To me there is nothing more attractive, sexy and foxy, than grey hair.

And that goes for men AND women.

Even as a kid I remember looking at people with either salt and pepper or completely grey/silver hair, and couldn't wait for the day when my own hair would start turning.

And that day arrived when I was 27-years old and the person who was cutting my hair at the time said, "Ron...I don't want to alarm you but you're starting to get a patch of grey hair on the back of your head." Well, you would have thought I had won the four million dollar lottery because I got soooo freakin' excited.

I said, "Are you kidding me?"

She said, "No...I really mean it. You're getting grey, Ron. Sorry."

My face broke into a huge smile, and I exclaimed, "Quick, quick...give me a hand mirror and turn the chair around so I can see it in the big mirror!"

And lo and behold, there it was...my first patch of GREY HAIR.

Hallelujah...it had arrived!

Yes, I was finally on my way to becoming what I had admired since I was a youngster, a Silver Fox!

-----------------------

As most of you already know, I was a licensed cosmetologist when I lived in Florida. I kept my license for over 13 years. And during that time I did my best to persuade my clients, both men and women, to stop coloring their grey hair by allowing it to grow out and be PROUD of their beautiful, foxy fur.

Many of my clients were resistant at first, and some refused to do it, however the ones who did allow their hair to go grey, ended up loving it and were grateful that I had convinced them to do so.

And not only were they saving money by not coloring their hair, but they also said that they were suddenly getting compliments about the way they looked.

-----------------------

The reason I'm sharing this post is because for the past eight months I've seen more and more customers, men and women (but especially women), who have come into the store where I work, proudly sporting their grey hair. And you have no idea how happy that makes me because I think they look absolutely beautiful. In fact, I even tell them that.

So to celebrate all the silver foxes on this planet, I would like to share images of why I think they're so, well, foxy!

Hope you're having a super week, y'all!

  1. Ron, you make some excellent points here -- and may I commend you on the silver foxes you've selected for inclusion? The men, especially, look so debonair and self-confident with their streaks of silver!

Personally, I think more women than men prefer coloring their greys. Perhaps it has something to do with society's idea of "old." I know my own dear mom refuses to let her natural greys show, despite my insistence that salt-and-pepper would look good on her! And why is it anyway that darker hair colors look wonderful with a little silver mixed in, while we blondes just "yellow up"?!!

Outstanding food for thought, my friend. Hope you're having a splendid week!!

  2. Ron, the day I decided to let my hair go au naturel gave me such a wonderful sense of freedom. It was about 8 years ago. Like you, my stylist at the time (from NY) kept trying to get me to stop coloring but I was scared. That is until I finally made the decision to just do it. I've never looked back and really like the way I look with grey hair. And so does my husband.

Wonderful selection of "silver foxes!" The gentleman in the 7th photo down is so handsome! And I love the pictures of all the females because they not only look gorgeous, but they also look confident and comfortable in their skin!

    Great post, Ron!

  3. Oh Ron, who is the gentleman in the second picture down? What a sexy foxy hottie! I want to marry him LOL!

Thank you for posting about gray hair because a few years ago I spotted several around my front hairline and freaked out, so I've been using a semi-permanent hair color from the CVS and it's working just fine. But I know eventually I will have to move into something more permanent as the grays come in more and more. I'm only in my 30's so I'm having a hard time accepting that I'm already starting to go gray. I think it's easier for men to accept than woman, but I want to be able to grow gray gracefully. My mother's sister is gray (salt and pepper) and it looks beautiful. But what's really funny is that my mother doesn't have a gray hair on her head and they're almost the same age.

Love that pic of Jamie Lee Curtis! She looks so foxy!

Great post topic, Ron! Have a wonderful week!

  4. Ron, I'm 30 and have already started going grey around my temples and it really doesn't bother me at all. I actually like it. My girlfriend likes it too. I think grey hair looks attractive. Call me strange, but I've never associated grey hair with aging because I've seen it on people of all ages and on men and women alike.

Great picture of Helen Mirren. I think she's a very sexy and foxy woman!

    Interesting post, dude!

  5. Hey there Debbie!

HA! Thank you...I tried to select a nice variety of both male and female silver foxes!

"Personally, I think more women than men prefer coloring their greys. Perhaps it has something to do with society's idea of "old."

Yes, I think you're absolutely right, it has a lot to do with society's idea of old and what it tells us. Yet it's funny because I have never, personally, found grey hair old-looking. I've always seen it as very attractive and sexy - on both men AND women.

"And why is it anyway that darker hair colors look wonderful with a little silver mixed in, while we blondes just "yellow up"?!!"

I think it's because of the stronger contrast of dark and white hair, versus blonde and white hair. It's very much like a black and white photograph. Also, when grey hair appears on blonde hair, it looks more yellow than white because of the blonde reflection.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a super rest of your week!

"That is until I finally made the decision to just do it. I've never looked back and really like the way I look with grey hair. And so does my husband."

Yahooooooooooo! Good for you! And I bet you look faaaaaaaabulous in your grey hair!!!

"The gentleman in the 7th photo down is so handsome!"

Ha! Yes, isn't he handsome? I love his smile :)

" And I love the pictures of all the females because they not only look gorgeous, but they also look confident and comfortable in their skin!"

Thanks! And thanks exactly why I chose these photographs, because the women looked genuinely confident and gorgeous!

Thanks so much for stopping by, neighbor! Hope your'e having a terrific week!

  7. Hola Denise!

" who is the gentleman in the second picture down? What a sexy foxy hottie! I want to marry him LOL!"

Hahahahahaha! I thought the same thing....what a sexy hottie! I love his dark eyes and salt and pepper hair and beard, He looks Italian (Mediterranean), doesn't he?

Yes, I think it probably is somewhat easier for men to accept grey hair. But I also had MANY male customers who had a very hard time accepting their grey hair and colored it.

"Love that pic of Jamie Lee Curtis! She looks so foxy!"

I agree, she looks very foxy! And she's let her hair go grey for some time now. And I really admire her for that!

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a wonderful week too!

You GO, boy!!!! As I shared, I was only 27 when I started with the grey hair and was so happy about it!

"Call me strange, but I've never associated grey hair with aging because I've seen it on people of all ages and on men and women alike."

    Amen...I feel the same way!

Don't ya just love Helen Mirren? Sexy and foxy indeed!

  9. Ron, what an inspiring post! I agree with Elaine, the females not only look beautiful with their grey locks, they also look confident and comfortable.

I love grey hair on men and women, I find it sexy.

What a great selection of photographs!

  10. I have another blogging friend who has let her gray hair grow out, and she looks absolutely stunning. I think it actually highlights her features and makes her face even more beautiful. Go, grey! This bodes well, because a certain somebody I am married to has quite a few grey hairs of her own and they do not bother me at all. Hell, I like them, because even though I'm eight years older, she has far more grey than I do. It evens the playing field just a tad.

    Happy Hump Day!

  11. Yes, gray is the only way! Unless you shave your head entirely, like yours truly!

Ron, it's so cool that you encourage people NOT to dye away their gray. In a society so obscenely obsessed with youth I'm glad you're taking a stand for silver!

People with mature faces can look so foolish sporing jet black hair! (Are you listening, Paul McCartney?) So, yes, gray is here to stay! Silver foxes rule!

    Have a hair-raising week, buddy!

  12. Hello there Candice!

I agree, I really loved what Elaine said about the women in the photographs looking not only beautiful in their grey hair, but also confident and comfortable. To me, they seem to GLOW!

"I love grey hair on men and women, I find it sexy."

    I do to. Very sexy!

  13. Hey there Mark!

"I think it actually highlights her features and makes her face even more beautiful."

I LOVE what you said, and totally agree! I think grey (on both men and women) highlights our features and adds to our beauty. I also think grey hair is sexy.

" because a certain somebody I am married to has quite a few grey hairs of her own and they do not bother me at all. Hell, I like them, because even though I'm eight years older, she has far more grey than I do. It evens the playing field just a tad."

HA! OMG...that cracked me up! And I also think it's awesome that both Tara and you are not bothered by grey hair and find it attractive. Go, grey!!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy! Happy Hump Day!

    X to you and Tara

  14. Hey there Rob!

"Yes, gray is the only way! Unless you shave your head entirely, like yours truly!"

Yes! And btw, I have always wanted to tell you that I really like your shaved head. I like short/or no hair on men.

"People with mature faces can look so foolish sporing jet black hair! (Are you listening, Paul McCartney?) So, yes, gray is here to stay! Silver foxes rule!"

OMG...thank you SO MUCH for saying that because I agree! To me it looks so obvious when a man colors his hair; especially when he dyes it black. Because black dyed hair ends up looking so artificial. It's just too, too dark.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a super rest of your week!

  15. Ron, I love grey hair. I always thought men looked distinguished with grey hair and I've never changed that opinion. I remember when my hair started to turn I asked the hairdressers advice about dying it. She was horrified, proclaiming that I wouldn't have grey hair as such, rather it would turn to a creamy hue. She said it made me look pretty. Well, I didn't go along with that but I did take her advice to stay as nature intended.

Heard an announcement on television yesterday that men are beginning to dye their hair. How sad is that?

  17. Hey there Valerie!

OMG...I LOVE the story you shared about your hair turning grey and your hairdresser! Good for her and good for you in taking her advice! I've seen your hair in photographs and think looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

    Grey hair ROCKS!

"Heard an announcement on television yesterday that men are beginning to dye their hair. How sad is that?"

Men (at least the ones here in the US) have been dying their hair for years. In fact, if you walked into one of our drugs store, such as, CVS or Walgreen's, you would see a hair-dying section JUST for men, I kid you not.

And I agree, how sad is that?

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Hope you're having a smashingly fabulous week!

  18. What a great post, Ron! I'm in my 20's and can't wait for the day when my hair starts turning salt and pepper. I think men and women look so handsome, beautiful, classy and sexy with grey hair. You've selected such a wonderful group of photos for this post, all of them look fabuloso!

Like Denise, I think the gentleman in the second photo below the collage is such a hottie. What good-looking man...woot!

I also think the woman in the final collage with the long grey hair is just gorgeous!

  19. Hey ho Robert!

" I'm in my 20's and can't wait for the day when my hair starts turning salt and pepper."

Yup, I felt the same way in my twenties, and I was SO happy when saw my first grey's at 27.

    *I did the happy dance*

"Like Denise, I think the gentleman in the second photo below the collage is such a hottie. What good-looking man...woot!"

Hahahahahaha! Yes, I thought so too! He is one handsome man!!! He looks Mediterranean, doesn't he? Perhaps, Italian?

Yes, isn't she a gorgeous woman, with that long grey, wavy hair? I love her smile!

  20. Keep calm and love a silver fox. I love it!!!

Having been a redhead all my life I have always wondered what my hair would do "gray wise." It turns out I have a section on the top of my head that decided to go gray before anything else. I dye my hair to make it what it was since it has dulled... but that darned gray hair shows up just two weeks after each dye. Then after my son's surgery I found that patch turned in to a thick gray streak. NO LIE. I'm not ready to go completely gray because I don't have it all around except for my patch. But I talked my mom in to staying gray years ago and she looks AMAZING. She has silver and darker silver and it is really pretty on her.

So yes, gray is certainly pretty. And men with gray hair? Hot. VERY VERY hot.

Love it! I know that a friend who runs a hairdressing salon keeps advertising silver hair extensions... Apparently it's all the range to dye your hair grey! Luckily for me, I don't need to dye it - yes, I'm a silver fox too!

  22. Ron, I remember years ago while at a Kmart, the woman behind the counter has a long bob and it was grey. I couldn't stop staring at it. It was shiny and bouncy and I thought it was absolutely beautiful!
And those pictures you've posted show how beautiful it really is. I don't know why we as people worry so much about gray hair. If taken care of, it's stunning.
I'll be 51 this year but I don't have any gray hair. My blonde hair has actually gotten much darker since menopause. I'm probably taking after my dad and grandpap. They both have/had very little gray. Crazy, my dad will be 74 and just a titch of silver around his ears (although he's almost bald lol).
I do think I will let my hair go natural when I finally go grey. Perhaps a long bob--to remember the beautiful cashier who embraced her silver fox!!
Great post! Thank you for sharing!
    Have a fantabulous week!! ((YOU))
P.S. I was in West Palm early in the week and oh my gawsh--the humidity! I couldn't breathe. Here it's a nice cool 70. I could take that all year!! :)

  23. Hey there Katherine!!!

HA! I found that keep calm graphic online and just had to use it. Isn't it faaaabulous?

" I have a section on the top of my head that decided to go gray before anything else. I dye my hair to make it what it was since it has dulled... but that darned gray hair shows up just two weeks after each dye."

Yes, that's natural because grey hair (on account of being very porous) does not hold artificial hair color as long as the hairs that are pigmented. And usually a person goes grey around the front of the head first (such as the temples) because there is more blood flow in the back of the head (being closer to the spine), therefore it usually takes longer for the hair in the back to turn grey.

" But I talked my mom in to staying gray years ago and she looks AMAZING. She has silver and darker silver and it is really pretty on her."

That's AWESOME! And I bet she looks gorgeous in her silver hair!

  25. Hellooooooo Pam!

" I don't know why we as people worry so much about gray hair. If taken care of, it's stunning."

I agree with you 100%...grey hair is STUNNING! I think it's looked upon as not being attractive because we automatically associate grey hair with AGING, which is not entirely true because I see many men and women with premature grey hair and it looks gorgeous! Also, society say's it's okay for a man to have grey hair because it's distinguished-looking, but on a woman it looks old. Which to me is NOT true.

"They both have/had very little gray. Crazy, my dad will be 74 and just a titch of silver around his ears (although he's almost bald lol)."

See, that's another thing that is not true about grey hair, not ALL people (men or women) go grey with they get older. I've known many people who NEVER get a grey hair their entire life.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a fantabulous weekend!

P.S. Yes, that's one of the MAIN reasons why I moved back to the northeast from Florida. I could no long stand the heat and oppressive humidity after being there for 20 years. My brother lives close to West Palm, he lives in Delray Beach!

  26. I agree that it looks very sexy on the men. But for some reason, I just can't get behind the long grey hair on women. I'll continue doing my root touch ups! LOL

  27. Hey there Bijoux!

" But for some reason, I just can't get behind the long grey hair on women. "

I think it depends on the woman and her face shape, and also her personality. I've seen many older women who choose to keep their grey hair long and it looks elegant and very classy.

  30. ron, i like gray hair on some people, it looks fabulous. i just colored my hair, the gray just doesn't work for me, especially with my young face and fantastic body (hahahah, okay i'm drunk). i wonder how long would it take for all my hair to go gray without coloring it. now you got me wondering. i always feel better though after getting it colored.

it looks great on all those people above.

"i just colored my hair, the gray just doesn't work for me, especially with my young face and fantastic body (hahahah, okay i'm drunk)."

Hahahahahahahaha! OMG, that cracked me the hell up, I love your sense of humor!!!

Wow, knowing you for so many years, I had no idea you colored your hair - it looks totally natural!

It all depends on how fast your hair grows and how often you get it cut. Your hair is short, so I don't think it would take very long to grow it out. And I also think you would look faaabulous with grey hair.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a super-duper week!

  32. LOL! You picked some great examples of good-lookin' silver foxes! Too bad most of our culture doesn't share your opinion. I believe society is much more embracing of men with grey hair than women.....just look at all the hair color options on the shelves! Me? Not much grey and what's there is "blended" into some well-placed highlights! ;-)

Yes, true...very true. However, there I'm glad to see more and more women allowing their grey hair to show because they think it's beautiful.
