Post updates by email:

Over the weekend I decided to go shopping for new underwear because my current stash was looking tattered and worn. And the worst part about this is that I had to go to a section of town that I hate because the only two stores who carry underwear that is reasonably priced (I REFUSE to pay $25.00 for a pair of underwear with some fancy designers name on it), are located in a trashy part of Philly.

As I've shared before in a past post, Center City Philadelphia has the worst shopping. We have either high-end designer stores, or ill kept outlets. And can you believe we don't even have a Target in Center City? What a sacrilege!

Anyway. I first went to Marshall's and found no underwear in my size, nor could I find briefs. Then I went across the street to Burlington Coat Factory and had to close my eyes while walking through the store because everything was THROWN all over the place as if a tornado had swept through. The store was a total MESS.

When I finally located the men's underwear section, again, I could not find underwear in my size or any briefs.

I know I'm probably one of the few men who wears underwear briefs, but what can I tell you, I like them. Yet, all I could initially find where boxers. Boxers. And more boxers.

I can't stand boxers because they give absolutely no "junk" support and feel way too baggy under my pants. The one and only time I ever tried wearing boxers, it felt as if I were wearing TWO pairs of pants. Nope, no boxers for me.

The most popular men's underwear now seems to be boxer briefs. And I can't stand these either because I don't like how they hug the upper part of my legs like bicycle shorts. Again, it feels as though I'm wearing two pairs of pants. Nope, no boxer briefs for me.

I also noticed men's bikini underwear. I mean, do men still wear these?!? Sorry, but they're too tight; feeling as though you're wearing a Speedo bathing suit.

As I said, my favorite underwear are briefs, like these...

They're not too tight or too loose; giving me the perfect support and comfort I enjoy. I also should add here that I prefer my briefs in either black or grey because they stay cleaner-looking.

After searching the men's department at Burlington and not finding anything in my style or size, I decided to try the young men's department because I sometimes get lucky finding my size. My waist is 30 inches, so I can very often wear a young man's large size. But alas, all I could find were boxers or boxer briefs. That is until I spotted a package of large size briefs waaaaaay in back of the rack.

And the most brilliant thing about it was that they were only $8.99 for a 5-pack. Eureka, I had struck GOLD!

I also noticed that the colors looked good. From outside of the package I could see black, grey, and navy blue, but wasn't sure what the other two colors were. But hell, for $8.99 I didn't care because even if they were white, I could deal with it.

Well, when I got home and opened the package this is what I discovered...

Not bad, hu?

However...

underneath those colors I discovered these...
They look like a new line of Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat underwear!

Oh well, it looks like I only got THREE pairs of underwear briefs for $8.99. Because I wouldn't be caught DEAD wearing those striped skivvies. I'll most likely use them for dust rags.

Happy Monday, y'all!

  1. LOL You could wear them round the apartment and save the others to go out in.

I KNOW your problem, Ron. Joe had the same. Fortunately when in that recent predicament he was obliged to buy those what he called b***** awful boxers. He's got used to them now which is a good thing since his once-preferred style only seems to be available on the net. Yes, I've searched the stores and found .... zilch.

    Happy Monday, my friend x

  2. A hilarious post, Ron, because my husband goes through the same thing. In fact, the Hanes briefs you pictured are what he wears. We always stop at a huge outdoor outlet mall on the way to Columbus, just to go to their Hanes store so he can stock up. He wouldn't be caught dead in those striped ones either! Good grief, what designer genius came up with that??

My son wears the boxers. He made the switch in high school, probably from peer pressure! I can't imagine how they could be comfortable. Then again, I don't know how he can stand having a huge phone in his pocket either. Kids!

  3. Good morning Valerie!

"You could wear them round the apartment and save the others to go out in."

OMG, no! I couldn't stand to see myself wearing them if I happened to past by a mirror - HAHAHA!

" what he called b***** awful boxers."

    LOVE it!!!! And I agree!

"Yes, I've searched the stores and found .... zilch."

Isn't it something how you can't find them in stores anymore? It's like they've just disappeared off the shelves.

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Have a great Monday and week!

    X to you and Joe

  4. Hey there Bijoux!

"In fact, the Hanes briefs you pictured are what he wears. We always stop at a huge outdoor outlet mall on the way to Columbus, just to go to their Hanes store so he can stock up."

Your husbands wears briefs too? Yahoo, it's good to hear that I'm not the only who prefers them. I think the next time I see them, I'm going to stock up as well because they're getting harder and harder to find. Also, it's a challenge to find them in smaller sizes.

"Good grief, what designer genius came up with that??"

Aren't they hideous? Especially those purple and lavender ones!

"My son wears the boxers. He made the switch in high school, probably from peer pressure! I can't imagine how they could be comfortable."

I agree. Yet, it seems that most of the younger generation perfers boxers. And I've noticed that from some of the kids I've seen on the streets walking around with their pants halfway down around their butts - HA!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have an awesome week!

  5. What a hysterical post, Ron! I think if I were a guy I would prefer wearing the briefs too. And it's the same with women's underwear because some of the styles are so uncomfortable, like the ones in Victoria's Secret with all the lace. And thongs. Omg, I can't stand them! And did you know that they have boxer briefs for women too? There is no way I would wear those.

Thank you for the Monday morning laughs, Ron. Have a wonderful week x

  6. Ron, I just had to share this post with my husband because he wears briefs as well and feels the same way about boxers and boxer briefs. He can't stand them. I will sometimes pick him up an extra pack of briefs whenever I spot them in the mall. He prefers them in basic white. He's so traditional.

"They look like a new line of Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat underwear!" LOL. He and I both laughed at that!

    Have a great week, Ron!

"And it's the same with women's underwear because some of the styles are so uncomfortable, like the ones in Victoria's Secret with all the lace. And thongs. Omg, I can't stand them!"

Yes, they make thongs for men too and there is no way in hell I could ever wear them. OMG, talk about uncomfortable!

"And did you know that they have boxer briefs for women too? There is no way I would wear those."

No, I had no idea they made boxer briefs for women?!

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a fantabulous week!

  8. Hey there Elaine!

Yeah, another man who wears briefs!!!!!

"He prefers them in basic white. He's so traditional."

I used to wear only white too, but found that the darker colors stay cleaner-looking. Most of mine are black or a dark grey.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a grrrrrrreat week!

  9. "I can't stand boxers because they give absolutely no "junk" support" ROFLMAO! You are too damn funny, Ron! I agree with you, I can't stand boxers. My underwear of choice are boxer briefs, but not the stretchy (bicycle pant) kind. I prefer the softer, cotton ones.

I have issues finding smaller size underwear too. I never thought of trying the young men's department. Thanks for the idea!

    Entertaining post, dude!

  10. Hiya Matt!

" My underwear of choice are boxer briefs, but not the stretchy (bicycle pant) kind. I prefer the softer, cotton ones."

Yup, I've noticed that they seem to be the most popular underwear for men. It's getting harder and harder to find just briefs.

"I have issues finding smaller size underwear too. I never thought of trying the young men's department. Thanks for the idea!"

Yes, try looking in the young men's department because if your waist is smaller, like mine, a young man's large size is a small size in men's. Plus, they are so much cheaper.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a most excellent week!

  11. Ron, you do crack me up! I'm sorry you had to ride the Struggle Bus over this purchase, but a teeny part of me is glad I'm not the only one, ha! Buying women's underwear is no less challenging -- trust me on this!

I don't know, but I kind of dig those lavender striped ones!! Just think what an impression you'd make on the ambulance attendants if you ever needed medical attention :)

At any rate, three GOOD pairs for $3 each sounds like a bargain -- well done! Have a super Monday, dear!

  12. You crack me up. When it comes to underwear, A. It's gotta be boxers, and B. The crazier and louder the design, the better. After all, who's going to see them? Other than Tara, of course! Then again, I'm the guy who once bought a pair of boxers featuring Tabasco bottles on them, and another with monkeys. Let's not even discuss the pair of Spongebob Squarepants shorts, 'k?

  14. One word: Ebay. I rarely leave my keyboard to shop anymore.

  15. Out of curiosity, I just checked Amazon and they appear to have men's briefs for a reasonable price. You might try there.

That said, I much ,much prefer men in boxer briefs.I discovered them when I had to buy undies for my sons. I think regular boxers look stodgy and old-guy-ish. And I have never, ever liked the look of men's briefs. Especially the white ones. So I breathed a sigh of relief the first time I saw m boyfriend undress and saw that he wears boxer briefs.

But at least you can buy your undies in packs. Finding comfortable but still sexy women's underwear in a style that doesn't show through clothing can be a maddening exercise in frustration.

  17. Ron, crack me the hell up! What a funny post! I wear both - boxer briefs and briefs. And I agree with you about boxers, no "junk" support. LOL! I like my underwear in sold colors, no patterns. I laughed at your expression on the striped brief underneath the solids - "They look like a new line of Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat underwear!" - they do!!

"Just think what an impression you'd make on the ambulance attendants if you ever needed medical attention :)"

HAHAHA! OMG, I CANNOT believe you mentioned that because I was almost gong to mention the same thing, I kid you not! I was going to say that if I was ever in car accident or something, the paramedics would freak when they got a load of those purple and lavender briefs!

I agree, three pairs of undies for $3.00 was not bad :)

  28. Me as well, Ron! I've seen many documentaries on the history of the RMS Titanic and several movies that were made about its maiden voyage and the night it sank.

  30. LOL! Well, there's always Amazon! Entrepreneur prefers them as well. But don't feel too alone...women's underwear isn't all that great either. If you don't embrace "Victoria Secret Angelwear," the selection is pretty sad.

  31. I have run in to the same problem Ron! My husband wears briefs also and it is almost impossible to find them! Those LAVENDER striped briefs are almost too bright to use for dust rags!! They are hideous!! I have found some at JCPenney and I think you can sometimes find them at BJ's or Sam's Club. Speaking of Burlington...I have NEVER walked in to a store that was orderly. EVER. It ALWAYS looks like a tornado hit it! I'm glad you were able to find some briefs in black and blue. You totally crack me up!! I always laugh when I read your posts...you sure do have a way with words Ron! xo Jeanne and the girls

" Speaking of Burlington...I have NEVER walked in to a store that was orderly. EVER. It ALWAYS looks like a tornado hit it!"

That's good to hear because I thought it was just something about the one in Philly. We used to have K-MART in that part of Philly as well and it was a MESS too.

  34. Hey, Ron, I see you went undercover for this post!

Like you, I can't stand boxer shorts either; most uncomfortable! And bikini briefs are definitely not for me.

No, I like old school briefs, but I enjoy the freaky colored ones, which should tell you how exciting my life is.

And since they are underwear--as in UNDER your clothes--you don't have to worry about being seen in them. However, in light of your experience, I think it's only proper that you model both of those wacky striped skivvies for your readers. Let us judge for ourselves!

    Keep it brief, buddy!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. And welcome back! Hope you had a fantastic time on your LA trip. Can't wait to read all about it.

  36. At the time I first saw this post, I got as far as reading it and beginning a comment. Then, my computer started acting up with the caps lock, shift keys. They were sticking and it hasn't been since I've been on as I've had to go through the nightmare of buying and reinstalling onto a new laptop. Spilled enough liquid that corrosion set in on the left hand side of the keyboard. Ugh! But I remember laughing so hard at this post, and am so happy that it's still up for me to share.
In that, through my two marriages, I don't know how many times, my husbands because they never had the patience to buy themselves, so by default as the dutiful wife, experienced the "nopes," "not wearing those," "I wouldn't be caught dead" (always wondered who else would see them?), on, and on. But I guess in the the big scheme of things, looking back, that really was the least of our problems. LOL
I hope you were able to find what you needed, Ron. It's the little things, isn't it? :))

OMG, Petra, so sorry to hear about the spill. And I know what you mean about buying and setting up a new computer. It's such a pain. But I do hope you got it worked out and are enjoying your new laptop.

My mother did the same thing for my father, however, she always knew exactly what kind of underwear (boxers) he like to wear and never tried to change him because my father was a creature of habit. He was also that way with his pajama's!
