Post updates by email:

Let me start by saying that although my sun sign is Libra, my rising sign is Virgo. And if you know anything about astrology, you know that both Libra and Virgo are very particular when it comes to organization and cleanliness.

And to make matters worse, my moon sign is Aries, which also carries with it a personality trait that can be very exacting about having things orderly and spotlessly clean.

Therefore, between having planets in Libra, Virgo, and Aries, I am OCD when it come to cleanliness.

And so much so that I clean my bathroom twice a week, I clean my computer keyboard with a Q-tip sprayed with Mr. Clean Clean Freak twice a month, and I shower twice a day.

(have you noticed how I do things twice?)

Anyway, the reason I'm sharing this with you is because Hollywood icon, Joan Crawford, was an Aries and had an obsession with cleanliness. And if you have ever seen the movie, Mommie Dearest, you got a very clear picture of just how obsessed she was when it came to dirt.

Yes, dirt to Joan Crawford was literally a dirty word.

Here is the real Joan Crawford cleaning...

Here are some images from the movie in which Faye Dunaway brilliantly portrayed Joan Crawford.

Joan washing her face in the morning, using a bowl of ice cubes and witch hazel to close her pores...

Crawford scrubbing her elbows with a bar of soap and a brush.

Notice the smaller brush to the left (next to the faucet), which she used to clean her finger nails. She used brushes to clean herself in the morning before she took a shower...

This next image was from a moment in the film when her then boyfriend came over one afternoon and they showered together before they did the "nasty."

Don't you love how she's still wearing her lipstick?

Hollywood Royalty...

Now mind you, as much as I am a freak about cleanliness, I'm not quite as dramatically reactive as Joan Crawford was whenever she spotted a thin layer of dust on the coffee table.

Close. But not quite. LOL!

Which leads me to the point of this post, my smartphone screen.

Do you know how throughout the day your smartphone screen gets dirty with finger prints, or oil from your face, and sometimes food smudges from your hands when you're eating lunch and texting or surfing the web at the same time?

Oh my god...that drives me insane. I can't stand a dirty screen.

So, do you know what I do to counter that issue?

I carry this nifty little screen cleaning towel that immediately removes finger prints and any kind of residue from the glass screen of my phone. I also use it on my computer monitor. I LOVE this thing. And it's even got the face of a big kitty cat on it...

Look how bright and shiny my smartphone screen is.
Not a fingerprint in sight.
Now that's what I call, CLEAN...

So I admit it, I turn into Joan Crawford when it comes to my smartphone screen...

I leave you with a short clip from "Mommie Dearest" in which Joan goes off on Helga (her maid) because she forgot to move the tree when she polished the floor...

Wishing you a dearest week, everyone!

  1. Oh my god, Ron, this post is hilarious! Not only am I laughing at the way you describe things, but I'm also laughing because I'm a Virgo and am OCD about cleanliness and organization. LOL! I saw Mommie Dearest many years ago and was horrified by the "No wire hangers" scene. I also read the book, which went into much more detail about their relationship and Joan's personal life.

Where did you get that nifty screen cleaner because I'm thinking of getting one?

That photo of you as Joan with young Christina is priceless! Thank you for the early morning laugh.

  3. I think I’m more of a neat freak than a cleaner, but I do like everything to be clean. I’m pickiest about my floors. No crumbs, please! I do hate smudges on screens and also use a cloth. My pet peeve are people with dirty glasses! Omg, that grosses me out. How do they stand it?

Interesting about the 2 showers a day. I only do that on vacations due to activities and dinners. Or if it’s dreadfully hot. Hope your week is grand.

  4. P.S. I’ve never watched that movie. For a long time, I thought it was a horror film. Lol!

  5. Ron, you make a GREAT Mommie Dearest! You've hit on something else that we share in common -- our desire for cleanliness! You know I'm a Virgo and am passionate about cleanliness ... and order. I think mine is exacerbated because my mom majored in bacteriology, so I've always been a tad obsessive about germs and such. Lysol is my best buddy in cold and flu season (and now with the COVID-19 floating around, I'm having such trouble keeping it on hand, grr!)

Where did you find that handy-dandy screen cloth for your phone? You need to tell me because that's something I'd love to have. I suppose those eyeglass-cleaning cloths would do the same thing, wouldn't they -- but they don't usually have a neat picture on the front!)

    Enjoy the week ahead! xx

  6. "My pet peeve are people with dirty glasses! Omg, that grosses me out. How do they stand it?"

YES! YES! YES! Me too! And it's so funny you mentioned that because I used to work with a woman who used reading glasses to read and also look at the computer. I also use reading glasses, so very often she would ask to borrow mine because she left them somewhere, which I gladly did. However, one day I picked up her reading glasses while she was at lunch because I forgot where I left mine. OH. MY. GOD....they were FILTHY! I quickly took a tissue with some Windex and wiped them clean. When she got back and went to put on her glasses she said, "Did you clean my glasses?" I'm like, "Yes! How do you ever see out of those things!?!?"

Funny you also mentioned "floors" because I just vacuumed and wet mopped my hardwood floors. I do that every Monday!

"Interesting about the 2 showers a day. I only do that on vacations due to activities and dinners. Or if it’s dreadfully hot."

Two things: I sweat very heavily (winter, spring, summer, and fall), so I have too. I also like to take two showers because the one in the morning wakes me up, and the one at night relaxes me. And you're not going to believe this but in the summer when it's really, really hot and humid? I take THREE showers on the days that I'm off.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have GRAND week too!

  8. Good morning Candice!

OMG, you're a Virgo?!?! It's so funny because even though my sun sign is Libra, I've had so many people after knowing me if I was a Virgo. I used to cut this guys hair who was a professional astrologer and even HE thought I was a Virgo because of the way I cut his hair. He actually did my astrology chart (for free) and told me that my rising was Virgo, so that's why he initially thought I was.

I got that screen cloth at a camera store. I got it for my camera lens, but I ended up using it more for my smartphone screen and computer monitor because it works so well on so many surfaces.

Thanks. I made that photo on a website called, Face In Hole. It's so much fun!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, and have a faaaaaaaaabulous week!

  9. Thank you, Debbie! HA! I made that little photo on a photo editing website called, Face In Hole. It's such a fun website because all you have to do is upload your photo to a photograph on their website and Viola!

"You know I'm a Virgo and am passionate about cleanliness ... and order. I think mine is exacerbated because my mom majored in bacteriology, so I've always been a tad obsessive about germs and such."

HA! Yes....I knew you were a Virgo!!! It's funny because I once had an astrologer (who was a client of mine) assume that my sun sign was Virgo because he told me that the way I cut his hair was so detailed and precise. He ended up doing my astrology chart (for free) and that's when he told me that he KNEW I had Virgo in me, which was my rising sign.

"I suppose those eyeglass-cleaning cloths would do the same thing, wouldn't they -- but they don't usually have a neat picture on the front!)"

Yes, you're right those clothes do the same thing. I got mine at camera store to used on my camera lens, so it's technically made for a lens. However, I've seen them in Target in the area where they sell cell phone cases. They actually do sell them for smartphone screens, but I honestly think they're all the same thing.

Thanks much for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaaaaabulous week!

  10. Ron, I just started back at work today and one of my coworkers heard me laughing and asked why. I hope you don't mind but I shared your post with her, and she LAUGHED too! You are so damn funny! There are so many things I love about this post, but the Joan Crawford doll and that last photo of you as Joan is HYSTERICAL! How did you do that because your face fits it perfectly. And I love that you kept your beard.

I'm very anal about cleanliness too. That's one of the reasons I live alone. I used to have a roommate but never again. I know I'm picky, but so many people are slobs! My main thing about cleaning is doing the dishes after I eat. I can't stand dirty dishes left in the sink. I also like a clean bathroom as well.

Ron, thank you so much for the giggles this morning. Have wonderful week, Mommie Dearest! X

  11. And I thought Tara was obsessed with cleanliness. She's a one-shower-a-day amateur compared to you, my friend!

Good job on the smartphone screen, though. My phone and laptop are always smudged. I think I need to develop some of your good habits (or invest in a big ol' jug of Mr. Clean Clean Freak).

    Have a groovy, sparkling week!

  12. Hola Denise!

Glad you had a laugh! No, of course I don't mind that you shared it with your coworker. The more the merrier! LOL!

Isn't the dolls AMAZING? I found that picture online while googling "joan crawford cleaning" and it just popped up. It actually looks like her too! I made that photo on a free photo edited website called, Face In Hole. I got lucky with the photo because I was able to place my own face and tweak it a bit to get it to fit perfectly. Sometimes that doesn't happen. It all depends on the photo template.

"My main thing about cleaning is doing the dishes after I eat. I can't stand dirty dishes left in the sink."

OMG...YES! I clean the dished immediately finishing my meal. In fact, sometimes I'll even start to do them before I sit down to eat so it's less for me to do after. I can't dirty dishes being left because it not only looks horrible, but dirty dishes attracts bugs.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Have a faaaaaaabulous week!

  13. Mark, please tell Tara that I know EXACTLY how she feels about cleanliness. HA!

I sweat a lot, so I need to shower twice a day. Besides, I love a shower in the morning to wake me up for the day, and then I love taking one at night because it relaxes me. Also, I can't stand getting into bed dirty from the day. Yeah, I know...I'm OCD. LOL!

OMG...you will LOVE Mr. Clean Clean Freak! I get mine at Target! It's multipurpose too!

Much thanks for stopping by, my friend. Have a dazzling week!

    X to you and Tara

  14. Wow, Ron, remind me to never offer YOU a wire hanger!

I love the screen towel and I want to get one of my own. But can I get one with your picture on it?

I wish I had a fraction of your obsession about organization. I do try and keep my place clean, but there is too much stuff around here and no place to put it.

Maybe I should hire you to clean my apartment...but only if you dress like Joan Crawford!

    Great post, buddy! Take care!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Rob, you're first sentence was a HOOT! But do you know what's funny? A few years ago when I was at work, I took a wire hanger off the coat rack in our break room and ran around the stock room screaming, "NO WIRE HANGERS....EVER!!!!!"

Yes, when I eventually make my own screen towel, I send you one!

" I do try and keep my place clean, but there is too much stuff around here and no place to put it."

That's why I like living in small space because I can't collect things and I have to make sure everything is organized so that I keep the space.

Hey, you just gave me a great idea! Maybe I should start my own cleaning business and call it, "Crawfords Cleaners" HA!

Thanks so much for stopping by, buddy. Have a most excellent week!

  16. Ron, you are not alone in being what you call a "clean freak. " By the number of household cleaning supplies that are sold out in local stores, there are lots of others. I have not been able to find a single shower cleaner spray in two local grocery stores the past 2 weeks, so there must be a lot of OCD shower cleaners around. You had some great tips on cleaning screens and keyboards, which I confess to not doing daily, but several times a week. A Q-tip dipped in alcohol (not the drinking kind) is great for cleaning between the keyboard keys as it evaporates quickly. I also use a microfiber cloth for my desktop PC screen especially with pollen season and our always open windows. I had read about Ms. Crawford's obsession with cleanliness and she would definitely freak out during pollen season.

I'm a 1-shower a day person, and depending on the day or reason will alternate between mornings and evenings.

  17. Hey there D!

    "I have not been able to find a single shower cleaner spray in two local grocery stores the past 2 weeks, so there must be a lot of OCD shower cleaners around;

HA! That made me laugh out loud. At least I'm not alone, right?

"A Q-tip dipped in alcohol (not the drinking kind) is great for cleaning between the keyboard keys as it evaporates quickly."

Yes, I used to use alcohol (not the drinking kind) as well, which that works very well. It's just that I picked up spray bottle of Mr. Clean for my bathroom and decided to try it on the keyboard and it worked really well. Plus, I love the scent...citrus.

And you know, you're are so right about the pollen. OMG...one day when I was outside sitting in the park, I looked down at my smartphone screen and it was covered in yellow dust!

I think most people take only 1 shower a day. However, not only do I take two to clean myself, but I also love how it wakes me up in the morning and relaxes me at night.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Hope you're having a faaaaaaaabulous week so far! The weather here has been gorgeous. It feels more like spring than summer.

  18. Ron, I always share your posts with my girlfriend because she enjoys your posts as much as I do. The two of us laughed our asses off at that picture of you as Joan Crawford. OMG, that's so damn funny. I'm more of the clean freak between the two of us. I'm very picky about certain things. I take two showers a day too. I can't stand feeling sweaty or dirty. I'm really OCD about that. My girlfriend always kids me about how I spend so much time in the shower. And I have a certain bar of soap I like to use as well.

You taught me something because I don't know a lot about astrology, but I'm an Aries, so that must be where I get the cleanliness trait.

Your smartphone screen is so clean! I may need to get me one of those towels. What kind of phone do you have, I like the way it looks.

Thanks for laughs and the education, dude!

  19. I do the same thing, Ron! I like to clean the dishes as I cook because it makes it so much easier and faster than doing them all at once. I forgot to mention in my first comment that I also make my bed every morning because I can't stand coming home from work and seeing my bed a mess. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  20. HA! Denise, I make my bed every morning too! I live in a small studio apartment, so if the bed is messy it makes the whole apartment look messy. Besides, it only takes me two second to make the bed. I do it while I'm brewing the coffee.

  21. Hiya Matt!

" I'm more of the clean freak between the two of us. I'm very picky about certain things."
It's funny because I know of so many men like that. Even my father was very particular about things - his clothes, his polished shoes, and his hair. My father always blow dried and styled his hair BEFORE he went to bed at night, I kid you not!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who takes two showers a day. That's the way I raised as a kid, so I guess that's why. Both my mother and father took two showers a day as well. Although, my mother loved to take a bath at night to relax. And I have to say, I too love a nice hot bath in the winter. I too use a certain bar of soap. I use an soap-free oatmeal soap from Trader Joe's. You get two bars for like $1.65. And they smell just like oatmeal.

I have an android phone from ZTE. It's was a very inexpensive phone. I think I paid $88.00 for it. And I've had it for almost three years now and it still works great and looks like new.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Hope you're having a fantabulous week!

  24. Ron, I specifically recall when this movie came out and going to see it with two of my girlfriends. We had each read the book, so we were anxious to see the film. The book and the film are different in different ways. I loved both the book and the movie. Dunaway was incredible in the role! Yet, she avoids talking about it in interviews because she didn't like how the film depicted Joan.

You are so funny! I laughed so hard at the photo of you as Mommie Dearest!!! I think you make a beautiful Miss Crawford.

I'm a clean freak as well. And I was so lucky to marry a man who was also a clean freak. He's so organized, I never have to straighten up after him. He also likes to cook, so we shared our meals.

Thank you for your sense of humor, Ron. You always put so much into your posts.

    Have a great weekend xo

  25. Hey there Elaine!

OMG, I too read the book before seeing the movie and enjoyed them both for different reasons. The book revealed things that the movie didn't. But I LOVED the movie because Faye Dunaway was brilliant. And I also thought the attention to "visual' detail was amazing! Yes, she does not like to talk about the film, which I think is so sad because she was so good. She acts almost embarrassed by it. I don't know if I ever told you this, but I went to acting school with the girl (Diana Scarwid) who portrayed the older Christina. It was her first film after graduating the Academy. I remember seeing her in plays while we were in school and thinking, "The girl is going to make it!" And she did.

"I'm a clean freak as well. And I was so lucky to marry a man who was also a clean freak. He's so organized, I never have to straighten up after him. He also likes to cook, so we shared our meals."

Oh how awesome! Lucky you! And lucky him, as well!

Thanks so much for stopping by, neighbor. Hope you're enjoying a fabulous weekend!

  26. Had a good laugh at this one! I've seen Mommie Dearest quite a few times! Sooo good! As for astrology... Sag sun, Cancer moon, Cap rising. I don't know what any of it should mean with regard to cleaning/organizing but I can tell you that I don't do any of it regularly. Sag I think is eclectic... since I can't do a lot of traveling and going on adventures, maybe my space needs to have a lot of stuff to make me think I'm wandering around the world. Whenever I'm taking photos of things that I'll be posting... yes, I clean up, make it all nice. Three hours later, stuff is out of place again. When we moved in here, dust thought it was invited too, and has never left no matter how I try. So I stopped trying so hard and took up resting. ;) Cancer wants comfort so there has to be extra things, not just 3 candles lit but 14, and a half mug of chai that gets left... somewhere. And don't forget about emotional eating...so there will be crumbs. Ha!
    Hysterical picture!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. HA! I couldn't resist making that photo! And it's funny because for some reason, my face fit inside the image so well. Just call me, "Ronnie Dearest."

As far as astrology goes, I think Virgo, Aries, and Libra are the signs that dominate the OCD cleaning gene! LOL! I had a really close friend in Florida who's sun sign was Cap and she was a clean freak as well. But I don't know what all her other planets were in.

"I think is eclectic... since I can't do a lot of traveling and going on adventures, maybe my space needs to have a lot of stuff to make me think I'm wandering around the world."

You know, that is so cool because it makes sense. I mean, if you can't do a lot of traveling, the next best thing would be having things around you that allow you to "feel" as though you've traveled.

I think it's probably easier for me (living alone) to keep my space clean and organized because it's only me. Besides, my apartment is so small that I can't collect things or it would be way too cluttered.

And you're right, Cancers what comfort in their homes. To them, a home that feels comfy is very important.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Mary! Have a grrrrreat weekend!

  28. Okay, first - although I know my sign (Libra, of course!) I have zero idea bout my rising sign or moon sign. Or even what that means.

But I can say I'm not particularly obsessive about cleaning. Medium, I'd guess. I do have a couple of those screen cloths that were actually made for glasses, but I hate having smudges on my screen.

You know, I've never seen that movie. I have a feeling I'd find it disturbing!

    ReplyDelete
  29. What your rising and moon sign pertain to are the different planets that your astrology chart maps out. You can find out by knowing your date, time, and birthplace when you were born. You can then find out your other planets. Basically, your rising sign pertains to your personality and how you're perceived by others. Which is funny because although I'm a Libra, many people think I'm a Virgo, which is my rising sign. Your moon sign pertains to your emotions and how you express your feelings.

As you know, my mother was also a Libra and she was very fastidious when it came to cleaning. But again, that could also be because of where her other planets were. My father too was a Libra and was also very particular about things.

"I hate having smudges on my screen."

OMG....isn't that irritating? That's why I carry a screen cloth.

Yes, Mommie Dearest was disturbing in many ways; especially the book, which was much more detailed. And I believe Christina because other actors and actresses of that time who I've seen interviewed after the book came out also said the Joan Crawford was severely critical and abusive because they witnessed it. The movie is also very campy, which is why so many gay men love it. LOL!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend!
