Post updates by email:

Back when I first started this blog (I think it was within the first two months) I wrote a vent about people wearing sunglasses, not only indoors, but also walking outside in the darkness of night.

Well, apparently no one read my post because I still see people doing it.

I guess you could call this a major pet peeve of mine.

Every time I see someone walking around with sunglasses on where I work, I want to RIP them off their friggin’ face and scream, “WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE….KARL LAGERFELD??”

OMG….it makes my blood boil like tar on a hot summer roof.

I’ve actually gotten to the point when a customer walks up to me and asks for my assistance, I will ask them to remove their sunglasses so I can see their eyes. I don’t like talking to someone without having eye to eye contact. And I don’t particularly enjoy talking to my own reflection in someone’s mirrored aviators.

Friday night while I was coming home from work, I saw a woman walking towards me wearing a pair of sunglasses.

Ok, now help me with this because maybe I’m not seeing a reason.

WHY would someone walk around in darkness wearing sunglasses?

I ask you…who can see while wearing sunglasses at night?

I mean if it were me, I’d be colliding into trash cans, mail boxes, and tripping over dog leashes.

A few years ago, I worked with a guy who would walk into work wearing his sunglasses and kept them on for practically the whole day. And what amazed me was that the store management said nothing about it. The worse part is that he wore a pair of sunglasses with a LARGE gold Dolce and Gabbana logo emblazed on either side of the frames that were the size of a turnpike billboard. He wanted everyone to think that he flew to Milan, Italy and purchased them from Dolce and Gabbana themselves, but we all knew he had secretly bought them from a Vietnamese street vendor for $2.50 and came with a spring roll.

I’ve come to the conclusion that people who never take off their sunglasses are doing it for three reasons.

1) They’re potheads and they don’t want anyone to see their bloodshot eyes.

2) They have delusions of grander; thinking they’re Hollywood movie stars and don’t want people asking for their autograph.

3) They’re Italian Mafia.

And then there are those people who are doing it for all THREE reasons…..

  1. Hey Ron,

I have to admit-- I wear my sunglasses... I wear my sunglasses... I wear my sunglasses... So I can SEE!! But, not at night, b/c I have HORRIBLE night vision. I don't wear my prescription glasses much (only for driving) and I don't drive anymore except when in the States. I wear my prescription sunglasses EVERYWHERE, though... just so that I can see clearly... Inside, too... and sometimes even so that I can hide my eyes so I can check out people without their knowing! I always wondered why people wear their sunglasses at night, but I do understand wearing them indoors, as I often forget I have mine on when I am inside of places...

    Take care,

  2. Ron,
While reading your post all I could think of was that stupid
80's song, "I WEAR MY SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT", That was the corniest song of the times I swear! It is NOT cool to wear sunglasses when it is dark out or indoors unless you are blind, not to mention that it is extremely RUDE! Maybe these people hate themselves so much that they don't want you to see their eyes (the eyes are the windows to the soul). Great post, buddy, have a great day!

  3. I don't know why the other people aren't paying heed to the instructions...
I mean, I ceased donning sunglasses inside as a result of that post!

    Gosh.
    Silly people...

    ;-)

    k....LOL...I mighta made that up.

  4. HA!

I have to confess: I wear sunglasses at times that might seem inappropriate. Like at night: to cut down on the glare of traffic lights that would otherwise blind me. Or on rainy days, when even the the darkest skies are still too bright. AND at night, when the traffic lights' glare seems to blind me.

I thought I had a rare eyeball disease, but my opthalmologist assured me this sensitivity is normal. In redheads. I am a brunette, but whatever.

I'm also a pothead, so there you go.

  5. hahaha, Ron! U;kk be syre ti taje tgen iff wgeb U vusut! You're right! Look at those darn typos because of them! ;)

    Interpretation:

"I'll remember to take them off when I visit!"

Wholeheartedly agree with your pet, Ron! :))

  6. Oh I am so with you on this one.

    But..there are other reasons:
    1. they are stuck in the 80's
(because they're "future's so bright they gotta wear shades".)
    2. they are stuck in the 90's
(because they have to "wear my sunglasses at night".)
    3. they are our age (or older) and hiding the bags under their eyes because they just can't party like they used to.
    or
    4. they are old age (or older) and they don't want you to see the signs of the cosmetic surgery they just had because of they way they used to party.

Still all in all it is incredibly annoying!!

  7. Hey Ron! Great, thought-provoking post, as always....so, since you've asked...here are my thoughts:

    1) The gal has no makeup on, knows full well she looks like crap, would simply DIE if she ran into anyone she knew, but that Barney's sale isn't gonna last forever, my friend!

    2) He thought it was a sty...but it's getting worse, not better. Now, it looks like something horror-movie cosmetics people would PAY to be able to replicate and EVERYONE (including his eye doctor) as begged him to protect others around him from seeing the horror.

3)If she lets sunlight hit her eyes everyone will see the botched plastic surgery job her brother-in-law's gardener's friend recommended. "Dr.Raul" promised she'd look 20 years younger.

I'm with you hunny...I can't stand it when people refuse to make eye contact. I just prefer to think they have their reasons.....
    xoxo

  8. ahhhh yes!!! our parallel opinions continue

the aviator glasses really bug me

the only thing is this - I have a friend who has an eye condition where even the smallest amount of glare bothers her plus her eyes tear all the time and people always ask her what's wrong so she wears tinted (dark) glasses

but that is the minority, most people are just asshats

  9. D-oh... You're SO on to me! (haha!) I'm not telling which of the three categories I fit. lol

I forget to take mine off sometimes. I have magnetic ones that clip to my glasses and they are a pain in the keister because they're so small. I'm always losing them in my coat pocket.

That said, I *always* take them off as soon as I notice they're still on. I have the same pet peeve about not being able to see someone's eyes.

Hope you're having a great Monday my friend!

  10. Maybe they're not sunglasses at all, but instead x-ray vision glasses. Did she smile coyly as she passed by?

  11. Bonjour Leesa!

and sometimes even so that I can hide my eyes so I can check out people without their knowing!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    Oh, that's sooo funny!

At least your honestly about it!

Yes, I can totally understand if they're prescription sunglasses. Ya know, I never really thought about that, so thanks for sharing that with me. Also, I've seen those sunglasses that change color and get darker when outdoors, but will fade when indoors.

Anyway, my friend...thank you for sharing on this post!

Hope your having a FAAABULOUS time in Portugal!

    Thanks for stopping by!

    Ciao!

  12. Haha....it makes me wonder people what are thinking when I see them wear sunglasses when they don't need to. But it doesn't annoy the crap out of me like it seems to do to you. XD I just chalk it up to they have sensitive eyes or they just want to seem "cool" when really it's not.

  14. Good Morning Brndoutw8tress!

OMG...I TOTALY forgot about that 80's tune!!!!

As soon as you mentioned it, I could hear it in my head!! Now that song will be with me all day!!!

    HA!

I can understand wearing sunglasses that are very light (so you can see a persons eyes) but the one's that bother me are the really DARK ones where I feel like I'm talking to a WALL.

But wearing them at night, I just can't understand?!?

"the eyes are the windows to the soul".

    You said it, girl!

Thanks for stopping by, my friend!

    Have a GREAT Monday!

I know...I can't understand after my first post, why people all over the world weren't heeding my instructions.

    Damn them!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Well....maybe they'll listen to me after this post.

    (I doubt it though)

    Silly people...

Always great seeing ya, dear lady!

  16. Hello JD!

I'm also a pothead, so there you go.

    Bwhahahahahahahaha!

    You GO, girl!

Well...I'm actually learning all sorts of things about why people wear sunglasses at night...so thank you for sharing that. I never thought about the glare from traffic lights.

I have light blue eyes, so I need to wear sunglasses on a sunny day - definitely. When I lived in Florida the sun was murder on my eyes.

    Have a great day, JD!

And thanks so much for dropping by!

  17. You won't find me wearing sunglasses at all. I'm too cheap to buy a prescription pair, I hate wearing my clip-on shades, and I'm certainly not going to be found wearing the kind of sunglasses that go over top of regular glasses. You will, however, find my 80-something parents wearing them. They look like two giant insects when seen out together in these. We've decided to find it cute. They do not wear them indoors because, giant bugs or not, even they have their standards.

  18. Good Morning Petra!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!

    OMG...that was FUNNY!!

I've gotten to the point where I need my reading glasses on constantly, now. Being on this damn computer so much is really doing a number on my eyesight. I can see FAR, but I can't see CLOSE.

Oh well...I'm 54, so I guess that also has something to do with it, right?

Always so nice seeing ya, dear lady.

Enjoy your day and thank you for dropping by!

You're #3 was also shared by one of the reasons anonymous mentioned!!

    ....Parallel Lives!

Every time I see someone wearing aviator sunglasses I can't help but think of the Village People!

    HAHAHAHAHA!

Yes, I totally understand people wearing sunglasses for medical/physical reasons. It's the ones who wear them for an "effect" or to "hide their eyes" that bug me.

    Thanks for sharing, dear lady!

Gosh....I'm so anal about making eye to eye contact with someone, that I'll actually take my sunglasses off even if I'm outside on a sunny day, while talking to someone on the street. I just feel like sunglasses put up a barrier.

Thanks oddles for stopping by today, Penny!

  31. You'd like my friend's kids. When they were younger I'd come in the house and they'd immediately insist that I take off my sunglasses, because I was inside and you don't wear sunglasses inside - not even on top of your head. I always take off sunglasses inside, but that's where I always put them. It keeps the hair out of my face. Seriously, those kids were hardcore - I always had to remember to pack a hair band when I went over there.

    OMG...how funny!

It sounds like my mother who insist people take off their hats when sitting at the dinner table.

Well...if you and I should ever meet, you are certainly A-OK to wearing them on top of your head.

    Even I do that.

Thanks so much for dropping by.

  33. It's just because their future is so NOT bright, they gotta wear shades...

But I agree. Unless they are blind or hiding a black eye, take the MF's off.

  43. well, hate to disappoint lovie but i wear mine everywhere too, inside outside, if they are on, they usually pretty much stay on unless i am inside for awhile, like shopping and even then, sometimes, i don't bother taking them off...i have a terrible aversion to the sun now because you get physically addicted to them...did you know that? so then you HAVE to wear them outside, that doesn't excuse wearing them inside but even in a very bright room with lots of windows--well sort of mine in the middle of a sunny day in the great room--i want to put them on and have on occasion...and i don't need them to really see anymore either, my eyes somehow fixed themselves....i know...weird...

It's so great to see ya, my friend!

I've discovered through sharing this post that there are MANY people who share the same as you when it comes to being "light sensitive", so I can totally understand that.

What I think I really mean by this post, are the people who wear them ONLY for the "effect" and use them to "hide" their eyes, so you can't see them.

    That drives me insane!

Anyway, my friend...thanks so much for stopping by and sharing on this post.
