Wednesday I had the day off, and since the weather was so flawlessly springlike, I grabbed my camera and took a walk over to the art museum area known as, Fairmount. It's a very beautiful section of Philadelphia, with big old homes that have lots and lots of character.

The one thing I especially enjoy about Spring are the flowers and how their beautiful colors make me smile and feel extra happy.

And like Autumn, Spring brings with it beautiful aromas that only Mother Nature provides - the scent of flowers, fresh grass, and rich soil. The whole earth seems to awaken in sensory splendor.

So please enjoy Spring in Philadelphia...

Magnolias seem to be the heartiest of the Spring blossoms this year. I've seen them all over the city. They're so beautiful!

Daffodils

A fresh bed of tulips

A potpourri of flowers

Row homes
*notice the amazing craftsmanship around the doors and windows

Azaleas

Pansies

I know this last photograph has nothing to do with Spring or flowers, however, I spotted it on the street and just HAD to take a picture. In a way though, it does remind me of Spring because of its bright, cheery color.

I give you...a Mustang convertible...in Spring yellow...

Happy Spring, y'all!

and Happy Easter!

  1. Happy Easter, Ron! Beautiful photographs of spring! This is my favorite time of the year. I was born in April, so perhaps that's why I love spring. Love the pictures of the magnolias and mansion. Gorgeous!

  2. I absolutely, positively LOVE this post!!! It is FILLED with bright, spring-y photos!! You DO have quite the idea for perfect photo taking!! I cannot believe how many more flowers you have than we do...of course, we don't have ANY! bwahahahaha!! Seriously, it is VERY grey and no flowers as of yet. I remember when I drove to Cinnaminson, NJ to pick up LadyBug when I adopted her, I couldn't get over how much more spring-like it was! Apparently, spring comes to your world before mine. Your magnolia pics are stunning! Absolutely gorgeous blooms and architecture! And of course...I ADORE that yellow convertible!! Happy Easter and Happy Spring!! xo Jeanne and the girls

  3. Good morning, Ron. I had chosen my favourite photograph before I saw that car. Now it's a toss up which takes top place.

I haven't seen any magnolias this year, all spring flowers are a bit tardy because of our unseasonal weather. Yesterday was bright and beautiful but today it's bitterly cold, windy, and wet. It's about time I emigrated!!

Thanks for sharing the lovely photographs, and if you see a For Sale sign on that mansion do let me know. Have a good weekend xx

  5. Whoa! Fabulous shot of the car! And those row houses are so majestic. Great shots of color everywhere! I can't believe the magnolias are blooming there! I think we have a few weeks at least here. Hope your Easter is a beautiful one. Lots of love to you, my friend!

  6. Oh, Ron, I totally laughed out loud at that lemony convertible! And yes, it really does look like Spring -- the only thing missing is a big bunny at the wheel, ha!

I so love your photos today -- can't believe you're already seeing azaleas in bloom when ours are still merely tight buds! And who doesn't love daffodils and magnolias?? For some reason, our magnolias are gorgeous, too, this year -- must have been the mild winter.

In your "potpourri" photo, I noticed a Shamrock in bloom on the far right -- what a beauty that is for this Irish gal (especially since my lovely Fiona bit the dust!!)

    Happy Easter, dear! xx

  7. Ron, I am in love with your last picture of the Mustang because that's my favorite car. I remember seeing pictures of an older model Mustang (red) that my father had when he was in his twenties and immediately knew that when I got old enough to drive and buy my own car, I was going to get a Mustang too, except I wanted one in black. Yet my first car ended up being a Toyota. Oh well, maybe my next one will be a Mustang!

Awesome photographs, dude! That mansion in the first photo is amazing!

    Happy Easter to you!

  8. Oh Ron, you pictures are absolutely BEAUTIFUL, and perfect for this post about Spring! This (and Autumn) are the two seasons I miss the most about not living in the northeast. There is nothing like the colors of Spring! Those magnolia trees are stunning! Love the azaleas too!

The final shot of the yellow Mustang is incredible. It looks like an ad for Mustangs!

Have a Happy Easter, Ron! Hope you're spending the day with family or friends. X

  10. Helloooooooo there Jeanne!

"I cannot believe how many more flowers you have than we do...of course, we don't have ANY!"

OMG...you're kidding?!?! I can't believe that because I just assumed you (and other's who live in more suburban areas closer to nature) would have MORE flowers than us city dwellers. In fact, our cherry blossom trees have started to bloom as well. I saw some on my way home from work this evening and they were beautiful!

Don't you just love magnolia trees? I just wish they lasted all summer.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a glorious weekend!

HAPPY EASTER to you, your husband, and the girlz!

  11. Good evening, Valerie!

"I haven't seen any magnolias this year, all spring flowers are a bit tardy because of our unseasonal weather."

Yes, we've had the same strange yo-yo weather here as well - one day beautiful but the next is cold and rainy. Yesterday it was SO humid and warm, and then today it turned cold and windy. Several of my readers said the same thing about not seeing as many spring flowers as we've gotten this season. I don't know why because you would think living in city, we would have LESS flowers than the suburban areas.

"and if you see a For Sale sign on that mansion do let me know. "

HA! Isn't it BEAUTIFUL? It is a historical landmark in Philadelphia, which was turned into a mansion/apartment building with individual apartments. God only knows what the monthly rent fees are. I bet they're astronomical.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a lovely weekend and Easter!

  13. Hey there Bijoux!

Isn't that Mustang faaaaaaaaabulous? I spotted in just sitting there on the street and had to take a picture. LOVE the color!

Yes, aren't the row houses majestic? I love the architecture in this city.

"I can't believe the magnolias are blooming there! I think we have a few weeks at least here.

I know, that's what many of my reader said. And I'm shocked because you would think that we (here in the city) would be the last to get the blooms.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Happy Easter to you and your family!

    Love ya!

HAHHAHAHAHA! You are so right, the only thing missing is a big bunny at the wheel! When I spotted that car, I KNEW I had to get a picture!

" can't believe you're already seeing azaleas in bloom when ours are still merely tight buds!"

I know, I was kind of shocked to see them blooming already?!?

" For some reason, our magnolias are gorgeous, too, this year -- must have been the mild winter."

Yes, must have been. I'm surprised by how early they bloomed.

"I noticed a Shamrock in bloom on the far right -- what a beauty that is for this Irish gal (especially since my lovely Fiona bit the dust!!)"

OMG...thank you for pointing that out to me because I never even noticed the Shamrock!

Wishing you a very HAPPY Easter, my friend! And thanks a bunch for stopping by!

  15. Hiya Matt!

OMG... that is so funny! When I was a kid, Mustangs were THE car to drive. And I too loved them. I also loved Corvettes! Don't you just love the older model cars? They had such STYLE!

Btw, I also had a Toyota. I had Toyota Tercel and that car lasted me MANY, MANY years. Toyota's are GREAT cars!

Isn't that mansion fantabulous? It's a historical landmark here in Philly, which has been transformed into an apartment building with individual apartment units.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a most excellent weekend. Happy Easter to you!

  16. Hola Denise!

    Thank you:)

And me too, I never realized how much I missed the seasons of Autumn and Spring until I moved back east. There is something so beautiful about Autumn and Spring in this part of the States. Love it!

I spotted that Mustang sitting there on the street and just had to snap a picture!

Have a wonderful weekend, girl. HAPPY EASTER to you!!!!!

  17. Gorgeous photographs, Ron! I talked to my husbands relatives who live in the Chicago area and they said that they've gotten virtually no Spring at all so far. It's been very cold and grey. I'm glad for the beautiful blooms here this Spring. I've got to get over to the Fairmount area of Philly because I MUST see that mansion in person. Oh my god, it's beautiful! On what street is it located?

I love the photograph of the yellow mustang!

Happy Easter, Ron! Don't eat too much Easter candy LOl

" I talked to my husbands relatives who live in the Chicago area and they said that they've gotten virtually no Spring at all so far. It's been very cold and grey."

I know, many of my readers shared the same thing and I'm surprised about that because I thought we (who live in a city) would be the LAST to get blooming flowers.

"I've got to get over to the Fairmount area of Philly because I MUST see that mansion in person. Oh my god, it's beautiful! On what street is it located?"

Isn't that mansion magnificent? It's not far from Center City at all. I walk over there quite often and it takes me about 25-30 minutes. It's on Green and 22nd Street. That whole area over there is just beautiful!

Thanks so much for stopping by, neighbor! Have a wonderful week and Happy Easter to you!

  23. Hi Ron! Sorry I'm late to this post but I've been traveling for work and out of town. Gorgeous pictures! That first one of the mansion is so impressive. Wow, does someone actually live there?

The magnolias are starting to bloom here as well. Aren't they fabuloso? As you know, I love that the winter is over and warm weather is coming. Which is why I love spring!

Hope you had a Happy Easter, Ron!

  24. Hey ho Robert!

Thanks so much for stopping by and hope you had fun on your work travels!

Yes, people actually LIVE there! The mansion was transformed into an apartment building, so each room(s) are occupied by tenants. But it's still considered a historical landmark of Philadelphia.

Yes, the magnolias are FAB-U-LOSO! I can't get over how quickly the magnolia trees are blooming. Also, the cherry blossom trees!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, buddy. HAPPY EASTER TO YOU!!!!

Oh my gawsh! The pictures of the Magnolias are absolutely amazing! Magnolias are my most favorite flower! I barely see Magnolia trees around my way. So I really should plant one in my yard! One of these days :)
The row houses are beautiful. Craftsmanship from the past was so good. Today's standards just don't measure up. Guess that's why I love antiques!
I hope you had a wonderful Easter.
Thank you again for sharing beautiful photos of your city!

  27. I wouldn't mind seeing one of those Mustangs take bloom in my driveway this Spring! My first car was yellow and I hated the color, but you know, it kinda works on the 'Stang.

Great pics, as always! I trust your Easter was fabulous too, Ron. Did you cook yourself a big feast, or were you content on a Philly cheesesteak this year?

  28. Hey there Val!

Aw....glad they made you smile :) Yes, it was grey and rainy here too. In fact, I was thinking about going into NYC today, but when I saw the weather forecast I changed my mind. I may go in later this week though.

Bwhahahahaha! You're right, it IS my car. And the next time you and I get together in NYC, I'll pick you up in my yellow car and drive us into Manhattan (with the top DOWN).

"Craftsmanship from the past was so good. Today's standards just don't measure up. Guess that's why I love antiques!"

You sound like me. I feel the same way. You would love Philly because it's a very old city with LOTS of beautiful architecture.

"I wouldn't mind seeing one of those Mustangs take bloom in my driveway this Spring!'

HA! Aren't 'Stang's such a fabulous-looking car? I especially love the older models (60's and 70's). And yes, yellow is not my favorite color either, but it DOES look good on that car, doesn't it?

"I trust your Easter was fabulous too, Ron. Did you cook yourself a big feast, or were you content on a Philly cheesesteak this year?"

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Yes, my Easter was FABU, however, no cheesesteak for me. I actually ate Cuban food for dinner - black beans and rice, with a nice big salad. Yummy!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a most excellent week!

  33. Your talent is CRAZY GOOD. Oh my gosh that car picture could be a photo in ANY magazine rich folks read... WOW. I love all of your photos... there is never a bad one. Your choice in a new camera was perfect... the crispness of your photos are unreal. The fourth one really talks to me - the color and structure is beautiful. I think dark branch trees with flowers are so pretty. The row home picture is another favorite. That little bit of color on the door really makes the photo stand out. I know you love snow... but SPRING IS HERE SPRING IS HERE WOOO HOOOOOO!!!!

  34. Hello there Katherine!

Thanks so much for your kind and supportive words, you're a sweetheart. I am soooo glad I got this camera last year because it's taught me a lot about photography. I'm really getting into using "manual mode" and trying different things with the shutter speed and aperture.

Thank you for sharing these beautiful reminders of how lovely our world is when we just stop and look around.

  39. Great post Ron! Love all the beautiful sights and photos. This may sound a little bit odd, but where I live, the biggest change that spring brings, is longer days (helped by DST). For instance, the weather hasn't really changed that much since last October. Mild, after mild, followed by mild. It seems like everything has been in bloom for about a year. A little "real" weather would be nice every once in a while.

Yes, I know exact what you mean because I used to live in Florida where the weather just goes from warm to hot with little change. That's one of the reasons why I moved back to the northeast, I dearly missed the change of seasons.

Have a great weekend, buddy. And thanks for stopping by!
