Post updates by email:

As many of you already know, green is my favorite color.

And as many of you also know, every year at this time I like to share a post on all things green.

Personally, color has a strong effect on me. There are certain colors that make me feeling really good, and yet there are other colors that either do nothing for me, or make me feel anxious. I'm not one for a lot of bright colors in my home or when it comes to my clothing because it feels like color overload. I don't like colors to jump out at me. I prefer them to be subliminal, particularly in my personal space. However, I do get enjoyment from seeing other people use bright colors in their homes and clothing, even though it's not for me.

Here's an example of colors I prefer to live around in my space:

And when it comes to clothing, I pretty much always wear basic black; particularly next to my face. I do own a few jackets that are green and whenever I wear them, people comment how nice the color looks on me. But they are a deep green. I don't look good in pastel colors because they fade me out. I need a contrast next to my skin and eyes. I also have a few shirts in blue. They are a slate blue (a dark, grayish blue).

Like this:

Anyway, let's talk about green because it's a color that makes me feel all sorts of wonderfulness; either wearing it or just looking at it.

About Green:

Green is the color of balance. It also means learning, growth, renewal, and harmony. Green is the color of nature. It brings peace and harmony into our lives. It is the color of healing and hope, optimism, freedom, and balance.

I took these photographs over a period of about two weeks in various locations -- some here in the city, some outside the city.

Please enjoy some GREEN...

I had this for lunch one day--English cucumber, corn, spring mix, kosher dill pickles, alfalfa spouts and hummus, on toasted multigrain rustic bread, topped with a carrot/ginger dressing. It was BEYOND delicious!

My fresh basil plant. Isn't it beautiful? Go ahead, it's a scratch n' sniff photo...

However, this is what that beautiful basil plant looked like only two days later...

And then this is what it looked like only five days later...

So you see, in as much as I LOVE the color green, I don't have a green thumb when it comes to caring for plants.

No, I actually have a crossbones and skull thumb, because I'm a plant MURDERER...

*note: I've been known to kill silk flowers.

Moving on...

Birch tree leaves...

Okay, and I also have to share the PRICE TAG that was on the base of the birch tree above. Please scroll down to the next photo...

...$189.00?!?!

Excuse me, but I could buy a whole FOREST for $189.00!

Moving on...

Wishing you a green-filled week, everyone! 💚

*Please feel free to share your favorite color(s) in your comment.

  3. Ok, what the heck happened with the basil??? It’s very easy to grow and maintain. I won’t be asking you to babysit my orchids! Lol! Those are lovely photos of Spring greenery and isn’t that fence cute? What a yummy meal.I like everything you mentioned on there except the sprouts.

My favorite color is a deep purple, like aubergine. I love the jewel tones. Hope you are having a great, green Spring! XO

  4. " I won’t be asking you to babysit my orchids! Lol!"

    HA!

OMG, I have no idea what happened with that basil plant?!? I purchased it at Trader Joe's last week and when I got it home the directions said to water it once a week and keep it in bright sunlight, which I did. The soil felt very dry, so I lightly watered it (as the instructions said), and then a few days later it started to wilt. And then eventually keeled over (as you can see in the final photo). I think I got two uses out of the leaves (I made a salad with it, and then one night I made pasta). I felt so bad when it died. I actually had a funeral LOL!

Yes, I know, sprouts are one of those things that people either love or hate.

LOVE aubergine! Gorgeous color! I have a tendency to like darker, deeper color, like aubergine.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a fabulous rest of your week!

  5. Ron, I literally busted out laughing at "No, I actually have a crossbones and skull thumb, because I'm a plant MURDERER..." LOL! Oh my god, that (and the cartoon) were so damn funny! And don't feel bad, I don't have a greet thumb either. I love and appreciate plants and flowers, but I don't have any talent for keeping them alive. I either overwater them or underwater them.

Gorgeous photos of GREEN! I like green as well. And I also blue (like the one you shared). Pastels I enjoy in my home, but not for clothing. I wear a lot of earth tones.

And speaking of color, do you remember the Color Me Beautiful books and how there were four seasons of color? I had my colors done by a specialist and discovered that I was an Autumn.

    Fun post, Ron!

  6. Hey there Candice!

Isn't that cartoon freaking hysterical? I spotted it online and just had to use it. And I'm relieved to know that I'm not the only one who has a talent for murdering plants. LOL! I do the same thing, I either over water them or under water them. It's like I have no concept of how to care for flowers or plants, yet, like you, I have such an appreciation for them.

"And speaking of color, do you remember the Color Me Beautiful books and how there were four seasons of color? I had my colors done by a specialist and discovered that I was an Autumn."

Yes! Yes! Yes! I certainly do remember "Color Me Beautiful" because back in the late 80's, I made an appointment with a woman who was color specialist for CMB and had my colors done. I actually learned a lot from her because I was always drawn to earth tones (browns, rusts, beige, etc), so I just assumed I was either a Fall or a Spring. WRONG! I ended up being a Summer, which was so odd to me because I hate Summer. But I quickly realized she was correct because when she began draping me in Spring color and tones, my face suddenly lite up. I look best in cool colors, rather than warm. However, I like warm tones in my apartment because they seem to ground me.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Happy Wednesday!

Such gorgeous green photos! I'm sad about the Basil plant, I too am a plant murderer *sigh* in fact you use the same line I do about being able to kill silk plants lol. Enjoy the rest of the week Ron!

  8. I so look forward to your GREEN post, Ron -- it's my favorite color, too! And, with all the rain we've had this Spring, everything is incredibly green right now. The lawn looks like an emerald!
Oh, dear. I'm so sorry about your Basil. You must have done something it didn't like -- probably too much or too little water, or maybe too much or too little sunlight. Those are the chief complaints plants have when it comes to their care. Unless, of course, it got BUGS!
That's a LOT of money for one tree. I suppose things are especially high right now because of the supply-distribution chain issues. Suffice it to say, I wouldn't be forking over that kind of cash for one tree. Can you imagine how you'd feel if it died?!?
    Happy Wednesday! xx

  9. Ron, I really like you put into words how I feel about color. I too like colors to be subliminal, especially in my apartment. The colors you gave as an example is to my liking. My clothing is pretty basic. I wear a lot of blue shades. I also like burgundy.

You green photographs are really beautiful. You have such a great eye for the camera. I had to laugh at your thumb remark when it comes to plant care. Very funny!

Thanks for being so entertaining and interesting at the same time!

  10. Thank you, Martha! I know, can you believe that I had that basil plant for less than a week and I KILLED it? However, I went to Trader Joe's this morning to do my grocery shopping (which is where I got the basil plant last week) and I told the cashier about my experience with it, and do you know what he did? I actually gave me another basil plant for FREE! He said that perhaps it was a bad plant, so he wanted to give me another one to see if it happens again. Wasn't that nice of him?

Happy to hear that I'm not the only one who kills silk plants LOL!

Always a pleasure to see you comments. Thanks so much for stopping by, and enjoy the rest of your week!

  11. Yes, that's right, Debbie, I forgot...green is your favorite color too! Isn't it such a great color? It makes feel good.

Happy to hear that you're having a green Spring! Us too. And not only here in the city, but I went out to the burbs last week and the all the lush green was such a joy to see.

"You must have done something it didn't like -- probably too much or too little water, or maybe too much or too little sunlight. Those are the chief complaints plants have when it comes to their care. Unless, of course, it got BUGS!"

You know, I never even thought about BUGS?!? I was so upset to watch it die over a period of only five days.

Yes, I thought that price was a LOT for that tree as well! I thought I had read it wrong, but when I looked closer, I saw that yes...it was $189.00!!! Me too, there is no way I would fork over that much money for a tree. Especially with my DEATH thumb. LOL!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Happy Wednesday to you too!

  12. Hey there Daniel!

Me too. I'm pretty basic when it comes to most things. I don't thinking about what color clothing I want to wear everyday, so if most of my clothing is black, I don't even have to think about it. And to me, black always looks good.

Thank you for your kind words. I love taking pictures. I'm a self-taught photographer. I enjoy learning as I do it.

    Isn't that cartoon hilarious? LOL!

Always nice to see your comments, my friend. Thank you for taking the time to stop by! Have a super week!

  13. Ron, I could bearely keep it together this morning when I read your post at work and saw the cartoon and your crossbones and thumb reference. Freaking hysterical! Everyone heard me laughing at my desk and asked me why I was laughing so hard. I showed them. They laughed too!

Gorgeous green photos! And your meal looked and sounded to yummy. You eat so healthy! Don't you just love English cucumbers?

Cute pic of Kermit. The perfect way to end this post!

Thank you for making me laugh today, Ron. I needed it. xo

  14. Hola Denise!

Glad you had a laugh! The second I spotted that cartoon online, I knew I wanted to use it for this post. I found it when I google "I have a black thumb."

Yes! And I only just discovered English cucumber. I had seen them at Trader Joe's in the produce section for years, but never got one. About a month ago, I decide to try one and fell in love. I usually get a pack of Persian cucumbers, which I love, however, you have to use them very quickly or they get soft and mushy. English cucumbers last so much longer. I even like them better than a regular cucumber.

Thanks so much for stopping by, girl. Happy Wednesday!

  15. Whenever I ask anyone about Color Me Beautiful, they almost always don't know what the hell I'm talking about. I'm glad YOU know what it is and had it done. I really didn't but much stock into it before I went, but during the session I could really see the difference between to warm tones and the cool tones. Funny that you're a summer and you don't like that season!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Me too, Candice, I was kind of skeptical at first. But then as she draped the silver and the gold clothes around my neck, I could definitely see that silver was much more complimentary to my skin, whereas the gold did nothing, which meant that I was cool, but a summer cool, not a winter cool.

I know, I am so not a summer person!

  17. I've been known to kill silk flowers. LOL! I completely understand! I don't have a lot of live plants in my house either. I don't think it's a coincidence that green is the color of nature. I love your color palette. I'm gravitating towards blues and purples now. I do like a pop of color though. When the "seasons" fad was all the rage, I did a color analysis and I'm an "early autumn." Not surprised. 😃 With all the rain we've been having ev.ery.thing. around here is green!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ron, I really like your color palette, both your selection for home decor and the slate blue swatch. I LOVE that shade of blue! I'm also a lot like you in that I wear a lot of black, and that's because black goes with everything and it always looks classy. It can be casual, but also dressy. I also think black is slimming, so I wear it to make me look thinner LOL!

You green photos are gorgeous! The color you captured in each image is completely different from the next. And I'm with you about the $189.00 price tag. Holy cow....there is no WAY I would spend that kind of money on a tree. Like you said, I could buy a whole forest or a small country for that.

That final photo is so cool-looking. I like how you caught the shadows.

  19. "No, I actually have a crossbones and skull thumb, because I'm a plant MURDERER...*note: I've been known to kill silk flowers." ROFLMAO! Ron, that was so damn funny! And I hear you, dude, I've got the same thumb. I kill everything. Now, my girlfriend is just the opposite, she has such a knack for plants. They thrive in her presence. And she gets that from her mom because she's the same. We have an area on our patio with potted plants. We also have an herb garden. I showed her the picture of your basil plant and she looked at it in horror LOL!

Fantastic pictures! You have such a talent with a camera, so it makes up for your plant talent.

    Thanks for the laughs, dude!

  20. "I completely understand! I don't have a lot of live plants in my house either"

You too, Lisa? I'm surprised to hear that because for some reason I thought you had such a gift for plants and flowers. I guess I assumed that because of all the gorgeous flower photos you post on your blog.

Yup...I don't think it's a coincidence that nature is green too. It's so calming, so healing, so grounding. Green makes me feel so good.

Blues and purples are awesome colors!

"When the "seasons" fad was all the rage, I did a color analysis and I'm an "early autumn." Not surprised. 😃 "

That's faaaaaaaaaabulous! And yes, I'm not surprised that you're an autumn because I know how much you love that season! I had my colors done too, and ended up being a Summer, which I find hysterical since Summer is my least favorite season. Oh well, I have to admit, the Summer CMB palette does compliment my skin and eyes.

We've had a lot of rain as well. And it's been extremely hot and humid. :(

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend! Hope you're having a colorful week!

  21. Hey there Clair!

Isn't that shade of blue FAB? I found that swatch online when I googled "slate blue", and that's exactly what my blue shirts look like. I love the color.

"I wear a lot of black, and that's because black goes with everything and it always looks classy. It can be casual, but also dressy."

I love how you said that because that's how I feel about black. My passion for wearing black came from my 6 years employed by Chanel because we were required to wear black when we worked. They provided use with a black vest, a Chanel tie, and a gold Chanel pin. We had to provide black slacks and dress shirt.

I know...can you believe the price tag on that tree!?!? HA! Yes, you could buy a small country for that price!

Thank you for your kind words and for stopping by, Clair. Always nice to see your comments. Have a great rest of your week!

  22. Hiya Matt!

When I saw that cartoon online, I grabbed it because it was flawless. And it's also a perfect image of my thumb, when it comes to plants, I MURDER them! HA!

"We also have an herb garden. I showed her the picture of your basil plant and she looked at it in horror LOL!"

OMG, I'm sure she was appalled by the look of that basil plant. It looks like I set on fire and then put it out with a bucket of water. Please tell her that I'm sorry, and that I am so envious of her gift with plants.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have an AWESOME rest of your week! I can't believe it's almost FRIDAY already/ Where did this week go!?!

  23. This was an interesting post, once again, Ron, and you obviously know which colors work best for you both in terms of clothing and surroundings. I am not as certain except to know that I prefer solids to any clothing prints or stripes and lean more towards pastels or bright colors for room paints. Living in an apt home, the walls are all one color and while we could repaint (and would have to repaint back to off white if we moved) we haven't done so, but have put decals, photos and other favorite items on some of the wall space. My personal favorite color is purple and luckily it's also my birthstone, but the color I look best in is red (in my opinion).

Thanks for all the green beauty in this post, except for the poor basil plant. We have one on our windowsill now, but will be away next week so it may be drooping when we return :-( I bought one of those plastic bulb watering thingies and tried it last nite. And within 2 hours the water had drained. We have another solution which may work and in the meantime, I am using as much of the basil as possible before we leave. It was so nice of the guy at Trader Joe to replace yours...must just have been a "bed" one before, but that cartoon would describe my experiences with indoor plants as well.

  24. Hey there D!

"I am not as certain except to know that I prefer solids to any clothing prints or stripes and lean more towards pastels or bright colors for room paints."

You sound a lot like me because I forgot to mention (so thank you for reminding me) that I much prefer solids over prints or stripes. In fact, I don't have one single piece of clothing that is not a solid color.

"Living in an apt home, the walls are all one color and while we could repaint (and would have to repaint back to off white if we moved) we haven't done so..."

Me too! We are permitted to paint the walls any color, however, if we move, we are required to paint it back to white. And because I live in a small studio apartment, I like the white walls because it makes my space feel larger, and more open. I also have four large windows in my apartment, so that makes my place appear larger too.

"My personal favorite color is purple and luckily it's also my birthstone, but the color I look best in is red (in my opinion)."

Purple is such a beautiful color, and it's one that many people feel drawn too. And being your birthstone color, I'm sure it resonates with you. Red is a great color too. It contains LOTS of energy. I love a woman in a red lipstick because it's such a classic!

I know, isn't my basil plant such a sad sight? :( I don't know what the hell I did to it that it died that quickly. And yes, isn't it wonderful about the guy at Trader Joe's replacing my previous purchase? And I didn't even ask him to do it because I feel it was my fault, but he gave it to me anyway. That's why I love Trader Joe's. Such nice people!

Thanks so much for stopping by, D! Have a faaaaaaaabulous weekend! And Happy Memorial Day on Monday! Have a great trip!

  25. Yes, that did it for me too, Ron. The second the Color Me Beautiful rep initially draped the gold and silver swatch next to my face, I immediately saw that the gold looked the best. Thus, making me warm/Autumn.

  26. "Green is the color of balance. It also means learning, growth, renewal, and harmony"

I never heard that description before, Ron, and I love it! Green is the color of life. It's why we long for spring.

And these photos are so beautiful--except when you murdered that poor basil plant. Jesus, what did the basil ever do to you?!

Looks like we'll have to call in Basil Rathbone to investigate!

But seriously, you really displayed your incredible photographic talents in this post. All that greenery is just jumping out of my computer!

Keep up the great work, buddy, but try not to kill Kermit. Otherwise Miss Piggy will karate chop your ass!

    Take care!

And you're so right about Miss Piggy karate chopping my ass if I kill Kermit!!! And wouldn't blame her
