad to see I am not alone!"

OMG...it's so great to hear that I'm not alone on that one. And to me, vinegar smells even worst when it's heated.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a super-duper weekend!

"And you should see my collection of perfumes because I have so many of them. I love to wear perfume. I also love a man who wears a great smelling cologne."

Meeeee too! I have such a HUGE collection of fragrances. And I'm one of those people who wears a different fragrance for each season.

" I wear a scent from Clean called Warm Cotton and it smells just like that. I wear it fragrance during the warmer months because it's light, fresh, and clean smelling."

Yes, I know exactly the line of fragrances you're talking about...CLEAN. And they're AWESOME!

"after it rains" I love that smell too! And I agree with you about hospitals.

  13. Ron, I will never smell vinegar again without thinking of that last visual Lol!

I love the smell of magic markers and a basement. And I agree with you on gasoline. One of my least favorite smells is a garbage dumpster.

""I would take everything out of the chest, climb inside, close the lid, and just lie there while breathing in the aroma. I felt like Dracula in a cedar wood coffin."

    You are one hilarious, dude!

  14. How about a new cologne called "Eau 'Ronnie!" It will have all the smells you love put into one bottle--it's drive the honeys wild!!

This is a cool post and I agree with almost all of your likes, though the gasoline had me a little confused. Maybe you were high!

I always liked the smell of mimeographed sheets that they used to give out in school. I used hold the stack to my nose and inhale! That probably explains why I failed algebra!

Wishing you an aromatic weekend, buddy, with plenty of wood (nudge! nudge!) and no vinegar!

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Rob, that's BRILLIANT!!!!! You may have touched on a very lucrative idea for me!

"though the gasoline had me a little confused. Maybe you were high!"

Exactly! I think I was HIGH!

"I always liked the smell of mimeographed sheets that they used to give out in school. I used hold the stack to my nose and inhale!"

Thank you, thank you, thank you for mentioning that because I AGREE! Mimeographed sheets were the BOMB! And you can tell you and I went to Catholic school, right?

  17. Ron, I'm half Italian, too, and I know just what you mean about that sense of smell. While I agree with some of your examples, I don't like the smell of chimney smoke -- it gives me a headache and aggravates my allergies.
Some of the scents I gravitate to? Well, how about spaghetti sauce simmering on the stove? Or chocolate chip cookies in the oven? How about lilac, my dog's Frito-scented feet (yes, really!), baby powder, incense at church, and that fresh scent after a nice rain?
I like how you mentioned gasoline. I prefer the smell of oil (my dad was a geologist!). As for the cedar, my mom and dad had an ENTIRE closet lined in cedar, and it smelled heavenly! You'd have wanted to sleep in there (and it would have given you lots more room than your grandma's chest!)
As for smells I dislike, I'll list a few -- bananas, bacon cooking, raw meats, body odors!!
    Happy weekend!

LOL! I'm sure you would! I agree and think smell is the most powerful sense in that it alone has the ability to bring back memories. I like all your *favorite smells* AND don't like vinegar either! I'd add one to the favorites list…the smell of rain in the air on a summer day. Have a sweet-smelling weekend! :-)

  19. Hey there Lisa!

    "LOL! I'm sure you would!"

Yes, I think I may apply for the job, what do you think? HA!

"I agree and think smell is the most powerful sense in that it alone has the ability to bring back memories."

You said it! I read somewhere that smell is our strongest sense for recalling memories and emotions. And I agree because when we smell something (positive or negative) we are immediately transported back to that moment.

"the smell of rain in the air on a summer day."

    AMEN!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a sweet-smelling and beautiful weekend!

  21. I love this post, Ron! I also love all those same smells as you. I totally remember the Colorforms, but I always associated those plastic bag smells with the blow up pool toys. Love it!

One smell that I can add is the smell of a fresh box of crayons. It reminds me of school when I was little. I adore that smell. Funny thing though is I hated the gravy-esque smell in the school cafeteria. It was a mixture of everyone's stinky food. Eww.

    Have a great weekend, Ron!

  22. I am super sensitive to odors/smells so aside from newly cut grass all those other smells would make me gag, and some of them (gasoline) would make me barf. I use unscented detergent and dryer sheets. I use unscented lotions - just about anything unscented that I can get my hands on, I buy. I don't mind food aromas when I am cooking but once done I can't abide the lingering smells - especially meat smells - okay, any food smells other than chocolate.

I do love the smell of the air just before and just after a storm. I love the smell of a garden after the rain, the earth (or dirt, if you must) smells rich and deep and dark and moist - it smells alive.

I do not like the smell of dead bugs (cicadas anyone?) or cilantro.

    ReplyDelete
  23. We went for our usual evening walk today and they had just cut all the grass. I stood for a while, just to smell it. Most of my favourite smells don't exist any more. Times have changed how they do and make things. They are aromas never to be sniffed in again, sadly. The smell of freshly delivered coal. The old type, before they made it smoke free and removed all the oils from it, along with the wonderful smell. You could smell the coal lorry from streets away and I loved it. Hot tar, when they were laying road surfaces. They don't make it the same now, either. The smell that came from the wood yard close by. I loved to smell all the different woods being sawn up, on large machines. Old books, when you flip the pages.

There are too many smells I dislike, to list, but petrol (gasoline) is one of them. I have to cover my face with a tissue when Mo fills up. It makes me nauseous.

Mostly I have an allergic reaction to fragrances, in any shape or form. It's the chemicals they use to create them, in most cases.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Pee Ess. I love the smell of vinegar. If I walk past anyone eating fish & chip, the smell of vinegar always makes my mouth water :)

  25. "I think if an Italian person ever lost their ability to smell and taste, they would probably lose their will to live."

I would go a step further and substitute "Mark" for "an Italian person." Because I can't imagine a life without the ability to smell and taste. Put me out of my misery now, just thinking about it!

Some of your favorite scents I agree strongly with. Cedar, a wood-burning fireplace, and pipe tobacco would all make my list. Freshly-cut grass just bugs me, though (allergies) - but it's one of Tara's favorite smells. And gasoline, not so much, but jet fuel? I wish they made a scratch 'n sniff sticker with that scent!

    Have an excellent weekend, sir.

  26. "I totally remember the Colorforms, but I always associated those plastic bag smells with the blow up pool toys. Love it!"

Yes, Michelle...you know EXACTLY the "plastic smell" I'm referring to because blow up pools toys (like Colorforms) is it! And isn't it an awesome smell?

"One smell that I can add is the smell of a fresh box of crayons. It reminds me of school when I was little. I adore that smell."

OMG...thank you for mentioning a fresh box of crayons because that's one of my favorites as well!!!!! God, I love that smell!

Yes, Grace, I know many people who feel the same way about using most everything 'unscented.' Some, because they are super sensitive and others, because of allergies. So, I can totally understand.

"okay, any food smells other than chocolate."

I am such a chocoholic, so I agree. I especially like the smell of dark chocolate because it's not as sweet-smelling as white or milk.

"the air just before and just after a storm. I love the smell of a garden after the rain, the earth (or dirt, if you must) smells rich and deep and dark and moist - it smells alive."

Love them too, and thank you for mentioning those :) I love the smell of anything "earthy."

Oh, how awesome, Babs! Isn't the smell of freshly cut grass delightful? So fresh and clean!

And you are so right about certain great smells not existing anymore because of the way things are made (or used) nowadays.

"Hot tar, when they were laying road surfaces."

LOVE that smell too! In fact, sometimes I will smell hot tar being poured on a roof or street and recall a time in childhood when they seemed to use tar much more. When I was a kid, you would smell hot tar a lot.

"Mostly I have an allergic reaction to fragrances, in any shape or form. It's the chemicals they use to create them, in most cases."

Yes, I can totally understand because many scents seem to be chemically (artificially) made. And I think that may be why more and more people are developing allergies.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Wishing you and Mo a beautiful weekend!

    X to you both!

"Freshly-cut grass just bugs me, though (allergies) - but it's one of Tara's favorite smells."

Yes, I can totally understand having allergies and the smell of freshly cut grass bugging you. Achooooooooo!

  31. You're so lucky! My sister has a really keen sense of smell, too, and I'm so jealous. I, on the other hand, can't smell for squat. Maybe that's why fancy foods don't excite me. I'm probably not getting the full flavor because I can barely smell it.

I always worry that because I can't smell very well that I stink! I just started wearing fragrance again (Happy by Clinique) and I hope to heck that I haven't put on too much because I have NO CLUE.

My sis loves the smell of gasoline, too! The plastic! Yes! New Barbie stuff smell! I remember that was how all of her extras smelled. You know, the plane, the country home, the ski lodge...

Some of my fave smells are coffee (which, incidentally, I hate to drink) and bus exhaust. Yes, bus exhaust. When I was little, there was a bus stop at the end of our street and I would my ride banana seat bicycle down to the corner and wait for my father to get off the bus at the end of the day. Whenever I smell that now, it reminds me of him.

    Have a great weekend! xo

  32. "I can smell things from like 2,000 miles away."

Wow Ron, you do have an acute sense of smell Lol!

Several of your favorites are on my list too. I don't use dryer sheets but I love the smell of fabric softener in my laundry. Wood of any kind, especially freshly cut. Pipe tobacco reminds me of my grandfather because he used to smoke a pipe and loved the way it smelled.

Some my other favorites are: toast, coffee brewing, and basil. Some of my least favorites are: curry, uncooked poultry, and vanilla scented candles, yet I like the taste of vanilla in food. And I'm not fond of vinegar either.

I don't know how the hell you come up with these topics each week, but they are either highly entertaining, like this one, or make me think about something in a different way.

I freaking LOVE the smell of Happy by Clinique! The best way to put fragrance on is to spray it on your pulse points (such as your wrists) and also spray it lightly in your hair because it lasts longer.

"The plastic! Yes! New Barbie stuff smell! I remember that was how all of her extras smelled. You know, the plane, the country home, the ski lodge..."

I agree with all three of those! Basil. OMG...I LOVE the way it smells (and tastes)! I put basil on so many things - salads, pizza, pasta.

"Some of my least favorites are: curry, uncooked poultry, and vanilla scented candles, yet I like the taste of vanilla in food. And I'm not fond of vinegar either."

"I can't love the smell of grass because I am HIGHLY allergic to it!! And to wood burning fireplaces....makes my asthma go absolutely CRAZY!"

I can understand that because I know many people who either have allergies or are highly sensitive to certain odors that it's difficult for them to be around.

" I do love the smell of COLORFORMS...they were the BEST!!"

Isn't the smell of Colorforms, the BEST? I wish they made a cologne in that scent - Colorforms Eau de Toilette - HA!

" I ask my husband to sit at another table when he puts it on his fries! (Not really....but I wish!!)"

And the thing about vinegar is the went you add it to something warm (like fries) the smell INTENSIFIES. Gag me!

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning" I guess one man's perfume is another man's stink. LOL Hilarious, Ron! Like I cannot get enough of stinky cheeses with a delicious glass of red wine.
Ahhhh, the smell of freshly mowed grass. A light bulb just went off. Ron, why not a flash mob to roll, roll, roll, on the grass. LOL Do you remember the scene in Young Frankenstein where Inge is singing and rolling in ze hay.
You know, Ron, my niece too loves the smell of gasoline, and I always wondered if it were a hormonal or chemical imbalance. 8-) And plastics are made with petroleum, so there you go.

Crayola crayons is one of my favorite smells. Takes me right back to childhood. Blue Grass perfume reminds me of my mother. Fresh lilac is just heaven.

    Gasoline - PeeYew! UGH!

  46. Helloooooooo there Petra!

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning" I guess one man's perfume is another man's stink. LOL "

Yes, that's very similar to my love of gasoline, so I completely understand!!!!

"Like I cannot get enough of stinky cheeses with a delicious glass of red wine."

OMG..... MEEEEEE TOOOO! And the stinkier, the better. Isn't funny that stinky cheese doesn't bother me, in fact I love it, yet stinky vinegar makes me gag. Like you shared, one man's perfume is another man's stink.

"A light bulb just went off. Ron, why not a flash mob to roll, roll, roll, on the grass. LOL"

HAHAHAHA! That's a great idea, Petra!!!!

And yes, I do remember that scene in Young Frankenstein!!!

"and I always wondered if it were a hormonal or chemical imbalance. 8-) And plastics are made with petroleum, so there you go."

Hey, I never thought of that, but you're right!

Much thanks for stopping by, my friend. Hope your weekend was delightful!

  47. Hey there Nitebyrd!

    "Vinegar, really? Even Balsamic?"

Yes, even Balsamic. I will eat it in salad dressing because I like the taste mixed with olive oil, but the smell drives me crazy!

"Crayola crayons is one of my favorite smells. Takes me right back to childhood. Blue"

Faaaaaabulous smell! And I especially love he smell of a fresh box of crayons.

Yes, Blue Grass perfume (from Elizabeth Arden)! Great smell!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Sis! Hope your weekend was awesome!

    X ya!

  48. Me either, Ron. I don't like food scented candles at all. If I burned a scented candle, I like it be some kind of aromatherapy candle. Something that smells like eucalyptus, lavender or rosemary.

  49. "I like it be some kind of aromatherapy candle. Something that smells like eucalyptus, lavender or rosemary."

Same here, Robert! There is a certain brand of candles I like to get, which I find CVS that are all aromatherapy scented. LOVE them! And they're not very expensive at all.

  50. Ron, this is one of those posts where I laugh and then laugh some more and laugh some more. You always make me grin from ear to ear. The plastic bag thing... I can picture you sniffing bags in stores and it is KILLING ME!!!!! I can't get past that picture... I am still laughing.

The pipe and the gasoline... my Dad smoked a pipe... I remember some of the tobacco smelled good. Of course he died of cancer... :( Wish I never smelled the stuff. And the gasoline... I loved that smell. This may sound odd but I also loved the smell of beefeater on the rocks with an olive. My parents drank that before dinner and I loved the smell. It meant people would be relaxed... that a good dinner was cooking... I can send myself back in time thinking about it.

Vinegar... it makes me wonder how you feel about the smell of boiling eggs?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Helloooooooooo Katherine!

Glad you had a giggle. Aren't I INSANE with the plastic bag smell? But I can't help it, it's like an aphrodisiac for my NOSE.

It's odd because I don't care for the smell of cigarette tobacco, yet pipe tobacco is totally different. I think it's because pipe tobacco usually has some kind of flavor in it.

"This may sound odd but I also loved the smell of beefeater on the rocks with an olive."

No, I don't think that sounds odd at all because although I don't drink anything except wine, I LOVE the smell of other alcohol, such as, gin! I also love the smell of beer, even though I don't drink it.

"Vinegar... it makes me wonder how you feel about the smell of boiling eggs?"

The smell of boiling eggs doesn't bother me. Now the smell of rotten eggs does....peeeeeu!

Much thanks for stopping by, girl. Hope your weekend was awesome! I bet you went to the beach, hu?

  54. Hey there Dale!

    "and roasting coffee."

Yes, that's one smell that I should have placed on this list because it's also one of my favorites! There's nothing like it, is there? Even the SMELL wakes me up in the morning :)

Thanks for stopping by and have a super week!

  55. Hey there Val!

"i love lavender dryer sheets and the fragrance in general. i sniff like a dog too for that scent."

Meeeeeeeee too! Yet, it amazes me how many people don't care for the smell of lavender!?!

" i'm also a feeler. i love to touch and feel material. oh dear."

HA! Same here! I LOVE to touch and feel materials in general. This is why whenever I purchase clothing, I can't just order something online without first going into the store and touching it to see if I like the feel of it against my skin. I like my clothing to feel soft and weightless.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a super week!

  56. Hmm... you inhaled gasoline for years, eh? Well doesn't that explain A LOT!?! Haha

That's probably one of my least favorite smells. As with tobacco. Well, since I quit smoking years and years ago anyway.
I'm totally remembering the Colorform smell. Good one!

Just the other day, I was outside watering Ron's garden. I'm getting this wonderful whiff of ... couldn't really place it... just yummy goodness. I'm thinking.. there is no way it's the garden because it wasn't a veggie type smell. There were some candles in a tall stand nearby so I'm sniffing at them wondering if I bought them scented... that wasn't it. And then it finally hit me... my next door neighbor had her sheets hanging on the line to dry. She came out just a few minutes later and I told her how wonderful they smelled and that we were coming over for a sleepover! haha

My favorite scent is LILAC. It's my fav flower, memories of childhood. :) I also love lavender, patchouli, musk.... also, fresh baked things, scented candles, my grand darlings after a bath. :)

  57. "Hmm... you inhaled gasoline for years, eh? Well doesn't that explain A LOT!?! Haha"

HA! You said it, Mary! That's explains A LOT, doesn't it? My brain is FRIED!

". And then it finally hit me... my next door neighbor had her sheets hanging on the line to dry. She came out just a few minutes later and I told her how wonderful they smelled and that we were coming over for a sleepover! haha"

OMG...that is SO FUNNY! But it would have been like you, trying desperately to figure out WHERE that scent was coming from.

"I also love lavender, patchouli, musk....

Me too to all THREE! I know I've shared this before about so many people not liking the scent of patchouli, but I LOVE it because it's so earthy. I honestly think the scent of patchouli 'grounds' me.

Much thanks for stopping by, neighbor! Have a SUPER week!

  58. LOL I had to laugh-- I can't name one person I know that enjoys the smell of vinegar! Ewwww......

    Favorite smells?
Oh geeze......baking bread. OHMYgosh...I'd KILL for some freshly baked bread. I smell himself's bread all the time--it's the next best thing to actually eating it (and better on my body, trust me......)
Apples and cinnamon baking together. I'm not so keen on either of them separately--but put them together and I wanna snuggle in a warm blankie--I think it's a childhood memory, but I dunno.....
Himself (yes, I know that's corny......). But he smells GOOD all.the.time. OMG.....now I'm gonna go sniff the man. LOL Seriously, when we were doing the 5 years of long distance, I'd go home with his tee-shirt and sleep with it. LOL All the more reason for him/I to go across the ocean so I could get a new teeshirt. (k....I'm blushing!)
Fresh cut hay. I make himself stop the Jeep when I spot a farmer out cutting the hayfield. It's right up there with fresh cut grass.....only BIGGER and BETTER!

A smell I don't like? OVERkill perfumes/aftershaves.....OMG....I wanna attack 'em with a firehose and wash that **** off when they bathe in that stuff.
Gimme a sprinkle and keep me guessing, I say! What are the odds of THAT?! Pffffttttt!!!!!
Oh.....and eau de manure. Uh huh......when the farmers are out with their 'pooh flingers' I roll up the windows and keep on driving! *peeeee-ewwwwww!!

  59. My primary sense is tactile. I can't keep from touching things.

But I love smells, too. Fresh cut grass, hay, clover - so fresh smelling. Virtually any flower. Most plants smells in fact - even the sharp scent of marigolds. And dirt - I like the way dirt smells. Oh, and newly cut wood. I'm in heaven walking around a house being constructed. And the smell of the air at the ocean. I love lots of cooking smells, too - including vinegar!

I hate the smell of gasoline, though - gives me a headache. And cilantro is another smell I can't stand. Blech.

One last smell I love - a baby's sweet fuzzy head. They smell like cantaloupe and give me an intense craving to be pregnant again.

  60. "LOL I had to laugh-- I can't name one person I know that enjoys the smell of vinegar! Ewwww......"

Mel, thank you for saying that because I often think I'm like the ONLY person who hates the smell of vinegar.

    "Baking bread" OMG...to DIE for!

"Apples and cinnamon baking together." Yes, I agree! There is an Amish vendor at the Farmer's Market who sells freshly backed apple with cinnamon on them and they are out of this world!

"Himself (yes, I know that's corny......)."

No, I don't think that's corny at all because I was the same with my partner. I loved the smell of his worn shirts and would sometimes even sniff them hanging his closet!

"Oh.....and eau de manure. Uh huh......when the farmers are out with their 'pooh flingers' I roll up the windows and keep on driving! *peeeee-ewwwwww!!"

Bwahahahahaha! I am DYING laughing at that because I could immediately recall the smell of cow manure when you said that. peeeeee-ewwww is right!

Thanks SO MUCH for stopping by and sharing you likes and dislikes of smells. LOVED it!

  61. "My primary sense is tactile. I can't keep from touching things."

Yes, and can see why because that's probably my second favorite sense. I love to TOUCH things.

" And dirt - I like the way dirt smells."

Thank you! Meeeeee too! OMG...it's the best because it smells so beautifully damp and earthy.

"And cilantro is another smell I can't stand. Blech."

Agreed! Cilantro smells likes it's SCREAMING because it's such an intense and LOUD smell.

"One last smell I love - a baby's sweet fuzzy head. They smell like cantaloupe and give me an intense craving to be pregnant again."

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Okay, that was the best, and I mean the BEST description I have EVER heard. And agree. The smell of a baby is faaaaaaabulous!

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your smells, girl. LOVED your comment!

Jean, that's ADORABLE!!!!!! And I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who smells their food.

" I'm SO GLAD your least favorite smell is only vinegar. I was hesitant to keep scrolling! LOL!"

  64. Oh Ron, you & I are almost completely opposite! I hate the smell of freshly cut grass, the smell of gasoline & those plastic bags! I used to love the smell of a wood burning fireplace, fresh cut wood, pipe tobacco & dryer sheets. I do still love the smell of vinegar, unless it's the yucky malt vinegar my hubby uses on his fries! Because of my lung damage I now have to be sooooo careful about scents - I can no longer wear cologne of any kind & hubby puts his cologne in the vehicle because he can't even use aftershave in the apartment, so he puts it on when he gets in the vehicle to go to work. I could not spend any time near a wood burning fireplace at all anymore or anything else that might interfere with my breathing.

Yes, and I can completely understand that, Benze.

I know many people who are very sensitive and even allergic to fragrance or any kind of strong odor.

I will often have customers ask me, "How can you work around all this fragrance all day!?!"

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Hope you're feeling better.
