The sweet image you see above is from Herman Turnip, author of Terrible Analogies.

This is a photograph of he and his son Tyler, hanging out together; watching TV.

When I saw this photo posted on Hermans' blog, I felt like it totally epitomized the essence of a fathers' love. So, I asked him if I could share it on my Father’s Day post, and he graciously consented.

Thank you, Herman!

For me, there is nothing more touching than seeing a father with child. It is a beautiful combination of strength and gentleness.

Whenever I think of a fathers' love, I see a male lion with both his strong protective instinct, and his ability to also be tender and caring.

Here is a poem I found on the Internet, that truly defines what makes a dad.

What Makes A Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,

The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,

The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad

I know it’s a bit early, but I would like to take this time to wish all you wonderful men out there, a Happy Father’s Day.

Please know that you are loved and appreciated, and that you make a powerful imprint on the hearts and lives of your children.

I would like to close this post by sharing a TV commercial I found on You Tube, that made me laugh my ass off. Notice the subtle expressions on the father and sons’ face - they’re priceless.

*please turn your speaker volume up.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY, GUYS!

Note: Since I will be working additional hours this week, I’ve decided to take the week off from blogging. I look forward to seeing everyone next Monday. Have a great week, peeps….X

  2. What a lovely post Ron. I wrote a blog for my father titled "Unforgettable"...I hope when you have time you will be able to read it. My dad is one of the most important men in my life and I believe it is because of him I can relate to other men so well. You are right... there is nothing like a father's love. They give strength and protection to a child and somehow always make you feel like nothing bad could ever happen to you.
I will miss your blog all week but I know what it is like to be busy. By the way..do you watch "True Blood." I think you would love it if you don't. Anyhow..have a fabu week and I will catch you next week. Enjoy!!!

  5. I've only recently re... discovered my Dad! He is such a great person. A lot like me. Simple, gentle and humble. Patient and sportive as well. Talking to him is different from chatting with Mom, but it is so precious.

  6. Oh Ron, this is beautiful. The poem is spot on, absolutely beautiful. YEah, I laughed my butt off at the commercial...it reminded me of my husband and the dog. The dog rips one, sniffs her rear and gets up and moves across the room! Sometimes, she looks at hubby like she thinks he did it and moves!

  7. Good Morning Jeff!

    You're sooooo welcome, my friend!

"Being a dad is the greatest gift and biggest challenge all rolled up into one."

Even though I'm not a father, something tells me that you are soooo right. I imagine the challenge is that "delicate balance" between telling your child what to do, and allowing them to discover for themselves.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Jeff!

    Always great too see ya!

    Have a super week! Happy Father's Day....X

  8. Goooood Morning Susie!

Yes, absolutely! I have you on my reader, so I will definitely read your Father's Day post. Just the title alone sounds beautiful!! Reminds me of the duet between Nat King Cole and Natalie - LOVE that song!

"My dad is one of the most important men in my life and I believe it is because of him I can relate to other men so well."

Sooooo right you are, dear lady! I've always said that the relationship between a father and child, and mother and child, prepare the child how well they relate to that gender.

YES!!! I love True Blood! I don't have cable TV, so I rent the series on DVD. I have such an attraction for anything "vampire." OMG, the show is also VERY sexy, isn't it???? Woo! Woo!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by today, Susie!

I always enjoy sharing with you!

Have grrrrrrrrrrrrrreat week and I'll see ya on Monday!

  22. Ya know, I watch the other other boy with the bug and I'm so grateful she was graced with him for a dad. He loved the dickens outta that little girl--and the poem, epitomizes it well.

Herman and his wee one remind me of the bug and the other other boy. It's just love, yaknow?

I grew up with my father doing the parenting. Dad's Day was a huge deal cuz he was single parenting it best he could. He musta done okay--I turned out not so bad. LOL

Happy Dad's day to you, sir. I 'parent' a lot of people, as I'm sure you do, whether you 'fathered' them or not.

    You turned out a GEM!

I really have so much respect and admiration for single parents, because I know it cannot be easy. After my mother passed away, my father did the same for two years. God love him!

  25. OK, that video cracked me up beyond all reason, BUT!.... is that an American commercial? Cause it was almost TOO funny and cool to be from the U.S. On the other hand, it was a bunch of farting, so it TOTALLY could be from our beloved country, the land of the free, home of the brave, etc. etc. etc...

  31. Ron,
As I sit here crying all over my keyboard, I want to express my gratitude for the post you have placed here. Being a father is the single most euphoric event in my life. Having raised 5 boys and seeing the children that have grown into men and fathers themselves gives rise to meaning of eternity. I have been blessed. Two boys are of my blood line and three are step sons. They all have a special place in my existence. My oldest son who has gone on another journey on the other side was my teacher my mentor my spirit guide. He taught me that we are spiritual beings having a human experience.
My second boy, is now a father himself and he is learning what it takes to raise an individual in this place we call Earth. He has the patience and the humor and the love to succeed in life.
The third man is now part of the business world and lives a life full of order and completeness. He continues to give of himself and ask nothing in return.
The fourth guy is in California pursuing an acting career. He has talent and he loveS to have fun. He is creative and does his own thing.
The youngest is in the Coast Guard. He is very intelligent and can solve most of life's problems as they arise. He is married and has taken over the role of provider in a very respectful and loving way.

I am truly a blessed man.

Ron, Thank you for your post and giving me the outlet to my kids lives for the world to read.

To all the dad's out there

    HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

  32. Goooood Morning Dave!

I was sooooo hoping you would stop by to read this post, because I was especially thinking of YOU when I put this together.

Whenever I hear you speak of your eldest son, I get very teary-eyed. I can tell through the energy of your words, how "special" a soul he was/is. I can feel your strong bond in my heart.

Oh wow...I had no idea you raised 5 boys!!! Each one of them sounds so wonderful and unique. I also didn't realize you had a son who is pursuing an acting career - how COOL!! You and your wife must be so proud of them, and they of you!

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing on this post, my friend!

You've added the "true essence" of a fathers' love!

    Bless you, Dave!

    Happy Father's Day!
