Post updates by email:

Okay, I haven’t officially shared my annual "I Hate Summer Because I Hate To Be Hot" post yet, so here it is…..

Actually, it hasn’t been too-too bad this summer up until last week. Friday, the heat index reached a WHOPPING 115 degrees, and the humidity was so THICK I needed an oxygen tank and nitroglycerin to stay alive.

And can I just tell you something?

I was in so much physical pain, I would have almost rather been eaten alive by Hannibal Lecter.

The city was like a flaming furnace - my skin felt as if it was literally on fire!

Now I know how my cousins’ Barbie doll felt when I tried to cram her into an Easy-Bake Oven to see if she would bake into a cookie.

I'll tell ya, Barbie doll karma payback is a bitch!

As I was strolling down the streets on Friday, there wasn’t a single soul walking who wasn’t dripping in sweat and GROANING. I could even hear pedestrians on their cell phones, pleading, “I can’t believe how hot it is….I DYING!”

I finally got some relief when I walked into Barnes & Noble and bogarted their A/C by grabbing something to eat and drink in their café. I selected a few books off the shelf and then sat myself on the floor in a cool and secluded corner of the store.

Aaaaaaah!

However, my cool seclusion didn’t last too long because I was sitting by the restroom doors watching countless sweaty people walking by; using the bathroom sink to take a sponge bath.

I kid you not!

Anyhow, I hate this heat more than I hate eating Brussels sprouts, liver, or cilantro. I'm someone who is naturally energetic, but the heat just wipes that out of me. I can’t wait until the fall gets here so I can wear my turtlenecks and jackets, and not have to consume 100 gallons of water everyday so I can replenish all the H2O I’ve sweated out of body. I feel like an unquenchable CAMEL!

Look, I don’t mind sweating but I would rather it be from doing the nasty with Tom Ford, then from this heinous summer heat.

I would like to conclude this post by sharing a short video I created last weekend.

This is the first time I’ve created a video using my new camera and Windows Movie Maker. And holy cow....what a looooooong learning experience that was - YIKES!

Without further ado, I give you….Hot Summer In Philly!

Stay COOL, peeps!

  1. Hi Ronnie,
A round of applause! Yay!! Look at you, the filmmaker! Wooo!!
I enjoyed the trip, hon. Back to Rittenhouse square and all around. I enjoyed that! Yup, there weren't many people out & about in that heat.

I really felt for you guys when we were hearing about all this heat & humidity. I know, you hate it! LOL Barbie Doll Karma payback, indeed. You got hit bad, buddy... You were lucky that you were off work.

I remember B & N at Rittenhouse! I know; we could have stayed hours in that store and I can only imagine with the heat! You could have spent all day in there...

Take it easy and I'll be seeing you soon on the blogs.

  3. Absolutely loved the video, clever you. I've always wanted to jig about to that song - and just did. I KNOW how you feel when it's too hot. Claustrophobia comes to mind. I'm like a wet lettuce when there's too much heat. I couldn't sunbathe to save my life. How I wish I could send some of our cooler weather over your way. We had our summer too early so now that we should be having it we're moaning about cold winds and rain. I'll pray for a change for us both. Wishing you a cooler week.

  4. Ron, the heat has been insane this year for us as well. I swear someone turned the thermostat to "Hell" and forgot to change it back.

I love spring and fall myself. Fall being my favorite of the two. I have the coolest fall clothing that I just can't sport during the spring and summer. Winter, you can have. I HATE being cold.

Hope you have a marvelous week, darlin'!

    XOXO

  5. This was AWESOME! I have no clue how to use movie maker and I haven't attempted it because I know it will take me FOREVER to figure it out. My favorite was the cool scooter lady with the hat! :-)

  6. To think that you used to live in Florida. But maybe your cup has just floweth over... I understand. But the Brussels sprouts... send them to me!

Now on the heat issue... it all, I say aaaaaall has departed Paris! I am wearing a woolen cardi as I type. Coffee to keep me from stiffing-freezing up... well, okay that's too much!

  7. LOVE the vid!!! You might have to send me instructions on how do one!
It was sooooo hot on Friday that hubby's boss called him in the morning to say he was letting everyone go at noon.
The temp read 111 when he got to his truck to come home.
I think bossman was even going to pay them for the whole day (his brain must have been a little melted) so hopefully he remembers come payday. I'd jump up and down in appreciation but have finally cooled off and don't want to exert any energy. Must save what I have because it's supposed to creep back up to 99 by the end of the week.

Have a sweet week. Stay cool.

  9. Great video! Well done :)

You make me feel glad that I live in England with it's cooler climate. I really couldn't live with that much heat. We've had it really hot twice that I can remember, and it was absolutely awful. The second time, Mo and I stayed indoors sitting in front of a huge fan to keep cool. I feel for you.

  12. Hey there Barbara~

Thank you. It only took me FOUR hours to make this 2:44 video - HA!

No, there was hardly anyone on the streets. I took the video on Saturday and was amazed at how naked the city looked.

OY, from Friday until yesterday it's been a furnace here. Last night it rained a bit so it cooled things off a little.

Yeah, lately I've been spending my afternoons in B&N and bogarting their A/C - HA!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by, my friend. Have a wonderful Monday and stay COOL!

Awww...thank you. I decided to try the movie maker on my computer software to add some music, but I had no idea what I was doing. I made a TON of mistakes until I figured it out.

"I've always wanted to jig about to that song - and just did."

    Isn't that a GREAT song?

" I KNOW how you feel when it's too hot. Claustrophobia comes to mind. I'm like a wet lettuce when there's too much heat. I couldn't sunbathe to save my life."

HA! I love it....wet lettuce! Yup....that's a perfect description of how "I" feel too! And claustrophobic!

"How I wish I could send some of our cooler weather over your way. We had our summer too early so now that we should be having it we're moaning about cold winds and rain."

It seems that everywhere in the world people are experiencing a HOT summer - even places where it normally doesn't get hot.

    OMG...I can't WAIT for fall!!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by, dear lady. Stay cool and have a great week!

I love Fall too. I was born in October so I really have a stong connection to Fall. And aren't the Fall clothes/fashion faaaaaaaaabulous? Give me turtlenecks, jackets, and scarves! However, I'm one of those SICKO's who loves Winter too. I think I must have been a penguin in one of my past lives - HA!

"the lady on the scooter bike thingie was timed perfectly to the toot of a horn in the music.'

I know how much you hate the heat. I was going to have you over for dinner, but I'm kinda glad I held off on inviting you. I was all set to make my famous cilantro liver casserole with a side of brussel's sprouts. That would have been a faux pas, I see!

  25. You never cease to amaze me. A movie maker wow! I like how you filmed the city. The music was very fitting. I liked this a lot.
Now as far as the warm (f...ing Hot) weather that is another thing. My sweat was sweating. The heat was just awful and I had a hard time adjusting to what hell is really like. I now have the Guniess Book record on how fast an ice cube can melt while stuck between the cheeks of my ass. Two point 3 seconds. It may be gross but it does the trick. Every time I farted last Friday it resembled the after burn of a super sonic jet.

The heat really played havoc with my mood. My spirit was as wet as my underarms. I too drank enough water to fill an olympic swimming pool and I peed out an ocean. Thank God for the greatest two letters in the world AC.

Well my sweltering friend I will drip into the dark to await another round of Ron's Cinema.

  26. Nice video, Ron! And yeah, that Barbie karma is coming back to bite you in the butt, no doubt! Bahahaha!

It was hotter than hell here on Saturday too. We made the mistake of signing our son (and in turn, us) up for a campus visit at one of the colleges downtown. First it rained during the tour, then the heat mixed with the humidity made it feel as though it was 110 degrees. To add to the torment, they took us into a dorm that was NOT air conditioned. Nice selling point!

And that gal on the scooter--I wonder if they have any idea how that actually looks as they drive off into the sweltering summer sunset. *laughing* I feel no need to explain that remark one iota.

Yup--we sent the heat your direction! Five days of 100+ heat advisory in a row. Bit tiring in lots of ways.
It does guarantee alone time on the patio. I think it's about 85 degrees when himself starts hibernating in the air conditioning, droning on about how hot it is. *laughing* I'm lovin' it--in moderation, that is. It's not the heat, it's the humidity that makes me grumble.

  45. ..."I would have almost rather been eaten alive by Hannibal Lecter." ACK! *shudders* Just the mere thought of him gives me the heebie-jeebies! :o\

...I so agree about this heat, it is horrible. I know, I know, we are in the throes of Summer but seriously? *sigh* I don't like extreme weather no matter it be heat, cold, rain, wind, whatev'; if it kills people, animals, plants, it's time for it to move on. I'm done now, thank you. ;o)

...LOVE the video! I love the nod you gave Kenneth Cole & Tiffany's and are you wearing pants? I thought I caught a glimpse of your reflection and it looked like you were wearing pants. I dunno why I'm asking that, like it matters...*giggle*eyeroll* And perfect song to go with a perfect video too! Summertime in the city is always hotter than in the country, I've heard by as much as 10 degrees. Ya oughta move to the country hon'...*wink*wink*nudge*nudge*

...Stay cool & hydrated my friend!

    ...Blessings ':o)

  46. Helloooooooooooooooo TJ~

"..."I would have almost rather been eaten alive by Hannibal Lecter." ACK! *shudders* Just the mere thought of him gives me the heebie-jeebies! :o\"

HA! Yes, I know exactly what you mean because the mere thought of him gives me the heebie-jeebies too! I remember seeing the first film when it intially came out and it TOTALLY creeped me out. Anthony Hopkins was brilliant, wasn't he? As was Jodie Foster - I LOVE her!

"...I so agree about this heat, it is horrible. I know, I know, we are in the throes of Summer but seriously? *sigh*...."

I so agree with you - the extremes are very challenging. It actually hasn't been bad up until last week, but brother, are we making up for it now - geesh!

Thank you, so glad you enjoyed the video. And YES, I did give Kenneth Cole and Tiffany a nod. That's Walnut Street here in Philly. It's sorta like a smaller 5th Avenue version of 5th Ave in NYC - LOTS of designer shops.

"I thought I caught a glimpse of your reflection and it looked like you were wearing pants. I dunno why I'm asking that, like it matters...*giggle*eyeroll*"

Yes, WOW, you have very good eyes and notice a lot. I WAS wearing pants/jeans that day, can you believe it in all the heat???

    I was SCHVITZING!!!!

"Summertime in the city is always hotter than in the country, I've heard by as much as 10 degrees. Ya oughta move to the country hon'...*wink*wink*nudge*nudge*"

You're absolutely correct because even though I lived in the Florida heat for 20 years, summer heat in a northern city is soooooooo much worse. All that hot air gets trapped between the buildings. NYC is even worse because of all the tall buildings.

Thank you so very much for dropping by today, dear lady. Always a joy to see your comments and chat with you! Hope you're having a great week!

    Stay cool and faaaaaaaaaaaaaabulous!

  47. Hi Ron :) must be less hot in TX than in other states across the country because I hadn't noticed a change in temp from the usual summertime degrees. doesn't sound enjoyable in the least. but nice film! and nice photo of tom ford. don't know how you survived in FL all those years. Ever wonder how we got by without air conditioning back when we didn't have it? I totally remember some of the dormitories in college that did not have air conditioning. And my grandmother finally caved and bought a window unit for 1 room of her house in the mid 1970s. We both send our love. Oh - and in theater related news, our nephew has his first professional role in the cast of Spring Awakening. We're excited for him. xoxo Diane

  48. Ron - are those first frames taken from your place? Yikes! I wouldn't go NEAR that window, but I might invest in binoculars to check out who's at the rooftop pool. Tell the truth - you've done it, haven't you?!?!?

Be safe - I think that blue car at 0:35 is coming from a drug deal.

Over and out, or as they say in the movie biz...that's a wrap folks.

  49. Hey Tracy~

"Ron - are those first frames taken from your place? Yikes!"

HA! Yes, that's the view from my place - isn't it HIGH???? When I first moved in I was sooooooo scared to look out the window because I HATE heights, but I've gotten use to it. However, I still can't look DIRECTLY down from the window - YIKES!

"but I might invest in binoculars to check out who's at the rooftop pool. Tell the truth - you've done it, haven't you?!?!?

    Bwhahhahaahahahahahahahahahahaha!

YES!!!!!! I HAVE done it! OMG....you ROCK for calling me on that, girl! And it's funny you mentioned that because I was checking someone out the other day - I sware! That's ONE good thing about summer in the city - HAHAHAHAHAAHAHHHA!

"Be safe - I think that blue car at 0:35 is coming from a drug deal."

Bwhahahahahahahahahaahaaha! TOO FUNNY! That's EXACTLY what it looks like doesn't it?

Thanks sooooooooo much for stopping by and sharing your HILARITY! Always enjoyed!

    Have a grrrrrrreat week!

  50. Hey Diane~

"must be less hot in TX than in other states across the country because I hadn't noticed a change in temp from the usual summertime degrees. doesn't sound enjoyable in the least."

Oh, you are sooooooooo lucky!!! We here along the north east are having a VEEEEEEEEEEEERY hot summer. HORRIBLE!

But hey, it's only for six more weeks and then it's on to cooler temps - aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Thank you, my friend. Glad you enjoyed my first movie. Isn't that a FAB pic of Tom Ford? VA-VOOOOM!

"don't know how you survived in FL all those years."

I don't know how I did either. I actually loved FL weather for most of the time I lived there. It was just the last 4 years the heat started to get to me.

"And my grandmother finally caved and bought a window unit for 1 room of her house in the mid 1970s"

Good for her! It's not safe being that hot. Especially for our elderly.

" and in theater related news, our nephew has his first professional role in the cast of Spring Awakening. We're excited for him."

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!! OMG....how faaaaaaaaaaaaaaabulous!!!!!! I'm so happy for him! Tell him that I said....'Break a leg!'

    *applause*

Thanks so much for stopping by, Diane. Always so wonderful to read your comments. Have a great rest of the week!

    X to you and Cristybella!

  53. 115 degrees and someone takes their little dog out on the hot pavement??? Slap them upside the head for me, would ya?

    *Ahem*

Yeah, that's horribly hot, and humid too? I HATE humidity. Oh yeah, and I hate cilantro too - I believe it's what we call coriander leaf here? YUCK!

Great vid - I feel I know a little bit about where you live, now!

  54. Just imagine being at a horse show. We left at 3am last Thursday to drive the horses outside of Chicago to beat the heat. The horses did fine. Setting up on that Thursday I've never been so wet and felt so icky. My pants were soaking wet. Yuck!!! And, I love the humidity but even I was totally grossed out. I hope we don't get much more of this. We all made it back home alive and well.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hey Jen~

OMG....I can't even IMAGINE what that must have been like!!!!

I bet your horsie was sweating too. I hear that Chicago (even though they have brutal winters) also have brutal summers.

Hasn't the humidity been horrible? We've gotten a break these past few days, but today it's going back up - UGH!

    Can't wait for fall!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend! Have a great weekend!

  57. Hey Blunt~

Thank you. I think the next time will be much easier for me.

OMG, YES....videos SUCK to edit!!! I had no idea how to do it, so I just kept guessing.

I don't mind a 'touch' cilantro on my quesadilla, but just a touch. That's some VERY potent herb.

Yaaaaaaaaaaay! Fall is jam too, and I can't wait! Yeah, I here the Chicago area gets pretty hot and humid during the summer months too. But, I also hear it's a FABULOUS city!

    Me too....hermit.

Thanks for stopping by, girl! Have a supa' weekend and stay cool!

    X ya!
