Guess what?

We FINALLY got snow!

When I woke up Monday morning and opened the mini blinds, I immediately started jumping up and down and clapping my hands as if I had just seen Santa Claus. It was SNOWING!

I took a quick shower, moisturized my face and body, dressed in my winter attire (including my snow boots), and walked to Trader Joe's to grab some groceries. When I got there, I felt like I was one of only a handful of people in the store, so I did my shopping and got out in less than 10 minutes.

When I returned to my apartment, I made a delicious avocado and veggie wrap with hummus and sprouts before heading back outside to take pictures.

FYI - back in December, I treated myself to a new cell phone because I had my other one for a little over three years. Not only was the battery losing power quickly, but the phone was getting so slow. Also, the touch screen hardly worked. I had to tap many times before it would respond.

I found a Motorola Moto G 5G on sale on their website. I got the phone AND the protective case for only $183.00 and FREE shipping. They delivered it in only two days. Like my previous phone, I purchased it unlocked and transferred all the data myself.

One great feature on this new phone is the camera. I liked the camera on my other phone, but this one is much better. It's got many more options when you're in manual mode.

Below are some photographs I took that day. The temperature was in the low 20s with gusty winds. We got 4-5 inches of snow. And I spent 2 hours outside, enjoying every single minute!

Here's one of my very favorite furry park creatures...

Independence Hall...

The following three photos I took while walking through Society Hill. I love the old Colonial-style homes...

Aren't they beautiful?

Yes, I was BEYOND happy, excited, bonkers, and euphoric about finally getting snow.
 Can you tell?...

And here is a brief clip...

❄❅❆ Happy Winter, Everyone! ❆❅❄

P.S. I just saw on the weather report that we're getting more snow on Saturday!

  1. Ron, my husband and I were thinking of you on Monday with the heavy snow we got. Can you believe how LONG it lasted? The only negative thing about snow and living in a city is that it doesn't stick for long. My friends who live outside of Philly still have a lot of snow around them.

Your photos (as always) are superb! I know you're not fond of this city, but you're photographs always bring out the beauty. Yes, this city has a lot of trashy areas for sure. But you also share its beauty as well.

I love Society Hill. God, if we could afford it, that's where we'd live. Its one of the only areas that hasn't been trashed. And I sure hope it stays that way.

And oh my God, that photos of you are a hoot! I love your expressions. I also enjoyed the video clip. I only wish you sang the whole song. Nice voice, Ron!

Hey, did you hear that we are getting more snow this weekend? I think they said Saturday. But not as much as Monday. Who cares, I'll take it. And I know you'll be enjoying it as well, dear man! xo

  2. Damn Ron, that's an awesome price for the phone and case. Especially one with a great camera. The photos you took are really, really beautiful. And you transferred the data and SIM card yourself? I'm impressed!

Don't you love squirrels? I think they're the cutest things. I wish I could have one as a pet. Do you feed them in the park?

I really like that shot of the steam coming up from the ground. And yes, those homes are lovely. They have so much history. You don't see construction like that anymore.

The clip of you singing Let it Snow? Priceless!

We got snow here as well. A LOT. And I see in the forecast that we've got more coming on Friday and possibly through the weekend. Bring it on! Like you, I enjoy winter, snow, and being outside enjoying it.

  3. Yum, that veggie wrap you speak of sounded so delicious! I'm obsessed with avocado and hummus. Tell me, are you a vegetarian, Ron? I am. Although I do eat seafood every once in awhile. I guess you could call me a pescatarian. Lol!

You are so funny in those photos of yourself. I can tell that you REALLY love the colder weather and snow. I do as well. However, in short dosages. I don't like extremes, whether be too cold or too hot.

The photo of the flame is gorgeous. Never been to Philadelphia, but it looks charming.

I hope you get lots more snow, Ron!

  4. Forgot to say in my first comment that I loved your video clip!!!! You can SING too?

  5. Hellooooooooo there, Elaine!

HA! And I was thinking of you and your husband too! I love that you and he love the snow (and winter) as much as I do. I know, it lasted pretty much the whole day. And I didn't think we'd get as much as we did because when it first started in the morning, it was very light.

"The only negative thing about snow and living in a city is that it doesn't stick for long. My friends who live outside of Philly still have a lot of snow around them."

You are so right about that. If you remember, we barely got any snow back in December when it ended up being only a few little flurries. However, a few days later I took the train to Ardmore and couldn't believe the amount of snow they still had on the ground. And Ardmore is only 22 minutes outside the city.

Thank you. I do try to focus on the beauty in the city, but every year it gets more challenging because this city is falling apart. Even some of the nice areas are turning bad. I find it depressing.

Me too, I love Society Hill. And yes, it's still untouched by the trashiness that is overtaking this city.

I made that video using an app on my computer and then uploaded it to YouTube.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did hear that we'll be getting more snow this weekend. I'm getting together with a dear friend (Kelly) for coffee and some catch-up time on Saturday. We'll enjoy the snow!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a great weekend, and enjoy the snow!

  6. Gooooood evening, Daniel!

I know, can you believe that price?!?! The phone was originally $200 just for the phone. But for Christmas, they reduced it to $149.00. And I paid only $20.00 for the case. So in total w/tax, it came to $183. And they didn't charge any shipping!

Yes, I did that myself. It's no big deal though because they have so many great tutorial video's on YouTube that show you how to do it. This is the second time I did it. It was very easy. It just took some time to complete the process.

OMG, I ADORE squirrels! And yes, I do feed them in the park. The ones here in the city are very people-friendly. So, they come right up to you in the park. I hand-feed them.

Philly is an old city with a lot of history. The architecture is certain areas is absolutely beautiful. And Society Hill is one of them.

"And I see in the forecast that we've got more coming on Friday and possibly through the weekend."

We are too! I think they said Saturday. And I can't wait!!!!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Daniel! Always great to read your comments. Have a great rest of your week and weekend!

  7. Hey there, Abby!

Yes, I am a vegetarian, and have been for about 16 years. To be honest, I've never really liked meat. So it was very easy for me to stop. And I don't miss it. I also don't eat seafood/fish. That's another thing I never really liked. But I still find a lot of other healthy things to eat. I love Mediterranean food.

You like winter too? I would say the majority of people don't. They much prefer being hot than cold. Not me, though. The colder, the better. I think I need to move to Antarctica or Alaska, and live with the penguins. LOL!

Philadelphia does have charm. But it also has a lot of trashy areas as well. I find it to be a very self-distructive city. It creates nice things and then it destroys them. I love the state of Pennsylvania, it's Philadelphia I'm not fond of.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Abby. Have a great rest of your week and weekend!

  8. Aw....thank you, my friend! I made that short clip with an app (Clipchamp) that's on my computer.

  9. Ron, you are so adorable! I don't know anyone on this planet that LOVES snow as much as you do. I could FEEL your excitement and joy throughout this post.

Gorgeous images! They make me miss living in the Northeast. God how I miss fall and winter. SO glad you finally got snow in Philly. I had seen on the news that you (and NY and Jersey) were going to get some white stuff, but wow...it's more than I though it would be. How much did you get?

The clip of you singing is so damn cute! You have a nice voice, Ron!

And I'm happy for you! Hope you get MUCH more snow this winter! xox

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hola, Denise!

I know, I'm OBSESSED with snow! When I woke Monday morning and saw what was happening outside, I truly JUMPED for joy! Something about all the white stuff falling from the sky makes me feel all excited. I find snow MAGICAL!

Me too! We had a very, very, very small sprinkle of snow back in December, but it melted the second it hit the pavement, so it didn't stay long. The burbs got more than we did in the city.

Thank you. I made the video with my new cell phone camera, and then made the video with an app on my computer called, Clipchimp. It was so easy.

Yup, we're getting more snow this weekend (Saturday) and I can't wait!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaaaabulous rest of your week and weekend!

  11. Ron, being that I know how much you love snow, I KNEW you'd be posting something this winter. You crack me up with how excited you get when it snows. Especially the first of the season. There's nothing like it, is there? I feel that way too. It feels special!

We got a lot of snow too. I think the whole Northeast got hit with it. And they say that we're getting more this weekend. And I'm glad because we got cheated last winter with barely any snowfall. I'm hoping we make up for it this winter.

Fantastic photographs! And congrats on getting a new cell phone at such a great price. And I can tell it's got a good camera from your pictures. I love that house with the blue shutters. It looks like a beautiful neighborhood.

And I'm going to think of you every time I hear the song, "Let It Snow!"

Let's hear it for more SNOW!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Good evening, Robert!

I know, snow (particularly the first snowfall) makes me feel like a kid! And like you shared...special. And I know that other people feel that way too because on Monday while I was walking through our parks and city streets, I could sense the joy coming from the people. Everyone seemed happy and enjoying the snow.

"And they say that we're getting more this weekend. And I'm glad because we got cheated last winter with barely any snowfall. I'm hoping we make up for it this winter."

I agree, we got cheated last year. It snowed only two times here in Philly. And in those two times, it barely snowed. I actually thought we were going to get a repeat of last year this year because we had an unusually warm fall and winter.

I'm soooooooooo happy with this new phone. It's a really good phone (and camera) at a great price. I got lucky!

I love that house with the blue shutters. That whole street is beautiful.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Robert! Have a fabulous rest of your week and weekend filled with SNOW!

  13. Ron I'm drinking my early morning cup of green tea and enjoying this post so much. Your photographs are gorgeous and your snow passion made me smile.

Don't you love getting a new phone and adjusting to how the new software works? The first thing I do when I get a new cell phone is delete all the BLOATWARE. They always install so much crap that you'll never use, which takes up so much space - delete, delete, delete.

I live in the Midwest, which got anywhere from 9-12 inches this week. Last year we didn't get much at all, so I think we're making up for it this winter. I don't mind it though because I grew up here and am use to intense snow in the winter.

Love your photo collage and singing clip. I'll be thinking of you on Saturday, knowing that you're smiling about getting more snow. Enjoy! x

  14. Morning, Candice!

Funny you mentioned having your morning cup of tea because I'm sitting here having my morning cup of coffee. I usually have a cup in the morning and then a cold green tea in the afternoon.

"The first thing I do when I get a new cell phone is delete all the BLOATWARE. They always install so much crap that you'll never use, which takes up so much space - delete, delete, delete."

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do the same thing! All the freaking bloatware they install is useless. To me anyway. And some of the apps you can't uninstall, you can only turn them off. It's like they force you to have them. I always keep my cell phone apps at a minimum, so that they don't take up a ton of space.

WOW...you got 9-12 inches?!?! And you're right, last year the States didn't get much snowfall. Which made me think we weren't going to get much this year either. My favorite season is slowly fading away, being replaced by my least favorite season - SUMMER. Lol!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Candice! And please send me MORE snow from your area. I'll gladly take it. Ha!

  15. We’ve been getting slammed with lake effect snow, so there must be 15-18 inches out there. I count 23 icicles out the window next to me. It gets old fast for me, Ron! At least I see some sun today. As I’m afraid to walk outside in the snow (I can’t risk falling with osteoporosis) I met a friend at a large two story indoor mall on Tuesday and we walked for 1.5 hours. That felt great, as I think I only walked once in December.

Society Hill is just gorgeous! It reminds me of Williamsburg and I love the winter berries in that outdoor arrangement. I’ve always wanted to visit Colonial Williamsburg at Christmas. All the decor is supposed to be natural.

My husband and I were just talking about how the squirrels and chipmunks must hibernate because we never see them in the winter. However, we keep seeing a fox on our outdoor cameras, so maybe the critters are in hiding!

Yeah to new phones with good cameras! Have a great rest of your week, Ron! XO

    ReplyDelete
  16. OMG, 15-18 inches?!?!? That sounds like something you'd see in ALASKA! Cities don't get as much because of the heat that rises from the city itself. However, when I go out to burbs for work, I can see that they get much more snow and it lingers. City snow doesn't last long.

" I count 23 icicles out the window next to me. It gets old fast for me, Ron! At least I see some sun today."

Yes, it's bright and sunny here today as well. The past few days have been more of an overcast, which I think makes it feel all the more colder.

"I met a friend at a large two story indoor mall on Tuesday and we walked for 1.5 hours. That felt great, as I think I only walked once in December."

Good for you, at least you're able to get out and walk because you and I are big on walking. And a mall is a great idea! Even here, the sidewallks have been very slippery because of the ice. Although, I will say that the city has been diligent about salting them. But even still, there were a few times when I almost slipped.

I think because city squirrels rely on being fed by people like me, they are more out in the open. And how cool that you've seen a fox. They are so cute!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a great rest of your week and upcoming weekend!

  17. Ron, I just wanted you to know that I always check out your recipe highlights on your sidebar whenever I stop by to read your posts. You've shared some really great ones. I'm going to try the Red Chimichurri Pasta one you recently added. Looks so delicious! And perfect for this time of year. Thanks!

  18. You are soooooo welcome, Candice! Happy to know you've tried various recipes. I've been following some really great foodie blogs and Instagram feeds, where I've discovered some excellent ones. I'm a huge pasta lover, so I wanted to share this one, which I made earlier this week. It's so YUMMY!

  19. Oh Ron, don't hate me but winter, cold, and snow are not things I can deal with very well. I find winter excruciatingly painful. I hibernate until Spring, like a groundhog.

I so wish I were like you and could enjoy winter because you make it sound and look like the best season ever. Your photos are truly beautiful. And just looking at them, I can see why you love this time of year. Those homes in Society Hill are stunning. I love that architecture. I like anything that looks old/historical.

Your facial expressions are adorable. And your voice is beautiful. Baritone? Tenor?

Enjoy the snow, Ron! I'll gladly send you some of mine. Lol! XOX

  20. Gooood morning, Clair!

No worries, my friend. I don't hate you at all. I think the majority of people feel like you about winter, the cold, and the snow. They much prefer basking on a beach with sunshine and warmth in the summer. I know this is hard to fathom, but how you feel about the cold (excruciatingly painful), is exactly how I feel about summer. And like you in winter, I hybernate in the summer because I can't tolerate heat and humid. My body LOVES the cold. It functions better. I also feel more mentally alert and creative when It's cold.

"Those homes in Society Hill are stunning. I love that architecture. I like anything that looks old/historical."

Aren't they stunning? Me too, I like old and historical because it's looks LIVED-IN.

Thank you. I'm a baritone. But when I was younger, I was a tenor. My voice lowered as I aged.

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing, my friend. Have a great rest of your week and weekend!

  21. YAY!! I love this post! It’s so beautiful there with all the snow! AND you’re getting more this weekend??

We don’t have any snow here, if you can believe it! The snowstorm was south of Chicago, and we don’t usually get lake effect snow here. Indiana gets it on the southern tip of Lake Michigan. But it’s frigid cold, so it definitely feels like winter!

Society Hill is gorgeous! That’s exactly how I picture Philadelphia in my mind for some reason!

Your phone camera takes amazing pictures!

I love your video!! You make me so happy, my friend.

And the squirrel! I can’t forget about him! A squirrel came right up to my window next to my writing desk this morning! I love that we both have a thing for squirrels. (The dogs love them too, but not in the same way!)

Wishing you a wonderful rest of your week! I hope we get more snow pictures and videos next week! 😘❤️

  22. Hellooooooooooo there, Kari!

Yes, an we are getting more this weekend (Saturday), which is when my dear friend Kelly and I will be hanging out. Looking forward to it!

No, I CANNOT believe you didn't get any snow yet?!? Especially where YOU live. I know, it's frigid cold everywhere it seems. But do you know what? I've been outside walking in it every day because I truly the cold. And it's not only been cold, but also VERY windy. Today while walking to Target, I thought the wind was going to blow me into the air like the Flying Nun. LOL!

I'm so happy with this new phone, especially the camera quality.

"I can’t forget about him! A squirrel came right up to my window next to my writing desk this morning! I love that we both have a thing for squirrels."

Don't ya just LOVE squirrels? I think they are the cutest little things. I love to hand-feed them in my favorite park. In case you're interested, here is a post I wrote back in 2020 about my love of squirrels. I think you might enjoy it.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaaaaabulous rest of your week and weekend. And I'll send you some of our snow....

  23. Ron, your enthusiasm over snow fascinates me! I think I'd be happier with our snow if it were a tad warmer -- temps in the single digits don't make me smile much, ha. We're expected to get another 1-3 inches tomorrow (this, on top of the 9 inches already on the ground). Me? I'm looking forward to Spring!!

Your new phone's camera is GOOD -- the photos are clear, and I know it must have been aggravating to have to keep tapping the old one to wake it up. Society Hill is aptly named -- what beautiful buildings! What is that statue with the "eternal flame"? I don't recognize it.

Enjoy your snow, my friend, and don't hate me because I'd rather be warm!! XX

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hey there, Debbie!

"...and don't hate me because I'd rather be warm!!"

No, my friend, I would never hate you for that. MOST people feel that way about cold versus warm. And like you (and others) I used to feel that way. But as I moved into my 40s, my body changed. And now I crave the cold. In my ideal world, it would never get above 55 degrees. I think I need to look into living in either Alaska or Antarctica, sharing space with the penguins. Lol!!!

That statue is of George Washington, which is location in Washington Square Park. And the eternal flame is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier . It's my favorite park in the city, which is located in Society Hill.

Thanks so much for stopping by today, my friend. Have a great rest of your week and weekend.

  25. Ron, I was wondering if Philly was getting the freezing temps and snow that so many of us across the U.S. are. And you ARE! It's been so cold here, but much like you, I prefer it over summer heat.

Awesome photo captures! You really make your city POP! And way to go on getting a new phone with a great camera at such a good price. Is it an android or iPhone? I don't know if Motorola even makes iPhones.

The expression on your face is stellar. Loved the clip too. So expressive!

Even though people like you and I are in the minority, let's enjoy this weather while we have it, right?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Greetings, Barbara!

Yes, we ARE! I was looking at the weather channel last night and saw that it's been like this pretty much everywhere across the U.S. People here are complaining about it, however, not me...I'm outside taking walks everyday, savoring it. We haven't had this kind of winter in a long time, so I'm loving it.

Thanks. It's an android. No, Motorola doesn make iPhones. However, I read online that they are the closest ones to an iPhone. They even look like one.

"Even though people like you and I are in the minority, let's enjoy this weather while we have it, right?"

    RIGHT!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Barbara! Have a superb weekend, and enjoy our weather!

  27. Thanks Ron. And the reason I asked is because I've had iphones for the past 6 years and I'm considering switching over to android because I'm tired of spending the money on a phone that becomes outdated in a matter of months. They used to be such great phones and worth the price. Not anymore.

  28. Ron, we're getting MORE snow later this week (Thursday). Like you, I don't mind the snow or winter. Much rather be cold than hot. I think the whole country is getting hit with this polar vortex. Even parts of Europe are experiencing a much colder winter.

Fantastic photographs! The new camera of yours has a very good quality camera. You can tell from these images. And congrats on getting a good deal. The price of phones (especially iPhones) has gotten out of hand. But then again, so has everything else.

Enjoy the rest of the winter, Ron. I will be too! Enjoyed your clip!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hiya, Matt!

I think you're spot on about that. The whole of America and parts of Europe are being affected by this polar vortex. Me too. I'd much rather be cold (freezing) than hot. We're more snow this week as well. And I saw that on Tuesday the temperature drops to 27 degrees. Yahooooooooooo!

Thanks. I am beyond happy with the camera quality on my new phone. I also like the update software on androids. It seems much faster. You're right, the price of phones has gotten ridiculous. And iPhones? There is no way in hell I would spend that kind of money.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Hope you're having a terrific weekend!
