Today I would like to ask for your feedback on Disqus because every so often I will have several of my readers mention that they had problems leaving a comment. Things like: their comment not showing after they hit the publish button, or their comment was visible to them after they hit the publish button, yet when they came back to read my response they noticed that their comment had disappeared. I’ve also heard that Disqus didn’t recognize their email address; therefore they couldn’t leave a comment.
Now I have to say that outside of experiencing an occasional technical glitch, such as the comment box not loading properly on my blog due to something going haywire over at Disqus, I have never had a problem leaving comments on a blog that uses Disqus. Never. Yet it seems that some people do. And this puzzles me because I find Disqus very easy to leave a comment.
Perhaps it’s because I have an account set up on Disqus and use it on my blog, that it might be easier than for those who don’t because all my information is remembered whenever I log in to leave a comment.
For anyone out there who uses Disqus on your blog, I’m sure you would agree that it's awesome, especially if you’re on Blogger because it has a TON more features than Bloggers’ native commenting system. And I also know many bloggers who are on WordPress, yet still choose to use Disqus on their blogs.
There is one thing though that I wish Disqus would bring back. And that was the feature that allowed those who don't have an account set up with them and wish to log in and comment as a guest, to include their blog URL link. I really don't like that they took that feature away.
Personally, I love using Disqus because it instantly notifies you with comment notification and allows for a more conversational engagement. It also has many other great features and benefits. Is it without issues? No, of course not. But no commenting system is without issues. However, one of the many positive things about Disqus is that whenever a technical issue occurs, they correct it promptly.
Anyway, please feel free to share your feedback on Disqus and let me know if you experience specific problems so that I’m aware of it. And for those of you who use Disqus on your own blog, do your readers ever say that they have problems leaving comments? Because I'm curious to know.
For those of you who have had difficulties in the past leaving comments on my blog, I sincerely apologize and know that it is a concern of mine.
Thank you for your feedback everyone.
Have a super weekend!

Good morning, Ron. I shall be interested to hear the opinions of those who have problems... or maybe I am the only one. I tried to join Disqus once but for some reason my email was not recognised. And that was BEFORE I changed it.... lol. I shall continue to copy/paste for a while - just while my confidence is low....whaaaaaaa
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE Disqus Ron and I thank you for pointing me in that direction!! I do have a few people who have mentioned that they have had trouble commenting...but I believe they are NOT members of Disqus. Not quite sure why people wouldn't want to sign up, but personal preference I guess. I love that I can have real conversations with people on it!! Happy Friday Ron...hope you have a big weekend planned for photography...we are running out of days to take colorful shots!! xo Jeanne and the girls
ReplyDeletePS loved the Charlie Brown video
ReplyDeleteIt seems to take forever to load on a daily basis. I've had problems off and on, leaving comments, but my main complaint is that I get signed out whenever I turn off my iPad or desktop. And when I try to sign back in, the disqus box is a quarter of an inch big, so I can't see what I'm typing. Just annoying!
ReplyDeleteHave a great Fall weekend, Ron!
Ron, I haven't ever had problems leaving a comment on your blog. I'm not signed up for an account because I don't have a blog, I just sign in using my name and email address. I read quite a few blogs that use Disqus so I'm use to doing that.
ReplyDeleteHope this helps. Thank you for asking for our feedback.
Have a wonderful weekend, Ron x
As you know I do not use Disqus for my blog. I actually only have an account so I can comment on your wonderful blog. That being said, it was super easy to set up an account and really other than using the wrong web browser I do not see many problems with it.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Valerie!
ReplyDeleteNo, you're not the only one because as you will read in comments, others have had problems as well. And I've also had readers email me with problems leaving comments.
"I tried to join Disqus once but for some reason my email was not recognised. And that was BEFORE I changed it.... lol."
Yes, that's another thing some of my readers have said, it doesn't recognized their email address.
"I shall continue to copy/paste for a while - just while my confidence is low....whaaaaaaa"
(((((((((( You )))))))))
Thank you so much for your patience. I've been debating on whether or not to go back to using Bloggers commenting format, however as we all know, that is not without issues as well. In fact, last night I left a comment on someone's Blogger blog and my comment disappeared, so I had to type it in again.
Again, thank you for bringing this to my attention and for your patience.
Have a super weekend, dear lady.
X to you and Joe!
Hey there Jeanne!
ReplyDelete"I do have a few people who have mentioned that they have had trouble commenting...but I believe they are NOT members of Disqus. Not quite sure why people wouldn't want to sign up, but personal preference I guess."
Yes, same thing on my blog, and I believe they are not members of Disqus. It seems that more and more people who have blogs are using Disqus, so I would think it would be an advantage to sign up for an account. But as you said, personal preference I guess.
" I love that I can have real conversations with people on it!!"
Me too!
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your feedback, my friend. Have a fantastic weekend!
X to you and the girlz!
P.S. I have off tomorrow, so I will mostly like head outside and snapped more photographs.
Don't you just LOVE Charlie Brown?
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed :)

Hey there Bijoux!
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes the box takes a while to load for me as well, but for the most part, it loads fast.
"I've had problems off and on, leaving comments, but my main complaint is that I get signed out whenever I turn off my iPad or desktop. And when I try to sign back in, the disqus box is a quarter of an inch big, so I can't see what I'm typing. Just annoying!"
Thank you so much for sharing your feedback because I have no idea what specific problems my readers are having. And thank you for your patience for taking the time to leave a comment, even though it is annoying. I've been debating on whether to go back to using Bloggers' native commenting system, however, I'm not thrilled with that system either because I've had many issues leaving comments and have several of my readers say the same thing.
Have a GREAT fall weekend, my friend!

Hola Denise!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your feedback. And I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any problems. I'm trying to get a gauge on how many of my readers are having problems, so that I can decide what to do.
Yes, your feedback helped :)
Have a wonderful weekend, girl!

Hey there Shae!
ReplyDelete"That being said, it was super easy to set up an account and really other than using the wrong web browser I do not see many problems with it."
Yes, Disqus is very touchy about what browser someone is using. I find that it works best with Chrome. Yet it works HORRIBLE with Internet Explorer.
Glad to hear that you've not had any problems leaving a comment. And thanks for your feedback, my friend!
Have a SUPER weekend!

In the past Disqus has been a pain in the butt. However, lately it has kept my info and made commenting much easier. I like it much better than the blogger format where you have to copy letters and numbers to prove you aren't a spammer. So far, I find wordpress the easiest to comment...but it might be because my blog is wordpress.
ReplyDeleteVery rarely do I ever have a problem leaving a comment on your blog, Ron. Sometimes the comment box doesn't load right away, but that's okay because I just come back later and leave a comment. But I noticed that it only happens when I'm using a mobile device, not when I'm at home and on my desktop.
ReplyDeleteHave a rockin' weekend, dude!
Hey. Ron, thanks for giving us a chance to sound off on this topic.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a problem with Disqus, other than forgetting my password and constantly signing in as a guest. But my comments have always appeared on your blog with no problem.
Have a great weekend, buddy! Now it's time for me to do my Charley Brown dance!

"In the past Disqus has been a pain in the butt. However, lately it has kept my info and made commenting much easier."
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that, Suzi.
"I like it much better than the blogger format where you have to copy letters and numbers to prove you aren't a spammer."
I TOTALLY agree. I've never used the spam filter on my blog when I was still using Bloggers' commenting format, but I still think it's a pain in many ways because I've had issues leaving comments on Blogger blogs, like my comments disappearing.
"So far, I find wordpress the easiest to comment...but it might be because my blog is wordpress."
Yes, hands down, WordPress is the easiest.
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your feedback, my friend.
Have a super weekend!

I switched over to Disqus because of my experince with it here on your blog - I liked the way you were able to answer comments and have the response sent to my email. I know Blogger has a way to answer by email, but then those answers aren't also posted on the blog. A very few of my readers have complained bitterly, but it's always been people who have trouble remembering their password. Which seems silly because you can use a short, easy to remember word if you want. I find it an easy system to use. And I've had comments disappear on both blogger blogs and word press blogs, so I think there is NO system that doesn't have quirky moments.
ReplyDeleteAnd also... I like that I don't have to be signed into my blog email account to leave a disqus comment or reply to one.
ReplyDeleteI use it on mine and don't have any reason to turn it off, but maybe after reading what people tell you! ;D. I know some folks have had problems adding comments if their browsers are out of date. I have them upgrade and they are usually able to comment after that.
ReplyDeleteI've never had any problems commenting with Disqus, but didn't like that I had to create an account before I could comment. Just another pesky step and password to remember. But once it was set up, it's been smooth so far. Since I'm on wordpress.com, I haven't noticed any issues with their build-in comment platform.....yet. :-) Hope you have an awesome Autumn weekend!
ReplyDeleteI've used Disqus for years because I like that it allows a dialogue. Yes, sometimes it is wonky but they've been good about fixing problems quickly. Blogger now has a comment feature that allows a reply directly to the commenter (comment format should be set to 'embedded') but I think a lot of blogger users either don't know about it or don;t want to use it...I remember the bad old days, before Disqus, when to reply to a comment you had to put all your replies in one comment box and scroll up and down to re-read the comments and on and on - a total PITA. And now a lot of folks reply by email and us readers don't get to read the replies - I like to read the replies - but, you know, a matter of personal preference. For me the exchange between writer and reader is the main reason I have a blog to begin with.
ReplyDeleteRon, you've mentioned problems with Disqus before, haven't you (or did I read about that on someone else's blog??).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'm sorry to hear you're having these issues. At first, I, too, was confused on the proper method for leaving comments via Disqus here, but as long as I post as a "guest," it seems to be working for me. I'm not happy that it won't link back to my blog's home, but you've been mighty gracious in the past with making that info readily available, so there is that!
I'll be interested in reading about these challenges. Since I blog over at WordPress, I haven't come across any troubles with folks leaving comments (other than the few who try commenting under a different account and are waylaid to my dashboard!)
Happy weekend -- enjoy the cool spell of Fall!
I've never had a problem leaving comments, but if I click on a blogger's name here - such as Bijoux - instead of being directed to her blog, a new window pops open with...your post. I've never understood that. It does make it harder to find new bloggers to read when Disqus doesn't direct you to their sites. Other than that, I like the convenience of being able to sign in under your Facebook or other account.
ReplyDeleteHave a groovy weekend, Ron!
Hi Ron,
ReplyDeleteDisqus and I have had relationship issues. After I upgraded to WordPress and imported Disqus into the dashboard, I lost many older comments.
During the early days of my WordPress experience, I vaguely remember people having problems commenting. Also, I found that my blog loaded very slowly with Disqus. So, I switched to CommentLuv, which shows a reader's latest post when they comment at my site and vice versa. That's a plus.
I do miss the ability to have a conversation right in email that is, or was, available in Disqus. With CommentLuv, you have to return to my site to comment.
Hiya Matt!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you rarely have a problem leaving a comment.
" But I noticed that it only happens when I'm using a mobile device, not when I'm at home and on my desktop."
Yes, and I've heard that before from other people. I think Disqus may have issues sometimes with leaving a comment using a mobile device. However, I do have the Disqus code set up in my blog template so that it will be 'mobile friendly.'
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your feedback, buddy. Appreciate it!
Have a most excellent weekend!

Hey there Rob!
ReplyDeleteYou are so welcome. I think it's important to ask for feedback when it comes to technical things on a blog so that your readers have an easy time reading it and leaving comments.
"I've never had a problem with Disqus, other than forgetting my password and constantly signing in as a guest. But my comments have always appeared on your blog with no problem."
For me, my browser always remembers my password whenever I leave a comment, so I'm surprised it doesn't do the same for you. One of the great things about logging in with your account info is that also includes your blog URL, so that other readers can visit your blog if they wish.
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing the link to the CHARLIE BROWN dance! LOVE that song!!!!!!!!
Have a fantabulous weekend, buddy!

"I switched over to Disqus because of my experince with it here on your blog - I liked the way you were able to answer comments and have the response sent to my email."
ReplyDeleteDon't you just LOVE that feature? That's one of the main reasons why I use Disqus. And yes, Blogger also has a way to answer by email, but I've never used it. I think you have to set up something in our "settings" tab to do that.
" A very few of my readers have complained bitterly, but it's always been people who have trouble remembering their password. Which seems silly because you can use a short, easy to remember word if you want."
For me, I never have to remember my password to leave a comment because my browser always remembers it, so that all I have to do it click on the "D" and it automatically opens with all my login info.
"And I've had comments disappear on both blogger blogs and word press blogs, so I think there is NO system that doesn't have quirky moments."
I agree.
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your feedback, my friend. Really appreciate it. Have a terrific weekend!

Hello there Katherine!
ReplyDelete"I know some folks have had problems adding comments if their browsers are out of date. I have them upgrade and they are usually able to comment after that."
Yes, if their browsers are out of date, Disqus does have problems. I use Chrome and find that Disqus really works well with it. Internet Explorer only works if it's the latest update. But I don't use IE anymore anyway. It's one of the worst browsers.
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your feedback, my friend. Appreciate it! And you're a perfect example of someone who is on WordPress and still chooses to use Disqus.
Have a super weekend!

Helloooooooo there Lisa!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you've not experienced any issues leaving a comment using Disqus :)
And yes, I know it's a bit of a pain to first sign up for an account, but I find that more and more bloggers are using Disqus on their blogs, so I think it's an advantage to have an account set up.
" Since I'm on wordpress.com, I haven't noticed any issues with their build-in comment platform.....yet. :-)"
Occasionally I will have a problem leaving a comment on WP where it doesn't recognize my email address and then my comment disappears and goes into spam. But other than that, I think WP's commenting system is the BEST!
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your feedback. Appreciate that :)

Hey there Grace!
ReplyDelete"I've used Disqus for years because I like that it allows a dialogue."
That's why I mainly use it as well.
"Blogger now has a comment feature that allows a reply directly to the commenter (comment format should be set to 'embedded') but I think a lot of blogger users either don't know about it or don;t want to use it..."
Yes, before I used Disqus, I had my comments set to "embedded" so that I could use the "comment thread" feature. However, even that didn't seem to work well. Yet, that was back when they first started it, so perhaps it works better now.
"..I remember the bad old days, before Disqus, when to reply to a comment you had to put all your replies in one comment box and scroll up and down to re-read the comments and on and on - a total PITA."
OMG...wasn't that the WORST?!?! It was such a pain in the ass.
"Oh yeah, and Disqus allows you to go back and make corrections to a comment. For that alone Disqus rocks. (Just like I edited this comment after publishing it so I could add this thought.)"
AMEN! That's another thing I LOVE about Disqus...comment editing. Because I often make TYPOS when leaving a comment and then go back and correct them.
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Hope you had a faaaaabulous birthday!

Hellooooooo there Debbie!
ReplyDeleteYes, I may have mentioned problems with Disqus before on my blog. However, I wanted to share a complete post so that my readers could share their honest feedback in case they were having issues, so that I would be aware of it.
" I'm not happy that it won't link back to my blog's home, but you've been mighty gracious in the past with making that info readily available, so there is that!"
I really don't like that Disqus no longer makes that feature available. It's the pits. The only way you can leave your blog link is if you sign up for an account so that your blog URL is linked to your name. But please feel free to leave your blog URL in your comment whenever you wish so that my other readers can visit your blog.
"Since I blog over at WordPress, I haven't come across any troubles with folks leaving comments (other than the few who try commenting under a different account and are waylaid to my dashboard!)"
I very rarely have a problem leaving a comment on WP. Sometimes it doesn't recognize my email address and then my comment goes to spam. But hands-down, WP has an AWESOME commenting system.
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your feedback, my friend. Appreciate it.

ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that you haven't experienced any problems leaving a comment :)
"...but if I click on a blogger's name here - such as Bijoux - instead of being directed to her blog, a new window pops open with...your post. I've never understood that."
Yes, it doesn't directly take you to her blog, but if you click on her name, a box should open up where you will see her name, location, and blog URL. Just click on that URL and it should take you to her blog. It should also show her comment responses to any blog she has left a comment on using Disqus.
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your feedback, buddy. Appreciate that!
Have a GROOVY weekend!
X to you and Tara!
Hey there Lauren!
ReplyDelete"Disqus and I have had relationship issues. After I upgraded to WordPress and imported Disqus into the dashboard, I lost many older comments."
Yes, I've heard that before from other bloggers. I have my account set up so that all my comments are posted to both my Blogger dashboard and my Disqus dashboard, so that if I should ever decide to stop using Disqus or move to another blogging platform, my comments are all saved on Blogger.
"Also, I found that my blog loaded very slowly with Disqus. So, I switched to CommentLuv, which shows a reader's latest post when they comment at my site and vice versa. That's a plus."
Yes, I agree, Disqus does load slowly sometimes. But most of the time, for me anyway, it seems to load pretty fast. I use Chrome as my browser, and Disqus seems to work very well with it.
I know several bloggers, such as yourself, who use CommentLuv and I think that's an AWESOME feature!
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your feedback, my friend. I really appreciate it :)

Ron, I've never had a problem leaving comments on your blog or any blog that uses Disqus. But I have had problems leaving comments on blogs that use Bloggers commenting system. And I can't stand the blogs that use the Captcha feature because I can never see the numbers or words clearly.
ReplyDeleteSo as far as my feedback goes, I like that you use Disqus!
Hey ho Robert!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you like Disqus and have had no problems leaving a comment :) I shared this post because I've gotten several responses that Disqus was causes some problems and I sincerely don't want my readers to be inconvenienced when leaving a comment.
" And I can't stand the blogs that use the Captcha feature because I can never see the numbers or words clearly."
I don't like the Captcha feature as well, which is why I never used it on my blog when I used Bloggers' native commenting system.
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your feedback, buddy. Appreciate it!
Have a fabuloso weekend!

I don't have a problem with Disqus but occasionally it does say that it's loading slower than usual because it's busy and I should leave a comment later instead, which is not something I get with other commenting systems. Overall though, it seems pretty reliable.
ReplyDelete"but occasionally it does say that it's loading slower than usual because it's busy and I should leave a comment later instead, which is not something I get with other commenting systems."
ReplyDeleteYes Dale, I've heard others say the same thing; especially when using mobile devices and certain browsers. However, I'm glad to hear that overall it seems pretty reliable to you.
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your feedback. I appreciate that, buddy. Have a super weekend!

I did have a problem posting a comment here a couple of times but not recently, seems to be working fine.
ReplyDeleteI really like WordPress for the most part (the free version) except I noted today that they are providing a NEW and IMPROVED posting experience that is NOT an improvement. Hopefully, they'll leave the "classic" mode available for the foreseeable future. Who has time to learn new ways to do the same basic things? Not me! Windows 8 was bad enough LOL.
I'm so glad to see the Great Pumpkin on your sidebar, how I love Peanuts!!! That's such a cute one. I love Halloween too, almost as much as autumn.
Have a super duper week!!!
PS: I did post again at My Poetic Path today, as I had another techie ?? to ask about. ;-)
"I did have a problem posting a comment here a couple of times but not recently, seems to be working fine."
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that, Geraldine. Yes, I do remember you mentioning something in a few of your comments about having a problem posting a comment. For the past 5 months, Disqus seems to be working very smoothly. Let's hope it stays that way - HA!
"I really like WordPress for the most part (the free version) except I noted today that they are providing a NEW and IMPROVED posting experience that is NOT an improvement. Hopefully, they'll leave the "classic" mode available for the foreseeable future. Who has time to learn new ways to do the same basic things? Not me!"
I agree. I'm all for improvements, however, sometimes these blogging platforms are constantly changing things (such as it is on Blogger) and to me, they don't seem like improvements at all. Google is constantly changing things. I used to publish on WP and really enjoyed it, yet I know they've change A LOT over the past several years.
"I'm so glad to see the Great Pumpkin on your sidebar, how I love Peanuts!!! That's such a cute one. I love Halloween too, almost as much as autumn."
Don't ya just love Peanuts? I can't wait for their Thanksgiving and Christmas videos. I watch them every year!
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing you feedback. Have a fantastic time on your trip. In fact, I thought you already left.
Safe journey, my friend!

I've had problems with posts not appearing here, but really I have to wonder if it's "user error" given that I seem to be one out of the many. It wouldn't surprise me, even though I sorta consider myself pretty comfortable with online activities. Face it, user error happens! Yes, sometimes it's slow to load, sometimes it loses my post when I forget to log in first (that's only happened once, trust me...LOL). And oddly enough, sometimes it doesn't post your responses with the post. That has only happened once and it was on the Kindle. Maybe disqus has an issue with me? LOL. I like it lets me blabber on forever and isn't telling me I'm too wordy (I can be!) and I like that I can follow along with the conversations you're having with others, and I like that it mostly works on a consistent basis. Like any comment system, it's going to have its moments. When it does, I'd like that to be with Mark, please. ROFLMAO!!
ReplyDeleteOverall, I find it extremely user friendly, Ron. I think the time it posted before I completed my full thought was my own fault...I've done this in general, hitting the wrong key!
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Ron!
Hiya Mel!
ReplyDelete" And oddly enough, sometimes it doesn't post your responses with the post. That has only happened once and it was on the Kindle. Maybe disqus has an issue with me? LOL."
HA! No, it's not only an issue with you because others have shared the same thing. Disqus acts weird sometimes when it comes to using mobile devices.
"Yes, sometimes it's slow to load, sometimes it loses my post when I forget to log in first (that's only happened once, trust me...LOL)."
Yes, and that's happened with me too, Mel. If I don't log in first and then log in after I complete my comment, I will sometimes lose it.
" I like that I can follow along with the conversations you're having with others, and I like that it mostly works on a consistent basis."
Glad to hear that it MOSTLY works on a consistent basis with you. You're right, any comment system is going to have its moments.
" And I adore the clip AND the cute leafs on the header. We're on the countdown to Halloween!! Wooohooo....bring on the candy!!!! :-)"
Thank you, glad you like the new header and the Peanuts clip! Yup...countdown to HALLOWEEN!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your feedback, dear friend.

Ron, I've gotten to a point where I won't leave comments on blogs that use the Captcha feature because it's just too difficult.
ReplyDeleteThere are some bloggers I blog with who do use Captcha and I WILL leave comments because they use numbers and not letters. The numbers seem to be easier to decipher than the letters.
ReplyDelete
