This is going to be a posts that has two parts.
The first part is about my freezer that has to be defrosted every month (and sometimes twice a month in the summer) because I have one of those dwarf refrigerators in my studio apartment that is NON frost-free. Yes I know, it's 2015 and you're probably all wondering, "Why the hell does Ron still have one of those antiquated refrigerators??" Well, that's easy, because it's the only size refrigerator that will fit in this small apartment.
Anyway, yesterday I had a 911 freezer defrosting emergency because the ice had built up so thick, that I could no longer fit so much as a thin piece of loose leaf paper inside. I also needed to go grocery shopping and realized that unless I defrosted the freezer, I would have nowhere to put my frozen food. I'm usually quite efficient about defrosting my freezer every month, however, I've been so busy lately that I kept putting it off.
Here are two photographs of what the inside of the freezer looked like...
OMG...can you believe it?!?!
It looks like the size of the iceberg that sunk the RMS Titanic during its maiden voyage!
Needless to say, it took half the day to defrost this iceberg. I should have taken after pictures to show you what it looks like without all that ice.
----------------------------
The second part of this post is about the computer desk area in my apartment.
I read a lot of interior design and DIY blogs, which often share ideas about designing stylishly chic computer desk areas. And in as nice as they look (and they really do), they always appear as though they came out of a magazine because everything looks so perfectly perfect. I mean really, do people actually live like this? Well, obviously they do...
Now my computer desk area looks NOTHING like the ones above. Mine looks more like this...
Very non-chic and nothing fancy. But hey, it gets the job done.
Oh, and one more thing. I don't know if you're like me and have one drawer in your home where you just throw everything inside and it's one big MESS. Normally I'm a very neat and organized person, however, this is one place where I'm sloppy, careless, and don't give a shit.
My junk drawer...
But if you ever come to visit me and need a pair of reading glasses or crave a Starlight peppermint, you'll know where to find them.
Have a fabulously chic Monday, y'all!
X
Good morning, Ron. I soooo sympathise with you as I hate defrosting freezers. We had a chest freezer which was a P-A-I-N to defrost. Me being of small stature I could never clean right down to the bottom. Consequently, after many arguments, we went for an upright model that defrosts itself. We also have a couple of larder fridges that never need defrosting.
ReplyDeleteI have shown pictures of my workroom before. To others it looks like a jumble of stuff but to me it is pure heaven. I know exactly where everything is and since no-one else comes in I have the final say in everything. Anyway, who wants to have a room that looks as if no-one ever works in it? At least you and I are comfortable with what we have, even with squirrels in it...grins. You should see my desk.... it's HUGE.
Note about squirrels... I love them when they're NOT being distructive... it's just that they seem hell bent on breaking everything in sight. BTW, the chilli didn't work, so much for the expert's advice.
Happy Monday, and thanks for making me smile so early in the day - well, it was early when I started this!!!
LOL on trying to wedge a sheet of loose leaf paper in that freezer, Ron!!! I do not miss those days of defrosting an apartment fridge! But every month sounds ridiculous! Good grief!
ReplyDeleteOk, you won't believe this, but I like your desk area better. I don't care for their mid-century modern desk and chair set. Plus, I like the doors that hide stuff on your cart. Thanks for sharing some of your space with us!
"It looks like the size of the iceberg that sunk the RMS Titanic during its maiden voyage! LOL Ron, you are hilarious in your descriptions! I can't believe you have to defrost your freezer every month. Can't they upgrade you to a frost free model?
ReplyDeleteI read a lot of design blogs too and I know what you mean about everything looking perfect in the pictures. You should see my computer desk area at home, it looks like a bomb explored. I have papers and stuff everywhere. Your area is so nice and tidy. Even your junk drawer looks neater that mine. I like how you have mirrors on the wall. Love your squirrel collection. They're adorable!
By the way, I love Starlight peppermints!
Thanks for making me laugh this morning, Ron. Have a wonderful week x
Yes, Ron, I too have a junk drawer where I just throw stuff into and don't give a shit. It's a drawer in my kitchen that has garbage bag ties, pens, pencils, scissors, reading glasses, and lighters. It's a mess. Lol!
ReplyDeleteIn one of my New York apartments I had a freezer that needed defrosting too. And you're right, during the warmer summer months I had to defrost it more frequently. God, how I hated it!
I like your computer desk area. It's looks lived in but also clutter-free. Love your squirrel collection!
Have a nice Monday, Ron. Can you believe the rain and how cold it's gotten?
Hey, Ron, I like your non-chic set-up. It looks like an actual human being lives there. And I love the squirrel-amic figurines! That Flash Gordon refrigerator is another story, however.
ReplyDeletei remember when my mom used to defrost our old refrigerator. It was quite a chore.
And I'm impressed that you have only one junk drawer. I've got a junk apartment! I think it's time for some serious spring cleaning.
Have a great week, buddy, and protect the squirrels!
Good morning Valerie!
ReplyDelete"We had a chest freezer which was a P-A-I-N to defrost. Me being of small stature I could never clean right down to the bottom. Consequently, after many arguments, we went for an upright model that defrosts itself."
Isn't it a PAIN to have to defrost a freezer? I remember when I was a kid and my parents had one of the huge chest freezers in the basement and had to defrost it. My mother was so happy when they finally came out with frost-free freezers :)
"To others it looks like a jumble of stuff but to me it is pure heaven. I know exactly where everything is and since no-one else comes in I have the final say in everything. Anyway, who wants to have a room that looks as if no-one ever works in it?"
Amen! Some of these rooms that I see on design blogs look so perfect (not a pen out of place) that they don't look lived in.
"even with squirrels in it...grins."
HAHAHAHA! I knew you would mention the squirrels!!!
"... I love them when they're NOT being distructive... it's just that they seem hell bent on breaking everything in sight. BTW, the chilli didn't work, so much for the expert's advice."
I understand because I know many people who feel the same way about their sometimes destructiveness. They've very clever, aren't they?
Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have a lovely Monday!
X to you and Joe
"I do not miss those days of defrosting an apartment fridge! But every month sounds ridiculous! Good grief!"
ReplyDeleteYes, I have to defrost it once a month and sometimes twice a month during the summer months because with the heat and humidity, the frost builds up faster. OMG, and I hate doing it!
"Ok, you won't believe this, but I like your desk area better. I don't care for their mid-century modern desk and chair set. Plus, I like the doors that hide stuff on your cart."
Thank you. That TV cart contains my old cameras, electronic cords, old cassette tapes, and so much other stuff.
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a FAB Monday and week!

Hey there Elaine!
ReplyDelete"It's a drawer in my kitchen that has garbage bag ties, pens, pencils, scissors, reading glasses, and lighters. It's a mess. Lol!"
Yup, sounds like a lot of the stuff I have in my junk drawer as well! I also have old drivers licenses, paycheck stubs, and train schedules!
"And you're right, during the warmer summer months I had to defrost it more frequently. God, how I hated it!"
Me too! Summer, with the heat and humidity, it seems to build up frost so much faster. UGH!
"Can you believe the rain and how cold it's gotten after such a warm weekend?"
OMG, I know. This weekend was stunning (80 degrees and sunny). Today it's raining and freezing!
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a super Monday and week!

I have a few junk drawers and one junk closet. I'm definitely due for some reorganizing. I once did a post about junk drawers. It's a fun topic.

Hey there Rob!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
"That Flash Gordon refrigerator is another story, however."
HAHAHHAHAHAHA! I know, isn't it archaic? I feel like I'm living in the Fred Flintstone age!
"And I'm impressed that you have only one junk drawer. I've got a junk apartment! I think it's time for some serious spring cleaning."
I think because I live in such a small space, I've gotten really good at keeping things (with the exception of my junk drawer) neat and organized. When you live in a small apartment you almost HAVE to do that because if not, things get so cluttered.
Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a SUPA week!

"yesterday I had a 911 freezer defrosting emergency because the ice had built up so thick, that I could no longer fit so much as a thin piece of loose leaf paper inside." ROFLMAO! Ron, you kill me with your commentary! But man, that is one BIG iceberg, I'll have to agree. One thing that I don't like doing is cleaning out the refrigerator. My girlfriend hates it too, so we take turns. Fridges can get so gross after a few months.
ReplyDeleteI like your computer desk area. It's normal looking. But is that your television on the right? It's looks small. We've got one of those big screen TV's.
I've got a junk drawer too. It's in my night stand. And VERY junky!
As always, thank you for the entertainment, dude!
Hey there Arlee!
ReplyDelete"I once did a post about junk drawers. It's a fun topic."
Yes, definitely a fun topic! Yup, I'm due for some reorganizing as well because pretty soon I won't be able to open that drawer!
Thanks so much for stopping by, Arlee. Have a fantastic week!
Hiya Matt!
ReplyDelete"One thing that I don't like doing is cleaning out the refrigerator. My girlfriend hates it too, so we take turns. Fridges can get so gross after a few months."
Ditto! And I know what you mean because things either spill or can get really gross in a refrigerator. Yuk!
"But is that your television on the right? It's looks small. We've got one of those big screen TV's."
Yes, can you believe it? THAT'S my TV!! It's only 15 1/2 inches, but since I don't really watch television, I barely use it. I'll sometime use it to watch a DVD, but mainly I use my computer to watch movies, which has a 32 inch monitor. My brother also has one of those big screen TV's.
Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a most excellent week!

Your refridgerator freezer has the same kind of iceberg chunks as my stand up freezer, ha! At least your desk is neat; mine looks like your junk drawer!
ReplyDeleteNew Hope looks absolutely charming! When I was a kid, we used to take day trips to a little place called Metamora, Indiana that was situated alongside a canal. Total tourist trap, but it looked like it was plucked straight out of the 1800s and I always enjoyed those visits. I'd imagine your trip to New Hope brought back similar good feelings and memories.
ReplyDeleteI think you can learn a lot about a person by looking at the contents of his/her junk drawer. Mine is mostly kitchen knickknacks. Sure enough, that speaks volumes about who I am!
ReplyDeleteLove the hardwood floors in your apartment, btw. It may be small, but it looks like it's got lots of charm. And that view!!
Plus, you're no doubt within easy walking distance of a delicious Philly cheesesteak...
We have a little fridge just like that in the office that needs to be periodically defrosted. Very annoying! But it's small and it fits.
ReplyDeleteI think you're home office looks very clean-lined and organized. I like that. And the squirrels are very cute! You know, I've always had a junk drawer in the kitchen but in this new house I don't. I do, however, still have loads of stuff I need to get rid of.
Ron, I HATE defrosting freezers! We have an old one out in the garage (okay, it's mainly for extra storage) that still needs this done, only about once a year. It's a huge MESS to do, too -- all that melting water's gotta go somewhere, right? Well, it slops up the floor and runs right down the driveway, making it look like we run a car wash!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think your computer desk loos bad at all! In fact, I can see what a "neatnick" you are by how everything's in its place! And those squirrels are very cute -- Dallas loves to chase squirrels, but I think even he would leave these alone!
Yes, my friend, we ALL have a junk drawer (some probably have more than one, ha!). Some things just don't "file" easily, do they??
Happy week to you, and don't work so hard, 'k?!
OMG, Ron. When I read the part about hardly being able to slip a piece of paper in there, I thought you were just exaggerating. But no. And har. You kill me. I love the look of your work space. It's perfect and looks very clean and neat and squirrel-filled, as it should be.
ReplyDeleteDo I have a junk drawer? Do I have a junk drawer? I am a junk drawer! Hee.
Hope you enjoyed the weekend, my friend. Getting so nice we might have to actually plan a get together before it turns to shit in summer and I start not leaving air conditioning. Just sayin'.
Mark is cracking me up with these cheesesteak comments. How long can he keep it up?
ReplyDelete"It looks like the size of the iceberg that sunk the RMS Titanic during its maiden voyage!" LOL Ron, you're a pisser! But you're right, that's one hell of an iceberg!
ReplyDeleteYes, I do have a junk drawer. I have two! One in the kitchen and one in my bedroom. Your computer desk area looks so much neater than mine. I must confess, I'm not the most organized person. I have good intentions of being more like that, but somehow it goes back to being messy. I have a lot of papers on my desk, which makes everything look cluttered.
I love your squirrel collection. Cute! I love squirrels too!
"and how neat to go back and re-live some of those old memories. It's really neat that you could go there and feel so connected to your mom."
ReplyDeleteI was totally surprised by how much I felt so connected to my mother from being there. Vivid memories came flooding back. I could feel her smiling in my heart :)
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a super week!

"New Hope looks absolutely charming!"
ReplyDeleteMark you would SO love New Hope. It's your kind of town because it has such an artsy, open, quirky and diversified feel to it. It kinda of reminds me of what Portland must be like.
"I'd imagine your trip to New Hope brought back similar good feelings and memories."
Yup, it sure did!
Thanks for stopping by, buddy. Have a fantastic week!
X to you and Tara
"At least your desk is neat; mine looks like your junk drawer!"
ReplyDeleteOMG, that made me laugh out loud!
"Your refridgerator freezer has the same kind of iceberg chunks as my stand up freezer, ha!"
You too!?! I almost had to get out my hair dryer to try and melt the iceberg because it took so long. Luckily, by early evening it had fully defrosted.
Have a spectacular week, my friend. And thanks for stopping by!

"I think you can learn a lot about a person by looking at the contents of his/her junk drawer. Mine is mostly kitchen knickknacks. Sure enough, that speaks volumes about who I am!"
ReplyDeleteHA! You're right, Mark, it can! And you can tell by the contents of my junk drawer, I'm addicted to Starlight peppermints and am afraid that I'm not going have reading glasses when I need them!
"Love the hardwood floors in your apartment, btw. It may be small, but it looks like it's got lots of charm. And that view!!"
Thank you. I love the hardwood floors too. I like how they sometimes "creak" when I walk over certain areas. Those floors have been in this building since the 1930's!
"Plus, you're no doubt within easy walking distance of a delicious Philly cheesesteak."
Bwhahahahaha! CRACKED ME UP!
Have a faaaaabulous week, buddy. And thanks for stopping by!

ReplyDelete"We have a little fridge just like that in the office that needs to be periodically defrosted. Very annoying! But it's small and it fits."
ReplyDeleteIsn't it such a hassle to defrost? But you're right, it's small and it fits.
" And the squirrels are very cute!" Aren't they adorable? I love looking up at them whenever I'm at my desk!
"You know, I've always had a junk drawer in the kitchen but in this new house I don't. I do, however, still have loads of stuff I need to get rid of."

Oh noooooo! My freezer is very small, so the water runs into a plastic trap that fits on the underside. However, I had to keep up with emptying it because there was SO MUCH ice this time!!!
"I don't think your computer desk loos bad at all! In fact, I can see what a "neatnick" you are by how everything's in its place!"
Thank you and yes, I'm pretty much a neatnick, however, that junk drawer leaves a lot to be desired! My apartment is very small, so I have to be neat or else the place gets too cluttered looking.
Have a faaaaaaabulous week, my friend. And thanks a bunch for stopping by!

Helloooooo there Kathy!
ReplyDelete"When I read the part about hardly being able to slip a piece of paper in there, I thought you were just exaggerating. But no."
HA! Nope, I didn't exaggerate, did I? A few days before I defrosted it, I had to remove a bag of microwavable rice that was still left inside. And it took me forever to get it out because it was frozen to the ice!!!
"Do I have a junk drawer? Do I have a junk drawer? I am a junk drawer! Hee."
HAHAHAHAHAHA! And do you know what's funny? I thought of your blog when I post this title!
" Getting so nice we might have to actually plan a get together before it turns to shit in summer and I start not leaving air conditioning. Just sayin'."
Yes, let's DO! And yes, before it turns to shit in the summer because I cannot deal with the heat. Let me know when a time would be good for you to come into Philly, okay?
Have a FAB week, neighbor! And thanks so much for stopping by!

Hey ho Robert!
ReplyDelete" But you're right, that's one hell of an iceberg!'
Wasn't that sucker HUGE!?! That's the worst its ever gotten.
" I have a lot of papers on my desk, which makes everything look cluttered."
OMG, I have this "thing" about papers. I'm forever throwing them away because I can't stand to have them around. I actually get claustrophobic if they pile up.
"I love your squirrel collection. Cute! I love squirrels too!"
Aren't they adorable? Squirrels ROCK!

Ron, I forgot to mention in my first comment about the clip of Will and Grace you have on your sidebar this week. It's HYSTERICAL! Don't you just love Karen? She's was my favorite in the show!
ReplyDeleteRobert, I found that clip on You Tube last night and CRACKED UP LAUGHING! Yes, Karen was HYSTERICAL! She and Jack were my two favorite characters in the show!
ReplyDeleteI don¨t know if I dare confess this - but your computer desk looks very tidy (compared to mine).... And what cute cups you got.
ReplyDelete"I don¨t know if I dare confess this - but your computer desk looks very tidy (compared to mine)."
ReplyDeleteYes, but it's just a distraction from my sloppy junk drawer - HA!
"And what cute cups you got."
Thank you :) That's my little "squirrel family."
Oh, how I adore squirrels!
Have a super week, my friend. And thanks a bunch for stopping by!

First of all. What is point of life, sans a junk drawer? Secondly, your freezer situation just begs the question, "Why the hell does Ron still have one of those antiquated refrigerators??"
ReplyDeleteMUAHAHHA. just kidding. But formal, I feel you on that. I have freezers on top of deep freezers on top of spare freezers. Because otherwise I'd have to run to the store like every day with all the cooking I have to do. And squirrels are legit, btw ;)
"First of all. What is point of life, sans a junk drawer?"
ReplyDeleteHA! Exactly!
"Secondly, your freezer situation just begs the question, "Why the hell does Ron still have one of those antiquated refrigerators??"
I know, isn't it pathetic? Call me Ron Fred Flintstone!
" And squirrels are legit, btw ;)"
Aren't they the cutest little things? If I could have one as a pet, I would :)
Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a fantastic week!

Oh dear Ron, you REALLY REALLY need a new fridge. Wowsa!!! That's some iceberg.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a lot of real needs when it comes to appliances but a decent fridge is a must. Can you not request one from the landlord there? Or is this not a rental? I always think those cutsie little fridges shaped like Coke chests etc..are so neat. And I'm assuming the newer ones would be frost free.
As far as your office space goes, i think it looks very nice. Functional and still everything you need in spite of limited space. Well done on that.
Love those china critters too, awww...how cute!
Have a great day and Happy Earth Day too! G :-)
Hey there Geraldine!
ReplyDelete" Wowsa!!! That's some iceberg. I don't have a lot of real needs when it comes to appliances but a decent fridge is a must. Can you not request one from the landlord there? Or is this not a rental? "
HA! Isn't it HUGE? And yes, I live in a rental and that's the fridge that comes with these apartment. I have what's called, a-three-in-one, which contains the fridge, stove and sink - they're all in one. So the only way I could request a new fridge would be if it broke, but even then, they would have to replace it with another non frost-free fridge. I don't really have a full kitchen, it's called a kitchenette, because of the size of my studio apartment. But that's really fine because I'm not someone who loves to cook, therefore it doesn't bother me.
"Love those china critters too, awww...how cute!"
Thank you. Aren't they CUTE? I adore squirrels :)
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Happy Earth Day to you too!

LOL! Mulder has a beer fridge on the porch and the freezer looks just like yours! He is NOT faithful about defrosting it.
ReplyDeleteYou know, bro, the reason that all those rooms in magazines look amazing is because NO ONE LIVES IN THEM!!! My whole house looks like your junk drawer right now. It's absolutely astounding what a 2 year old can do to a house!
(I'm so happy that you like your squirrels. I think of you every time I see one. I tend to think of you a lot when I'm on the porch!)
How wonderful that you were able to go back to relive such beautiful memories and make some new ones! The pictures are fabulous! Hope you get to visit more often.
ReplyDelete" Mulder has a beer fridge on the porch and the freezer looks just like yours!"
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one on this planet that does't have a frost-free fridge!

HA! Yeah, I think you're right!
"(I'm so happy that you like your squirrels. I think of you every time I see one. I tend to think of you a lot when I'm on the porch!)"

I miss that show, Ron. It was one of a kind!
ReplyDeleteIt sure was, Robert! One of these days I would like to purchase the series on DVD!
ReplyDeleteHOW DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN, I do not understand how the freezer does it. Ours is the same, only we've stopped bothering to defrost it. There's a half-full container of ice cream in there that torments us because the ice has left it totally trapped.
ReplyDeleteHello there Mitch!
ReplyDelete"There's a half-full container of ice cream in there that torments us because the ice has left it totally trapped."
HA! Yes, I know exactly what you mean because there have been times (like this time) when I waited far too long to defrost and ended up having something inside that I couldn't remove until I defrost the freezer. UGH!
Thanks so much for stopping by, Mitch! Hope you're enjoying a beautiful spring!
