Post updates by email:

For as long as I can remember, I've always worn a fragrance. My father was the same way. He and I had such a passion for smelling good.

I'm a little obsessed with my sense of smell (and taste). I smell everything! Whenever I read a book, I spend half the time sniffing the pages as I turn them.

I used to joke and tell people that I must have been a nose in a past life.

To me, using a fragrance is like music that you wear because it invokes a feeling. I also see fragrance as part of my wardrobe.

And it doesn't have to be a special occasion for me to wear a fragrance because I see every day as a special occasion. Whether I work or have the day off, I don't walk out of my apartment without giving myself a spritz or dab.

Personally, I'm attracted to fragrances that are composed of earthy, warm, and woody notes. They seem to work best on my skin. And they also seem to ground me. Believe it or not, any scent with too much citrus goes sour on my skin. I enjoy my fragrances very much like my wine - dark, warm, and full-bodied.

Unlike many people, I don't have a signature scent. I rather enjoy switching my fragrances seasonally. Not only does it keep things fresh, but after wearing a fragrance for so long, you can no longer smell it, so you just keep spraying on more and more.

------------------

Today I would like to share what I've learned over the past 37 years about selecting and wearing a fragrance. I spent 10 of those years specifically in the fragrance industry, learning how they are created.

Selecting A New Fragrance -

Always test a fragrance on your skin before purchasing it. What smells great on a paper blotter or someone else might not work the same way for you. And that's because everyone's skin chemistry reacts differently.

Never try any more than three fragrances when testing on your skin. The more you try, the more confused your olfactory receptors become.

Never try a new fragrance when you have a cold or not feeling well because you will always associate it with that cold and those feelings.

Never rub a fragrance after spraying it because it changes the way it smells. A fragrance should dry down naturally; allowing the top notes, middle notes, and base notes to unfold slowly. Also, rubbing a fragrance causes it to dissipate faster.

Where To Apply Fragrance -

Start with one spray. Less is more.

Focus on your pulse points. These are areas where your veins sit closest to your skin, so you can (literally) feel your pulse. Areas like the inside of your wrists, chest, neck, inner elbows, behind your ear lobes, and the back of your knees.

Another great area to apply your fragrance is to your hair because it absorbs liquid and retains it longer. Also, applying fragrance to your hair will keep it smelling fresh, especially if you're out somewhere and people are smoking cigarettes.

Now let's talk about the different scent families...

Scent Families -

Floral

The floral scent family is one of the most common families and is used in many well-known perfumes. Floral scents are most often used in women’s fragrances, although they are occasionally used in men’s as well.

Oriental

The oriental fragrance family consists of rich exotic scents. When you think of oriental scents, think herbs and spices or dry, powdery, resin notes.

Woods

Woody perfumes are usually warm and opulent, mixing incense-like fragrances like sandalwood and patchouli with drier notes like cedar.

Fresh

The fresh scent family encompasses clean bright scents. Herby, citrusy, and oceanic scents all fall into this category.

-----------------

Different Strengths -

Parfum - Eau de Parfum (EDP) - Eau de Toilette (EDT)

-Parfum, also known as “essence” or “extract” is the most concentrated preparation, with a percentage between 15 and 40% of raw materials diluted in alcohol. This preparation does not contain water. Lasts the longest and has the strongest projection.

-Eau de Parfum has a percentage of essences between 10 and 20%. Second highest, and typically performs very well in the longevity and projection category.

-Eau de Toilette remains the least concentrated solution, with a percentage between 4 and 15%.  It can perform quite well for most people, especially those with moisturized skin.

-------------------

Male/Female Fragrances -

Even though fragrances are often categorized as "Male and Female," don't allow that to stop you from wearing them. My collection is a combination of both male and female fragrances. If I like a fragrance, I like it. It doesn't matter to me what gender it's labeled.

Taking A Scent Family Quiz -

I took this perfume quiz and found it to be spot on when selecting my scent family -

Woody:

Woody fragrances usually include bark, patchouli, amber, oakmoss, cedarwood, and vetiver. Scents that evoke thoughts of nature. Unique and confidence-inspiring.

--------------------

Hope you found this post interesting and informative.

Wish you a fragrant week, everyone!

  1. Ron, the timing of this post could not be anymore perfect because now that spring and summer are moving in, like you, I switch fragrances. You shared so many awesome tips for selecting a new fragrance. THANK YOU, Mr. Beauty Expert! You know about so many things in the industry. You could be a very $well-paid$ personal shopper. I would definitely hire you!

I took the quiz and it said "oriental" which is spot on. I love those notes. I also love florals as well. I like a fragrance that combines them both.

You're so right, I noticed that if I wear one particular fragrance for too long, I can no longer smell it on me. Other people say they can, but I don't.

I wear a fragrance everyday too. Sometimes I even spray some on before going to bed. Some of my favorite perfumes are YSL Libre, Tom Ford Black Orchid, Valentino Born in Roma, and Versace Bright Crystal. I like that one in the summer.

I'm going to forward this post to my bestie because she is a fragrance addict. Her bedroom looks like the fragrance counter at Neiman Marcus. LOL!

    Loved this post, Ron! xox

  2. Ron, I am going to come back after taking the quiz (during my lunch break) and let you know what fragrance family I ended up, but I can tell you that I'm like you, I tend to go for real earthy and warm fragrance. I also like a little bit of spice added in there. Are you familiar with the original John Varvatos fragrance? That remains my all time favorite. I get so many compliments on that one. I also have Savage from Dior. Love that one too. In the summer, I wear Versace Eros because it's a bit on the spicy side, but also fresh and clean.

I wear whatever too, Ron. I don't care if it's men's or women's. I used to wear Narciso Rodriguez and that's considered a woman's fragrance.

Thanks for sharing about the different strengths because I didn't know that. Also, about when NOT to purchase a new fragrance. And all of it makes total sense, which I can't believe I never knew.

  3. Hola, Denise!

Aw...you are so welcome! I'm happy to know that this information was helpful. Don't you love shopping for a new fragrance? I like to take my time, narrowing it down to only two fragrances on my wrists, and then waiting about 15 minutes to see how each one reacts on my skin.

I always wanted to have a signature scent, however, I get bored with the same fragrance for too long. Plus, I like to smell it on myself, and if you wear one all the time, your olfactory receptors become immune to it.

"Some of my favorite perfumes are YSL Libre, Tom Ford Black Orchid, Valentino Born in Roma, and Versace Bright Crystal"

OMG, you have excellent taste in fragrance. I love each and everyone of those! I have actually worn Black Orchid by Tom Ford. What I like about all his fragrances is that he doesn't label them male/female. He creates them for BOTH. And speaking of Bright Crystal, it reminds me of my time living in Florida.

"Her bedroom looks like the fragrance counter at Neiman Marcus. LOL!"

That's hilarious! That's how my medicine cabinet looks with all my different skincare brands.

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing, Denise! I love your passion for fragrance!

  4. "Are you familiar with the original John Varvatos fragrance? "

Yes! Yes! Yes! God, I remember smelling that for the first time eons ago and IMMEDIATELY falling in love with it. I love how sexy it smells, but not in a loud way. It's so smooth! Just like a red wine! He came out with two other fragrances after the original, but I like the first one the best. I also love the bottle.

I also remember smelling Savage when it first launched and was shocked that I loved it as much as I did because I was never a Dior fragrance fan. For some reason, they never did anything for me, UNTIL, Savage!

    Versace Eros? LOVE it!

" I used to wear Narciso Rodriguez and that's considered a woman's fragrance."

HA! OMG, you and I are so alike. I too worn that fragrance!!!! I love how it dries down musky. The first time I ever smelled it was when a customer walked past me at work. I ran up to her and asked what perfume she was wearing and she said, Narciso Rodriguez. He came out with a men's fragrance a few years later, but I have to be honest and say that I didn't care for it.

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your faves! Enjoyed your comment!

    Have a fabulous day!

  5. " I smell everything! Whenever I read a book, I spend half the time sniffing the pages as I turn them. I used to joke and tell people that I must have been a nose in a past life." --- Cracked me up, Ron! I too sniff the pages of a book. Especially a new book!

Such an interesting post about fragrance. I took the quiz and the result was fresh, which is true. I tend to go for any fragrance that smell clean, fresh, and outdoorsy. Being in the industry, I'm sure you're familiar with Replica. I love so many of their scents. But my fave is Beach Walk. They label Replica as "unisex" because women and men can both enjoy them. What you said is true, if I like a fragrance I like it. Doesn't matter to me who it's targeted for.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Ron!

  6. Ron, this post was so educational. And I plan on passing it on to my girlfriend because as you know, she loves all things beautiful - makeup, skincare, haircare and fragrance. I don't know all the fragrances she wears, but she's got A LOT. I, on the other hand, only wear oils because they seem to last longer on my skin. I get them at Whole Foods in their self-care area. Sometimes I buy a few of them and then change them up. I like fragrances that contain sandalwood, amber, cedarwood, tobacco, frankincense and myrrh. I love anything that smells like really good quality incense.

"Never try a new fragrance when you have a cold or not feeling well because you will always associate it with that cold and those feelings." --- very interesting!

    Great post, dude!

  7. "I too sniff the pages of a book. Especially a new book!"

You too?!?! There is nothing like the smell of a new book! And you don't get them from a Kindle! Sometimes I used to go into Barnes & Noble and just walk up and down the aisle, grabbing books, and sniffing them. LOL!!!

"Being in the industry, I'm sure you're familiar with Replica."

Yes, of course I'm familiar with Replica. AWESOME brand! My favorite Replica scent is Jazz Club. I love Beach Walk during the summer months. Doesn't it blow you away how they DO, in fact, smell just like the name of the fragrance? And I love that they are unisex. I remember when First Date was launched last year and it sold out so fast!

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing, my friend! Very much enjoyed your comment!

    Have a grrrrreat day!

  8. Wow Ron, you've been in the industry for 37 years?!? What a wealth of knowledge you must be. And I can see that in just reading this post all about fragrance. Very interesting information. I never realized all the differnet things that go into selecting a fragrance.

I have such bad alergies, so I have to be very careful about what I can wear. I stick to one (Amazing Grace by Philosophy). It's the only cologne I can wear that doesn't make me sneeze or get a headache. And I love the scent because it's smells clean, just like stepping out of a shower. I've worn it for years. I guess you would call it my signature scent. I usually buy one of their Christmas gift sets that has the fragrance and the body lotion. Sometime I just use the lotion.

Very interesting post, Ron! Just for the heck of it, I'm going to take the quiz later to see what fragrance family I'm in.

  9. Hiya, Matt!

"I, on the other hand, only wear oils because they seem to last longer on my skin. I get them at Whole Foods in their self-care area."

I love (and wear) oils too! And you're right, they do last longer on my skin. I have a challenging time "holding onto" a fragrance, so oils are a great option. I've gotten mine at Whole Foods and Mom's Organic Market. And I like how inexpensive they are.

"I like fragrances that contain sandalwood, amber, cedarwood, tobacco, frankincense and myrrh. I love anything that smells like really good quality incense."

You and I are on the same page because I LOVE all the scents you listed. Not many people know about frankincense and myrrh, but they are so exotic-smelling. That's why I prefer colder weather, I can bring out my dark, rich, and warm scents.

I learned that when I was working for a fragrance company years and years ago. To never purchase a fragrance if you don't well because anytime you smell it, you'll be reminded of that feeling. And it's truth!

Thanks so much for sharing your fragrance loves, Matt! Thoroughly enjoyed!

Have a most excellent day and week!

  10. Greetings, Abby!

Yup, 37 years, can you believe that? I started in the industry as a licensed hairstylist, then I went into makeup, then skincare, and then fragrance. I worked 10 years for the company Bvlgari as a fragrance specialist. LOVED it!

"I stick to one (Amazing Grace by Philosophy)."

I TOTALLY love Amazing Grace!!!! God, I remember when Philosophy launched it. I was working at Saks in Orlando. Such an awesome scent! Like you said, it's the perfect clean, just-stepped-out-of-the-shower fragrance! Yes, the sets are such the great deal because they combined them with other Philosophy body care ancillaries.

Curious to see what scent family you're in!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by and sharing, Abby! Enjoyed your comment! Have a great day!

  11. Love the photo at the head of this post!

Ron, I didn't know to NEVER rub a fragrance after spraying. I do that all the time. My bad! But it makes total sense about allowing the various notes to dry down naturally. That's probably why my fragrance doesn't last as long as I'd like.

I use different fragrances. I like to change them seasonally as well. Summer, I go fresh. Fall and winter I like fragrances with more earthy notes and a tad spicy.

I love Cashmere Mist (Donna Karan). It's my classic favorite! I also use the deodorant. I like the original Chloe too.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I agree, Ron. Did NOT care for the men's Narciso. And as you know, it didn't last on the market, so that must mean a lot of people didn't care for it.

Isn't Savage great? It's the only Dior fragrance I've ever worn.

I forgot to ask in my first comment, did you ever wear any of the Giorgio Armani fragrances?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yes, you're right, it didn't last on the market!

The only Giorgio Armani fragrance I liked and wore is, Code. Sexy!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Thank you, Clair! I made that photo by taking two photographs and creating a collage. I then added the words.

Yes, that's something I learned in my studies. A fragrance is made with three notes that should dry down in their own time. If you rub your wrists together before that happens, then you don't get the fullness of each note because it crushes them all together. It's habit I had to break myself because I did it too!

"I love Cashmere Mist (Donna Karan). It's my classic favorite! I also use the deodorant. I like the original Chloe too."

OMG, you just mentioned two of my favorites. LOVE Cashmere Mist! I too used to use the deodorant, but had to stop because I can no longer use an anti-perspirant. It was causing cyst's in my armpits. But the scent is fabulous! Chloe as well! I love the original scent!

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing, my friend! Enjoyed your comment!

  16. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this, Ron! So much helpful information. I have also always loved fragrances. I remember my first bottle of perfume was either Love's Baby Soft or Avon's Sweet Honesty. I also remember really liking musk scents as a teen. When I was dating, I was OBSESSED with men's colognes and was always very attracted to guys who wore good ones! LOL! I had a friend who was just like me and we'd go to department stores just to smell all the men's fragrances and pick out ones we liked best . . . Polo, CK One, Davidoff's Cool Water. We were horny 20 year olds! When I met my husband, he wore Lagerfeld!

I did not know you weren't supposed to rub it into your wrists and I never knew about the different strengths. I usually do 3 sprays to the back of my neck so it gets on my hair, too. The wheel is interesting. I feel as though I've always chosen fresh or spicy scents. NOTHING floral. That is a scent I can't stand. So, I'm definitely fresh/oriental. Then I took the quiz and it said Oceanic and when I looked at examples, it listed Davidoff's Cool Water. Yup!!!

I like to try new scents, because as you said, you can no longer smell it after a while. I'm currently using YOLO that I bought at TJMaxx. I just looked up the manufacturer, Palm Beach Beaute, and would you believe it's located in Delray Beach?? How crazy is that? I have a bottle of their OMG that I'm going to use when my YOLO is empty.

I bet you smell AMAZING, Ron! Thanks so much for this informative and fun post! XOXO

    ReplyDelete
  17. Okay, I had to Google Yolo because I had NEVER heard of it before. LOVE the bottle! And how CRAZY is it that Palm Beach Beaute if located in DELRAY BEACH?!?!? The next time I talk to my brother, I will ask him if he knows of it! And gotta' tell you, I get a lot of my fragrances from TJ Maxx because a) they're cheaper and b) they always carry the fragrances that have been discontinued that I like!

Can you believe (and I'm being honest) that I USED to wear Love's Baby Soft? I wore it when I was living in NYC because I could find it at Duane Reade drug store.

" had a friend who was just like me and we'd go to department stores just to smell all the men's fragrances and pick out ones we liked best . . . Polo, CK One, Davidoff's Cool Water. We were horny 20 year olds!"

OMG, I CRACKED UP LAUGHING at that!!! And I know of (and have worn) all the men's cologne you mentioned! In fact, I remember when CK One first came out and I bought it at Burdines in Florida! And Lagerfeld (the original) as well!

" I usually do 3 sprays to the back of my neck so it gets on my hair, too."

That's PERFECT! When you spray it in your hair, it lasts so much longer than on your skin.

Me neither. Nothing floral. Particularly anything with gardenia. I like the smell of real gardenia, but in a fragrance? No. Too sweet. That's why I never cared for the Michael Kors fragrance.

Thanks ever so much for stopping by and sharing your passion for fragrance. LOVED your comment! Have a terrific-smelling week!

  19. Abby thanks for taking the time to stop back and let me know! I found the quiz accurate as well.

  20. Ron, I wanted to take the quiz first before I left my comment. It said that I was in the oriental family, which is spot on! I've always been attracted to spicy, warm, woody scents. I'm old school, I still wear the original Coco Chanel and YSL Opium. I've been wearing them for years and I still have women and men asking me what perfume I'm wearing. I can no longer smell them after about 10=15 minutes after applying them, but other people do.

Really enjoyed reading your tips on application and selecting a new fragrance.

"Never rub a fragrance after spraying it because it changes the way it smells. A fragrance should dry down naturally; allowing the top notes, middle notes, and base notes to unfold slowly. Also, rubbing a fragrance causes it to dissipate faster." --- Ron, I never knew that. I've been rubbing my fragrance on forever!

In both fragrances that I wear, I use the Eau de Parfum strength. Although, I have gotten a few samples of the Parfum strength in both fragrances and didn't care for them. I felt like they were a bit too strong.

Thank you for sharing your expertise in your field. You should write a book!

    Happy Wednesday, dear man! xox

  21. Gooood morning, Elaine!

"I'm old school, I still wear the original Coco Chanel and YSL Opium. I've been wearing them for years and I still have women and men asking me what perfume I'm wearing."

Okay, you just mentioned to of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE fragrances!!!! I don't know if you knew this, but I worked for Chanel for six years. I was a makeup artist. However, I also sold the fragrance as well. And believe it or not, I used to the original Coco and got so many compliments on it. To me, Coco is the perfect warm, spicy, and exotic fragrance that goes great with women and men. It seems like incense! And also, YSL Opium. I wore that one too. That used to be my "winter scent" because it's so warm and rich.

And I'm agree with you, very often the Parfum strengths can be overwhelming. And I also find that the smell completely different that they others. For me, I like Eau de Parfum. And they now make them in men's fragrances too!

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your fragrance history. LOVED you comment!

    Have a faaaaaaaabulous Wednesday!

  22. Wonderful post, Ron -- thank you! I always enjoy your "beauty industry" posts because I learn so much from your vast store of knowledge and experiences.

I took the test and came up with Floral. Doesn't particularly surprise me, but lately, I've been gravitating to gourmand scents. Things like caramel, vanilla, and cotton candy. Perhaps I'm deep down feeling a need for comfort (doesn't surprise me, really, considering all that's going on in my world!).

Like you, I don't think of fragrance as something only for special occasions. I don't leave the house without makeup or fragrance -- I wouldn't feel dressed if I did! Nor do I have a signature scent, probably because I enjoy variety, depending on how I feel.

I had to giggle at the mental picture of you sniffing a book. Know why? I do that, too (and seriously thought I was the only one!). I love to smell the crayons in stores before school starts, love to sniff Monk after he's been freshly shampooed, love to sniff candles in the stores, and can't resist spraying air fresheners before I buy one. But books? Yep, that's a scent I'll never tire of!

Enjoy your weekend, my friend ! xx

Ooooooo....that sounds YUMMY! Check out the scent Prada Candy, it has those notes in it.

"Like you, I don't think of fragrance as something only for special occasions. I don't leave the house without makeup or fragrance -- I wouldn't feel dressed if I did! Nor do I have a signature scent, probably because I enjoy variety, depending on how I feel."

LOL! It has GOT to be the VIRGO in us because I too, am very particular about things like that. Plus, I was raised during a time when we were taught to always look (and smell) your best. I also think that when you look good, you FEEL good.

"I had to giggle at the mental picture of you sniffing a book. Know why? I do that, too (and seriously thought I was the only one!). I love to smell the crayons in stores before school starts. love to sniff candles in the stores, and can't resist spraying air fresheners before I buy one."

OMG, YES too that ALL of that!!! Me too! I'm going to leave you a link to a fragrance that is on the market that I have worn before. It's called "Book" - by the company Commodity. It smells incredible! If you're ever out shopping in the mall, check it out. I know Sephora carries it.

  24. "A nose in a past life." Oh, friend, you are the best.
That scent quiz is great, and I love that it recommends perfumes to try! I wrote them down and will try them out the next time I visit Ulta or Sephora! I took it twice and I got Citrus! So, I have some shopping to do!
I completely agree that you should not let men's or women's fragrances stop you. When CKOne came out, it changed my perspective on scents. I love both men's and women's fragrances.

Such a great post as always my friend. I always learn so much from you. 😘❤️

  25. Morning, Kari!

LOL! I swear to god, I smell EVERYTHING. Even when I eat, I smell my food before I eat it. Our sense of smell and taste have the same sensory receptors. So, there very similar. That's why when we have a cold, both senses are blocked.

Isn't that quiz neat? I searched for several different ones, but found that one the most accurate.

"I completely agree that you should not let men's or women's fragrances stop you. When CKOne came out, it changed my perspective on scents. I love both men's and women's fragrances."

Yes, CK One was one of the first fragrances advertised as "unisex." I also loved CK Be. But it wasn't as popular, so it they discontinued it.

  26. Ron, as I knew I most likely would, I'm citrus! I have worn Curve, Allure Sport, and Nautica. I get a lot of my fragrances at TJ Maxx (on sale) and Marshalls. I'm cheap. Lol!

So true about testing a fragrance on your own skin first because I've smelled certain colognes on other guys that smelled great. However, on me, not so much. I'm okay with most fragrances unless they are too sweet.

Didn't know about "rubbing" the fragrance. Great tip!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Ron.

  27. Morning, Robert!

I get a lot of my fragrances at TJ Maxx (on sale) and Marshalls. I'm cheap. Lol!"

Listen, I found many fragrances that I like at BOTH those stores. I used to wear a fragrance from Burberry that was discontinued (Touch), which I found last year at TJ Maxx and it was HALF the price I normally paid. I'm cheap too!

It all depends on each persons skin, how a fragrance smells because everyone has a different chemistry. I've smelled the same fragrance on two different people and it smelled completely different. That's why it's so important to try it on.

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your fragrance faves, my friend! And by the way, I still love the scent of Curve. It's a classic!

  28. "Whenever I read a book, I spend half the time sniffing the pages as I turn them." -- Lol! And that's exactly why I've never purchased a Kindle, Ron, I LOVE the smell of a real book! Nothing like it.

Very interesting post! I use essential oils by diffusing them. I also make my oil body oil, using Jojoba and different essential oils. I even mix them into an unscents body lotion, creating my own.

Have you ever heard of the brand Maison Louis Marie? It's a French brand. I love a lot of their fragrances, but my very, very favorite is #4. It's got Sandalwood, Cedarwood,
Vetiver, and Amber Wood. I love that fragrance! I even purchase the candle.

I took the quiz and came up like you, woody/warm. And that's me to a T!

Thank you for sharing your fragrance experience, Ron. Learned a lot from this post.

  29. Hey there, SammyD!

" And that's exactly why I've never purchased a Kindle, Ron, I LOVE the smell of a real book! Nothing like it."

HA! And that's why I never purchased a Kindle as well. To me, it just feels so weird to read a book on (what is basically) an iPad/ Laptop/Computer. I do enough reading online (blogs, Instagram post, etc,). A book is a book, and should be read as a book. Just my personal opinion.

" I also make my oil body oil, using Jojoba and different essential oils. I even mix them into an unscented body lotion and create my own."

I LOVE that! I do the same with various essential oils. I took a course in aromatherapy several years ago and found it so fascinating. And jojoba is an excellent carrier oil!

"Have you ever heard of the brand Maison Louis Marie? It's a French brand. I love a lot of their fragrances, but my very, very favorite is #4. "

Okay, you and I are twins because I ADORE that brand AND that fragrance. #4 is my fave! I bought a travel size spray last year and used it all summer. It's got the notes that I like, but it's not to heavy for the warm summer months.

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing on this topic. LOVED you comment!

Have a superb weekend, my friend!

  30. Ron, isn't Black Orchid incredible? I get so many compliments on it. I love a lot of the Tom Ford fragrances, but DAMN, I just wish they weren't so expensive!!! The one great thing about his fragrances is that they last, so you don't need to use as much as other brands.

Yes, you got that right! I got a bottle of Ombre Leather over a year ago and was able to get a discount during the Christmas holidays. And that's the ONLY reason I was able to purchase it. I got it for HALF the price!. Like you said, his fragrances last. In fact, I still have the bottle.

  32. Ron, I appreciated this primer on fragrances and I am sure many others will too. However, I have found in recent years that I can no longer wearing most fragrances, unless it is a very light scent. Years ago, when in the career world or when going out for social engagements, I would wear various perfumes but can no longer tolerate their scent. We live in a large mill apt building and often, I will get into the elevator following someone who went a bit overboard on fragrances and find I need to get out as quickly as possible or risk a headache.

I wonder if my current inability to tolerate most fragrances could stem from overusing in years gone by.
Do you know if this is a possible reason?

  33. Greetings, D!

You know, I've heard that same thing from many people in my time. I think what happens with some people is that their body chemistry changes and becomes more sensitive to smells. It's that way with foods as well. There are certain foods I thought were tasty and loved to eat, only to find out that I can no longer stand the taste of them. That's how it was for me and cucumbers. I used LOVED them. Now, the smell and taste of them make me GAG!

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing on this topic, D! Very much appreciate your comment!

Hope you're having a FAB week!
