Can you believe it?

Not one, but BOTH my computers passed away within three days of each other.

First, my 6-year old desktop died. And when I say died, it suddenly (without any warning of ever being even remotely sick) STOPPED BREATHING in the middle of the day.

I was utterly devastated.

Yet, what could I do except whip out my trusty 8-year old laptop and use it until I could do some research and then buy a new desktop. But after only three days of using it, it too died. WTF?!? But at least I got a warning sign because just before it passed away it started making a weird grinding sound, so I could tell that something was dreadfully wrong. As soon as I heard the strange noise, I jumped up from my desk chair and pleaded with it, "NO...NO...PLEASE DON'T DIE TOO, PLEASE DON'T DIE TOO...NOOOO!!!"

I quickly grabbed the computer and took it to a nearby Computer Hospital Emergency Room. The geek squad there took my laptop and immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, using two defibrillation paddles in an attempt to my save its life...

But alas, after three attempts...there was nothing they could do. It was too late.

It was d.e.a.d.

*insert sad music*

How tragic it was to have lost two computers within the same week.

However, there is a bright spot to this story...

You see, I did purchase a new desktop computer (and quite quickly I might add) that was not only everything I wanted, but I also got it ON SALE!

*doing the happy dance*

I planned on getting an all-in-one desktop computer because I wanted to save space on my desk by not having a separate hard drive tower. I've always admired the Apple iMac all-in-one computers, but didn't want to pay the price, so I found the next best quality computer, a Hewlett Packard. I've always owned HP's and have enjoyed them.

And can I just tell you, I FREAKING LOVE THIS NEW COMPUTER!

It's so sleek and compact. And it totally matches my white HP printer/scanner that I purchased last December. Now, everything on my computer desk is white and I love it because it's so clean-looking.

Also, this new desktop computer has a built-in web cam, which my other desktop did not. It also came with a beautiful 22 inch HD monitor that is crystal clear. Oh, and the audio system is fab-u-lous!

Yet I will admit, it took some time to get used to Windows 10 because it is SOOOOO different than Windows 7. But after two weeks of working with it, I'm finding that I really, really like it.

One thing though, I absolutely detest the browser that Windows 10 comes with (Microsoft Edge) because it's way too confusing and extremely slow ; therefore I quickly replaced it with Google Chrome (my favorite web browser).

Anyway, here's my new computer all set up on my desk....

Isn't it faaaaaaaaaabulous?

Have a great rest of your week, y'all!

  1. You and me both.... again. I'm still using two laptops and keep promising myself I WILL go out and buy a new one. On one of mine the new Windows 10 (which was forced on me) won't let me get on line. The other one has a professional programme that I can't handle (it was Joe's gift to me and he knew nothing about installing programmes) but at least it gets me on line.

I like the look of your new computer, it's a while since I used a separate keyboard. Good luck with it.

Great post, I love the humour that runs through it. Happy Thursday!

  2. I almost passed out when I read that TWO of your computers died!!! OMG Ron, isn't it awful??? We rely SO much on technology for every day life!! Banking, news, social media, BLOGS! I am thrilled you were able to get one on sale!! That is freakin' awesome!! I got a Toshiba for my birthday a couple of years ago and it has worked out pretty well for me and I passed along my beloved PINK Dell Laptop to my husband. The good thing about the Toshiba was that it was loaded with Windows 8 (at the time) and had a disk drive...so many of them do not have them anymore. I have now also upgraded to Windows 10 and am very pleased (and YES I also immediately switched over to Google Chrome...my preferred browser!!).

I have gone back and forth about the Mac. I do love my ipad and iphone and would love the MacBook...but it is very expensive. If I decide to sell my scooter, then perhaps I will purchase the Mac. It's kind of a wait and see thing. It is simply amazing to me that technology changes SO FAST!! My pink Dell was my 50th birthday present. It lasted approximately 5 years. Now, I think most laptops are good for maybe...three?? They just don't make things like they used to!

Hope all is well with you my friend...now that you are doing your HAPPY Dance!! I can just SEE you doing that...Surprised you didn't put up a video! LOL!! I absolutely LOVE the look of your gorgeous new set up! Congrats!

  3. Ron, I laughed at the geek squad picture and defibrillation sound effect clip. Hilarious! I've heard pros and cons about Windows 10. I still run Windows 7 and am holding off as long as I can before I make the switch,

Love the look of your new computer. I have an HP as well and like it.

  4. I trust your computers were backed up and you didn't lose any vital info - we are an iMac household - had to switch from a MacBook to a desktop a couple of years ago because the old eyes aren't what they used to be. Took me a while to convince my husband to go Mac - but once you go Mac you will not go back!

  5. So that's where you've been! I'm delighted you found such an awesome-looking computer to replace the two that died on you, Ron. Wow, and getting just what you want -- on sale -- is a real bonus!

Isn't it funny how computers used to be a luxury, when now they're a necessity? I mean, our LIVES are on those machines and no way are we content to live in a cave when there's so much going on in the world! I didn't think I'd like Windows 10 either, but I do (I don't like Edge much, though!).

Looks like you made a great buy -- enjoy the setup and have a super weekend!! xx

  6. Wow, Ron, losing two computers in the same week is scary. You know about my computer woes, which I think--please God!--are fixed now.

You feel so helpless without the damn things, and you pretty much are, given how the world is all connected. I feel like doing the Peter Pan/Tinkerbell schtick and asking people to clap and keep my computer alive!

Your new machine looks like a beaut and I wish you all the best with it!

    Take care, buddy!

  7. It's quite distressing to lose a computer, so I can't imagine two going at once!
We got a new HP desktop in January and I like it a lot. Doesn't have the webcam, so it's not the same as yours. I still haven't quite become used to Windows10. And yes, Google Chrome ALL THE WAY!

  8. "You and me both.... again."

Ha! I know, Valerie, when I read your post a couple of weeks ago I thought how ironic!

I was not fond of Windows 10 when I first got the new computer, however, it's grown on me. Now mind you, I uninstalled MANY of the programs that where not things I would ever use, so I simplified the whole software. Also, I don't like how Windows 10 doesn't give you useful things, such as, Microsoft Office (which so basic). They do give you a trial period, but after so many weeks, it stops working.

Thank you, I LOVE the look of this new computer. It's so clean and streamline.

Hope you had a happy Thursday, my friend. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  9. Helloooo there Jeanne!

I know could you just die? TWO computers died within three days of each other. I feel SO blessed that I found this new one so quickly and on SALE! I couldn't believe what the original price was compared to the price I got it for. It was almost $200.00 off!

"The good thing about the Toshiba was that it was loaded with Windows 8 (at the time) and had a disk drive...so many of them do not have them anymore. "

Yes, you are absolutely right....many of them no longer come with a disk drive. In fact, my previous laptop did not come with one.

Don't ya just LOVE Google Chrome? It's so fast and easy. And I find that graphics and photos better than other browsers.

I feel exactly the same way about buying a Mac. I know they're great computers, however, I'm not ready to pay the price ticket. Honestly, I've always had good luck with HP's, so I stick with them.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a grrrrrrrreat rest of your week!

X to you and the girlz

  10. Hey there Candice!

HA! I couldn't resist using the defibrillation sound effect and photos.

"I still run Windows 7 and am holding off as long as I can before I make the switch."

I absolutely LOVED Windows 7. I had Windows Vista when it first came out and hated it. OMG...it was the worst software in the WORLD.

Don't you love HP products? I've always had their computers and printers. Once I got an Epson printer and never got another one because it was simply not a dependable product.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaabulous week!

  11. Hey there Grace!

Fortunately, I had nothing (documents or photos) on my laptop computer, so I didn't lose a thing. I had a few pictures and documents on my desktop, but nothing I was upset to have lost. I pretty much save most of my documents and photographs on a cloud. I keep a minimum on my computers for two reasons: to save space, and for safe keeping.

One of these days I will most likely purchase a Mac because I've used them in the past and loved them. However, right now I'm not willing to pay the price.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a super week!

  12. Yes it is. And I almost died when I lost the TWO of them in one week. However, I feel so blessed that I found this new one so quickly and at a great price.

I've always owned HP's and found them to be reliable and of good quality, especially their printers. I had one printer for over 8 years.

    Don't ya love Google Chrome?

I'm happy that I've gotten to the point where I enjoy Windows 10 because when I first got it I thought, "OMG...I'm gonna hate this."

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have an AWESOME rest of your week!

" You know about my computer woes, which I think--please God!--are fixed now."

Yes, in fact, when I read your post a few weeks ago I TOTALLY understood what you were going through because I had just lost TWO of my own.

"You feel so helpless without the damn things, and you pretty much are, given how the world is all connected. I feel like doing the Peter Pan/Tinkerbell schtick and asking people to clap and keep my computer alive!"

Hahahahahahaha! OMG...I loved that! And you're right, we feel so helpless without the damn things because it feels as if we've been cut off from the world.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a SUPER week and I hope all is going well with your job search. Keep the faith.

  14. Thank you, Debbie!

" Wow, and getting just what you want -- on sale -- is a real bonus!"

Yes, it most certain is!!! I had seen it online first, but then went to a store to see it in person. I loved it the second I spotted it. I had originally thought of getting just a laptop computer, but when I saw this all-in-one, I couldn't resist.

"Isn't it funny how computers used to be a luxury, when now they're a necessity? I mean, our LIVES are on those machines and no way are we content to live in a cave when there's so much going on in the world! "

OMG...you are soooooooo right about that. Way back when they first came out, not everyone had them. However, over the years it's become a necessity because everything is done ONLINE, you simply have to have one.

Edge is weird, isn't it? I'm a huge Google Chrome lover, so I instantly installed it. In fact, before I even purchased the computer I asked one of the sales people if he was absolutely sure that Windows 10 was compatible with Chrome.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a super-duper weekend!

  15. Ron, it's amazing how dependent we've become on computers that when we don't have one, we freak. Not only when it comes to our job, but also in our personal life. It's a computer world. Even my grandparents who are in their 80's know how to use a computer.

I have a Mac laptop that was given to me by work for my job, but I have an HP computer at home. To be honest, if I hadn't been given the one for work, I would be perfectly content with not owning a Mac.

LOVE your new computer. It's beautiful! Glad you found what you wanted AND on sale!!!!

Have a wonderful weekend, Ron x

  16. Wow, what a nice looking computer, Ron! Very sharp! And congrats on finding it ON SALE. Doesn't it make you so happy when you find something that want on sale?

My husband and I have two computers at home. One is a Dell, the other is a Toshiba. We've had good luck with both of them. We have contemplated getting an Apple because people seem to rave about the brand, but are too cheap to fork out the money. LOL

Loved the sound effects. Very funny!

Have fun with your new toy, and have a great weekend! Can you believe it's already September? I can't wait until the Autumn weather arrives, I'm over the summer heat. It's been awful, hasn't it?

Amen.... you are sooooooooo right about that! One day last week, I saw a woman pushing a stroller with her 3-year old son who was holding a Mac Tablet and so intent on using it. I was amazed that this child knew how to work a tablet. Blew me away!!!

I've gone back and forth on getting a Mac computer, but haven't yet took the plunge. I like them a lot, however, not enough to make the purchase. Perhaps one day I will.

Thank you. I love my new computer!

Hope you're having a fab week, girl. Enjoy your weekend!!!

  18. Hello there Elaine!

"Doesn't it make you so happy when you find something that you want on sale?"

OMG.....yes, it sure does! And I was so lucky to have gotten it on sale the day before the sale expired. Whew! I bought it while on my lunch hour one day and then carried it home that night. And it was surprisingly very light-weight.

"We have contemplated getting an Apple because people seem to rave about the brand, but are too cheap to fork out the money. LOL"

I hear you because I'm the same way. I would like to get one, but not ready to spend the money. Besides, I really like my HP's!

I know, can you BELIEVE it's already Sept?? And I so happy because I can't wait for FALL! I was in Starbucks yesterday and they had their Fall coffee's and tea's displayed on the counter. I am over the summer heat as well. Bring on the COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ron, I love your new setup! That is one nice looking computer. My girlfriend is big on Mac's because she's a web/graphic designer so we Mac everything - iMac, iPad, iPhone. But before she and I met, I bought HP's. I still have a laptop from HP, which I bought eons ago and it still works. It's got Windows XP on it.

Good luck with your new computer, dude!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hiya Matt!

Thank you, buddy! I am SO LOVING this new computer!

Yes, I had a feeling that you and your girlfriend were Mac users because you had mentioned to me a few times in your comments that she was a graphic designer and most designers are HUGE fans of Mac!

" I still have a laptop from HP, which I bought eons ago and it still works. It's got Windows XP on it."

OMG....you STILL have Windows XP?!?!? That's amazing. I never owned a computer with XP but I heard that it was an awesome software. I had Vista for awhile and HATED it. Boy, was I ever happy to get rid of THAT computer.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a most excellent weekend!

  25. Ron, ironically I recently purchased a new computer (laptop) because my previous one had also suddenly died. I can't complain though because I had it for over 7 years. It was a Dell, but I switched over to Lenovo and really like it. I know what you mean about Windows 10 because it took some getting used to. I agree, the browser it came with, Edge, is dreadfully slow.

Glad to hear you found a new computer and got it on sale. It's a beaut!

Have a great Labor Day weekend!

  26. Hey ho Robert!

    OMG...you too?!?

"I can't complain though because I had it for over 7 years. "

Yes, I felt the same way about losing my computer as well. I had my desktop for six years and my laptop for EIGHT, so I can't complain.

I've seen the Lenovo brand before in various stores and always like how thin and sleek their laptops were.

"I agree, Edge is dreadfully slow."

That's why I immediately installed Chrome. I still have Edge installed, but I much prefer Chrome.

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a great Labor Day weekend!

  27. Ron, can you believe how crowded the city is the weekend with the Made In America going on? I know it must be even more crowed where you live because you're right in the heart of the city.

Have a Happy Labor Day tomorrow, Ron!

  28. OMG Elaine, it's been INSANELY crowded! It started last night and has gotten progressively more crowded all day today. I have off today, so I went to Trader Joe's, which is on the other side of town (where the Made In America) is going on, and their were people EVERYWHERE.

It's like it was during the Democratic Convention last month.

    OY VEY.

Have a Happy Labor Day too!

  29. My sincerest condolences on the loss of not one, but two, companions who were near and dear to your heart, Ron. I hope you take solace in the fact that both are probably whooping it up in Computer Heaven right now, where the floppy discs are paved with gold and choirs of angels are digitally serenading them.

Your new HP looks beautiful, too. Very Apple-like, as a matter of fact. That's a compliment! May the two of you enjoy a long and fruitful life together.

  31. Hi Ron, is it me or you? I keep trying to open your last post which is heralded as being about New York but it won't open. I keep getting this one about the computers. Thought I should let you know, my friend.

  32. Good morning Valerie!

Thanks so much for stopping. No, it's not you. Last night I decided to add a new "category" to my list of posts (I added the category "New York City"). I had to go through and manually add the new category name to all the posts on my blog that had to do with New York City. And in doing so, I accidentally "republished" that previously published post you saw about New York. I immediately realized what had happened, so I deleted it. However, it went through as a newly published post.

Sorry for the confusion, my friend. Have a faaaaaaabulous Monday!
