As most of you know, I am not fond of summer.
However, even people who love summer have mentioned that they find the heat and humidity hard to handle this year. They too are looking forward to autumn.
Besides the oppressive heat, this summer has been rough for me. There is something "off" about it. The overall energy seems chaotic and tense. Instead of people being happy about summer, they seem much more impatient and argumentative. I've witnessed more screaming matches on the streets, and more horn honking and bird-flipping than I ever have. Even though I don't like summer, I can usually move through it without bitching and complaining. However, this year it's been extremely challenging. Maybe it's because I live in a heavily populated city, but I find myself dreading the thought of mingling with bumper-to-bumper people. When I'm not working or running errands, I am hibernating indoors. I find it too hot to do anything else.
This is why I look forward to spending more time outside, once autumn rolls in and brings cooler air. I long for the day when I can finally wear a turtleneck and a jacket.
For me, my senses (sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch) are immeasurably affected by the fall season. Ironically, although autumn is a time when things are dying, I personally feel more alive.
Therefore today, I would like to share a sneak peek into my favorite season; anticipating the sensory delights that come with autumn.
Hope you enjoy!

These first two photographs are of Yardley, PA., which I plan to visit come autumn...
I found this list online and 💛'd it...
Autumn is cozy soup season...
And pumpkin bread with coffee season...
The aroma of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg...
Autumn in Japan...
Fall Foliage in Upper Black Eddy, PA...
Yup, I can't WAIT for autumn...
Happy Pre-Autumn, everyone!

Ron, you hit the nail on the head about this summer. Now mind you, I always look forward to summer and usually love everything about it. But not this summer. I don't think it's ever been this hot and humid in previous summers. In fact, I know it hasn't because it normally doesn't bother me.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you too, I do think that this summer has had a different kind of energy. I live in the burbs, so I can't even imagine what it must be like living in a city with all those people around you IN THIS HEAT. I suspect the tension between people may have something to do with inflation and the upcoming election. I'm not a political person, but you can feel the tension in the air.
I cannot wait for autumn! I am so ready for it too. I like how things slow down when it moves into autumn and winter.
The autumn photos you shared put a HUGE smile on my face. I could live in that house too. FOREVER. Lol! I can't wait to start making soups. And bread. And sipping red wine.
Thanks for sharing this post today, Ron. I needed it. xoxo
Couldn't agree with your more, Ron. I am OVER summer this year. I'm usually okay with summer, even though it's not my favorite season. But this year I could do without it. I am so looking forward to autumn and this post got me so excited! Aren't the colors of autumn amazing? I enjoy the colors of spring as well, but autumn is my favorite because I like warm, earthy colors. I don't mind being cold because I can always get warm. But when I'm extremely hot, I can never seem to cool down.
ReplyDelete"The aroma of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg..." - aren't they the BEST aromas? Again, they're warm. Ooooo, and pumpkin bread! I can't wait to have my first slice (and second and third) LOL!
Pennsylvania looks like such a beautiful state. Don't you love the Northeast? I do!
Your post made me VERY happy, Ron! Just think, summer is almost over and then AUTUMN arrives!
Good evening, Abby!
ReplyDelete"I always look forward to summer and usually love everything about it. But not this summer."
Yes, that's what SO MANY summer-lovers are saying. Just the other day at work, a client was telling me that she is starting to dislike summer because each year the heat is getting more and more intense, and starting too early.
I'm getting to a point where (and this happens every summer) where I don't want to live in a city anymore. I could sense that this summer was going to be brutally hot. And I was right.
"I suspect the tension between people may have something to do with inflation and the upcoming election. I'm not a political person, but you can feel the tension in the air."
I think you are spot on about that. And I most definitely can feel it in this Philadelphia BIG TIME. I can only imagine thestreet riots come Sept.
Me too! But I have to be honest, I already started making soups a few weeks ago. But they were summer soups, with lots of veggies, turmeric, and fresh lemon juice.
Ohhhhhh yes, RED wine! I drink Pinot Noir in the summer and then move to Cabs come autumn and winter.
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Enjoyed your comment! Have a great week!

" I'm usually okay with summer, even though it's not my favorite season. But this year I could do without it. "
ReplyDeleteThat's what many people are saying this year, Daniel! Which surprises me because when summer arrives here, people are ecstatic and go bonkers with happiness. Not this summer, though.
What you said about the colors of autumn ring true for me as well. I LOVE warm, earthy colors. I also love warm, early scents.
" I don't mind being cold because I can always get warm. But when I'm extremely hot, I can never seem to cool down."
OMG, you sound just like me!!!! I don't care HOW COLD it is, you will never hear me complain because I can alway get warm. But when I'm hot (especially this summer heat and humidy) it just wipes me out.
"Ooooo, and pumpkin bread! I can't wait to have my first slice (and second and third) LOL!"
HA! Me too! One of the employees at Trader Joe's said that they will start getting their autumn foods at the end of this month. Can't wait!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing, my friend. I know, August is almost over. And then it's on to September...and then October! Yeeeehaw!!!!!!!!!!
Have a great week!

I hear you and Summer is my favorite season! There has been something depressing and almost sinister this summer. Between the heat wave (it was worst for us in June), the constant severe weather alerts, and the nastiness of people irl and online, I’m even over it! I feel like August has been a wash for us with how bad it started and then when we were ready to get pu5 of the house this past weekend, it was rainy the whole damn weekend, Friday-Sunday. Today was no better. And I can’t begin to tell you how much I dread this election. People are already losing their minds. So much for tolerance!
ReplyDeleteI’m hoping for pleasant weather and enjoyable food and activities this Autumn. Can’t wait to see your Yardley pictures!
Ron, I live close to a city and I found it the same way this summer. People seem to be on edge. One night, I saw two guys get out of their cars and start yelling at each other to the point where I thought they were going to start hitting one another. Tense. Very tense.
ReplyDeleteI'm more of a Fall/Winter person, so this summer has not been enjoyable. I've been hearing from friends all over the country that it's been like that everywhere. I even have friends in Europe who say the same thing.
"I long for the day when I can finally wear a turtleneck and a jacket. " Me too! And do you know what I love? I love how when you first feel the weather switch to autumn and the glorious cool air.
That house is sublime! I could live there in a heartbeat. Gorgeous photos of my favorite season, Ron. I may have to stop back this week and look at them again. xo
"There has been something depressing and almost sinister this summer."
ReplyDeleteYes! Yes! Yes! You expressed that so perfectly because that's what I've been feeling too! It's been like a heavy darkness, hanging over the city. And because I'm always shoulder to should with people while walking down the streets, that energy seems to cling to me. It's been quite challenging for me this summer to stay positive.
"Between the heat wave (it was worst for us in June), the constant severe weather alerts, and the nastiness of people irl and online, I’m even over it!"
OMG, me too! OVER it!
"And I can’t begin to tell you how much I dread this election. People are already losing their minds. So much for tolerance!"
It's already started in Philly. Protests, riots, people screaming in the streets demanding that you vote. And that you vote blue. I dread as the election gets closer and what will happen in this city come Oct and Nov. Because no matter who wins, people are going to lose their minds.
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Sending you postive vibes......

P. S. Can't wait to visit Yardley in the fall!
Hey there, Candice!
ReplyDelete"One night, I saw two guys get out of their cars and start yelling at each other to the point where I thought they were going to start hitting one another."
Sounds so much like what I witness here in Philadelphia on a regular basis. Sometimes at night, I will here people on the streets screaming at each. And my apartment in on the 21st floor!!!!
I too am a Fall/Winter person. I used to love summer. But after living in Florida for 20 years, I've grown tired of heat, humidity, and constant sunshine. But I've got to say that the summers here are more intense than the ones in Florida. City heat is a completely different animal .
Me too, I keep hearing from people all over the country that they too are having a rough summer.
"And do you know what I love? I love how when you first feel the weather switch to autumn and the glorious cool air."
OMG....isn't that the BEST FEELING EVER????? And I am so looking forward to that!
Isn't that house charming, adorable, and fantastic?
Thanks so much for stopping by, Candice! August is halfway over, so autumn will be stepping in line soon! Can't wait! Have a terrific week!

Even though I am a summer person, this summer has been way too hot and humid. And rainy too! Normally, I dread when summer is over, but not this year. I'm actually looking forward to cooler weather. I don't mind the cold. I just don't like mid-winter, when it's nothing BUT cold and gray.
ReplyDeleteDon't you love soup? It's such a great food because it's all-in-one. I like making a big pot of soup and then eating it for several days. My favorite pie is pumpkin, so when autumn hits and stores start selling it, I'm THERE! Have you ever tried Trader Joe's Pumpkin Butter? It's heavenly. I like spreading it on a hot, crispy English muffin.
Beautiful photographs. I love the one of autumn in Japan. One day I want to visit that country.
Ron, I love your selection of wine-type. Pinot Noir and Cabs are my faves! I'm not a white wine person. Only red! And the soup ingredients you mentioned sound incredible!
ReplyDeleteGuess what Abby? I'm actually sitting here this moment responding to your comment and sipping a delicious Pinot Noir! Me neither. Not a white wine drinker. I like my wine, dry, full-bodied, and bold.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Robert!
ReplyDeleteYes, besides the heat and humidity, it's been a rainy summer. It reminds me very much of Florida weather.
" I'm actually looking forward to cooler weather. I don't mind the cold. I just don't like mid-winter, when it's nothing BUT cold and gray."
I feel the same way about the cold. But I also like those long stretches of cold and gray days mid-winter. I know, I'm strange. Lol!
"Don't you love soup? It's such a great food because it's all-in-one. I like making a big pot of soup and then eating it for several days."
Yes, I adore soup! And I do the same thing. I make a big pot in my Dutch oven. That way I have enough to last several days. I also think soup tastes better after the first day. It's had time to marinate the flavors.
Yup, I have tried Trader Jor's Pumpkin Butter and loved it. I also like their fig butter. I'm looking forward to the day when I see the shelves stocked with AUTUMN stuff!!!!
As you know, I lived in Japan for 2 months many years ago. What a fabulous country! I just wouldn't go back in the summer because the heat and humidity are beyond intense. Next time I'd like to go back in the autumn or winter.
Thanks so much for stopping by, Robert! Enjoyed your comment! Have a great week!

Ron, only 33 days until autumn! Much like you, I am done with summer and look forward to all the good stuff that comes with autumn - stunning foliage, pumpkin spice everything, soup, fall fashion, HALLOWEEN, crisp air, sweaters, scarves, and being cozy. I've been reading online since last month that so many people feel the same way this year. They are looking forward to the change of season.
ReplyDeleteTrue. There is something "off" about this summer. I've never been a fan of summer, but this year even more so. Weird energy. Tension. And the media has a lot to do with it. They are forcefeeding fear and anger.
LOVE that autumn bucket list! Oh, and that house too. So cute!
Thank you for starting my day off with a smile, Ron! xoxo
Hola, Denise!
ReplyDeleteI freaking LOVE your list of all the good stuff that comes with autumn!!!! Isn't fall fashion the best? I can't wait to start seeing people wearing coats, scarves, gloves, boots, and lots of leather and wool. And the all the gorgeous colors!
I've noticed the same thing online. In fact, I've been following someone on Instagram who has been posting images of autumn on their feed since JUNE!
"And the media has a lot to do with it. They are forcefeeding fear and anger."
You got that right! The media has been nothing but firestarters. I would love to go back to the time when reporters/journalists simply reported the news without putting their "slant" on it.
Isn't that house adorable? It reminded me of a gingerbread house!
Thanks so much for stopping by this morning, Denise! Have a great day and week!

Happy Augtober, Ron! What a nice way to start my morning. Enjoy this post while have my coffee and yogurt with granola.God, I am so ready for the change of seasons. Bring on Autumn AND Winter! I love them both.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that with the change of season, they'l be a change of all the negativity running through this country at the moment. And not only this country, but everywhere.
That photograph of Upper Black Eddy, PA. is stunning!
Bring on AUTUMN!
Btw, that white bean soup with lemon and orzo looks delicious. I will have to try the recipe.
Greetings, Clair!
ReplyDeleteIt's so ironic about your yogurt with granola because I have the same thing in the morning. I use a plain Greek yogurt that I get at Trader Joe's, and then sprinkle it (heavily) with a granola that has coconut in it. I think I got the granola at Mom's Organic Market on sale months ago.
"Bring on Autumn AND Winter! I love them both."
Me too. I love them both. In fact, they are my favorite seasons. I like spring too, but it seems to be the shortest of all the seasons and then it immediately goes to summer.
Yes, I also hope that with the change of season, there will also be a change in the overall energy in the world. Like you said, it's not only this country but everywhere.
You know, I've never been to Upper Black Eddy, PA, but I found that photo online and was so impressed with its beauty. Pennsylvania is such a gorgeous state. And I never fully understood that until I moved away and then returned.
That soup is incredible! I made it last week and may make it again this week. I love the lemony flavor mixed with turmeric.
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a fantastic day and week!

Oh, Ron, I feel your pain! I've noticed the same thing, that this summer feels "off." I guess we can blame it on politics, or the economy, or just general frustration, but yes, people definitely are angrier and harder to get along with.
ReplyDeleteHow I love your Fall photos -- every last one! I could live in that first house, but the second one (by the lake) is awfully appealing, too. And the graphic of all the Fall things to do? Well, that's fabulous, and I can hardly wait for sweater weather (and jeans and boots!). This morning, in fact, was chilly enough that I wore a light jacket to walk the Monk, and I was hoping we could share some of that with you later in the week (when we're supposed to reach "feels like" temps near 100 again, ugh).
Happy Pre-Autumn to you, too! xx
Hello there, Debbie!
ReplyDelete"I've noticed the same thing, that this summer feels "off."
Not only in the comments here, but also people that I talk with everyday are saying the same thing. I think it's caused by a combination of things, but yes, politics being a major influence. And also the media.
" but the second one (by the lake) is awfully appealing, too. "
Yes, is that second one incredibly appealing? Pure perfection~
"This morning, in fact, was chilly enough that I wore a light jacket to walk the Monk"
Same here! In fact, I just came in from being outside all morning and afternoon; savoring it. This morning it was in the 60s! OMG, I'm in heaven! And like you, next Monday it goes back into the 90s - UGH!
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Enjoy this cooler weather and have a grrrrrreat week!

Ron, my girlfriend and I both said what you just expressed in this post earlier in the summer that something did feel "off". And it's only gotten more intense as the summer moved forward. I think it most definitely is due to the crazy political landscape, but also the news media. People seem more tense.
ReplyDeleteBut in spite of that, I am looking forward to the Fall so much. We need a change right now. What I like about Fall is that things seem to slow down and become more introspective. Hopefully it will cause people to reflect and rethink. HOPEFULLY.
I am loving the images you shared of you favorite autumn delights. I am so looking forward to Fallfest where I live. I really enjoy the Farmer's Market. We both enjoy walking around, sipping mulled cider and looking at all the delicious fall food. We usually pick a few pumpkins to carve later in the month.
Autumn is the best time of the year, isn't it? Hey, did you get cooler weather today? The temperature suddenly dropped last night and when I woke up this morning, it literally felt like the first day of fall! I wore a light jacket to work.
Beautiful fall images, Ron!
Hiya, Matt!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, much of it has to do with the crazy politcal landscape right now. And it's infused with the news media who is keeping the craziness going. I call them, Fire Starters. And they are all guilty of it.
And I love what you shared here...
"What I like about Fall is that things seem to slow down and become more introspective. Hopefully it will cause people to reflect and rethink. HOPEFULLY."
Fall does cause things to slow down and become more introspective, and we need that now. I also like how things get quieter in autumn, especially living in a noisy city like Philadelphia. This summer has been insane with the noise levels. I have to sleep with a "white noise" machine to block out all the outside noise. I'm on the 21st floor and even I can hear it on the street level.
"We both enjoy walking around, sipping mulled cider and looking at all the delicious fall food. We usually pick a few pumpkins to carve later in the month."
Meeeeeeeeeeee too! And this year I'm going to take a day trip out to Swarthmore because they have a Fallfest every year. I have gone the past several years, but I want to go back this year.
Yes!....we too got a nice little cool-snap today. The temperature went down into the 60s, can you believe that? I spent most of the day OUTDOORS, savoring it.
Thanks so much for stopping by, Matt! Wish you and your girlfriend and fabulous week!
X
That's right, Ron. I totally forgot about your living in Japan!? And thanks for the tip - if I do visit, I will be sure not to go summertime. I have also tried the fig butter at TJ's. Delicious!
ReplyDeleteSpring, Autumn, or Winter would be my choice if I ever go back. But Summer? Nooooooo way. Although, in spite of the heat and humidity, I had an A-MAZING time!
ReplyDeleteRon, I immediately thought of you yesterday when hubby and I stepped outside to walk the dog and felt that GLORIOUS cool air hit my face! The two of us simultaneously said, "It feels like FALL!" Wasn't it wonderful? And today too. The weekend gets hot again, but I don't care because I know that fall is just around the corner.
ReplyDeleteWhat a timely post and the photographs you shared could be more perfect. God, I how I can't wait for the change of leaves. To me, there is nothing better than fall. It's a party for the senses! Got to visit Yardley, it looks beautiful. How long a drive is it?
I too can feel the tension in the air. The city has an overwhelming sense of being pissed off and defensive. And I don't even want to think about what it's going to be like before the election. And it doesn't matter who wins, the shit is going to fly.
Thank you for sharing this, Ron. You brightened up my week! xo
Greetings, Elaine!
ReplyDeleteDidn't that cool air feel AMAZING? I spent the majority of the day outside, savoring it. It felt so good NOT to sweat. And yes, today too. I'm getting read to head outside to run a few errands. I've got to home by 2:30 PM because I have a Zoom call at 3 for work, or I'd stay out there all day. Yes, I did see that this weekend gets hot again. BUMMER! :( But this break felt so good. And like you said, fall is just around the corner.
"To me, there is nothing better than fall. It's a party for the senses! "
I LOVE how you said that! It IS a party for the senses!
Doesn't Yardley look fantabulous? I haven't been there since I was a kid, so I can't wait to visit again. By train, it takes about 55 minutes from the city. And by car, about 40 minutes.
" And I don't even want to think about what it's going to be like before the election. And it doesn't matter who wins, the shit is going to fly."
You are soooooooooooo correct! Especially in this city.
Thanks for stopping by today, my friend! Always great to see ya! Enjoy the rest of the week and this beautiful weather!
X
I m SO ready for fall. These pictures just sealed it for me. So beautiful. You find the most beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteThis summer (at least here) was humid almost all of June and July, so I think everyone is over summer. I'm ready to open windows, see the leaves changing, make pumpkin bread, watch Gilmore Girls....
Love that you love fall as much as I do. Here's to manifesting cooler weather! 😘❤️🍂
"I m SO ready for fall."
ReplyDeleteMeeeeeeeeeeeee too, Kari!
"This summer (at least here) was humid almost all of June and July, so I think everyone is over summer. I'm ready to open windows, see the leaves changing, make pumpkin bread, watch Gilmore Girls...."
Yes! Yes! Yes! And it was the same here, June and (especially) July were the two most intense months this summer. I am so glad for the nice "cool" break we're getting at the moment.
Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a fabulous weekend!
And Cheers to fall!
