Don't ask me why, but over the weekend I decided to go searching online for photographs of men's fashion and was flabbergasted by some of the images I saw.

Granted, these are high fashion and way over the top, but I still found them perplexing.

So sit back and enjoy a men's catwalk...

#1) Men in strapless denim bustiers. Who knew there was such a thing?

#2) I can't even put into words what I think or feel about these except, WTF?!?!

#3) This looks like something out of an updated version of the movie, "Lawrence of Arabia 2014."

#4) Don't get me wrong, I see nothing weird about a man wearing pink at all. In fact, I love pink. But there is something a little off-kilter about the HUGE handbag and sneakers.

#5) Conan the Barbarian meet Eskimos. What freaks me out about these photos is not necessarily the fashion, but the look on their faces. The look pissed off.

#6) No comment.

#7) Is it just me or does this whole outfit look about FIVE sizes too small for his tall stature?

And I saved the best for last....

#8) This guy looks like he went out for a seafood dinner and his lobster jumped off the plate and tried to STRANGLE him. Either that or he's wearing a lobster bib.

No. Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer a man in a nicely tailored black suit any day!

Have a super model Monday, y'all!

  1. Jeepers Creepers! Bustiers ... for men? The guy in pink looks respectable compared to the others. How about that one with the shorts/frilly knickers/whatever name they've given that appalling outfit? It does nothing for his legs, that's for sure. In fact with legs like that he should be barred from modelling.

    I never did like lobster!!

Interesting, Ron, what more can I say? Now that you've made me feel a bit sick I shall go and lie down... lol.

  2. Bahahaha...your comments are on point, Ronnie! The photos of the men in traditional women's attire reminds me that I did an online survey recently that asked me a lot of questions about whether I'd wear this or that men's clothing article. At first, I thought maybe I had accidentally said I was a male at the beginning of the survey! I guess they are going to be marketing male fashions to females and vice versa

I do like the pink suit, but the big bag is over the top. Those tartan shifts in number six are god awful!!

  3. Holy Moly!!! I agree with you...what else to say, but WTF????? I never thought to search for Men's Fashion, but now I think I have to...what a weird bunch of stuff came up! I love your new design over here Ron!! I am just running around like a chicken with its head cut off and haven't had much time to visit blogs lately...so I am trying to play catch up! Happy Monday! xo Jeanne and the girls

  4. Thom Brown and his super skinny high-water pants - I don't know who wears them. What appears on the runway rarely appears in the shops or ateliers so I wonder why bother at all - except I suppose it can be considered (just barely) wearable art?

  5. Okay some of these I can look at and think..."well certainly not my style but I can understand that some have different tastes." However, #2?!? What the bloody hell?! There is NOTHING right about those! I am just scarred now!

  6. Ron, what a hysterical post to read on a Monday morning at work! I love your comments between each photograph. The one about the lobster made me laugh out loud!

The men's bustier's is just wrong. Why would man even wear that? I like the pink suit but the bag and sneakers would have to go. And I don't like the style of a man wearing a smaller, tighter sport coat and pants because they don't look like they fit.

I'm with you, give me a man in simple black or gray suit!

Fun post. Have a wonderful week, Ron x

  7. Good morning Valerie!

    "Bustiers ... for men?"

I know, could you just DIE? It looks so creepy to me.

"How about that one with the shorts/frilly knickers/whatever name they've given that appalling outfit? It does nothing for his legs, that's for sure. In fact with legs like that he should be barred from modelling."

Bwhahahahaha! OMG...that made me howl! Those two outfits look like something out of the Roman Empire/gladiator days.

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have a fantabulous week!

    X to you and Joe!

P.S. glad to see that your comment went through :)

  8. Ye gods, Ron, what a freak show!! Who in God's name would wear these outfits in public? It looks like Halloween has come early--and it can't leave fast enough!

"Conan the Barbarian meet Eskimo"--yes, and neither one will ever be the same.

And what is up with that freak and the lobster? It looks like the opening to a very bad horror movie--"The Lobster that Ate Good Taste!"

Thank for the laugh, buddy! These loony duds almost made me forget it was Monday!

  9. Hey there Bijoux!

"At first, I thought maybe I had accidentally said I was a male at the beginning of the survey! I guess they are going to be marketing male fashions to females and vice versa"

Ha! I think you're right! And it's weird because oddly enough I think a woman looks attractive and sexy in say, a tailored suit or something that is more masculine. However, when you put a man in something more feminine, like a BUSTIER, it just doesn't look right!?!

"Those tartan shifts in number six are god awful!!"

Those just made my eyes hurt because they don't even have any shape. They look potato sacks - HA!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a SUPER week!

Thank you. I decided to change my header for Fall. I think what I'm going to do is change the header every month to match the season. I love this new template because it's very basic, but allows me to change things whenever I want and make it look different.

  11. Hellooooooooooo Babs!!!!!

Welcome back! I hope you and Mo had a fabulous time on your honeymoon!

"The pink suit, I like, but would have put burgundy leather shoes with it and binned the bag!"

    Agree!

" I really struggle to understand what these fashion shows are all about. Nobody would actually wear any of these outfits..... would they?"

Perhaps some people would, but I think these fashion shows are more about a designer creating things and expressing themselves. Yet, I still find them perplexing.

"My jaw dropped open at the pic of the two outfits with black boots! I hope they're being paid an absolute fortune to parade in such clothes!"

    Aren't those UNBELIEVABLE!?!

" I quite like them, but hate short trousers, with a vengeance!"

OMG...me too! They look like they shrunk in the laundry.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a lovely week!

Yes Grace, you're absolutely right...he is notorious for those super-skinny high-water pants. And OMG...I can't stand them.

"What appears on the runway rarely appears in the shops or ateliers so I wonder why bother at all - except I suppose it can be considered (just barely) wearable art?"

I agree. I think these runway shows are more for a designer to create things artsy - high couture.

  14. Hola Denise!

The one of the lobster just blew me away! I looks more like a Halloween costume than something you would actually wear.

The one of the bustiers is just bizarre to me!?!?

"And I don't like the style of a man wearing a smaller, tighter sport coat and pants because they don't look like they fit."

THANK YOU! And they look uncomfortable.

    Rob, I TOTALLY agree!

I realize that these runway shows are a way for a designer to express themselves artistically, however, I still find these fashions perplexing because they look more like COSTUMES than ready-to-wear.

"And what is up with that freak and the lobster? It looks like the opening to a very bad horror movie--"The Lobster that Ate Good Taste!"

  16. "This guy looks like he went out for a seafood dinner and his lobster jumped off the plate and tried to STRANGLE him. Either that or he's wearing a lobster bib. ROFLMAO! That's precisely what it looks like, Ron.

I am by no means fashion conscious, but these are ridiculous. #2 is god awful. #6 is WTF. Who would wear these? And why?

Great post, dude. You never fail to amuse me.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ron, you crack me up!! What are designers thinking by trying to outfit men in such bizarre 'fashions"??

The "lobster bib" truly is a hoot -- I'd have a really hard time keeping a straight face if I was out somewhere and saw a guy wearing one! And yes, that poor soul wearing the too-tiny suit looks ridiculous -- like he outgrew it and couldn't afford to replace it so he simply s-q-u-e-e-z-e-d himself into it. And I'm right there with ya -- I love a pink shirt or a pink tie, but a man dressed head to toe in shimmering pink feels wrong.

You are SO RIGHT, my friend -- a well-tailored, good-fitting, classic black suit makes any man look 100% better!

Thanks for my chuckle of the day!!

  18. The Catwalk, male or female, seriously I don't know whether to laugh or cry!

  19. What a ridiculous bunch of outfits. Especially the lobster "bib."

Obviously, a crab would look much more chic.

I gotta say though, Tara is hooked on Project Runway, and some of these models would feel right at home on that show.

    Have a mantastic Monday!

  20. Love your commentary, Ron! Have you ever seen Project Runway? Some of these reminded me of the fashion styles seen on that show.

"This looks like something out of an updated version of the movie, "Lawrence of Arabia 2014." Lol. Yes it does!

I work with a guy who wears clothing similar to the one in #7 and it looks way too small for his body. His arm cuffs and pant legs are about three inches too short. It doesn't even look comfortable because it looks to tight.

Your take on the lobster bib is hilarious!

  22. Helloooooo there Debbie!

"What are designers thinking by trying to outfit men in such bizarre 'fashions"??"

God only knows. I think these type of fashion shows are an expression of a designers creativity, outside of them designing more commercial clothing.

" And yes, that poor soul wearing the too-tiny suit looks ridiculous -- like he outgrew it and couldn't afford to replace it so he simply s-q-u-e-e-z-e-d himself into it."

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Exactly! And the funny thing about it is that I actually see men on the street wearing that clothing.

"And I'm right there with ya -- I love a pink shirt or a pink tie, but a man dressed head to toe in shimmering pink feels wrong."

That suit looks like it's made out of silk and I'm just not a big silk-person (on a man) because it's too shinny.

I have to say though, I really do enjoy Project Runway. And not for the fashion, but for show itself and waiting with bated breath to see who wins.

Yes, I have seen Project Runway and love the show! In fact several years ago, I rented all the previous seasons and watched them for almost a month. I'm not really into the fashion, but I like the show because I get so excited to see who will be the winner!

"I work with a guy who wears clothing similar to the one in #7 and it looks way too small for his body. His arm cuffs and pant legs are about three inches too short. It doesn't even look comfortable because it looks too tight."

  27. WTF....'scuse the language, but WTF?! Since when is it a crime for a fella to look healthy, happy and comfortable in his own skin. Do any of these dudes look any of the aforementioned?! Seriously, I'd be pissed off if I had to put myself in any of those. And why do they all look anorexic? I mean, the lobster looks like he has more meat to him.... Where DO you find this stuff? (I only ask cuz I don't wanna land there. LOL)

"Since when is it a crime for a fella to look healthy, happy and comfortable in his own skin. Do any of these dudes look any of the aforementioned?!"

In most of the runway shows I've seen the models seem to have that kinda 'blank' (or neutral) look on their faces. Almost as if they're not supposed to have any expression that might distract from the clothing. VERY rarely have I ever seen runway models actual smile.

"Where DO you find this stuff? (I only ask cuz I don't wanna land there. LOL) Ewww."

Most of these are just plain weird and ugly. I guess designers keep trying to up the ante to keep things edgy and interesting. But would someone actually dress like this in real life???? I thought our main street here in small town BC had some weird outfits but this takes the cake. ;-)

Hope you're having a super duper week Ron. Hugs, G

I like the pink suit as well because I love the color pink, but the handbag NOT. And I'm not too keen on the pink sneakers. I can so see the suit with dark burgundy shoes though.

"I guess designers keep trying to up the ante to keep things edgy and interesting. But would someone actually dress like this in real life????"

I agree! I think these runway shows are more about a designer letting loose and being creative. But I can't see these designs being worn for everyday life. But hey, maybe some people do.

I love a good tailored suit like you showed at the end. I even don't mind a bit of a tight pant if they are being more "modern"... but I draw the line at lobsters. Well... unless the lobster is cooked and on my plate. Heyyyyyy.... they should have had the claws at the nipples... now THAT would have been a fashion statement!

No, I don't either, as long as the pant leg doesn't look so short, like the one pictured, because it just looks (to me anyway) that it's the wrong size.

"Heyyyyyy.... they should have had the claws at the nipples... now THAT would have been a fashion statement!"

  44. Omg, Ron, it's Zoolander on steroids! Loved it! Derelicte!
Fashion is so different than everyday wear. I truly believe many young men are expressing themselves creatively and imaginatively, especially if they're not working in a 9-5 office setting. I bet many of these ideas came from young men already wearing some of these looks, like the "Lawrence of Arabia." I can see a Rastafarian influence.
I don't know if you remember, Ron, when shirts, shirts mind you, in pink, purple, pastel colors were not worn. When I bought my ex-husband his first purple shirt in the 70's, he looked at it funny, but I thought it was such a refreshing change from sanitation white. Now, they're the norm. When I think of men in their tights and powdered wigs to the 60's and bell bottoms, who knows. Yes, some looks are just downright ridiculous and impractical, but in the end, the creative spirit cannot be contained! Whew, I'm stepping down from my soap box, now Ron... ;))
p.s. Love that pink suit. I might get it for myself! :))

And thank you because you made some very good points here...

"I bet many of these ideas came from young men already wearing some of these looks, like the "Lawrence of Arabia." I can see a Rastafarian influence."

True, fashion will often repeat itself by using the influence from the past. And it's the same thing with hairstyles and makeup styles.

"Yes, some looks are just downright ridiculous and impractical, but in the end, the creative spirit cannot be contained!"

    You're right.

I think most of these high-fashion runway shows are more about a designer expressing their creativity in a grand way and not so much about designing for everyday wear.
