I became interested in the chakra system back in the mid-80s. I honestly can't remember how or why. But what I do know is that the minute I started reading about it, practicing it, and feeling the positive results, I knew it would be something I'd practice for the rest of my life. Which I do.
It's been such a valuable tool that has helped me not only through some pretty rough times in my life, but a practice that has given me a clearer understanding of just how much living my life involves energy, and how I use it.
Even as a small child, I was very sensitive to energy. So when I discovered the chakra system and how it worked, it instantly felt familiar to me.
I can always tell when one or more of my chakras are blocked because I feel it not only as a physical sensation but as a mental/emotional sensation as well. Something feels off. That's when I know I need to go within and do some chakra clearing.
----------------------------------------------
The Chakra System -
The word chakra (pronounced chaa-kruh) is Sanskrit meaning: "wheel" or "vortex" of energy.
Energy is the fuel of life. And it's all around us.
Example: Have you ever walked into a large group of people either at a party or restaurant and instantly felt the "vibe" of the place? Well, that's energy. It may be invisible to the eyes, yet it's very tangible to our energetic system.
Throughout the day, we are bombarded with various energy levels of people who interact with us. This explains why when around certain people we feel really good and others not so good. Have you ever had a feeling about something in your "gut"? That too is energy.
For the most part, we unconsciously absorb energy without ever being discerning. All that energy becomes a part of our own system; either energizing or draining us.
Chakras are the portals through which energy is assimilated. Simply put, chakras are like spinning wheels that absorb, process, and then distribute the energy so that it may be used for the betterment of our health.
The human body has 114 chakras, but only seven of these are considered fundamental chakras. These chakras start at the base of our spine and go all the way to the top of our head. For a balanced person, these seven chakras provide the right amount of energy to the body, mind, and spirit. However, through illness, extreme stress, emotional trauma, and life experiences, our chakras may become imbalanced and blocked.

I believe that the body is a reflection of the mind, and that the mind is a reflection of the body. And that the mind and body are a reflection of the spirit. All three are intertwined.

The Seven Chakras
(7th) Crown Chakra
Function: Located at the top of the head, the crown chakra governs spirituality and consciousness. It is associated with the brain and our entire nervous system. It guides our communication with higher consciousness and inner awareness.
Color: Violet
Organ: Pineal gland
(6th) Third Eye Chakra
Function: Located on the forehead, between the eyebrows. The function of this chakra is driven by openness and imagination. The third eye chakra is also associated with intuition, foresight, intellect, and clairvoyance.
Color: Indigo
Organ: Pituitary gland
(5th) Throat Chakra
Function: Located at the center of the neck, it is the passage of energy between the lower parts of the body and the head. The throat chakra is associated with the principle of self-expression, truth, and communication.
*Example: Whenever I don't express myself clearly, or resist speaking my truth, my throat will very often become tight, congested, and sore. I know that my chakra is trying to get my attention to speak up. And once I do, my throat relaxes. When I was still doing theater and performing onstage, I'd focus (and breathe) specifically into this chakra because it would relax my throat before I had to sing.
Color: Blue
Organs: Throat, thyroid gland
(4th) Heart Chakra
Function: Located behind the center of the chest, the heart chakra makes us feel connected to the universe. It is also associated with love, compassion, wisdom, trust, forgiveness, generosity, and openness to others
Color: Green
Organs: Heart, thymus gland, lungs
(3rd) Solar Plexus Chakra
Function: Located in the upper part of our belly, the solar plexus chakra brings motion to our thoughts to realize personal desires and intentions in the world. It is associated with self-esteem, self-confidence, action, personal power, strength, and control.
Example: Think of a time when you felt nervous and out of control. You'll recall that you felt it directly within the solar plexus. That is what's known as "butterflies in my stomach".
Color: Yellow
Organs: Stomach, liver, pancreas, solar plexus
(2nd) Sacral Chakra
Function: Located three inches below the navel, the sacral chakra is the center of our feelings and emotions. It is associated with desire, procreation, sexuality, emotions, pleasure, and creativity.
Color: Orange
Organs: Reproductive organs, kidneys, legs
(1st) Root Chakra
Function: Located at the base of the spine, the root chakra is based on the earth element. It is associated with survival, financial independence, stability, and security.
Color: Red
Organs: Adrenal glands, bladder, genitals, spine, feet

Third Eye: Sodalite
Throat: Amazonite
Heart: Green Fluorite
Solar Plexus: Tiger Eye
Sacral: Carnelian

I try to do a 15-minute chakra meditation 2-3 times a week to keep my chakras open and free-flowing. It truly makes a difference in how balanced I feel throughout the week.
Hope you found this post interesting and informative.
Wishing you a fabulous week, everyone!💖

*Listed below are several websites where you can find out more about chakras and gemstones.
Video: This video was created by actress, Shirley MacLaine, in which she explains the chakra system, and then takes you through a chakra meditation. This was the video (VHS tape) I used when starting out. It's excellent!
Ron, fascinating post! Years ago I use to go to a masseuse who incorporated chakra work into her massage. And OMG, it was amazing! She used to work along my spine (face down), at the end of the massage by holding her hands over each chakra while having me take deep breaths. I could actually feel the energy moving in all seven chakras.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your knowledge about chakras (function, color, organ, etc.) because I didn't know all the specifics, I just knew it made me feel so much better. I felt lighter after she worked on me.
And you're right, whenever I feel nervous and out of control, I DO feel it in my solar plexus!
Powerful stuff! Thanks again for sharing, Ron. I'm going to check out the links you recommended when I get home from work tonight. xo
Morning, Candice!
ReplyDelete"She used to work along my spine (face down), at the end of the massage by holding her hands over each chakra while having me take deep breaths. I could actually feel the energy moving in all seven chakras."
That's awesome! And isn't it A-MAZING how much energy you can feel within each chakra? The masseuse I used to go to in Orlando, Florida would incorporate chakra work into her massages as well. And she also incorporated craniosacral therapy into her massages as well. In fact, she always started her massages with it. It's subtle, but very powerful.
You're very welcome. I've been slowing putting this post together over the past two months, adding information little by little. Glad you found it helpful.
Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a grrrrreat rest of your week!

Ron, you shared a lot of great information about "energy" in this post and how it affects us -- "For the most part, we unconsciously absorb energy without ever being discerning. All that energy becomes a part of our own system; either energizing or draining us." -- I believe that 100%!
ReplyDeleteEven science proves that everything is made of atoms, which are energy. I'll go one step further and say that I also believe that our thoughts are energy as well.
I too believe that everything is intertwined. That's why they call it (w)holistic health. You've got to treat all three.
Ironic you touched on gemstones because I collect them. I have them throughout my apartment. I didn't know why I was so attracted to them at first. But over time I understood why - ENERGY. My birthstone is amethyst, which is my favorite gemstone. Love the color.
Thank you, Ron. I will refer back to this post often.
"Even science proves that everything is made of atoms, which are energy. I'll go one step further and say that I also believe that our thoughts are energy as well."
ReplyDeleteDaniel, thank you for sharing that! And also this....
"That's why they call it (w)holistic health. You've got to treat all three."
Yessssssssssssss! Loved that! Years ago, I discovered Louise Hay and her books, which focused on that very topic - wholistic health.
Amethyst is such a beautiful gemstone! Mine birthstone(s) are pink tourmaline and opal. I love both those stones!
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing on this topic, I really appreciate that! Have a faaaaaaabulous rest of your week, my friend!

Thanks for the link, Ron! X
ReplyDeleteYou are so very welcome, Candice!
ReplyDeleteRon, how did you first get into alternative/holistic modalities? I really enjoy when you post about them on your blog because it has always interested me. I do believe that everything is made of energy and that we can feel that energy, whether it comes from people or even places that I've visited. I've enjoyed the energy in some places, while others I didn't. Like you said, you get a "vibe". People too. And I've learned to trust how I feel about someone when I first meet them.
ReplyDeleteI am going to forward this post to a friend of mine who I think would really enjoy it because he's very much into this topic.
Thank you!
Morning, Abby!
ReplyDeleteFor as long as I can remember, I've always had an interest in alternative/holistic modalities. For some reason, these things always just felt "right" for me. We are all different in how we perceive life and what is good for us. For me, I've always felt things as "energy." Just like you mentioned, even places have different energies. And there are even places that I've never visit (only seen in photographs) in which instantly felt drawn to.
Me too, I've learned (through experience) to trust how I initially feel when meeting someone.
Thank you for stopping today, Abby! Have a terrific rest of your week!

I LOVE THIS.
ReplyDeleteWe're on the same wavelength because I'm currently reading two books: Anodea Judith's Eastern Body, Western Mind: Psychology and the Chakra System and Lisa Campion's The Art of Psychic Reiki. I've been putting off studying to become a Reiki practitioner. Your post feels like a push from the universe. ❤️
I don't believe people realize how much stored energy in their bodies affects their health and well-being. I had Reiki for the first time a few years ago and it felt incredible. I've also recently started doing yoga, and I feel like a completely different person. Sometimes I cry while doing different positions, and it makes me realize how much I've kept inside of me for so long.
Thank you for sharing this. Your links are SO HELPFUL. So much love, my friend. 😘
Ron, this is a topic I know nothing about, so thanks for the enlightenment. Yes, I do feel other people’s energy, both positive and negative. And some people just drain the energy right out of you! I try to just eliminate those folks right out of my life 🤣 though it’s not always possible. The gemstones associated with each chakra is also interesting. I do know people who wear or carry certain gemstones for their healing powers.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this part of your life. I’m sending the cold air we’ve got today right on over to Philly. Enjoy!
Hellooooooooooo, Kari!
ReplyDeleteYes, I truly think you and I are on the same wavelength because ever since meeting online, I see that we have so much in common. Which is why I believe we were destine to meet. And I'm so glad we did!
" I've been putting off studying to become a Reiki practitioner. Your post feels like a push from the universe. ❤️"
Reiki has a way of guiding you to the right Reiki Master for your attunements to become a Reiki practitioner yourself. So when the time is right, you'll find the Reiki Master for YOU. That's how it happened for me. I'm a Level Two practitioner and was attuned by two separate Reiki Masters. They were both exactly what I need at that time.
Isn't Reiki amazing? I felt just like you when I experienced it for the first time.
" I've also recently started doing yoga, and I feel like a completely different person. Sometimes I cry while doing different positions, and it makes me realize how much I've kept inside of me for so long."
That's AWESOME! And that means you're doing it with the correct intention because yoga is very much about opening up and releasing what's inside of us. It connects the body to the mind and the spirit.
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Love to you as well!!!!!!

" Yes, I do feel other people’s energy, both positive and negative. And some people just drain the energy right out of you! I try to just eliminate those folks right out of my life 🤣 though it’s not always possible."
ReplyDeleteYup! So you see, you DO know about this topic. You're very intuitive and can sense energy. And I can tell that from all of our years blogging together!
"The gemstones associated with each chakra is also interesting. I do know people who wear or carry certain gemstones for their healing powers."
Me too. In fact, someone I work with wears gemstone bracelets AND necklaces for that very reason.
You are very welcome, my friend! X And thanks for sending the cold air my way!!! It's about 75 degrees here today, but I would like it COLDER. LOL! God, how I can't wait for autumn!

Ron, excellent condensation of what's truly a fascinating, huge topic! As you know, I've been making and wearing a chakra bracelet for years now, and I'd feel naked without it. I'm going to go back to your links when I finish here because I'm always eager to know more.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people would claim gemstones are "just rocks" and can't have energy. They're wrong!! I think everything in the universe has energy, and we're only just now tapping into some of it. You're so right: mental, physical, and spiritual energy are interconnected, and we need to clear the junk out so we can feel whole and healthy.
Thanks again, for such a fascinating post. Kind of makes me miss my Sunday Gemstones posts because I learned so much of value from writing them. Keep up the good work, and enjoy the rest of your week! xx
Debbie, I was soooooooooooo thinking of YOU while putting this post together. Especially when I got to the part about gemstones because of the beautiful jewelry you make, using gemstones! I also knew about your understanding of colors, energy, and the chakra system. And by the way, I miss your Sunday posts. I always looked forward to them.
ReplyDelete"A lot of people would claim gemstones are "just rocks" and can't have energy. They're wrong!! I think everything in the universe has energy, and we're only just now tapping into some of it."
Yes, I've heard that from people as well. I mean, gemstones come from the earth and the earth is a living thing. So why wouldn't gemstones contain energy? Science proves it.
That's like the people I've met who believe that animals are not capable of love because they don't have a soul. And I say to them, "Excuse me, but animals do have souls. And not only can they love, but they are the prime example of unconditional love. Which is something most of us humans are not capable of."
Thanks so much and sharing on this topic, my friend. Very much appreciated! Have a fabulous rest of your week!

Like Bijoux, this is a topic I know nothing about, but am fascinated. Particularly after reading this post, Ron! So much of what you shared about energy and being able to feel it emanating from a person or place, I do understand because I've experienced it. But I didn't know that we each have an chakra energy system within our body. There are some people who when I'm with are draining. Others, I feel energized.
ReplyDeleteYou have giving me much to ponder and investigate. Thank you! I really admire the way you are open to things and follow your gut.
Hey there, Clair!
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people sense energy coming from a place or a person, but then let it go because they may feel as if they are unfairly "judging". However, for me, I would say that 99.9% of the time, the feelings I pick up on are spot on. So I follow my gut.
"There are some people who when I'm with are draining. Others, I feel energized."
Me as well. And I try to either distance myself from the people who are draining, or spend as little time around them as possible. For instance, people you work with. You can't always avoid them because you work with them. However, I do try to only interact with them only when it comes to work related stuff. I don't talk with them about anything personal.
Thanks so much for stopping by, Clair! Have a fabulous rest of your week!

Ron, incredible that you mentioned Louise Hay because I have one her books (You Can Heal Your Life), which I continue to read. It's on my nightstand next to my bed. I was quite sad when she passed in 2017. So inspiring she was. And continues to be!
ReplyDeleteVery cool post, Ron! And this may surprise you but both my girlfriend and me are very much into energy-type practices. She does yoga and has slowly gotten me into it. However, I need to be a bit more consistent in my practice. Also, we both have had Reiki sessions, massage therapy, and tapping. Are you familiar with tapping? It's pretty damn impressive.
ReplyDeleteI too believe that everything consists of energy. My belief is that our spirit is energy and that when we die, we return to that energy. Our bodies too are energy, but they don't remain forever like our spirit.
Thank you for sharing this information. When we both have time this weekend, we plan to visited the links you shared and delve deeper into them. Looking forward to it!
Thanks again, dude!
Hiya, Matt!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I am sooooooooooooo impressed at all the different energy practices you've experienced! That's AWESOME! But I'm not really surprised being that you and I share the same interest, such as all things GOTH. LOL!
As you know, I'm a Reiki practitioner. And yes!!!!! I am very familiar with tapping and practice that almost every day. And you got that right, it is pretty damn impressive. I started investigating that about four years ago and found it tremendously effective. And what I love about it is that it's something you can do anytime, anywhere, and it quick and easy.
I LOVE what you said...
"My belief is that our spirit is energy and that when we die, we return to that energy. Our bodies too are energy, but they don't remain forever like our spirit."
I believe the same thing, but have never had anyone else say that. Our bodies are like the car that drives us through life. However, it doesn't last forever.
Thanks sooooooooo much for stopping by and sharing your experience on this topic, Matt. Very much appreciated! Have an wonderful weekend!

P.S. enjoy the links!
Ron, wanted to stop back to let you know that we watch the VID and really enjoyed it. Bookmarked it for future watches! Thanks, dude!
ReplyDeleteHi! Found your post online while searching for information about gemstones and meditation. Thank you for sharing because I discovered more than I was searching for!
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear you enjoyed, Matt! Thanks for letting me know. Happy Memorial Day!
ReplyDeleteGreetings, SammyD!
ReplyDeleteGlad you found this post useful. Thanks for letting me know!
All the best!

Ron, I love discovering the various ways you take care of your self - body, mind, and spirit! Such an inspiration, you are. Tell me, have you always been into alternative health modalities, or was it something you were lead to during a particular time in your life?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this information. I can't wait to investigate the links this week. I'm especially curious about the video by Shirley MacLaine. Love her movies. Terms of Endearment was one of my favorites.
Have a great week, Ron! And let's not even talk about the HEAT and HUMIDITY. Isn't it horrendous? xox
Hellooooooooooo there, Elaine!
ReplyDeleteYes, I have always been interested in alternative health modalities. Ever since I can remember, this kind of stuff fascinated me. Also, I think I was drawn to it because I could sense that it would work for me. Everyone is different. For me, my body (and mind) responses more favorably to alternative stuff.
When you have time, do watch the video. I love how she explains things simply and understandably. Not only did I have the VHS tape, but I also read ALL of her books.
LOVE 'Terms of Endearment'! I loved the chemistry between she and Jack Nicolson!
OMG....the heat these past few days has been horrendous indeed! And tomorrow it's even going to be hotter!
Pray for me! Lol!
Thanks so much for stopping by, Elaine! Hope you had a great Labor Day!

Helloooo, Ron!! Love coming back after yet another hiatus to a wonderful post. YES, interesting and informative! And, you know, I do know about these things... everything is energy and when one tunes into it, wow, so cool! Not really sure why I'm not practicing at least something every day. I still love Reiki, but tend to do as needed rather than as a routine. A dish of crystal/stones are on the table next to my bed but will just hold various ones as I need help sleeping or letting go. Ah, I should be carrying around pockets of them since I always need to let go of some thing. I've done tapping, and used my singing bowls/bell at times. And, can certainly quiet myself to visualize the main chakras and clear some stagnant energy. Other days though... it's like I forget I know about all these amazing things. There's a funny little meme I'm going to share on one of my pages... little kid sitting at a table, eyes closed, middle fingers up... saying is "When you're trying to align your chakras, but people are still pissing you off." haha! Yeah, I feel like that some days.
ReplyDeleteI am continually impressed how you are able to keep regular practice! Energy work is very valuable.
~Mary
Mary I KNEW you would identify with this post because of our mutual interests in energy (Reiki), gemstones and crystals, and Buddha statues!
ReplyDelete"but will just hold various ones as I need help sleeping or letting go. "
That's an awesome idea!
" I've done tapping..."
Me too! And I freaking love the results. I tap everyday, which doesn't take long at all. Maybe a few minutes. Especially if I need to release tension or negative thoughts.
"little kid sitting at a table, eyes closed, middle fingers up... saying is "When you're trying to align your chakras, but people are still pissing you off." haha! Yeah, I feel like that some days."
HA! CRACKED. ME. UP!!!!! And yeah, some days I feel like that myself!
As a kid, I always felt the power of energy. So, when I discovered Reiki, I was like, "That's it!"
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend!
