Post updates by email:

For those of you who have been reading my blog for some time now, know of my dislike for PEEPS.

I don’t like Peeps for two reasons:

1. I don’t like marshmallow. And especially marshmallow coated with sugar. GROSS!
2. And I don’t like that suddenly all the holidays have a Peep associated with them, when in fact, Peeps are baby chicks. They’re not bunnies; they’re not Halloween ghosts or pumpkins; they’re not Thanksgiving Day turkeys; they’re not Christmas trees or Santa’s.

A Peep is a baby chick and should remain a baby chick.

Last Saturday night I walked over to Walgreens because I needed a couple of things (laundry detergent, hand cream, and shaving razors). And for some reason, I decided to take my camera along because my intuition told me, “Ron, take your camera because you're going to be inspired for another blog post.”

The Walgreens I shop in is HUGE and has three floors. The third floor was where I needed to go because all the items I wanted to purchase were located there.

And as I strolled through the seasonal section on the third floor, I began to feel as though I had entered the Peep Twilight Zone and was about to experience my greatest nightmare because everywhere I looked there were friggin' PEEPS.

Here, take a look…

No sooner had I stepped off the escalator and turned around, I saw Peeps mixed in with the Halloween stuff. And what's with the Mickey Mouse Trick-or-Treat Pumpkin candy carrier? Since when did pumpkins grow Mickey Mouse ears?

Fuzzy bunny Peep pillows.

Peep ghosts and more bunny and chick pillows.

Peep pumpkins and boxes of individually wrapped Peep chicks.

A Peep coloring case. Tell me something, why would anyone want to PAINT a Peep when it's something you EAT?

Peep sun visor hats.

Peep luggage tags and key rings.

*Please note: it was about this time when I began pulling my hair out and screaming throughout Walgreens, "NO...NO...STOP WITH THE PEEPS. I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!!"

Peep stickers.

I've decided that when I die, this is the shirt I want to be cremated in.

And as an added bonus to this post, I would like to share something I saw as I turned to walk down one of the aisles. Look real close at what's happening here...

Do you see what I see? And no, I swear that I didn't position the bears this way, someone else did. But judging from the smile on that brown bears' face, it looks like he/she is enjoying it...

Happy Monday, y'all!

  1. Still giggling! I reckon someone else was fed-up enough to rearrange the teddies as a means of lifting the hitherto acquired depression over the PEEPS. Yes? After looking at all your pictures I can well understand your dislike of Peeps, especially since they have apparently been changed to teddies instead of chicks. Is nothing is sacred?

Er, excuse me for being pernickity, but could you be more precise about the shirt you want to be cremated in... pink or blue? whaaaaaaaaaaa!

Hope you have a good week... keep that smile on your face.

  2. I'm with ya on the Peeps. Bleh! My daughter loves them. So I have bought them for her. Never anything other than the marshmallow ones though.
The bears... love it. Haha! There's a party going on in that store. No wonder they hibernate all winter, they are freaking exhausted after their Fall activities.

Makes me want to call my hubby right now and tell him to come back home!! LOL!

  3. "But judging from the smile on that brown bears' face, it looks like he/she is enjoying it..." ROFLMAO! How the hell do you come up with this stuff? Ron, you really need to have your own reality TV show where you narrate places that you've visited, while being followed by a camera man.

The whole Peep thing has gotten way out of hand because there are Peeps made in the shape of everything. Talk about overkill commercialism!

    Not a marshmallow person myself.

    Hilarious post, dude!

  4. Oh Ronnie this was just the laugh I needed to start a Monday! The thing with peeps is I want to like them I really do. But after I eat even one my stomach is not too happy with me. This post made me remember a candy you really do like though. Candy Corn. Have you seen the latest Candy Corn candy? I absolutely have to share it with you!

    Take a look:

I saw that last time I was at CVS and instantly thought of you!

  5. Ron, I am laughing so hard right now that I'm sure you can hear me in Philly. And I shared this post with one of my coworkers and she laughed too! Oh my gawd, the photograph of the bears is hysterical!

I don't like Peeps either, they're the most disgusting candy ever made. Between the marshmallow and granulated sugar they're too sweet. And you can taste the food-coloring dye.

Thanks for the laughs this morning. Have a wonderful week, Ron x

  6. Good morning Valerie!

"I reckon someone else was fed-up enough to rearrange the teddies as a means of lifting the hitherto acquired depression over the PEEPS. Yes?"

HAHAHAHAHA! I bet you're right! When I first spotted the teddies, it didn't dawn on me right away what they were doing. But then I thought, OMG!!! So I grabbed my camera and took about five photographs. And god only knows what the other customers thought when they saw me taking pictures of the bears!?!

"Er, excuse me for being pernickity, but could you be more precise about the shirt you want to be cremated in... pink or blue? whaaaaaaaaaaa!"

Bwhahahahahahah! Sorry about that, I should have been more specific. I think I'll choose the PINK one!

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have fantabulous week!

  7. Hey there Bijoux!

"Ron! Ok, maybe that bear just fell over?!?"

That's what I thought at first too. However, getting a closer look, I could see they were strategically positioned - HA!

" I'm cracking up, just imagining being there with you and seeing that........I would have been like, "Hurry up and take the picture before someone comes by and straightens that floozy bear back up!"

Bwhahahahhaha! OMG, I wish you would have been there with me, that would have been hilarious!

"Good god, once I took a bite of a purple one and the dye they must use tasted like poison!"

Yes, the dye is disgusting because you can taste it. And I've often wondered if it's more than just food-coloring because it taste like a chemical.

"I'm trying to figure out why they are selling bunny pillows, etc. at Halloween? Who is buying this crap?"

Yes, that made no sense to me either. Why bunny pillows on Halloween!?!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a grrrrrrrrreat week!

"The bears... love it. Haha! There's a party going on in that store. No wonder they hibernate all winter, they are freaking exhausted after their Fall activities."

    Bwhahahahahaha! OMG...that was BRILLIANT!

"The whole Peep thing has gotten way out of hand because there are Peeps made in the shape of everything. Talk about overkill commercialism!"

Yes, it's gotten waaaaaaay out of hand. When I was a kid, a Peep was a baby chick and they were only sold during the spring; at Easter. Now, suddenly you see them in the shape of everything!

"The thing with peeps is I want to like them I really do. But after I eat even one my stomach is not too happy with me."

Yes. And I can't even stand how they feel and taste in my mouth. They only way I could eat them as a kid was after I placed them in the refrigerator and they got hard.

"This post made me remember a candy you really do like though. Candy Corn. Have you seen the latest Candy Corn candy? I absolutely have to share it with you!"

OMG, no, I hadn't see the latest Candy Corn candy, so THANKS for sharing the link! I wonder if they come in dark chocolate because I'm not a fan of white chocolate. I bet they would taste faaaaaaabulous!

  11. Hola Denise!

It's funny, because when I first saw the bears it didn't immediately dawn on me what they were doing. However, after a closer look, I could SEE what they were doing - HA!

"Between the marshmallow and granulated sugar they're too sweet. And you can taste the food-coloring dye."

Yes, you can definitely taste the food-coloring. But I find that odd because food-coloring doesn't have a taste. To me it tastes like a chemical of some kind.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Happy Monday and a great week!

  12. Hey, Ron, Peeps are people, too! Well, no, they're not actually, They're creepy and disgusting and I hate them as much as you do!

I had no idea that they had their own product line, but after seeing your photos I'm inspired to crank out a low budget horror movie--"Night of the Awful Peeps!" Or "The Peeps Who Ate Philadelphia!"

And speaking of eating, what's up with those teddy bears? Those teddy bears were really having a picnic--and they went right to the dessert!

Since you're my friend, I'll take you at your word that you had nothing to do with that little arrangement. But I have my suspicions....

Great post! I love how you find inspiration in everyday things. Have a great week, buddy, and beware of the perverted teddies! (Hmm, that could be a movie, too...)

Don't ya just LOVE Fall? And I'm savoring every minute of it :)

Isn't the rock pond at the Barnes faaaaaabulous? During the winter they drain it and it still looks beautiful with the snow covering the rocks.

    Have a WONDERFUL week too!

  14. Who knew? I've never seen anything like that but then I have never looked (Walgreen's isn't a big player around here). None of this stuff is available in my local grocery in the seasonal junk aisle. Every year at Easter I buy a box of Peeps and every year I wonder why because they are tasteless. But there is one fun thing to do with Peeps - every year The Washington Post (my local newspaper) sponsors a Peeps Diorama contest - Check it out HERE.

Now see, that's a GREAT way to enjoy a Peep. However, eating them is another thing :(

"Every year at Easter I buy a box of Peeps and every year I wonder why because they are tasteless."

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wow that is an overload of Peeps! Marshmallows are definitely not my choice of a treat! I suppose it's good for them that they managed to turn the baby chicks into something for Halloween but the Peep hats? Luggage tags? hahaha why!?

That last photo made me laugh especially when you DO see a smile!

"That last photo made me laugh especially when you DO see a smile!"

I have a Walgreens by my house and it floors me, not only about the Peep merchandise overkill, but have you noticed that the CHRISTMAS merchandise is out already? I was there last week with a friend and he and I were both so surprised to see that they hardly had any Halloween stuff left, yet the shelves were full of Christmas decorations, wrapping paper, and small Christmas trees?!

I've never eaten a Peep in my life and don't ever want to. They look way too sweet.

  24. Hey ho Robert!

HA! I added the speech bubble to that photograph last night, right before I published this post. I just couldn't resist :)

OMG...yes!!!!! I noticed the same thing last Saturday night and was blown away by all the Christmas merchandise already on display. Waaaaaaaay too early! And they only had small section of Halloween merchandise, in fact, I had to hunt to even find it.

"I've never eaten a Peep in my life and don't ever want to. They look way too sweet."

You're not missing anything, trust me, because they ARE too sweet and just plain gross tasting. When I was a kid, the only way I could eat them was if they were hard or stale.

I must confess to being a hater of all things Peeps.
Fact is, I used to terrorize a friend of mine who loved Peeps. I'd impale 'em on pencils, hang 'em from shoe strings, run over 'em with bicycle tires ...and wrap 'em up for prezzies. LOL! True. 35. OMG, Ron. That's either Peep Heaven or Peep Hell, depending on your persuasion. I don't like Peeps either for exactly the same reasons you specify. However, I will tip my hat to Just Born, the makers of Peeps, for their marketing plan. They're obviously doing it right. I happen to live about 7 miles from the company in Bethlehem, PA. Believe it or not, the outside of the factory isn't all done up Peep. There's only a Peep mobile outside and they have parking lot barrier poles painted in pastel colors. Your Walgreens is far more obnoxious. I do occasionally attend the New Year's Eve festivities locally, where they drop a giant fiberglass Peep from a crane at midnight. It's quite fun. But I still wouldn't eat one if you held a gun to my head.

  36. OMG!!! You NEVER cease to make me laugh out loud Ron!!! You are SO FUNNY!! Now...about the Peeps...apparently we haven't been reading each other's blogs long enough...we have quite the relationship with Peeps!! My husband built me a little Peep Show!! It was specifically called, The Dixie Peeps! He built it out of little clay pieces...I will have to see if I can find the picture of it...it was for Easter one year!! We also have two of those little stuffed animal peeps that Chloe got on her first Easter. My husband is not a sweet eater. But, he does indulge in Peeps! Which, to me, is really weird...seeing as they are made of Sugar AND Marshmallow...both are things he doesn't each much of!! The man is WEIRD I tell you!! OMG, I am still laughing at those BEARS!!! 41. Hey there Jeanne!

Many years ago (before we met each other through our blogs), I shared a post around Easter time about my utter dislike for Peeps. And since then, the whole merchandising of Peeps has gone insane because now there are Peeps for every single holiday.

"My husband built me a little Peep Show!! It was specifically called, The Dixie Peeps! He built it out of little clay pieces..."

OMG, even though I may not like Peeps, that sounds SO CUTE!!!!!

"My husband is not a sweet eater. But, he does indulge in Peeps! Which, to me, is really weird...seeing as they are made of Sugar AND Marshmallow...both are things he doesn't each much of!!"

I think I read somewhere that they're made of marshmallow and gelatin and TONS of sugar. I like sweets, however, Peeps are just too, too sweet for me.

"! OMG, I am still laughing at those BEARS!!! Won't be able to get THAT image out of my head today!!"

  45. Ron, you totally crack me up! I'm not a big Peeps fan, but I've got to admit, I don't hate them near as much (or as hilariously!) as you do.

You're right on in your observation. I, too, have noticed Peeps suddenly popping up EVERYWHERE. I was in a Cracker Barrel not long ago, picking up dinner for Mom, when I saw an entire display of Peeps ghosties, witches, and the like. Golly, wasn't it bad enough seeing those nasty-tasting things at Easter?!

I can't see myself (or anybody SANE!) wearing a Peeps shirt or visor, carrying a Peeps key chain, using a Peeps luggage tag. I suppose kids would like the stickers and the colors. But those Peeps fuzzy pillows?? Oh, yeah, those are CUTE!

" I, too, have noticed Peeps suddenly popping up EVERYWHERE. I was in a Cracker Barrel not long ago, picking up dinner for Mom, when I saw an entire display of Peeps ghosties, witches, and the like. Golly, wasn't it bad enough seeing those nasty-tasting things at Easter?!"

My sentiments exactly. And to me (even though I don't like them) a Peep is a chick which is supposed to be part of Easter, not Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas.

" using a Peeps luggage tag."

OMG...that's what made go INSANE. Who in gods name would use a Peep luggage tag?!?!?

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear friend. Hope you're having a fantabulous week!

  49. OK Ron... guess who opened my email with your post at WORK. I laughed and thought the whole thing was hysterical... this was SO FUN to read. All the peeps pictures... I had no idea they were marketed that much! But then I got to the bear pictures and I think I snorted my brains out of my nose... and I was at WORK! One of those, "OH MY GOSH NO ONE CAN SEE THIS AND I AM ABOUT TO SNORT MY BRAINS OUT OF MY NOSE" moments where you sound like you are choking on a giant stuffed peep or something. This was the best post EVER. Especially the LAST picture AHAHAHHAHAHAH!!!!!

Oh... and you may not like peeps.... but I gotta tell you... you HAVE to try one grilled. I mean like outside, charcoal (not the matchlight stuff) GRILLED. They caramelize like on creme brulee and turn in to HEAVEN.

  50. Helloooooooo Katherine!

OMG, when I spotted those bears I laughed too! And god only knows what the other customers in the store thought, as I whipped out my camera and began taking photographs!! And I'm dying to know WHO positioned the bears that way?!

" but I gotta tell you... you HAVE to try one grilled. I mean like outside, charcoal (not the matchlight stuff) GRILLED. They caramelize like on creme brulee and turn in to HEAVEN."

I love the taste of creme brulee, so perhaps I WOULD like that! Thanks so much for letting me know about that!

Hope you're having a FANTABULOUS week, my friend. And MUCHO thanks for stopping by!

  51. I only find it a pain to have to type my name & email address, plus check to post as a guest every time I want to leave a comment for you. I tried having an account but it kept forgetting me & I had to keep logging in over & over to be able to comment on your blog alone because you're the only blogger I know of who uses Disqus.

  52. Ugggggghhhhhhh peeps! I guess kids must like peeps though if they are making peeps you can give away to kids in their Hallowe'en bags. I don't like marshmallow enough at the best of times to like anything like this. I only like marshmallow made into Rice Krispie squares. Thank goodness I live in an apartment building where they don't allow trick or treaters! I just couldn't face those little goblins anymore.
Somebody (the person who positioned those bears) has a dirty mind!

Yes Benze, that's why I so wish Disqus would bring back the feature of allowing guests to add their blog URL. I really don't like that they took that away :(

I think if try logging in with your account it may work again because that seemed to be happening only when Disqus was changing their interface last year. Several of my readers (who have accounts) have said that they're no longer having that problem.

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your feedback, my friend.

Yes, I think you're right, Benze. Obviously many people like Peeps if they're selling this stuff.

"Thank goodness I live in an apartment building where they don't allow trick or treaters! I just couldn't face those little goblins anymore."

Living in a city, I barely see trick or treaters anymore. I think most of the trick or treating is now done in shopping malls which is so sad because as a kid, I loved going to door to door in my neighborhood.

    HA! I think you're right!

  55. Ron -I have an update on CommentLuv. I received an email from a security plugin I use. It told me I had maleware in my CommentLuv files. So, I deleted five files and CommentLuv stopped working. That's the problem with it. You get a lot of spam messages. I might return to Disqus. I'm waiting to hear back from CommentLuv support. Will keep you posted.

  56. Hi Lauren!

"It told me I had maleware in my CommentLuv files. So, I deleted five files and CommentLuv stopped working."

OMG...sorry to hear that. Isn't it horrible how some people have nothing better to do than leave spam messages and spread maleware? Hope you get it sorted out.

Yes, keep me posted, my friend. And if you do return to Disqus, I think it's a good choice because they're really good about sifting out spam. In fact, yesterday I got 6 spam comments from someone on my most recent post and Disqus removed them before they were published. Yaaay Disqus!

    Have a great weekend!

For many years I suffered from intense back pain which sometimes could not move. I practiced judo for more than 8 years of my life and at the end, back pain took me to all kinds of physical activity. A year ago my pains have disappeared thanks to this all-natural treatment I found on internet which anyone can do at home. At least this treatment cured me completely. Hopefully it will be helpful for you as it happened with me. www.backpain-relief-4-life.com
